A while back, I got so sick of the villification of the Tsars and Tsarist Russia I decided to go back and research the entire dynasty. One thing that peaked my interest was I was watching a TV show here in America called Jepordy starring Alex Trebek. He asked a the question...in the late 1500,s, what Russian Tsar fought a war against Poland, Sweden and the Nobles of his own country. I knew immidiately it had to be Ivan 4{the terrible}. Upon investigation I found that Ivan was a very popular Tsar amongst the common people. There was a huge propaganda campaign against him, espacially in Poland because a large amount of the Polish people wanted to become a part of Russia and be ruled by him. With all the research I've done I have come to the conclusion the reason for this is Ivan was part of the Rurik Dynasty who had ruled Russia for several hundred years and were simply not going to let the Nobles and Boyars have slaves{or serfs}. This is was he is so villified. Once he died, Russia became a mess and I got dizzy trying to keep up with all the Dimitris, false Dimitris and the likes.after they were able to dispatch Ivan's son. What came out of this was called the time of troubles. And Hark, the Nobles and Boyars came up with a solution. They would appoint a Tsar in order to stabalize Russia. He was a meek 16 year old kid who was the son of a Noble who had a liberal education who was completely controlled by the Nobles. In truth, the entire Romanov dynasty was a puppet regime who was completely controlled by the same people who would eventually villify and destroy it when they started to loose complete control of it. While one of the main things people use to villify the Romanovs for is serfdom, but there is no evidence that a Tsar or Empress ever owned or profited from them. Only the Nobles, who eventually overthrew Russia were allowed to own them.
I don't know why my heart aches every time I read about or see Nicholas II, I am not even a monarchist, and much less a Russian nor Orthodox Christian. May His soul and that of his family rest in the great Peace of God Almighty, Amin.

I can totally relate . I was born and raised a Lutheran, ( which Alexandra was before converting to Russian Orthodox... ) as a human being, and a Christian human being at that ,I feel for him. I notice in life he was a very good looking individual, I can see how Alexandra felt the way she did for him. Such a charming man he was .
Like myself, Since the 1990s I have been on the interest of the Russian Royal House. This is the best series ever that has proven my gut-feeling true about The Romanov. And the title is so correct. They are Martyrs. May they rest in Peace in Heaven.
I think the reason is because he mentioned several times that he had no desire to be the tsar in the beginning and then he and his whole family died because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time in history.
Photographs of the father, Tsar Nicholas, keeping his beloved, sickly son close to him and watching over him, says all about Nicholas' character that I need to know. George V said the Tsar was "weak as water," but King George was a shallow, mean man who treated his own sons miserably.
Hello Robert. Thank you for your comment! Yes, Tsar Nicholas was an exceptional father and from what has been written, we know that he had a very great impact on Alexei’s character and upbringing. You can watch out for our forthcoming video on the unique love shared by the Romanov martyred family. All best!
Finally. Someone has finally said and written publicly that the Tsar's strength was "beyond human comprehension". I would like to have seen how any of the other public figures: Paleologue, George V, Kaiser Wilhelm II or anyone else for that matter could have stood up to the betrayal and abandonment that the Tsar and his family had to endure. Beyond human comprehension. Very well put. Thank you this was beautiful.
Hi Grace! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our Royal Martyrs' channel. We have dedicated this project (social media and our forthcoming book) to proving exactly that: the life of the Tsar and his family were set in a prospective that is beyond human comprehension. Their faith in God and His will was exactly the opposite of what is generally believed. That is to say, not weakness but strength beyond this world...
Excellent well said. The only other Monarch I can think of who was betrayed and had great strength was Blessed Kaiser Karl I (pray for us) of Austria-Hungary.
Tsar Martyr Nicholas was so handsome, and he had such incredible blue eyes. Tsar Martyr Nicholas also had a good heart, and the strength to even forgive the Bolsheviks who murdered him and his family.
The Romanov family have enslave basicly 2/3 of all slavic people. There wherent allowed to travel nor switch masters or jobs. They made people into slave. And the people where sick of them. Not that lenin or stalin where any better. It was switching one evil for the next. But the slavic people realy didnt have any choich. Rebelling was thw only option. The soviets just took advantage of the power vacuüm.
I know his end in this world was tragic, but his faith shall give him a wonderful eternal life God bless you Tsar and family I am happy you are still in Christ until the end, that was the greatest thing that could happen
I wouldn't say, Tsar Nicholas II was 'weak' he was a devout Christian that believed what happens is in the hands of God. I today believe this still. Thank you for the video, it was incredibly moving to say the least.
He wasn't weak because of his devout faith, but because of his terrible decisions and disastrous reign. However, his blind believe that everything that happens is the will of GOD was a too convenient excuse to avoid any personal responsibility.
Dan Cooter That is the believe that you have to accept the will of God and all your problems to the Heavenly Father. God in the Bible vengeance is mine, he will punish the ones who done evil to you. Amen. The commies run Soviet Union for 70 years but from night to morning they gone. All the monuments destroyed but I hope that people does. Not forget them because the story repeats against.😢😢💕

