    Bad Practice to turn the hose on before the ski is running. Always turn the ski on THEN the water or else you risk water backing up into the motor and hydrolocking it. I've made that mistake before. Other than that, great video!

      I had no idea, that makes a lot of sense though. Thanks for the suggestion, ill do that next time.

    • @jl456
      @jl456 Год назад

      Very rarely that happens and that's why you don't turn the hose on full force.

      im very confused by this, i thought you couldnt run it atall without water? and how does the water interfere with the engine other than just cooling it??

    • @jl456
      @jl456 Год назад +1

      @ofchilds you can run it without water just not very long I always do a test start before I go anywhere so I know everything is working then shut it off after about 10 to 15 seconds.

    Someone just gave me one of these that needs a top end rebuild! I was considering getting a whole motor because it’s been sitting for eight years and the top end is not on it. After seeing this maybe it’s worth just doing a top end?

    • @LIFEBUILDZchannel
      @LIFEBUILDZchannel  3 года назад +1

      It all depends on how good the motor was taken care of before the low compression. These skis were in great shape so I decided to risk it. Also since they were free, you have almost nothing to lose if you throw a new top end on it

  • @ofchilds
    @ofchilds Год назад +1

    you had it bored out a little bigger, did you have to modify the power valves so they didnt touch the piston or was it thin enough to not effect?

  • @jl456
    @jl456 Год назад

    Just a heads up, I searched and troubleshooted to find out why my pistons where scared up and why this is happening. Come to find out it's very common for the oil pump shaft to fail causing motor damage, my shaft was completely ruined causing no oil to be pumped into the cylinders.

      That’s good information to know!

    How did u replace the piston without pulling the whole motor out? I have to do a top end rebuild on a jetski of my own but idk whether to take the motor out or if I can do it while it’s in the ski

    • @WillyB2122
      @WillyB2122 2 года назад

      Most four wheelers and jet ski type motors, once you take the head off and then unbolt the cylinder, you just pull the cylinder up off the block and piston slides out the bottom

  • @tonybacon7459
    @tonybacon7459 3 года назад +1

    • @LIFEBUILDZchannel
      @LIFEBUILDZchannel  3 года назад

      I downloaded the manual online, as for the sizes to get the rebuild kit I’d call a dealership and ask them what size the stock bore is, then either replace it with the same size(if theirs not damage) or have it bored out. I bought my kit off Amazon

    • @LIFEBUILDZchannel
      @LIFEBUILDZchannel  Год назад +2

      I looked up the factory specs on what the cylinder diameter should be, then I shopped around for an oversized bore kit since my cylinder walls were damaged and I knew I would need to bore it out. Once I found one, I called a machine shop to confirm they could bore it out to the specs I was buying and then I bought it

    How do you know if it's low compression What compression reading are you at and do you have a reliable gauge because a lot of things on that Sea-Doo can cause it to be hard to start and you're just going to start throwing money at it so make sure you know what you're doing because they are very expensive I've been working on them for over 25 years

    • @LIFEBUILDZchannel
      @LIFEBUILDZchannel  2 года назад

      It had 30psi compression

    • @cpcassone
      @cpcassone 2 года назад +3

      Jeez give the guy a little more credit than that! You must not have watched the entire video before you made your comment. Did you not see the completely trashed piston when he popped the cylinders off? And assuming that he didn’t do any diagnostic work on the machines just because he didn’t include the footage in this video doesn’t mean that he didn’t look into things enough to arrive at the decision to rebuild the top end.

    • @jl456
      @jl456 Год назад

      Your obviously ignorant when you do a compression test and it's weak that's exactly why it won't start!

    Hello,can you tell what was the cause of the wear on the cylinder?

    • @LIFEBUILDZchannel
      @LIFEBUILDZchannel  3 года назад

      I’m not sure what caused the cylinders to wear because I bought it broken, however I saw sand in the cooling ports and it looks like the pump sucked up some sand. Both skis also had pretty high hours so it may have just been old age

    Hi Michael, I'm Dave and I picked up on your videos on motorcycles, checked out the rest and found excellent video and sound quality, great content and good presentation. As a 77yr old retired Army MSG living in the Philippines I watch lots of RUclips keeping up with life around the world. I like watching young people with ambition become successful. Check out Goonzquad and WatchJRGo two of my favorites. Do you have facebook page? I searched Lifebuilds and got hundreds of hits. Wish I could open dialog for suggestions rather than public comments.
