    I had never heard of Paul Walker, having never watched a Fast and Furious film. One night while flipping through channels, I came upon this gorgeous actor and had to stop and watch the rest of his movie. Imagine my absolute shock the next night while reading the latest celebrity news on my TMZ app, a headline screaming that Paul Walker had been killed that afternoon in a car accident. What a tragedy for his daughter and girlfriend plus his parents and siblings.

    So many things were done wrong by the driver, Roger Rodas. Firstly, two of the tires on the Porsche were over nine years old (Porsche recommends that tires be replaced after four years on high performance sports cars). As a result, the rubber compound in the old tires was heavily oxidized and was no longer near as elastic as newer tires; the worn tires could thus provide only seriously compromised traction or 'grip' in a high speed cornering maneuver. Secondly, traveling at high speeds on a public road with two way traffic prevented Rodas from being able to hold a 'racing line' as he had to stay in his lane through the corner. Race car drivers are on a one way closed circuit track and can drive so that their cars follow a racing line that gives their vehicles the most stability during high speed cornering. If a racing line can't be maintained at high speed, there is a much greater risk of tires losing traction during cornering. Factoring in speed, very old tires with severely compromised grip performance, and the inability to drive a racing line due to two way traffic conditions, this accident was almost guaranteed to happen.
    Although Rodas and Walker were in fact on a straight portion of the road when control was lost, the old tires would've never properly recovered from forces imposed on them during the cornering immediately proceeding he accident. The tires would've been 'loose' on the asphalt and very vulnerable to completely losing traction when forces associated with high speed, off the racing line conditions in the straight portion of the road were imposed.
    Rodas has been described as a 'veteran' race car driver, but the blatant mistakes he made that led to both his and Walker's death paint him as reckless and inexperienced.

      @ilanarhian 2 года назад +6

      That’s really interesting, thanks for explaining it for people like me who don’t know much about cars. The tire thing seems like such a basic mistake to make!

      Thank you for this thorough break down. I recall either Rodas' or Walker's family trying to sue Porshe for the accident, but all the mitigating factors you described sound like the only ones at fault where the ones who decided to speed recklessly. Very sad and avoidable tragedy.

    • @zamoak3156
      @zamoak3156 Год назад

      You forgot Porsche. Their supercars are not easy to drive at high speeds. Easier to oversteer or lose control due to the body design (engine location...) I'll bet you my whole money that had they drove a different brand that day, they would be still alive today. There's a reason why many people in the racing industry call Porsche "a cursed car"

    If I remember correctly I was at work when an alert from twitter came in saying that the Dearly Departed twitter account had sent out a new tweet.
    “Paul Walker. Dead.” Something to that affect.
    Went and checked the news site to sees what happened. I told some of the nurses on my shift, some of them didn’t believe it.
    But that’s how I have learned of So many celebrity deaths through through the years. This one hit in a way I never expected considering I had only seen 2 of the FATF franchise movies, and maybe seen him in another. I think it was the circumstance and the way it affected those that worked with him. He seemed like a very kind and cool guy who had a great career ahead of him. What a horrible way to go.

    As tragic as this accident and loss of life was/is, I think it was a beautiful thing that Paul Walker's brothers stepped in to take his place, acting as body doubles and possibly some minor voice work, so that F&F 7 could be finished.
    All 3 Walker boys/men looked and sounded alike. And if memory serves, the PTB (Powers That Be) used Paul's brothers' similarities in body type to use CGI one the close ups, and since one of the older brothers sounded exactly like Paul, it was his voice in the ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) that we hear.
    I MIGHT be wrong about the voice work, to a point but, I know that the brothers lent their bodies to the ending of the film.
    It was a beautiful thing, them helping to finish out Paul's last movie by standing in for him.
    Even in their personal, familial grief, they were thinking of Paul's friends, fans, and legacy.

    Not to go off subject of this video of Paul and his friend, but I had to point out that this in a lot of ways reminds me of the crash that killed Ryan Dunn from the Jackass movies & Bam Margeras best friends, except the fact that Ryan Dunn was extremely intoxicated in a fast car with one other person, and he was the driver. Ryan drove way too fast and ultimately lost control and ended their lives in a fiery crash wrapped around a tree in a ditch after busting thru a guardrail and going off the road. Ryan Dunns crash was horrific as well. But alcohol, excessive speed and a very powerful car is a guaranteed recipe for disaster. Ryan’s death was also a huge contributing factor to Bam Margeras downfall. He hasn’t been the same since he lost his best friend in such a horrific way. The video of Bam in tears and beyond devastated at the crash sight hours after it happened is so heartbreaking.
    RIP to all lost in both crashes. Both crashes were tragic and needless.
