Hi I'm Scott Michaels.
I own Dearly Departed Tours in Hollywood and the original Celebrity Death webpage, www.Findadeath.... Scott, only you can turn an otherwise tedious wait for car repair into a great “seedy side” of Hollywood Tour
I’m 55 and I lived in Los Angeles county for 6 years as a little kid and Orange County and Riverside County the rest of my life until I left California in 2008. I remember so many places and things about SO CAL. I remember when I was growing up in Huntington Beach we had the freeway killer William Bonin and my friend David was the only survivor of the freeway killer and his accomplices. I also remember so many high profile murder cases and political situations. it was a crazy time growing up in the 60s and 70s and 80s i mean it was fun don’t get me wrong but there was just a lot of things I’ll never forget. Thrifty Drug store 3 scoops of ice cream for $.15
Thank you for sharing Growing up in Indianapolis always thought about what it would be like to live in California and New York so I live vicariously through all of these storytelling in Scott’s channel
Thrifty had the best ice cream!
@@lorijohnston4311 I only buy this ice cream as an adult.
Scott, take a walk like this daily, as much as possible, and you will quickly do very well on youtube. This was great!
I agree you see a lot more on foot which is great for us
I am hoping to get to LA in spring 2021 now I know where to visit
@@daedralord1 0⁹⁰⁹⁹0
@@bernardsherry5642 well its almost 2023... Did you ever make the trip a year and a half ago??
The only upside at ALL to being stuck in our houses is that you have the time and gumption to pop out these awesome videos Scott! Fantastic stuff for us movie star/sleaze fans to consume. Thanks so much for these!
This was a cool idea to do a walking tour type thing. Easier to see things than when you are in a van or car. I love seeing this stuff.
I never heard that story about Debbie Reynolds & the costumes.
Oh, yeah. Debbie was determined to save as much Hollywood memorabilia as possible.
Yup it's a known story!
I knew she had a HUGE collection but didn't know she got them that way!
Right?! That was kinda shady of the Miss 🙊
Debbie owned a Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas from 1992-1997 and had a museum there with all the costumes on display.
My old Neighborhood, I use to live on the Halloween house street (N. Orange Grove) I miss that neighborhood! I lived there when they filmed the season for American Horror story and it was a f*cking Nightmare! They would block off the streets and there would be huge production trucks running all day and night. Just give you what it was like, you know when you walk around a State Fair or Carnival and the trucks and generators that the rides are connected to are running and you walk behind or between them and that loud running engine sound with that hot air blowing! Yeah that, right outside your door!
Not to mention we had parking permits for the street and we would have to move our vehicles a block away when there is hardly any parking as it is, and yeah Street cleaning days also really make things even worse!
One night my gf and I were walking to the Coffee Bean around the corner and they were filming a scene on the side of the Baby sitter house from Halloween, the one where Michael Myers is walking across the street to get Jamie Lee Curtis (Lori Strode). Well we lived on that street so legally we can leave when we wanted. So My gf and I are basically walking around the set with the crew and next thing we know, we hear "ACTION" and the director was filming a shot on the side of the house and my gf and i just casually walk behind the camera like "Oh shit, they are filming!!!" we were laughing the whole night about that, pretty funny.
The one cool thing though, I went to leave at night around 9 pm and there were snow banks on the sidewalks and curbs that were pretty much all melted! This was July in southern California. So I went and grabbed some snow and made a snowball and ran back in my place and threw it at my gf! I yelled "it's snowing outside!! She had the WTF look? and ran outside with me while we took pics and video.
I once found a dead guy on the corner walking around at 1 am, but I will save that for another time.
Scott, Man I can't get enough of your work, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT !
My first neighborhood when I moved to LA 20 years ago. Lived in a building on Vista behind the old Denny’s. It was Hooker Central back in those days. Angelyne sightings at the Denny’s were plentiful. I couldn’t find a job so I went to Blockbuster and was hired at minimum wage. Awful job but saw a lot of celebs when they came in to rent VHS movies. Christina Ricci was the first ( very cool and nice ) and would see Kutcher and Tara Reid, Topher Grace and actually gave Eddie Izzard his first Blockbuster card when he was living here while shooting a movie. It was my first experience in LA and I’m glad I had it. Later became a waiter on the Sunset Strip at the old Hamburger Hamlet. Met tons of famous folks there. Some of whom I still know. The Sunset Strip is all but unrecognizable now. Makes me sad but appreciative that I got to see it before it completely changes. Been following you over the years Scott. I hope you can continue sharing your knowledge and passion with us.
