This game is still in regular rotation at my house. It's a game that even my youngest nieces and nephews love, regardless of how it has aged. It's still my favorite N64 game to come back to, also.
I know chasing the algorithm is a thing and you often have to complete the newest and biggest games in order to strike while the iron is hot. Just a smaller, older experience whose completion criteria isn't full of insane challenges and stressful achievements. Just a nice, simple, classic game. I like seeing that for Jirard.
I never had a N64 so I played all the time at a friend's house. I still remember accidentally unlocking Captain Falcon and discovering there were hidden characters, unbeknownst to the friend too. Seeing the Falcon Punch for the first time was hysterical.

This game was the reason why my buddies and I kept our N64 systems console generations later, just so we could come together every once in a while to "Smash it up". Such an awesome and timeless game.
The combo system in 64 is amazing. L-cancelling cancels all of your landing lag, (this was nerfed in Melee to half) and the hitstun lasts forever. It's wonderful :)
Jirard was smoking something when he said that Ultimate is faster, is not, with those laggy controls either offline and online, too much input lag. For me, it's unplayable, it doesn't matter if it runs on native hardware or an emulator, the game feels laggy AF. Every previous Smash game doesn't have this flaw.

I don't know about you guys, but I actually think the graphics in Smash 64 is super fitting. The blockiness makes the characters look like Stuffed Toys, something they were supposed to represent.
It's truly amazing to see not only take a break, but also complete the 1st and OG Super Smash Bros. Also, I'm glad they're back to adding the Game Number in the intro. And the other Smash Games he hasn't completed are Super Smash Bros. Brawl and 3DS
I always wanted to know what the original smash feels like, because it definitely has a certain charm to it. I like the old sound effects for the game and the way the polygon models moved because they are just so satisfying to see and hear. Also it's interesting to see what the mindset of the developers were back then compared to now, like how multiple characters had 1 shot moves like jiggly puff, Luigi, and captain falcon. Great video, I'm glad you did the original smash!
There will always be special place for the starting entry of a series, especially if it is the one you started out with, even if it lacks the polish of later entries

Biggest downside is now my brother doesn't care about games much and I don't have nearby friends to play with. Personally tho, nothing against traditional fighters but I've never been able to get into them. Still love this game, it’s been years since I’ve tried but never beat it on very hard with 1 life and no continues. I made it to the polygon team many times but couldn’t beat it, think I might fire it up again!
I remember getting this game as a kid based off the box art alone (because I was too young to know how to read). It was my first experience with unlockables, and it feels so nostalgic every time I see it. Is it my go to game on the system? No. But I'm still proud to have it in my collection and have that memory of the 90's.
Instant like on the video, love love LOVE super smash bros, played the hell outta 64 until melee came out then onwards with brawl etc. Love me some Super smash bros series. Great video man! :D
You mentioned the “Smash to Guilty Gear pipeline”, that exists for me! Started with Smash 64, grew up on Melee, thought the characters on BlazBlue looked awesome, and then went from that to Guilty Gear Xrd!
I will forever cherish the memories of playing this game every day, grinding very hard 1 stock classic mode, doing shenanigans like only pokeballs matches or simply just watch level 9 CPUs wreck each other in the background while i do my stuff in my room. This game is magical in a way that no other fighting game can match because of its unique pacing and clunkiness. I really hope they will bring this gem to Switch Online one day.

So now the only Smash game remains to be completed, and probably the hardest one to do so - Brawl. Can't wait for in 2026
After all these years still the best gaming content on RUclips. Keep it up !🔥
I see you put the completion rating at the end again. That's good. I always liked trying to guess it based on the review.

1. Play lots of smash.
2. Get convinced to play Street Fighter 2 and some sequels.
3. Buy Guilty Gear Strive.
The more unhinged Jirard becomes the more I enjoy the Completionist
I miss the character-specific break the targets and board the platforms. They were such great ways to introduce what the characters could do.
Instant like on the video, love love LOVE super smash bros, played the hell outta 64 until melee came out then onwards with brawl etc. Love me some Super smash bros series. Great video man! :D
Missed you! Welcome back! I'm so pleased with this upload!
The moment I saw that commercial back in the 90’s as well, this really took me back. Also I maintain my position: RUclipsr ads are the best ads.
You mentioned the “Smash to Guilty Gear pipeline”, that exists for me! Started with Smash 64, grew up on Melee, thought the characters on BlazBlue looked awesome, and then went from that to Guilty Gear Xrd!
Smash Bros wasn't the birth of platform fighters, they just popularized it.
Jirard the completionist more like Jirard the gladiator of video games
These shopify ad reads/ skits are THE BEST
I need more merch!!!
I still remember getting this game for my 6th birthday! One of the best gifts i ever got!
It would be cool to see him review the Smash Bros Remix since it really brings the game new life.
Crazy how you released this video the same day as Smash Remix 1.4!
Smaesh to GG pipeline for Stukka: smaesh> SC1> Melee> SC2> SC3> MVC2> SC4> MVC3> Sf4> GG
I remember playing this as a kid and putting the lives on infinity and playing until my eyes bled lol
If you remember seeing this commercial as a child you lived a great childhood.
