What started as a 2 sheets homeless shelter challenge has since morphed into a multi use structure for the field artist, wild life observer or used as a small office.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. It was a fun challenge, and although it didn't turn out how I originally planned, it was a blast building it and watching it take on a life of its own.
paul, your designs knock me out, you simplify a complicated problem in a most novel way
Hey Kaleb, Nice gas mask demo vid. I steer away from pedal vehicles because I blew my knees out years ago, so I wouldn't have the use for one, although a 4 wheel drive quad would be cool.
always love seeing your project's keep up the good work Paul
Sorry about your mum passing choppersrule1. It was recently 5 years ago that my brother passed. It still hurts.
Paul Elkins
Lost dear mom in June. Will never ever stop missing her.
Inspirational! I love the tiny space. My dream is to live as a nomadic minimalist, and am currently exploring ways this may come to be. Gives me hope...
did u ever roam?
I TOLD A FRIEND ABOUT YOU PAUL AND YOUR'E LITTLE HOUSE'S. GREAT WORK.
I ABSOLUTLY "LOVE" THIS....How creative.....even the 'stove'...AWESOME !!!
I was thinking of turning this into a bike camper, but was concerned about the excess weight, and the storage shelves are up high which would make it too top heavy for windy conditions. I have several other bike camper designs in mind. Some day...
May i buy a bike camper from you
what state do you live in
There's so many homeless on the street, this would be great for them from the elements and a place to lay there heads ..it would be amazing to have mass produced and given to those who are ..your truly a very creative guy .TY for sharing..
Always fun to see what your up to.I'm at it again myself.Building a shelter based on a 4x8 footprint with power, water, heat and more to put on a truck, trailer, boat or the ground.
Paul Elkins Genio !! Admiro sus trabajos!! FELICITACIONES!!
Your little shelter is great !!!
Thanks for the the new video Paul, keep up the good work!
Hi Paul. I think you're a great constructor. When I watch your videos I'm in a good mood for the whole day. I'm obsessed with creating things myself too. I do everything myself. Now I make recumbent bike and the whole equpiment to it. I am going make a little house similiar to one you made. Greetings from Poland.
Pretty light and creative.
love your creations. i'm amazed that plastic is so cheap!
Uauuu PAUL IS FOR ME, FOR MY LIFE, MY DREAM!!! THANK-YOU PAUL FROM ITALY!!!!!!
Love the minimalist theme. You sure do make lots of handy shelters and other awesome things out of every day objects. Great job and keep it up. That would make a great PC gaming chamber with a powerful laptop in it lol. Something like a gaming escape pod.
Great job! A place to stay out of the cold and alive. A place to think and relax too. Nice! Keep up the great inventing.
great project paul got to build one one day. all my projects have been put on hold as my mum passed away in november this year. so when i get sorted out i will finishes the one i sarted before she got sick.
keep up the great work

Nice work "yet again" Paul. I'm the same way with tape measures . I have about 6 of them laying around so when I misplace one I will find another while looking for the first one.
Me too! I like to forge ahead when I'm creating something. It's not until I misplace all my tape measures that I force myself to stop and clean up.
Very neat set up. Add a bicycle hitch arm that clamps to a seat post, and tow it behind a bicycle (electric bike, of course, I hear ya on the bad knees).
Neat ending, helped me not feel so bad about myself. I have several tape measures now so I can locate one. I too am really at home in these secluded spots. Might need another board for a backrest when your legs are hanging out? ha...Nice work on that project as well. I am going to build your trike with the corrugated sheets somehow, someway, someday. Has to be fun!
Thank you for sharing. I plan to build one soon for a homeless individual
Very nice Paul!
You are a very ingenious person...
It's beautiful! Beautiful work Paul
Thank you so much for sharing this video...
nice , good stuff, love that fluted plastic.
Nice work! Im thinking of trying my own micro project where i live in Scotland. Insulation will be needed for my design!
I like it, small space is no problem if you have a great view.
you cut those circles freehand in the plastic a lot better than I can.
I need to learn to make these wonderful shelters so that my body in the living room sofa bed won't irritate the spouse.
So cool was Du alles machst !!!
I love these builds! I’m eager to get started on one 😁
Call your tools that hide under your other tools... always works for me. Haha nice shelter.
Me and a guy from work have started talking about bicycle camper designs because of finding your videos. The dream would be to build one capable of touring Europe. I'm trying to figure out a good foldable design but I'm not as smart as you. A bicycle towed fold out trailer tent type thing with a little storage underneath would be amazing.
Paul Elkins..."The King of Coroplast". Keep 'em comin".