The buildings where so interesting back then. Now everything looks so cluttered. Totally enjoyed Vlog, thank you!
Old Hollywood was something. Long gone ... 🎭
Enjoyed that, Scott.! Just can't grasp how such a beautiful city(and state, for that matter) can be so absolutely fucked up. I live on the flat plains of the Texas Panhandle and have always thought California was beautiful!
I think your shitty state is fucked up. The worst corrupt politicians besides florida.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy and treasure your videos. Ex passed away recently and your videos bring back alot of memories. Thank you.
OH MAN. THIS VIDEO IS EXCELLENT. When you went to Elm Street AND Haddonfield in ONE video, that blew me away. You are a walking plethora of trivia/info. VERY INTERESTING. I love your channel. Great stuff. Made my day even better.
I LOVED this. Fascinating. I stayed around Fairfax and Beverly mid March, (Across from CBS) right before the lock down. You make me want to go back...You are a treasure.
Scott you have much a pleasant voice, keep doing the vlogs on classic Hollywood.
2:30 Debbie Reynolds Paddle Wheel Hollywood Museum here in Las Vegas is where the most of those liberated items were housed and displayed!
That Thrifty building looks so much nicer than the Rite Aide
I am amazed at the enormous amount of cool info you know and share!!! Awesome!!
So I followed you on Google Maps/ Street View as you walked around and the house at 5:28 (next to dog running circles) is in the same condition, same cars, as in your video. I know creepy. But I like to see where you are going and all. Thanks for the video, keep your head up and keep up the great work. Slowly watching all your videos, old and new!
My first reaction upon seeing the bar name was: "Yikes! That name would never pass in Britain!"
Great video Scott!
Love it, Scott. Got a good giggle in when you were saying bless you to the stranger sneezing in the distance 😂
Yeh, no-one in England does that anymore ,. It was commonplace when I was a kid. I think that's a shame.:))
You have an excellent voice for narration Scott!! Seriously...
Thanks for the trip down huzzy highway 😂I really enjoyed this vlog you have the best story telling voice I could listen to you all day and feel so comforting to .🥰thank you for sharing .
In England 'Pikey' is an insulting term for a Gypsy, as taboo as the N word. Great film.
That was a late night, last minute, Rite Aid, I used to hop in while bar hopping in that area when I was younger.
I'm sorry Scott, I had to laugh!! "GONE... they're still around". LOL!😂😂
I really enjoy these!
I'm big in horror and I love the fact that you were waiting for your vehicle to be serviced and you just walk down the road that I'll never get to see in person.
I love THE walk THRU. PLEASE do ONE every chance YOU can. I LOVE it sooooooo. YOUR channel is wonderfully done. Thank YOU
I saw the donated pair of ruby slippers in person at the Smithsonian in 1994. I remebered them looking fairly dull and worn and not having any elaborate display at the time just in a simple glass case you could walk by and overlook. I know that would not be the case now!
@ASHLEY PAWLICKI-ANDERSEN I saw some more current display photos online and it looks like they have almost a room dedicated to them!
My favorite part....*pause* "Molina."
Dude just got the best laugh I have my I pad plugged in to a car at work and at a4:50 in Scott said whores the volume was up pretty damn loud as I passed this old guy I work with I got the funniest look it was great
I could listen to Scott forever.
My god you are a wealth of knowledge. I could listen to you all day.
Wow things have changed. I used to live on La Brea and Hillside and the neighborhood has surely changed. Great video. I now discovered who Barbara Payton is and now I will research her. She was so pretty!
Hi Scott, love your videos. I love that you're doing videos of all those places in Hollywood where they're tearing everything down and changing it all. It makes me sad I've never had the chance to visit Hollywood and explore but at least I can see what your posting on your channel. I'm grateful that you are able to document much of it. You know so much about old Hollywood you really should have a tv show about your documenting adventures. You are so knowledgeable and have a way of telling the stories, you have the voice for it. Anyway, Thank you for sharing.
the sneeze was funny.."bless you"....good vid as usual
I love what you do Scott. Your a very wonderful man. Stay safe ❤⚘
Still have ARCO and RiteAid in CA...All gone on the East Coast. Another Great Vid Scott, Thank You!!
Good stuff, man. Lots of people won't ever make it out west to see the area and take the tours, so you're doing a tremendous service. Hopefully you can keep it together and get touring again.
You are such an awesome storyteller. I've been binging all of your videos. Love, love, love the ones about Helter Skelter.
Scott I love this type of video. Ur voice is so soothing. Xx
That book about Barbara Payton is quite a read. I didn’t know much about her except for little blurbs In those Hollywood expose books, but man. It’s really well written. I was gripped.
