  • Recently I picked up a Weber Kettle Master Touch to complement my Weber Kettle Premium, and I’ve had questions about the differences between the two and why I chose to get a second Weber Kettle. In this video I try to answer those questions.

Always nice to see an in depth comparison between models especially for those who don't have access to check out both. The side-by-side is great. You're making me wish I had put some extra dollars toward the higher end one, but I still love my copper premium. She puts in work! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Was going to buy one too! Except they want a premium price, for coated steel grates. My WSM has SS + you can make it into a better Master Touch with a little know how. Don't waste your money. Get the cheaper one and bigger wheels if you need it taller

I started with the Premium a few years ago and love it. This year I purchased the Master Touch to have a second kettle (two locations). The Master Touch is well worth the extra price. The lid bale is worth the difference to me all by itself. I always struggle with that hook on the lid of the Premium. The other great thing about the cooking grate is the removable circle grate in the middle. On the Premium I need to set the charcoal baskets on bricks so that the charcoal is immediately under the grate. I do this to sear steaks. With the Master touch I just set that removable circle grate directly on top of the two charcoal basket in the bottom of the grill to sear my steak. When it is time to replace the cooking grate again on the Premium, I will definitely upgrade to the gourmet system grate.

The “P” vents were first introduced on the Weber Summit Charcoal and as of late 2019, they are standard on the Premium, Master Touch and Performer Kettles. Weber Performer models also have the lid bale and the GBS (Gourmet Barbecue System) grates and the Premium and Deluxe models also come with the charcoal baskets. Accessories for the GBS include a wok, griddle, sear grate, chicken roaster and a pizza stone. The warming rack is exclusive to the Master Touch.

Rock Dog: I got a 26” Kettle and love it. Unlike my 22” (with those great P vents) I don’t miss them on the 26”. Ever single cook I’ve done on the 26” has the bottom vents wide open. The larger size needs that air, and the top daisy is perfectly fine for making adjustments. The 26” is so much bigger and so fun to cook on, you won’t think twice about P vents once you get it. I just wish it came in colors other than black.

tgarry100 thanks for your input. Were any of those cooks with the bottom vents wide open in the low and slow range (225-275)? Based on my experience with my 22 inch (old model, no P vents), that would be surprising to me.

Hey love watching your videos. Very informative. I know you said you had your copper premium for a few years and that you have the regular oval vent notches at the bottom. Today I bought the same copper Original Premium from Lowes and this one has P notches, so they must of updated. I've had the slow and sear for a few weeks and love it. Believe it or not, I've been using a cheap $40 22" kettle from Walmart and got desent flavor results but naturally as to where it is cheap quality it took a lot of briquettes to keep the temperature steady which resulted in some bad smoke at times. I mostly used the snake method on it. The slow and sear did good, but naturally it did fit properly. Im ready to do a first burn off on this Weber to get it ready for a labor day pulled pork cook with Applewood. Keep up the videos. Ive learned a lot

Hey man, checking in from the UK here.
I picked up a weber master touch recently and have been getting great results using it for smoking, largely in part to the videos you do on the weber kettles.
Just wanted to say thanks really, for all the great videos you've done so far and, hopefully, the videos you continue to make.
Living in England it’s fairly difficult to buy the sorts of cuts you guys in America can get with ease for smoking… St. Louis ribs, pork butts, whole briskets etc. but having watched a lot of your videos I was prepared to spend the money to special order them in and have seen nothing but great results!
Hope you keep up the great work man, much appreciated!

I just got my first Weber after using a homemade barrel grill for 20 years. Been learning alot from your vids, thank you. My first cook was a brisket that came out amazing .
Anyway, I bought a Blue premium from Lowes but it seems more like a mix between the master touch and premium. It has the gourmet grill, the master touch "p" vents and the removable ash catcher. As far as I can tell it just doesn't have the lid holder, coal baskets, and the vent handle. And it was actually cheaper than the copper premium at $152. It didn't say Lowes or anything on it but I wonder if its a special item for them. I'll probably get another one to build a table for and keep one mobile. Going to convert my old barrel grill to an offser reverse flow smoker too ;) thanks for the great content.

The overlooked pro with the Premium is that it gets much better sale prices. I grabbed mine at a lowes for $120 with a free chimney starter during their inventory shift into winter. The Master Touch rarely drops below $200. Though you still are getting nearly $100 worth of extras on the master.

Much different but manageable, but you have to stay on top of it when cooking steaks or chicken thighs.

Great review. I bought the 70 th anniversary model and it is awesome. I never had a charcoal bbq before so I'm just learning how to cook on it , but going well so far.

Just bought my MT yesterday! I already put it together!!! I went to my local Home Dept but they were out of the Premiums. I saw your video and comments, MT model it is then!!! Went to another Home Depot and found the MT. Guess it was meant to be!

I have an iron grate in my premium. You can not beat them but around $100. Great video!

I snagged a MT on clearance a while back and ended up selling it fairly quick since I’m only 5’9”. I found the height of my 22” premium made it easier to roll around easier due to the lower center of gravity, and of course, it fits upside down in more makes and models of automobiles. (My Premium is my front porch kettle, and really easy to pick up and move to the back patio if I need to.) You’re absolutely right, though. Although I rarely used the warming rack, the accessories do make the MT more bang for the buck. I didn’t care for the grate, though, because it didn’t hang from the grill with the center, was harder to keep clean, and the high heat from my Vortex burned the plating off the center just like the lighter plated grate. You can remove the center for Vortex cooking, but then you lose a substantial amount of cooking space compared to a conventional grate and you also then have a big hole to drop items into lol. My 26” came with a stainless grate and baskets, and I really don’t know why they don’t sell the same grill downsized in a 22”. I really like the new vent holes. That was cool to see.

Our local hardware supply store had some Original Weber Kettle Premium for very cheap so I bought it. And I am using it almost everyday haha

I recently upgraded from the base line weber kettle to the master touch and it's worlds better. I know have the ash catcher. A thermometer, although I typically use my thermopro when I need to regulate temperatures for offset smoking style. A very thick, heavy well made grate that has the circle cut out for very versatile cooking setups and the height difference. Overall I love the upgrade

Great video sir, I started with a premium a few years back then ended up buying a performer last year and wish I would've spent the extra money to start with. The starting system and especially the table is so much more convenient.

Wow I didn't even know about the height difference. I've been waiting for the blue one to come back in stock and it looks like it just did!

Great video, thanks Ry. Recently got a Master Touch Premium and love it, except for the hinged lid that doesn't close properly at the front. Going to have to mod the springs as others have done, or just keep using it the old way. Otherwise it's great - the diffuser plate is also a great addition. Thanks again!

Hi , is the master touch premium you mention a different model that the master touch? If so, what are the differences? Thanks 👍

The extra height is worth every penny! Whichever one you get, make sure it's one of these two. The one without the ash can makes me nervous since its pretty dry here. 🔥

Here I am cooking tonight on my old 1986 Weber. I would have to struggle to convince myself to replace it. But I did like the video. Food for thought.

I have the Master Touch - bought it about 3 years ago. It’s obviously different for different markets (I’m in the United Kingdom) - as the U.K. version didn’t (when I bought it at least) come with a warming rack + the vents in the bowl are an oval shape and not a ‘P’ shape. Still a great bbq grilling system though. 👍🏼👍🏼

Thoughtful comparison especially the price breakdown which I never fully took into consideration. For me, the height comparison is very noticeable on the MasterTouch and I do love the rollback lid.