I think Nicholas II had a lot of courage to turn his self will over to God. That is not easy to do. Also, he was an awesome father and husband. Wish more men were like him today.
Yes, I agree, he was a gentle, beautiful man who was all man, he loved his family....This puts a pit in my stomach what they had to go through, but I believe there were unseen angels on the scene to guide them to heaven....
Czar Nicholas was a gentle, compassionate Christian man who really never desired to be Czar! My heart saddens whenever I watch documentaries/history about that beautiful family's horrific demise...I believe that they are in Heaven with Our Lord, where they are at peace.
I’m sure the soldiers he led to slaughter, the serfs his stupidity starved, and the Jews killed in his pogroms will be heartened to know he was a true man of faith.
What a beautiful family, I got teary eyes just by looking at the pictures. May God have them in his holy kingdom for all eternity. Wonderful video btw, greetings from Argentina!

What an outstanding, heartfelt, and accurate portrayal of the royal family of Romanov Nicholas II. A truly wonderful account of how truly loving and humble Nicholas was in spite of all the glamor and opulence that came with such an obligation to his ultimate responsibility as Tsar of the an enormous nation as Russia. I'm truly grateful that Mr. Nicholson delivered how wrongly Nicholas II is portrayed in many text books in the west in addition to historians who never gave him credit to his many beneficial reforms to improve literacy and further education among his people. In addition, his critics hardly ever mentioning during his reign Russia's industry increased production, people were allowed to speak their opinion and unlike the cowardly murderous Bolsheviks Stalin, he accompanied his troops on the front during WW l. He was an extremely loyal and devoted man who's charitable donations to his people is hardly mentioned, not to mention his immense courage and love of his faith showed in everything he did. The shootings by the national guards which killed the demonstrators was not his doing but the order of his mutinous generals who betrayed him and ill advised him continuously. He cared for his people immensely but again they all betrayed him and with their diabolical plans forced him to abdicate. If he had loyal subjects and ruled with the same authority as his dad Alexander II, including getting rid of Rasputin, their would've have been no Russian revolution. Great piece on The Romanov's Mr. Nicolson, the best account of the truth about them that I've ever seen....
Dear Gus, thank you for this wonderful and detailed comment! Nicholas Nicholson is an exceptional Romanov scholar and, as Helen Rappaport has stated, he knows the story inside-out! It was an honour for us to have him on-board this project. He has contributed his great knowledge and his "touch" is very strong in our forthcoming book. Stay tuned for the release!
The first Emperor who promoted peasant education. Not sure of anyone else who did it. Adore his wife and his graceful family that stood by him in all his turmoils without any protest or resentment. None of their souls are on the planet today. They have all returned to their heavenly abode. It's we who miss them.
Emperor Nicholas' reign has never been rightly presented in English projects up to this day. People in the West keep repeating the century-long propaganda spread back then by the communist regime. In our book we have a first approach to and presentation of the real facts. Thank you for your comment here!

The cousins of my grandfather fought with Wrangel´s armies and those that survived were evacuated from Crimea in 1920, and moved some to the South of France and others to London. As a Catholic I thank Tsar Nicholas II for his Toleration Edict of 1905 which allowed the Russian Greek Catholic Church to form and granted members of Orthodoxy the ability to be in communion with Rome if they wish. It was only a fitting gesture since he bore the name of Romanov. God bless him and his family.