I love these vlogs. Hearing the history is so interesting!!!!
Geez Louise, you go to get your car serviced and give us 17 minutes crammed with tid bits of coolness. You are a walking history lesson & I could listen to you all day. I wish I could give you something on Patreon but we've been hit pretty hard too. It's not much but I sincerely appreciate your efforts. Where else can we go to hear all the fascinating,, funny, sad or sordid, seedy and sometimes gruesome stuff and no one thinks you're a ghoul LOL.
Scott,
Ever since you have started doing videos more often you have slowly crept up to my favorite RUclips Vlogger ever. I really look forward to seeing what you have in store every time you make a video.
Keep them coming!
It's the "bless you" for me 😆Scott you are always polite!
I remember graveline. Took a tour back in 1992. Love it
I've been a fan of yours since your Find-A-death website. I love your content. Thanks for another entertaining video!
Always enjoy your videos. You always know what you’re talking about. Very interesting and informative video. It’s sad that all those special places aren’t around anymore. Great job as always. God bless you
Scott, I have been watching these videos you have been vlogging and they are so informative and interesting! (Me and my husband- Terry Todd, both watch).
You really deserve to have a show on television.
Keep up the good work!
I love the autograph from Divine Brown!!
Omg no traffic? Lol not the la I remember.
Wow Scott, what a great video! I learned so much from this. I had never heard of Barbara Payton before and her story is so tragic. The whole video was so informative.
I haven't seen an Arco gas ⛽️ station in years. From the NY/NJ area.
I was thinking the same thing! I am from NJ.
Not to long ago I watched the movie/series Hollywood on Netflix. When you showed the gas station it made me think about the gas station brothel part. Many thanks for sharing.
edit: PS: been checking out some of your other stuff. Really enjoyed the Rock Hudson interview series. Thanks again.
I live in this part of West Hollywood since I was 14yrs old, on fountain and poinsettia for the past 30yrs.
I’ve watched this part of town become graveyards. All the sites you showed on sunset makes me sad that I can’t go to these stores and bars. The south side of the street you showed on Carson is now new empty buildings.
I wish I knew of your tours. I love Hollywood born and raised in this small town.
scott you're so much fun. my husband and i would spend our weekends driving around los angeles looking at these old houses and haunts. we're both native los angelenos and i love it. thank you!
Hey Scott!!!!!!! Always exciting to see an upload. Still my favorite person on the internet
Nice to see that the older homes have been renovated and not destroyed as seems to be the usual in Los Angeles.
You hit on two of my most obsessed about horror stories! Thank You! Totally geeked out lol
I just loved this. I've loved you Scott since finding Findadeath years ago. I've re-read all of the celebrity deaths there I don't even know how many times. I'm becoming a patreon as soon as I get paid. ❤
Scott, no matter what you are talking about, you make it interesting. You have the most soothing voice, endearing demeanor, and wonderful sense of humor. Listening to you, whether you’re telling another great story or opening packages, is like a (1-way) chat with a very dear friend. Never stop. God bless.
This channel is the BEST!! A city soooo full of history!! I cannot WAIT to come take that helter skelter tour 😫😫. Soon as things open up I'm on the first flight.
Hey Scott! Huge fan here. The boarded-up building with weird ramps @11:37 was, IIRC, a mafia-run club in the very early 90s (I saw a band called "WINK" there, featuring my late pal Brian Keitz and the now-notorious Michael Lockwood. ) It was briefly an A-list spot (?) -Sly Stallone may have been an investor - but was shut immediately after somebody got murdered. May have been detailed in a VF article about Helena's. Keep up the great posts! :))
It was called, "Black 'n Blue"! I'm 99% certain :) God, I'm glad I'm a hermit now :))
I wait for these, Scott....I'm like you, have been to a zillion murder sites...
Barbara Payton's story is so very sad. "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" by John O'Dowd is an excellent book.
Scott's a national treasure.
that was a great vid, thanks Scott
Love this ,I have just finished the Barbara peyton's book and it was a depressing read but really addictive reading ,I really wanted to see where the bar was didn't realise it had changed names and didn't say much about it on Google, so I was really pleased to see the actual bar Barbara drank in things like that sooo fascinate me thankyou ,and can we have some black dahlia content if possible one time, 😃😃😃
You are such a cool guy!! I am from Norcal and am fascinated by old hollywood tales. You bring all this shit alive and well for us fans like you were there from the git go! Watsup!!! Love your work keep it up!✌
I could watch your videos all day!!!
