    1:10 Hysterectomy side effects
1:53 What to do if you’re estrogen dominant
    3:16 Already had a hysterectomy?
    4:16 Need keto consulting?
In this video, we’re going to talk about how a hysterectomy can affect your body shape. Now, this is primarily for women who are considering a hysterectomy-you may want to think twice.
Here’s the problem: you have all kinds of ligaments that are attached to your torso, lower ribs, lower back, and pelvis that are cut. These ligaments are opposing your abdominal muscles.
When you lose this balance, it can create major weaknesses within your abdominal muscles. In turn, your stomach can collapse and fall forward, giving you the appearance of being fat.
A hysterectomy can also give you low back pain because it alters the curvature of your back. You may also experience weakness in your core.
There are many other side effects that you may experience after a hysterectomy, including:
    • Low libido
    • Bladder issues
    • Bowel issues
    • Increased risk of cardiovascular disease
    • Increased risk of clots
    • Depression
    • Weight gain (on average, 25 lbs)
    • Pain
Some people experience no symptoms at all. So before you make a decision, check with your doctor and talk about the risks.
The two top reasons for getting a hysterectomy is if you have endometriosis or fibroids.
Both of these conditions occur if you are estrogen dominant. This means that you’ll want to avoid estrogen and things that mimic estrogen.
Avoid GMO cotton, dairy, soy, and other GMO foods. You can try sea kelp and cruciferous vegetables. All of your foods should be organic.
If you’ve already had a hysterectomy, it’s a good idea to be on a keto and intermittent fasting plan. Keto and fasting will help induce autophagy, lower inflammation, and support a healthy metabolism.

A hysterectomy 20 years ago was the best thing I ever did! After several other surgeries for endometriosis and fibroids, I still had major issues. But... I kept waiting, wanting children, etc. I finally couldn't take it anymore with the horrendous pain and heavy periods lasting over a month and a half straight! I'm glad I had a complete hysterectomy! Once the hormones were balanced afterward, things were fine and I eventually got off them. I am 58 now and have lost 70 pounds with intermittent fasting and keto. So, it can be done. I’m almost three weeks out from my hysterectomy. My uterus was falling out of my body. I could tell you exactly where those ligaments were. They were aching daily. I had over 25 PT appts to try to alleviate it. My rectum and bladder were falling too. Sometimes it’s just unavoidable. I’m only 36 but, I have young kids. I need to be up and well for them. All of this to say, see a pelvic floor therapist before your surgery and don’t feel bad if the final answer is surgical one.

I feel great. Keeping at least one ovary PLUS IF/healthy low carb/healthy keto is definitely the key to avoiding the health symptoms mentioned. HUGE fibroid filled uterus with servere bleeding and anemia. Was 41 when I had the surgery. Had fatty liver, glucose intolerance, metabolic syndrome, HBP, IR and pre diabetc. I lost 50 pounds 1st year. ALL health risks gone. No more fatty liver and don't see endocrinologist anymore who was very good and gave me no meds just encouraged weight loss and walking with appt follow up every 6 mos. I need to lose 10 more and the 70 I gained during my fibroid filled nightmare will be gone gone gone. I have just started to walk an hour a day to help with the belly fat. I had PCOS body shape, inverted triangle, and belly is last place to go. Waist is now 38 inches from 45 and my goal is 34. I'm 5 foot 4.

Glad you got your health back!! I understand you are at a healthier weight, but did your overally body shape or body composition change after? Like how the remaining fat was distributed? I just ask because I am estrogen dominant...really curvy, typical hour glass shape even while overweight, and I'm interested to know if there will be a major change to body shape post hysterectomy.
I carry most of my weight in my thighs, legs, and chest...and other than grace 😭... I think the distrubution of fat is one of the main things that has kept me healthy despite being obese...since belly fat is usually what drives metabolic issues. I hope it doesn't override genetics. I have been struggling to get the weight off but think it is due to hormonal issues & endometriosis.

I had EVERYTHING removed 4 years ago ...I was 48. I had uterine cancer, and through this entire process, it was discovered I have Lynch Syndrome which significantly raises my chances for cancer vs the general public. My surgery was performed with a robot and my uterus was removed through my vagina. Only 4 small incisions. So glad my ovaries were taken too, because my risk is much higher for ovarian cancer as well. I haven't had many problems and truthfully am incredibly relieved I don't have to deal with heavy painful periods anymore. It was miserable! But I do have lower back and hip pain. I'm not sure if its from the surgery or pre-existing issues as I have had those issues for over 20 years ...its just a bit more constant now. I did not lose my libido. Its not like it was in my 20's, but it already wasn't. Lol
Truthfully? I'm glad its all gone. If I could have taken a pill and my uterus would have fallen out, I would have done it years ago. It was a constant source of pain and massive clots that looked like my liver fell out. Anyways, this is just my experience. Everyone is different and needs to consider the options in relation to their situation. I recommend A good Hysterectomy support site like Hyster Sisters when considering A hysterectomy.