@@toffthe ...and that persecution was due to their treatment of Russian peasants and nobles alike. Usury was and is a sin, that along with scheming and anti-Russian (anti-gentile) sentiment lead to pogroms, same thing has happened in Germany, and many other places in Europe, too. The Kaiser lost his power to a similar plot, which lead to a reaction to Red Berlin by Hitler. It could have been avoided if they knew their place in the Russian Empire and the other nations in Europe, but they wanted rulership over the gentiles, not cohabitation.
Beautiful family who met a horrendous ending in that cellar in Yekaterinburg...I think of them often and how exceptionally brave they were to face their imprisonment and talk kindly to those who held them captive...Czar Nicholas and his wife Czarina Alexandra had a strong and loving marriage which in Royal marriages doesn't happen often 💜

The biggest stain on the monarchy of Britain's George V was that he failed to save his cousins in Russia. I realize times for very shaky for kings and queens bu the Romanovs were FAMILY. I wonder if it haunted George for the rest of his life. I hope so.
I admire both George V and Nicholas II, and I will say that in George V’s reign, it was perhaps his greatest lapse of judgement. Accounts do say that George V never forgave himself for refusing the chance to save his cousin.
@@s3jb453 it's true, they did not want to leave, but that does not change the fact that King George, or any other royals from Europe for that matter, did not offer their help.
Growing up in the 80s with the knowledge of Soviet Russia I was taken aback after watching the History channel The Land of the Tsars" which told the story of Russia and the Romanov Dynasty. One of the longest in history (300 yrs). I was captivated by the History of St.Basil church, The Kremlin and Moscow. And amazed at how Christianity, the Church was so important and tied into the rule of Russia.. I think the Romanovs greatest mistake was trusting Rasputin. They were good leaders apart from that. It's also very touching that Tsar Nicholas II hated ruling and simply wanted to enjoy life with his family.
Very well said! We agree with you 100% on their wrong understanding of Rasputin and that apart from that they were very good leaders! But it must be taken into consideration that Rasputin was the "right person at the right time". Both Alexandra and Nicholas, in the perspective of their pain and suffering due to Alexei's failing health, were looking to grasp from anything that could help their boy. And unfortunately, Rasputin appeared to do so - even if it not confirmed if he actually ever did help in an essential way. And this is how they can be somehow excused; and this is why their tragedy is even greater.

My ancestors worked for Nicholas II our family story goes that they were aware about The “overthrow” and fled before Nicholas capture. Burying their family belongings in a specific location (not saying where I hope to track it down one day) My family got out of Russia and eventually made it to Canada where they then worked for the Canadian government ... I wish I knew more most of the knowledge died with my great grandfather. Love the video
That's a great story j bob, kind of similar to mine although I have no Romanov connection, but my great-great grandfather, who was German managed to live unmolested in St. Petersburg throughout the war, but like your relative felt "something coming" in 1916/17 and fled, also supposedly burying various items. Alas I have no idea what, or where. He is also now long-gone as is his son, my grandfather, who might have known something. My Dad and I are left scratching our heads...

Whatever people want to say to disparage Nicholas, he adored and was faithful to his wife and family. At least the children were loved for their short lives. What a tragedy their murders were!
How faith and trust in God and His will is somehow a sign of weakness in anyone let alone Nicholas is beyond me. Getting off topic some but I want to say that I'm not of the Orthodox faith, I am merely a Christian, I was raised non-denominational Protestant. I look into and take inspiration from various Christian faiths and denominations including Eastern Orthodoxy, it's interesting to see the differences and similarities in beliefs and practices and I don't know why people have fought literal wars over God.
Thanks for sharing this here, Elsa! We had a blessed Mother (nun) in Orthodoxy who passed away in 1992 at the age of 94. She was a great missionary who traveled all over the world and worked in India helping the lepers. Sounds a bit like Mother Teresa, I guess, but she was different. Anyway, she used to say "I know five languages that can help me communicate with all the people in the world: The first is the smile; the second is tears. The third is to touch. The fourth is prayer, and the fifth is love. With these five languages I go all around the world." The book about her life is wonderful! A journey of love! A bit more about her: orthodoxwiki.org/Gabrielia_(Papayannis)
@@elsakristina2689 yes, she met Mother Teresa, she met Indira Gandhi and her father Nehru, as well as many other great people of India at the time. The difference of Mother Gavrilia from Mother Teresa is that she didn't create/establish any institution or anything of the sort. She was always on the move between all continents, and therefore her great work of love did not leave anything behind her than the memory and grace of it.
There is something very special about the Romanov's and to Tsar Nicholas. Their spirit, and the impressions they left for us in their thousands of family photographs are marred by the great war, the end of Russia as we knew it and their gruesome collective execution. There is some symbolism to them, something sacrificial, they seemed too innocent for the events that transpired around and would eventually consume them. Definitely going to buy this book after I finish Kotkin's Stalin!

