    I currently have one in a 60 gallon and was hoping to have a species tank with them in my 60 but would you not recommend that? How many could I keep in the 60 if they are the only fish in there? Or would it be best to keep other smaller species with my single EBA instead?

    I have these,rams,and peacocks. The Acaras are now my favorite but are super aggressive when breeding. I had 1 male and 4 females they killed the weakest female . Moved them to another bigger tank with more places to hide then killed another female. Went to clean the tank glass and they started attacking my hand that when I notice I had two bunches of frys on each side of the tank. My male is stud lol at on 3” females a lill smaller

    You can put egg crate on top to keep the fish from jumping out and it won't diffuse your light that bad. Did you ever have problems with them eating plants.

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  4 года назад

      I chose to use glass lids on my tanks now :) I didn't like the look of an egg crate. I didn't have any problem with them eating my plants. I kept them well fed so they had no reason to munch.

    How long can you keep mom and dad in the tank with fry if it’s just them and no other fish ? Thanks

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  4 года назад

      So you don't have inbreeding between the kids and parents, I would remove them once the blue color starts coming in.

  • @Redneckrino
    @Redneckrino 2 года назад +1

    hey I just had some breed in a community 125 tank with a pleco and rainbow fish. So I took the rock out and put in in a 5 gallon with good media and a airstone at 78 degrees. Do you think this is a good plan?

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  2 года назад

      If you have a mechanical filter, make sure the outlet is covered with something so the small ones don't get sucked in. Air sponge filters are recommended.
      If the parents aren't with them, you'll have to have small enough food for them to eat as when they hatch they are very small.
      As long as you keep the water clean this all sounds great.

    • @Redneckrino
      @Redneckrino 2 года назад +1

      @@FeraAcademy thanks man appreciate the fast reply. No filter is running at the time. Only filter media in there with them with airstone until they start swimming. I will run it eventually with a guard on it. Thanks bud👍🏼

    So my acarra have layed eggs so should i remove the eggs or let them hatch they are in a comunty fihs tank of 1.50 meters.

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  4 года назад

      Sorry, I just saw this. If the parents do a good job protecting the fry, them absolutely leave them. A lot of breeders choose to separate them because when hatched, they can easily be sucked into normal filters (sponge filters are fine). That all depends on your preference for how you want to breed them.

    How agressive are they towards the discus?

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  8 лет назад

      I've noticed while the Acaras are breeding, they will fend off an area of the tank from the discus, but nothing drastic. They get along well and I haven't yet had any issues. My largest is about 4.5" so they aren't fully grown yet. I'm hoping this behavior is consistent as they age. Overall, they are very peaceful and I haven't had any aggression issues with any other species....yet. I've kept them with Discus, Apistos, Angels, Rummynose, Cardinal Tetras, Sterbai Cories, and maybe a couple of other fish I can't remember. As they grow, I probably wouldn't keep them with smaller tetras because they'd be an easy meal.

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  2 года назад +1

      If I remember correctly we had a gH of around 120-150. They do like softer water but I had bought them bred in local water that was similar to what I was breeding them in.

    • @FeraAcademy

      You can see the sexual dimorphism easier when the fish are ready to breed. The female will exhibit an almost navy blue head while the male will get patches of the dark blue throughout his body. Males tend to be bigger and I've noticed their fins seem to be longer as well. As I study them more I'll eventually put out a more detailed video on these guys. I just need more time to study them. Have a look at when they were breeding about 2 months before this video (you can really see the difference): ruclips.net/video/9-KLBqxHue8/видео.html

    How do you know male for female

    • @FeraAcademy
      @FeraAcademy  2 года назад

      Look at their vents. The shape of the fish and fins can also differ. The easiest way to tell was during breeding the male would turn dark blue. I wish I had made a more detailed video but you can't tell until they get their color. Then, you can easily see.

    These fish are not gonna get up to 7 inches, you don’t need to get 8 of them you can get 1 if you like they’ll be fine and you don’t have to get a big giant tank you can get a 40 gal, 30 gal, or bigger. If you want more than 1 recommend to get at least a 40 gal and up. I repeat you do NOT need to get a big giant tank and you do NOT need to get a whole bunch of them they can live by themselves just fine if that’s what you want