Excellent comment. I had a vaginal hysterectomy 3 years ago (at age 50) and I'm so glad to be rid of the problems. Fibroids were causing excessive bleeding to the point of transfusions. The pain was debilitating and keeping me from my kids, from living. I had to be in bed with a heating pad on oxycodone just to get through it. After I had my last baby & we’d tried every non surgical option to help my pain and bleeding, I decided I’d had enough. It was a heavy decision to make, but I’m convinced it’s given me my life back. I’ve actually lost almost 10lbs since my surgery. I plan to get into pelvic floor therapy, but I’m active and I want to thrive now that my uterus isn’t draining the life from me. It’s not been easy and recovery has been harder than I expected, but given a life free of pain and the health complications my uterus was causing, I think I have a chance to be even healthier than before, and be able to keep up with my children without the nonstop bleeding and pain.

Stubborn to believe and angry that I did everything I thought was doing right with my healthy choices. I never could relate or understood the period problems women had until this change. Went from having normal 4/5 days perfect periods to 21 days of nonstop bleeding. I did everything natural no birth control no tampons etc and it was worse because my body was not excepting it. After then getting all the extra unfortunate negative effects of this with IBS, nausea, anemia, emotional outbursts, panic attacks, and the fibroids were multiplying to a point I was holding grapefruits in my uterus etc..I had to make a choice with bleeding thru everything at work and home to getting back to me again I finally made the right decision for me and did the operation with an amazing Doctor specialized in the hysterectomy and he promised to try to save my uterus and not to take out my ovaries. Stayed in the hospital for 4 days. That was important. Why I say is my friend six months later had the operation with a basic doctor who insisted to take out everything. She was out of the hospital with her insurance in 24 hours 😳 and listened and was never the same after. They told her she could go back to work within the weeks 😧. She gained a lot of weight and emotionally lost her spirit. She was also bitter at me for healing over the years and she did not. It took me little over 2 year with still healthy lifestyle and appropriate exercise determination on strengthening my core to get back my feelings in my stomach muscles. I then had an opening still on where the fibroid was originally and the excess omentum fat filled the gap that the wall muscle didn't close and it looked like I was pregnant so I got a abdonminoplasty surgery and it was the best decision I did. Also found a specialist. That also took a year with Keto and IF to get me back from my strengthen core. I could do yoga again and not feel sensitivity to anything that touched my stomach region. 4 years now from the surgery and still doing natural Keto and healthy choices I have never looked back disappointed in my decisions. I have tried to educate others on options if they want the help otherwise people choose to accept their fate. We are all different and to me as you say you have to keep up the regime and not think its just overnight things will just get better. We have to always work out our health and always educate ourselves on this topic.

About 3 years ago, I had endometrial hyperplasia and my gynae recommended hysterectomy which I rejected. I was already post-menopausal. Somehow, I didn't want to go for the surgery. Today, I am so glad to learn what the procedure can do to me. I started keto diet especially at first ( and much later IF ), and ate cruciferous veggies almost daily. Still eating them. The thickness of the uterus lining has since gone down to 3 mm. Anything more than 5mm is not good. Thank Dr Berg, I happened to come across your videos and they helped to start my keto and IF journey and keep my uterus lol.

I'm having a D&C due to spotting and 6mm lining of my uterus (I'm 18months no period menopause officially 6months ago). From everything I read hysterectomy is the only option if the cells are atypical. I'm feeling so down and worried even more after watching this video any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm not keen on losing my uterus! My sister is going through the same thing and she is opting to get a hysterectomy because she wants it all to be over with. Things doctors never explain to patients.
I was diagnosed with fibroids and the doctor was doing his darndest on pushing for a hysterectomy despite the other options that can save my uterus.
This is a vital organ and only in life challenging circumstances, I feel that only then that discussion should be brought up instead of pushing it on patients to make their job easier despite the fact that a woman’s life will be permanently affected once this is done.

