I really like the look of this. In the UK, we tend to tell the time around the 15-minute marks ("It's just gone quarter past", etc), and nothing runs on time here anyway, so it should be perfectly fine.
or at least one that can tell me which decade it is... I need to track lost time, so that would be a total upgrade for my lifestyle in the northern woods!
The Vario "Vacation Watch," or Vario "Holiday Watch, or Holiday Traveler." For those times when schedules should not exist, and exact times should be irrelevant. Close is close enough. I think it's great.
It's perfect for casual wear, and the retired person especially. For those times you need more precise time keeping use your cell phone or wear a different watch! 😉 Vario is probably my most favorite micro brand, Zelos a close second.
I would have changed the time blocks. I would have made the long line between the hour names the half-hour point.....thus making the small middle line the :00 point. That would make time displayed at 4:31 in the video 10 minutes before ten o'clock.
When I first clicked this video I didn't expect to like this watch. To my surprise I really do. I think it could be a really great watch for weekends and vacations when having only a general sense of what time it is sounds like a great idea.
I always enjoy your watch reviews. I bought this in the ocean blue color and absolutely love it! Vario has become my favorite micro brand I now own 8 of their excellent, creative, and quality watches. Since I am retired, I love the casualness of this watch. With the delineation of the 15 minute markers you can be pretty precise too. Thanks for what you do!
Maybe I'm wrong but probably this is a kind of dress watch that you would use in a cocktail, dinner or during the weekend, where having a rough idea is just fine. I wouldn't use it for work
Really great review. I respect what they are trying to do, but it would drive me crazy. I don't wear a smart watch because I don't want it constantly "talking" to me. For that same reason, I often put my phone away when I'm not working. My watch needs to tell me the correct and accurate time... period.
I don't know what it says about me, but I really like this watch. I am not up on the Miyota movement, so I don't know what kind of accuracy it has. I think the only thing that would bug me is it would be hard to tell if it's staying accurate.
I just don’t get why most people are not able to adapt their minds to be able to tell the time with a device that has an alternative design. I have even seen people who got angry about it. It is sad to see how inflexible people are mentally. I personally enjoy new challenges and to adapt to changes, and I’m nearly 60!
We tend to check the time on our phones these days so I dont think that this watch is not for everyone or a weekend watch. It is a conversation starter and a piece of art with almost no alternative at this price point.
I think that this watch is very neat and would be better as a desk clock or especially a wall clock at home. I think that as a wrist watch it would be better with a minute hand and minute track but with the same dial design but it would not be this watch if that were so none the less I like the idea of the watch and the design just not as a wrist watch. Edit: Would be a great vacation watch because if you are that concerned about making time appointments on vacation... you need to learn how to relax more lol
It's a cool and interesting watch. Maybe without numbers spelled out.. and tone down the hour hand. Still, an interesting watch. That strp 👍. Great review Dave.
A watch for when approximate time is good enough so wouldn't bother me but the different font sizes on the numeral spellings, presumably to better fill the space, probably would.
I love how the watch dial is designed as to make it functional, but as a person of accuracy down to the second, this watch ain't for me. I love the unique approach of this watch, but this will drive me insane in a negative way. I hope this watch finds its market.
I think it is a lovely looking watch, I was able to read the time instantly and it is close enough on my days off. Thanks for the review highlighting this brand, I will keep my eye out for them now.
lets be honest most of us make plans schedule and meetings on the 15 30 45 or even hour anyways so this would function perfect for 99% of us plus the watch looks great
Kinda loving this watch, very different than anything else I have. I couldn’t use this during the week when I have meeting after meeting scheduled, but on the weekend when time is more relative this would be great.
Rarely am I able to dismiss a watch in an instant, this abomination bucks the trend I'm afraid. There's simply nothing about it that appeals to me personally.
Serendipity strikes again. Put mine on first thing this morning. A few hours later got the notification of Dave's video. I love wearing it on lazy days (today, Memorial Day, is perfect). Great review! P.S. I've thought the second hand, in addition to its compass look, looks a bit like a life preserver floating on the wave-like dial. If you're lost at sea, you probably don't care about the exact time.

They should make one with just the day of the week. Perfect for the retired crowd.
I've been looking for that for years.
Classic😂
Sounds like a nightmare to set if it's not a radio watch
or at least one that can tell me which decade it is... I need to track lost time, so that would be a total upgrade for my lifestyle in the northern woods!
Time is relative (Shane would say proudly!)

If you need to know the time down to the second to meet a deadline, then you really are a world class procrastinator.
Would have loved to hear you talk about the pricing as well! The price ultimately tells you if the quirky design is worth it or not.
Top right at 03:15 in the spec sheet. $428
Right, there it was! It somehow slipped below my radar…
Is this cosc certified? 😂
must be a pain to set this watch

So funny reading in the comments people saying it would be a struggle to read, it’s really not that difficult I can read it to within 3-5min.
Maybe I'm wrong but probably this is a kind of dress watch that you would use in a cocktail, dinner or during the weekend, where having a rough idea is just fine. I wouldn't use it for work
One handed watches have been on my radar for a while and I wasn't aware that Vario made this model. Love the simple vintage look.

Actually more attractive than the Miesterwerk things its inspired by.

I like it very much . Perhaps a good watch for retirement gift if your a stickler for the precise time . Very cool .

I think instead of using alphabet for hour indication, it would be nicer to use Cartier style numeric to match its artistic intention.
Does the second hand axis align with the center of the bulb in the hour hand?
Not sure if you have or maybe not interested
But would love a video on pocket watches and maybe were to get them in Japan
Really interesting and attractive! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the video, but not for me would drive me mad. A sort of a sun dial on your wrist.
Looks much smaller than the Meistersingers I’ve seen.
just learning to read the sun might be even more accurate, and carry no watch...
Interesting, kind of cool, but not at all something I'd go for.
Steam-punk, reminds me of steam locomotive gauges. I'd love to see it w/ a cream dial, blue hour hand and 'nib' seconds hand.
There’s a beige that look really nice.
Why can't I have hair like Dave who lives in Japan?
Artistic design, but not my cup of coffee.
Is the seiko 5 7009 vintage good in 2024
Would prefer a 24h version of this
B.G.W.-9 full lume dial, yes please
If only they did it in 40-41mm.
No way Nuff said 👍
Nice - but oh so niche 🙂

I like the design. Interesting timepiece. It reminds me of an old boat's throttle. I also like the popeye watch you showed. 🥁🥁🥁

Love the videography! Thanks again!
Pretty cool design but I like precision

Great design!!
Interesting, but not for me
7:30 ATH M50 yeah
Mogged by my Luch
I think i'll like it

man , 12 o clock is not at 12 o clock and the seconds subdial is offset . I would just rip it out of my wrist on the first hour probably hahahaha
New friend here sending may full suppor mamacoo