I'm so glad I found you have a channel. I've only watched Six Degrees of Helter Skelter, like a million times.
Love these street walks ! Please do more 👍🏻👍🏻
This was awesome!
I learned about you from watching Jordan the Lion, and I'm happy I did. You are both showing me places that I've only heard about but never thought I would see. You know that city and so many facts about the celebrities like the back of your hand. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from Rhode Island.
Jordon THE Lion is DRAMA. He talks too many poopoo stuff. Notice the b.s. Amy DRAMA YEAH no. He sucks this guy rock's. Jordon always begging subliminally for money too... Notice his crap. Now I am pointing out. He is a begger Vance
Amazing vids as always, Scott!
Thank you for this informative episode
Melanie Mayron, Sally Struthers, Amanda Donahoe, Catherine O'Hara were all within a few blocks when I was there in the 80s and 90s.. cool neighborhood..
I always had a problem (yeah, my problem) with Jamie Lee's pants in Halloween. Thanks Scott for always making my day.
⭐️ Oh my word Scott you have to do more of these vids! This was awesome, I seriously don’t know where you store all this information lol. Well done 👍🏻 x ⭐️
I think Donna Summer was paying tribute to the night people with her song "Sunset People".
In the early 80s, the prostitutes were on Hollywood x Vine. I'm a native, born at the blue Scientology building (used to b Cedars of Lebanon), raised in Los Feliz and went to John Marshall high- so I know my city
Thanks for the tour 🙂
Barbara peyton , never heard of her ,,,So cool with the nightmare on elm street house ,,,,Love jorden and Jah ,,I saw his vlog on dont tell mom the baby sitters dead ,, great video as always ,,stay well scott ,,besafe ,,you are the Man
Nightmare on Elmstreet was the second scariest movie I have ever seen, falling second to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I just love all of this Hollywood history!! You’re amazing, Scott!
Very accurate. Sunset was Hooker Central. Bristol Farms and Rite Aid are good spots to see celebs shop. Orange Grove had Frances Fisher and Clint Eastwood's daughter, Tommy Lee, Topher Grace, in addition to Fred Molina. Tom Welling and Bill Maher lived south of Sunset. That old Blockbuster had Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Joacquin Phoenix, Chaz Bono, Seth Green, Dylan Walsh as customers. Just strolling Sunset I've seen Chris Rock, Jack Black, James Gandolfini, Richard Belzer, Neve Campbell, Rupaul, Jeff Goldblum, Laurence Fishburne, Gene Hackman.
Keep these videos going. Love all your facts!!
Scott, thank you so much!!! I love all your videos and the work you do.
Thanks; this was great!!!
Great video and info. Thanks!
Love that you showed the "horror houses". You said that Winona Ryder frequented the Blockbuster where the bank was. Do you know where she lived at that time? Was it close to there, maybe in the neighborhood beside it? Sorry you are having financial problems, this corona virus has hit a lot of people financially. thank you for providing your videos for RUclips. I enjoy them.
I absolutely love your channel. I'm so glad to have found it! I lived in Hollywood for a decade (and know a lot) but you are just a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for sharing it all! PS I loved The Coach and Horses (I'm sure you know the Tarantino/Roth connection)! Such a coincidence, I was looking for some memorabilia of it just a few days ago (couldn't find anything). My friend lived within walking distance to it so we went all the time. I recall walking drunk along the bank's high wall like a tightrope and my friend thinking that was not the greatest idea lol I bet she never knew about the movie locations right next to her apartment! 🙂 Thanks again for sharing!
No one does it like you, Scott! Been a fan for YEARS! I don’t trust anyone’s info on Hollywood stuff except you (and Jordan!)! Love these videos so much! Thank you!! 🙌🏼👍🏼😊
Absolutely great presentation and I say we'll done. Onward with health, happiness and prosperity. Thank you
When I was in LA I got my prescription filled at that Rite Aid. I had no idea of the History.
Why would anyone dislike your videos, Scott? That's crazy!
These are so fascinating!
Will Fowler writes about Barbara Payton in his book "Reporters" if you can locate a copy of it. GREAT video again!
I grew up in Hollywood Hills but lived in Boston/NYC for years before coming back to CA. I love how Scott shows so perfectly the true Hollywood/BH-it’s not Adam 12, it’s not Melrose Place or Real Housewives...it’s Barbara Payton, Divine Brown, Debbie buying stolen memorabilia in a parking lot. He makes me glad to be back in CA in a way. I exchanged Albert DeSalvo and David Berkowitz for Manson and the Menendez bros. Please keep doing these walks, Scott!
Great video! ❤