If the reign of Nicholas II is considered weak it is because he was successful in the programs he initiated and he was a devout member of the Russian Orthodox Church, which the later Duma and communists did not want known to the Russian public. He was betrayed by those around him and is now along with his entire family Saints in the Russian Orthodox Church.
Nick was a reluctant Czar. He took over out of a sense of duty to God & the Romanov Dynasty. A crazy parallel exists here as well. That being Ivan 'The Terrible, with his legend being the 1st Romanov (with the terror he unleashed on his own people & the murder of his own son). And Nick, NOT being a power abusing leader but very practical, NOT seeing his family with an untrusting eye but instead very much in love with his wife (& she in love with him). NOT seeing his children as a present/future burden & willing to let the 'help' or court tend to them. He decreed he'd never subject his son to the pressures of being Czar.....The Romanov's...to start a reign so dark & end with such light & hope only to be struck down by the same darkness at the beginning of its hold on Russia.
From what I have studied, if Nicholas II would have had a little more time, he would have followed the wave from Western European countries (and relatives) in creating a more democratic Russia. He was very close to George V of the United Kingdom of Britain. With that said and the vast territory, wealth, and Russian sentiment from 300+ years of the Romanov dynasty, we would have a very different world today.
It is a pattern I have observed in many men. Those who are very loving and caring, close to their family, are not cut out to rule the world or be leader. It is because they are very compassionate men who will eventually fail because they need to be ruthless and uncaring. Tsar Nicholas was too much of a family men to be able to command a vast empire such as Russia. He was consider weak simply because he wasn't able to be ruthless. He was also ill advised by those around him
To quote Dickens: "It was the best of times...it was the worst of times". Yes,things went horribly wrong with the last Tsar & the Royal Family......however,it was a terrible thing committed by the Bolsheviks to brutally murder them in the end. Absolutely unpardonable !!

Their faith in God and His will was exactly the opposite of what is generally believed. That is to say, not weakness but strength beyond this world...
Excelente comentario.
Where was his good heart when he ordered the progroms against Jews? where thousands of Jews were murdered.
@@kobile790 He ordered no such thing. A pogrom happens spontaneously. If it's planned then it's not a pogrom.
i love tsar and his royal system...... they are the best heart of Russia......not lenin
Lenin murdered Romanov Family!
The Russians should have realized that a man who could commit murder of an entire family would not treat them any better
thank you for your answer
The Tsar was a notorious antisemite and during his reign, pogroms occurred throughout the empire resulting in the murder of approximately 3,000 Jews.
Extraordinary man. It enriches my heart to read, watch and ponders on this gorgeous family.
I know his end in this world was tragic, but his faith shall give him a wonderful eternal life
God bless you Tsar and family
I am happy you are still in Christ until the end, that was the greatest thing that could happen
What do you think of Islam as a Christian? 😊
TRUTH i agree with you
Dan Cooter That is the believe that you have to accept the will of God and all your problems to the Heavenly Father. God in the Bible vengeance is mine, he will punish the ones who done evil to you. Czar Nicholas was a gentle, compassionate Christian man who really never desired to be Czar! My heart saddens whenever I watch documentaries/history about that beautiful family's horrific demise...I believe that they are in Heaven with Our Lord, where they are at peace.

Truly a most tragic betrayal... Accounts say that George V was haunted by it.

Truly a Tragedy. God Bless this Family ☦️
He was a handsome man

There is something very special about the Romanov's and to Tsar Nicholas. Their spirit, and the impressions they left for us in their thousands of family photographs are marred by the great war, the end of Russia as we knew it and their gruesome collective execution.

He was also ill advised by those around him
Your words also apply to our last monarch (D.Pedro II of 🇧🇷)
Omg! He was too damn handsome 😍
No actors from todays world cannot stand by his looks
He wasn't a bad person, he just wasn't a good leader.
To quote Dickens: "It was the best of times...it was the worst of times". Yes,things went horribly wrong with the last Tsar & the Royal Family......however,it was a terrible thing committed by the Bolsheviks to brutally murder them in the end. Absolutely unpardonable !!
Thanks for quoting the great Dickens! So rightly said! Many thanks!
