I came your channel because of a dining table, but stayed for the mini man cave. :) A man needs a shed at times, even if it's on wheels. Thanks for the project and the video.
Thanks cmonkey63, the micro shelter has proven to be a comfortable space for quiet reflection and planning. The kids use it quite a bit as well. Thanks for stopping by and I wish you well.
Classy shelter brother. I'm impressed by the utility that you used in such a small space. I'd love to see what you could do using 100% recycled odds and ends to build one. Cheers!
This is an interesting idea. I am currently using random cushions to create the perfect sitting conditions. Your drop down floor option would provide even more versatility.
Cool. Do you put a cover over the skylight in the summer? I'd have a piece of the floor board cut away & made so it could be in its usual mode as the floor, or lowered down to the ground so you could put your feet down and sit like you're in a regular chair. I'd have plywood on each side that'd go up & down w/ the floor section & have 2 plywood panels running side to side hinged to the underside of the floor that would be folded down to close off the well when the floor panel's on the ground.
Yeah bean bags. You could have a few of them (for a guest or two). If not in use you can stack them somehow, without taking space like chairs would do.
Awesome shelter. I'm going to build something similar but with slightly improved livability (I.E.) water containment, cook-stove, bathroom facility. Cool videos.
Sounds great, I'd love to see some photos of it once it is done. If you have not already seen it, you should check out Paul Elkin's version of a micro shelter, he has added some of those extras you are planning. Happy building!
You could roll it onto a trailer using a makeshift ramp. Maybe even put a little deck around the trailer, with storage below. Even a outdoor kitchen to the side.
Hi Vera, that is a great idea to build them for the homeless. Sorry there are no plans I can give you, I always just build from the plan I have in my head. Let me know if you get a few of these up and running.
I have seen a few of small shelter/homes. Very nice. Well done. Now I have a small question. I don't think I have seen one of three micro houses that is tall enough for a person to stand in, for example around 2 m high. What is the reasoning why they are built with a very low roof?
For my design I was really after a space that I could sit to read a book or lie down to sleep. Therefore I built this micro shelter with the dimensions to do this exact task. I do have another design concept kicking around in my mind that would be more cube shaped and would accommodate a desk and the ability to stand tall. Are you considering building your own micro shelter?
G'Day Zach, the plans were never written up, I just worked from the idea I had in my head. You can get a better feel for the construction at my film Micro or wwwdotTheDirtEffectdotcom. I did try to match the dimensions to my needs and the available timber specs. I really started out with the roof size and built it around that. The walls are 1.2 metres to 1.0 metres in height, approx 2.2 metres in length and the Outback Shack is just narrow enough to roll down the side path (90cm).
I like that for the mother in law lol and you could also when board with it use it to take your chickens on holiday haha Oh and a portable green house its a good idea
I want one for my self I really need that at this moment at this time... 😭😭😭😭 But I can't even afford the materials and can't do it by my own maybe I can but I don't have material s and equipment 😭😭😭 whats makes me sad that I really need that 😭😭😭
Would have spent close to $1000 but bear in mind I live in Australia and the wheels were about $200 alone. If you live in the US or use more re-cycled elements you could do a funkier version for next to nix. Check out this vid for inspiration, ruclips.net/video/9ppB72v-8nY/видео.html . Let me know if you get building.
Great idea! If it weren't for some governing idiots (fortunately not all politicians are like that!), this would solve a lot of ocial problems for a very inexpensive price! God bless you!

A better temporary shelter than tents. 😊

Eva thought of using a bean bag inside??? pretty comfy..
+William Dawbarn Arrr, now your talking. That's a great idea!

The Dirt Effect I'm subbed to Paul. After watching a couple of your vids I subbed you as well. Keep up the good work.
is there a way to put it on an actual trailer? this looks great to go camping in.

omg.... how sweet..... btw, thanks so much for the updates. If you ever use it remotely... please take us along with you.
Thanks Kat, stay tuned for further adventures.
Will you ever put cart handles on it? You could theoretically move it around a lot easier by adding cart handles on the structure...
Can you give us the plan for that? I’d like to build that for a homeless person here in Chicago and I am no carpenter but can follow a plan. Thank you

Wondering how it is holding up 5 years later. Is it still around?

+Mossy Bark I wonder how it would go on AirBnB? Would $2 a night be too steep?
+The Dirt Effec Thats a really cheap price and a good idea you may need to add some sort of loo and some way to wash before bed and in the morning.
The garden hose .... Grin.... I would stay in it!
you could take some nice bong rips in therr and get a nice little hot box goin huh??
Excellent!
You can be interred in it?
What your house is not big enough ?
Private companies and charitable institutions should go into this………
That music reminds me of Darth Vader on helium.

Thanks for your interest. I have produced a film to answer your question eastrockaway11518 and it is titled 'Can You be Interred in a Micro Shelter'.
