Based on some of the comments and questions (by the way, those that were outright rude were kicked off the channel) -- I have great news. I have NEW video(s) that I shot today -- it includes a detailed disassembly of the switch, including the spring and ball bearing - the whole 9 yards. I will edit it and post it -- edit: it's here ruclips.net/video/gwKZMK7GKh4/видео.html Oh, and this fix has been working since I posted it almost a year ago!
2014 F150 here. I didn't have the same issue, at all, but you showed me how to open the housing for the switch, and I got my seat to tip forward for me. The day is saved!
THANK YOU!!!! You saved our vacation!! I moved our seat forward because I’m short and needed to DD, but my tall boyfriend needed to get us back home (I’m scared of highways). The got stuck and we were in full panic mode. I found your video and this worked! THANK YOU!!!
It's stupid if you solved the simplicity of saving the rest of the community hours and dollars of their life. Thanks for this one. Now I'm gonna do it too...
You are the man! I haven't been able to drive my 2012 F150 for a week, have a new switch coming for under $30.00 but am able to drive it again! So glad I found your post, and thanks very much!
When you said theres a spring i did the Italian fix by just hitting it and it moves forward now lol. My 5'2 self can reach the pedals now and thanks you for this video!
I appreciate this video so much. It helped me disassemble my chevy and showed me to check my switch. My problem wasn't the same (I just had a bad switch) but this was the most helpful video.
:-D no, thank you -- I'm so glad this video helped since I spent waaaayyy too much time messing with this to figure out this ...silly fix Oh and even last week, this fix is still going strong !
I don't think this is a dumb fix. Dumb is spending 100 bucks on a switch or a grand on a seat when you could simply go in and test with continuity. I was so close but didn't tear into the bearings. Thanks for this!
Love this video and am going to attempt this fix on my 2011 chevy traverse tomorrow! 🤞🏽 Front driver seat is fully reclined and won't go back up. But all other functions are good...
Good looking out I bought a 2010 Ford taurus limited for my mother and the lumbar switch doesn't work. All other functions work. I had the the panel out yesterday and took off the switch and couldn't figure out how that spring and tiny plastic bearing was supposed to work. I didn't even think about stretching it out. I'm going to get at it again tomorrow. Thank you for posting this video.
make sure you watch the breakdown video of the actual spring. You'll think its a joke, until you put it back together and the stupid thing works. (Still working 2+ years later by the way!)
Trying this on my 2016 mustang tonight! It’s stuck in the all-the-way forward position and is swiveling side to side and not front to back. Hopefully this works for me!!
Having this exact issue on my 2012 Ford Focus. Seat slides forwards and backwards and reclines down but will not recline back up. Had to drive around with my seat reclined all the way back today. Hoping this is the fix for it tomorrow. Hard to tell exactly what you did at the end but this should point in the right direction
So glad to hear it saved you the hassle ... because uh ... that's ...that's what I did. Took the whole damn seat out, disassembled the track to the point I thought I wasn't going to be able to reassemble it. Complete waste of time.
My 2014 Ford Escape just started to have a driver's seat issue this morning. Could you tell me what to do? All the buttons work fine, I can tilt the seat back, but I can't tilt it forward. I will have my husband watch your video to give him an idea. But would my seat have the same problem as yours?? I am very short and need the seat to tilt forward quite a bit. Now my seat is stuck!! oh oh
prrrrobably not, but it's still worth a look. When you pull that cover off, you'll expose the switch itself (they're little panel like things) -- with that cover off, plug it back in, if the seat won't move in the direction, you want ...it's probably the switch. ruclips.net/video/_1P4ZLSxIo4/видео.html
I did exactly this but no fix. The seat does not go forward and back. I can hear the motor engage but nothing happens so I assume that is a motor issue?
Stands to reason the principals shown here can be applied to other switchs not shown here. The shapes may be different but this information should be enough to fix a switch. I was going to just replace my door mounted switch (Crown Vic, TC) with junkyard but I will now try to repair it first.