Hysterectomy save my life I do have female pattern, baldness but honestly, I really like shaving my head and wearing wigs. I'm 32 and I'm finally enjoying all the clothing and styles that I couldn't before. I don't regret it. The only thing I regret was not really insisting, and just keep trying to find a doctor listen to me, because if I had gotten treatment sooner before, it was too late, I may have been able to keep my uterus. Request for an estrogen level blood test. If you are already in menopausal stage might as well go through it as fibroids may cause disturbing irregular menses and cause possible future problems eg cancer . Choose robotic surgery method, may cost a bit more. it is less painful & speedy recovery and better healing than open cut surgery. I had gone through it and i am well now. No weight gains. I think it should be repeated that some people don’t have any issues or side effects. There are so many variables that need to be considered. Second opinions and researching doctors that specialize and perform these surgeries daily is not only smart but absolutely necessary. The other thing that needs to be said is that physical therapy can remedy many of the physio issues that he mentioned. Don’t be too discouraged by this information! Inform yourself and make the best decision for YOU.

    • @mswatchlist7699
      @mswatchlist7699 3 года назад +1

I also want to add that with physical therapy I’ve learned that I must exercise a little differently than I used to. I’ve learned new methods to make sure that I’m not “baring down through my abdominal wall” while I perform many exercises. I choose to avoid exercises that add negative pressure to my abdomen. This is all by choice and what works best for me in order to avoid prolapsing in the future. I follow my Drs orders and I don’t do things that would be risky like lifting “too heavy” or running. I’ve learned to swim rather than run for instance and I still lift but I concentrate more on reps than maxing out. I watched my best friend go through a second repair after running and lifting heavy so.... lesson learned.

I had a hysterectomy (laparoscopy/vaginal) with salpingo-oophorectomy in 2011 at age 42 1/2. I had very painful intercourse, endometriosis, fibroid tumors, uterine cysts, cervical displaysia and bled every day for an entire year before insurance would cover it. I didn't gain weight but I've had major back issues (I already had them but now it's worse) that required surgery in 2022. I also have permanent scar tissue internally because I did too much too soon. Not seeing but 2 little scars on my lower abdomenal area and one in my belly button, it tricks you, making you forget you had major surgery. I first tore open one of the ab spots then a few weeks later I ripped one of the internal staples out and now I have permanent scar tissue that makes intercourse even more painful then before. Also total loss of libido and extreme dryness. But I took a drug called osphena that worked wonders! In 2016 I got breast cancer (stage 3). I was told it possibly could have come from daily osteoporosis (that I also got after surgery) injections. I was told no more osphena because of breast cancer (they weren't sure at the time if there was a connection). Going through 2 1/2 years of different types of chemo, radiation and targeted drugs, the tissue is even thinner and more dry. But I was told if I hadn't gotten the hysterectomy my cancer could have become hormonal and became estrogen/progesterone positive. So yes I'm glad I had the surgery but I wish I'd been prepared for the side effects that at 55 I still have

But I've got a comment from one of my friends who told me that as a result of keto we can face the problem of carbs digestion, that our body gets out of use to digesting carbs and as a result we can have all sorts of digestive problems. Thank you!

My mom passed away at 73. She had all sorts of heart and gastric issues. e
Ever since I can remember she was sick very often. She had a hysterectomy after my brother was born. So she suffered through stuff for 40 years. The last doctors to see her couldn't figure out why she was sick so often. They just said oh she has osteoporosis really bad but never said why. They never said why her heart bad. They just threw incomprehensible terms at me. It turns out, through Dr. Berg, that it was the hysterectomy that started all of these problems.
I'm not trusting any doctor. Naturopathic doctors are my go to and even then I diagnose myself. My doctor always asks me what I think not what she thinks should happen. So far though I don't have any problems other than trying to get into ketosis. ;)

Had a total hysterectomy done in 2008. Best thing I ever did. Surgeon told me my uterus was so big, filled with fibroids, he had to pull it out in pieces instead of one whole organ. I feel much better.

I had one 4 years ago when I was 48 due to uterine cancer. Everything removed! Truthfully, it hasn't been that bad. The worst is lower back pain but its still much better than the horrible heavy periods and feeling bad about 2-3 weeks per month. I think a persons age makes a difference as well. I think its much harder on someone very young.