I think an easy way of improving the stove would be to change the exhaust routing. Instead of the side, it could come from two places on the top, and coil around the can a few times, before leading higher along the wall to a simple homemade radiator, then exhaust outside. Obviously, something to block the cooking hole too.
It would certainly keep a lot more heat in the cabin. Just so long as you're careful not to make the exhaust flow too restrictive. I don't think an external air intake is needed at all.
I'd like to see more of a backpack tent for the homeless, maybe even one a family could get it. Or on wheels, whatever the concept, then have someone with balls hold free assembly line building sessions WITH the able bodied homeless to out together a ton of them. I know if I was on the streets, I'd have the skills to build something with spare change, but it's tough with no access to tools, supply's, etc. it'd be neat to see an entire village of them and people out of the cold. More homeless are coming... Just take a good look at Detriot, Chicago, skid row in California, etc etc
Great fucking job Paul!
Very inspiring.
I am going to do this as a wood work project at school
You are awesome!
nice build Paul. I had to subscribe after seeing one of your videos. I think I have seen them all. I really like the teepee and I see many uses for it.
Cheers
Hey Paul, your an awesome Carpenter and just wanted to say I love your style and your handy work. I wish I could build like you. I just draw ideas but I never make it reality. You go that extra step and your awesome at it. I'm sorry about your brother too.. I skimmed some of the comments you wrote.
Carpenter I am not, but I can fake it OK.
I use to be like you, full of ideas but scared to make anything. The first step is find space. This can even be in a bedroom. Buy some basic tools: drill, hand saw, hammer etc. Go to garage sales for tools. build a small work bench. Mount a small vise, start collecting nuts and bolts you see on the ground. Ask for tools for Christmas. Tinkering is a great way to have fun. I personally love it!!!!
you should put a flap in the top for the lamp/lantern in the peanut can
Thank you!!!
I hope you get a Mac Arthur Genius grant.Very usefull things for living.
you're awesome keep up the good work
I really like the minimalist idea and I wish I could get coroplast cheaply around where I live to try a few ideas of my own. Anyways as you probably know anyone living in a shelter like that has to be able to move locations quickly for a various number of reasons and they may have to do it in in-climate weather. I was wondering if you have ever thought of making a shelter that can be pedal powered or even have electric power that can be driven from inside, like a micro RV. The power could come from old car batteries and the motor/drive from an electric wheelchair.
Well done!
Paul, I absolutely love your videos! I found out about you from Kirsten Dirksen's RUclips page and found your video so inspiring. Please keep making these videos, because I love seeing what you'll come up with next.
Warm Regards,
Marcus Parsons
Thanks Marcus. Dreaming up stuff and showing the world is what I love to do, and hearing kind words of encouragement like yours really is wonderful.
High Paul,
You do great stuff. I saw your homeless pushcart and I thought that it would be great for my Miami to Los Angeles Southern Tier Transcontinental Trek. But then I thought of all the hills I would need to push it over. I got the idea of adapting your pushcart using an electric golf cart motor with 400 watt solar cells on top for my power needs to document the walk. I need to carry about 4 of those blue Igloo water containers in order to cross the desert in winter. My daughter worried were I was going to sleep so I thought of limiting the width to standard door size so I can bring into a motel room on emergencies. What do you think of adapting your plans for something like this? Thanks
That is really cool
awesome
Nicely done Paul. I wonder if I can use that same plastic for a permanent dome cover. How bad does it expand and contract ? Can it be fused together with a heat source?
That was a fun video to watch. That would be a great trailer for a bicycle trip.
Never thought about that. Good idea
I was looking around the net for ideads for a new bike trailer, especially one that could double as a camp shelter. I am really impressed with your creation.
Have you considered adding styrofoam to it for additional rigidity and insulation to extend its use into spring and fall?
I was, and even more considered wool blankets or aluminum foil bubble wrap. Both would have worked best if installed before I added the coro skin.
that is so cool!!!!
In my area the cops would go nuts and arrest people for sleeping in such a device. We often see homeless people who own cars trying to live in their cars or vans and the cops arrest them as well. The catch is that people are always on either public or private property and it is a gotcha, arrest, situation. Frankly law enforcement is actually a cause of homelessness in many places.
This is similar to what is happening all over the country. Cops with bad attitudes generally are the ones making the arrests. Most will tell you to move along, and a few will leave you alone.
I fear this past decade we have seen many military individuals come out of service and take up policing as a career. Many of those who saw action in the war have hidden issues and I think what we've seen recently on the news might be some proof to this idea. No disrespect, just saying...
