Yes. They think they are the most important, most best, most smartest person in the world. My narcissist husband was such a groveling kiss-up in public, but he felt he was fooling everyone. He thought they all believed his insincere flattery and his "charming" jokes. At home, he was a heartless tyrant. Why should he give up the throne of power and control, and lower himself to be equals with people he believes are beneath him? Why should he take anyone's feelings into consideration when only his feelings matter? It reminds me of a line from Alice through the Looking Glass. Alice meets one of the queens in the forest and says, "I'm sorry, I lost my way". The queen says, "YOUR way?! All the ways around here are MY way!!"
There or in your analysis is believing they “feel”. They don’t think like you.
You half expect them to show up at your door with flowers, food and drink when they've really hurt you. You fly to the window thinking it's them if you hear someone outside but of course it * never is the selfish, mindless narc. They simply leave you to stew and stew and stew no matter what turmoil you are in because of them.
I believe every word I've just heard here. ThanQ for helpfully putting things into perspective.

Literally my mom threw a tantrum, because I didn’t have enough space in my house for some of her unnecessary decorations.
So I finally left her house.
A week later, she told me that she tried to give the decorations to my brother but he didn’t want them, so she threw them away.
I then said, if you were going to just throw them away, then why did you throw a tantrum over them? And she said , “ no I didn’t throw a tantrum.” And I said mom, you INSISTED that I take them. And she said, “ no I didn’t.” I always knew that I was going to throw them away if no one wanted them.
So there you have it. What’s worse than throwing a tantrum over trash?

Can’t just get out. Need to just figure out how to get on with my own life from with in this arrangement, as best as I can. Let him do him but accepting certain unacceptables is just not gonna happen. He may need to figure something else out if he ends up there though. That will be on him.

This explains why I've come to find out that many times he makes up entire stories just to fit some the lies he often tells me. And I always wonder why/how is it that he seems to believe all the BS that comes out of his mouth.
If you can’t prove the narcissist’s behavior bc it’s mental/emotional/gaslighting is it possible to get a restraining order? Do you need another person to help you get police protection?

@@nmd3132 I would but we have a child together. We are not living together and she will not allow me to see my child. I feel like she is using our child as a constant source of leverage in the relationship. So there is a part of me that hopes the narcissist will change even though I know chances are close to zero. Catch 22 if you will.