I want to thank you so very much for your videos. I had a complete hysterectomy three years ago and I did exactly as you said with the weight gain and I have the problems that you said I would have. I have been at my wits end trying to figure out how to shake this weight, fight off these cravings and get my life back. I dont sleep, i crave constantly, and im miserable! I stopped taking my estrogen two weeks ago and now my hot flashes have stopped. I am researching what keto is and how I can fit Intermittent fasting into my life, having to push through the hunger and cravings because im lucky if I get three to four hours of sleep a night. Is there any vitamins I can take that will help my transition easier? Im so ready. I hope you see this. Thank ya kindly doctor for all you do for people 🌹

I had mine at 48. I had fibroids, but I don't know for sure how necessary it was. I might have been able to have handled it differently. I was on bioidentical hormones and that helped with symptoms, but weight gain, no. I also have Hashimoto's and insulin resistance. Finally had to go on metformin and lost a ton of weight. I'm almost back to my normal weight but it was a long struggle.

oc said some of you will have no symptoms. And those bragging that they don't. Well the point is moot.
Some people do have symptoms following their hysterectomy. And some people like myself will not even consider it as an option.
I had multiple painful bleeding fibroids. I did a uterine fibroid embolization which is completed through a small incision the size of a pencil tip in my femoral artery which the doctor thread a tube through where he deposited microspheres inside the arteries feeding the fibroids and basically cut off their supply and kills the fibroid that day. I had relief from bleeding, cramps, and frequent bathroom trips THAT DAY. Plus I got sleep glorious sleep. And improved moods and outlook on LIFE!
Those of you who want OPTIONS beyond hysterectomy would be well advised to check out UFE first!

Dr Berg, I got so emotional listening to you talk about hysterectomy in this video. I always hoped that you would do one on this. I wished you had talk more about the stress and depression that some people suffers, from this. When I had my hysterectomy done, which everything was taken out. I stayed in the hospital 2 days. Then my daughter was having problems in her marriage her husband left and she was pregnant. She had her baby and I started to help her take care of the baby up until now, 17 years ago. So I have a lot of stress and anxiety now pain in the body etc. Can you do a video on exactly what kind of vitamins etc that one can take to help cope with all this? Thankyou in advance. We love you Dr Berg you are a god send to millions of people around the world. Have been watching your videos for many years now. Thanks again.

I wish I had stepped back and reconsidered the surgery at age 32, newly married. (My uterus was the size of a 12 week pregnancy.) My doctor was too eager to do the operation. He took everything out plus my appendix (I didn't agree to that). The years since have been so filled with depression, etc. but it was a practitioner that gave me hormones (without a blood test) that killed my taste buds and caused my torso to enlarge from a 36 to a 46!Of course I gained a lot of weight. Since then I do not trust doctors but have had great success with non traditional remedies and good advice from others in the health field. I'm looking forward to all the medical miracles and cures that will be released with Nesara, esp. the MedBed.

My aunt had a full hysterectomy when she was 19! She hasn't been the same since and she's in her mid 50s. She went into early menopause, she could lose any weight, she stayed depressed for years and the hot flashes looked like they drove her insane, not to mention that they never gave her any type of body compression so her tummy stayed big and I'm top of that, she was never able to have kids because of the hysterectomy. I feel so sad for her.
If there is some type of life-threatening issue going on to where you're forced to have a hysterectomy then I guess you have no choice, however,
if you can avoid it especially if you want kids I wouldnt choose it

I had to have a total hysterectomy, I’m Stage 4 Endometriosis. My surgeon said she’d never seen my endo damage before on anyone else. Her description was “it looked like someone poured concrete on your insides”. What should have taken 1.5 hours, took her 4 hours to scrape and burn that and my organs out. Now I’m on HRT. I did notice my core was weakened tremendously, but I’m working on it. My tummy is vanishing now that I’ve been doing IF, down 35lbs and feeling GREAT! I love the idea of keto but do we really have to weigh everything we eat?

I believe you touched on a very big problem of adhesions. My best friend has suffered for years and doctors don’t want to touch this with a ten foot pole.
Also many of the same issues with cesarean section or any abdominal surgery. Especially for those prone to keloid scarring. It’s miserable from her description.

I’ve had two abdominal myomectomies to remove multiple fibroids. I am doing OMAD Keto and drinking water only. I don’t have menstrual problems anymore. I’m just going to keep trying but it’s comforting to know some women are okay without their uterus. I’m 37 so hopefully the fibroids do not return.

I had bladder issues, lower back and abdominal pain before I had a hysterectomy. But after the partial hysterectomy (kept my ovaries), I have never been able to regain the strength of my lower back, even after many different physical therapy treatments. Though I had endometriosis that had created scar tissue that had attached to my bowel, so the pain caused from that is better. Otherwise, I'm still in constant pain and can't spend much more than 20 minutes on my feet without feeling the need to rest my back. I'm looking into getting a custom made corset to help support since I have seen next to no improvement in regaining the strength after almost 10 years. On the plus side, I have noticed very little difference in my body shape accept for the looser belly flab that won't tighten up. But I'm thin so it is barely noticeable. But I am on a keto diet with IF.