I'm not real big on computer programs, but you can use cad or whatever to calculate exactly how to use the most of a sheet without any waste... I'm sure you may have it already , but maybe not
Hello Mr Elkin, do you sell any of these items you meticulously create? If so, how would one buy one/see which are for sale?
Hey Karen. I just make the prototypes and when successful I'll sometimes make and sell build plans on my website. www.ElkinsDIY.com/plans Sorry...
how much would this cost to build? we have a hell of a homeless problem here in Eugene, or, I was thinking that this design combined with a homeless rv park complete with portapoties water source and a police substation would be a solution for the homeless here
You are able to get a good sized piece of Coroplast sheet at Lowe’s for 10 dollars, and I think this is about 2-3 sheets, so it’s *20 dollars*. I did some more calculating and found out that the pieces of wood he used equaled out to about 20 pieces, which at 75 cents a piece equal out to *15 dollars*, maybe a little more. The price of the fence used to create the rollable base is about *15 dollars*, and the price of a set of 4 5” wheels is *26 dollars*. The rest of it will need to be assembled together with a drill and some screws which aren’t hard to find and I’m sure someone will be willing to donate one, and I’m not sure of the price of other things, but with some searching I’m sure something will turn up. :)
Will fiberglass stick to this? Thinking of making a small camper, looks like this would be as mold material.
Hi Paul, I've come across your videos and have watched a number of them. Can you tell me where you got your wheel axle? I've been wanting to build myself a bike trailer but the one problem I have is finding an axle long enough for the entire width of the project. I plan on using the 26 or 20 inch wheels I have . Thanks.
how good did the oil lamp stove work out for heating meals / heating the room? how good dit the right (candle) stove work out for heating? looks great! maybe togehter with your new insulated 150$ bike camper it would work great?
Were do you get your coraplst? Love the videos
With a bit of a mod you can make it able to be pulled by a bike.
Go for a bit of a tour and you have a place to take a rest.
i was just wondering what you used for the back wheels
could you lay out the blueprints of the building ?
Paul, I live in Auburn, WA. Where can I find coroplastic local to us?
Wow 🤩
Kirkland!!!!Say it isn't corporately so!!!!
MR ELKINS what ever became of your little yellow dome home idea for emergency situations could you possibly figure out a way to connect them say two or three together lve watched a video of the mass rocket stove do you think you could adapt that sort of stove to your shelters l believe it can be used to heat and cook on perhaps it would generate to much heat for such a small space l remember you said you were looking for a way to heat such a shelter l hope you.ve found it l see your working on a wick form of heating l would think the camping community would be all over this you might go on that new show called shark for backing if you can get the big retail stores interested best to you and yours
LOVE IT :D !!
And that's a thought, gear it towards kids... I think "escape pod" was written below...a quiet place for homework or just play and be a kid.... Hmmmm
NICE
You need a space for a big dog, though ;-)
Were do you get your meterals
l can't dive a car, but l can dive a bike to city with this. like waiting for new footware come out. ^_^
of which make the walls and floor?
🤩 wow
is nice

Maybe a handle on the outside so homeless people could relocate it easily.
what's wrong with the videos youtube, they are not playing.
Can you do a 4 wheel drive bicycle
what's the green board like material you used?
+Jacob Reagan
It's called 'fluted plastic' or corrugated plastic. Coroplast is the trade name in USA. It's 4mm thick.
+Paul Elkins thank you!
Aunque es interesante, creo que es incomoda para su transporte
You look like Gibbes from NCIS when you say it is Gibbis.
I want this because of reasons
How well does the stove work?
This stove worked well. The one veg oil candle burned hot enough to warm up a can of beans and burned for 24 hours straight. I'd make an aluminum ring cover though. The plywood ring got some burn marks. It vented well too.
How well does it keep the shelter warm?
any way I can get more in depth demintions
I've just added a drawing of the sheet layout. No dimensions but good enough to give you the idea.
+Paul Elkins ok thanks
Use carbon fiber, epoxy, high speed wheels and suspension.
what do u mean by 2 sheets? 2 48x96
+Mitch McCann Yes. Two 4x8 foot sheets.
thank u
Does it leak at all?
Not much. If I were to use it on a regular basis I'd arc the roof some so the flat top wouldn't pool rain water.
Ok
ever study geodesic design? it dovetails with your "more with less" ideal.
Do you have any kids?
attach that thing to a bike :o
why not make a howse bote
+Dylan Wood lmfao
Can you send me 5 sheets of 4mm coroplast
вы есть городской сумасшедший да?