Great video.. For my 2014 yukon Driver seat forward and backward not moving but I can heard the motor it just doesn’t move. Passenger seat the recliner stuck all the way down. And I can hear the motor too.. Any tips.?
not real familiar with GM cars really, but they all more or less work the same. Also you might look for debris (canned air is easiest to blow out the teeth on the gears) and test out that switch. From what I've gathered (from the comments and another seat someone asked me to look at), that switch is on a LOT of different cars, so you might luck out!
My 2010 f150 good info but not that easy for me.new switch was only $25 no luck so I checked the power in at the switch. no power to seat. also has a lumbar contol that is dead. Fuses ok electric mirrors and and pedals work fine. The only thing left according to youtube is a fault in the wiring caused by a corroded splice. For all the pain power seats cause we need a special manual on the problem.
Any idea about a front passenger seat in a 2009 Ford Taurus all wheel drive Limited, so if you want to move the seat forward, (when you hit the the switch,) the left side of the seat, moves backwards, when you hit the switch backwards, the right side only goes so far, but the left side returns to its normal position.. it's almost as if something stuck in one side of the track or the other? Or is there two Motors in one could be shot?
So when I got down to the switches themselves everything was working besides the backwards switch. Do I need a new switch, or does that mean it might be wiring? Thanks for your help, I’m really new to working on cars!
@paigebeachy mmmmmmmm probably the switch, unlikely the wiring. If you steal the switch from the passenger side (if its also power) that should tell you if its definitely the switch. If the switch is indeed bad, you could also give it the hail Mary and hit it with some electrical contact cleaner and work it a bit
Great info! U mentioned that the ball bearing arear hd worn down. How did you build it back up so the bearing engages again. I believe I have the exact problem as u. Thanks for any help. Cheers
It wasn't the bearing wearing down, it's that little spring that just wasn't doing its job. No joke, just stretch the little spring that's inside there, reassemble. I think it was 1/2" long, I stretched it to about 2-3 inches and dropped it back in.
@@OffTheMountainCO Perfect! I was in it and for me, it was just cleaning and replacing with silicone gel. Thanks for the video. It helped a lot. Seat working now. Cheers from Tennessee.
I have a Ford with the multi-switch power drivers seat. It will not move forward or backward. But all of the other directions work. I can hear the motor getting power when I try to move it forward and backwards, and I can see the cable moving, trying to turn. My question into you is: When you have the issue, could you hear the motor engaging as power was sent to it, or was yours completely silent (getting no power)? Seems mine has a track and/or cable issue. Good video BTW, thank you for sharing.
no, the motor wouldn't engage at all, total open circuit. Check for ...junk in the track, raise it up as far as you can, pull out the seat and play "find the penny"
I have a 2011 F150. My wife used my truck and placed the seat in the far forward position where it’s now stuck. The seats forward/reverse only works/moves on the right side rail. The left rail seems to be jammed/stuck. Just in case I explained that all Fukerd up…the seat basically jack knifes. I removed the plastic framing and 4 bolts so that I could tilt the seat on its side for a better view. I didn’t remove or disconnect and electrical connections. Once on its side I still didn’t see any sort of foreign object debris (FOD) in the left rail that might be causing it to stick. I’ve sprayed a liberal amount of wd40 in hopes that it was something as simple as beach sand. Unfortunately, its still jammed up. I ran a stiff piece of weed eater cord the length of the railing and didn’t feel/see any FOD pop out. Any clues to what might be going on? I initially thought it could be a bad switch or fuse but the forward/reverse motor still engages the right side gears that slides the rail back/forth. If it was a switch issue wouldn’t that motion not work altogether? Why isn’t the left rail engaging? Jammed? Can 1/2 of the forward/reverse motor be bad? Wiring connection issue? I’m stumped 🤔
If the piece was worn out and not letting the ball bearings move it what did you do to fix it without replacing the worn out part? I have it all apart and the electrical switch works fine like you said but you really didn't explain how you fixed it. Just put it back together and it will work? If so then Yes this is the dumbest fix and thanks if this works.
@@MuckoMan Yep, there's a little spring in there, at least on this car there was - I tried to do it on camera a few times and 1, its so small the camera wouldn't pick it up nor the little bearing and 2, if you're not careful, it throws the little springs everywhere !
