- The Stinger GT really put Kia on the map as a serious car company. Under the hood is a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 that is pumping out 365HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The GT2 is fully optioned and comes with unique exterior touches including 19in wheels and Brembo brakes. On the inside you will find the a level of quality materials and the versatility of the lift back. Is the 2020 Kia Stinger GT2 a BETTER sport sedan than the Genesis G70?

Joe this is one review I've been waiting for !!! The Stinger is an absolute gamechanger!!! Testdrove one and literally every single thought I had of Kia from ten years ago got wiped away!!!! It's a beast when you need it and elegant but not in a showey way when you want it. Standard features that you gotta get in pricey packages in the German competition. Kia please don't cancel the Stinger.
Keep up the great job Joe Lori and Tom!!! 👍❤🚗💨💨💨💨💨💨
Spot on review as always, I have a 2019 GT2 myself. And yes, the centre armrests are a bit hard. A couple of things omitted that people would have been interested in worth mentioning:
The power extendable thigh support on the drivers side seat.
The power sunshade on the moonroof.
The lovely black alcantara interior roof and pillar lining.
The power rear hatch can be changed in settings and be operated manually if you like.
The steering wheel can be set to lift up out of the way when the car is turned off. The seats also can be set to slide back in 2 configurable increments also when the car is turned off.
The rear mirrors can be set to dip downwards when selecting reverse.
The indicator has a quick flash function that can be turned off or set to flash 3, 5 or 7 times.
The ambient lighting on the centre dash and the front doors. Only like 6 colour options but still very nice at night.
The HUD is configurable. You can select different items to display, select size and colour of display. And the 2 driver presets configures the HUD and mirrors.
The really handy automatic rear hatch opening by standing for 3 secs with your key fob in near proximity.
Engine wise, many people won't know that the exhaust valves are filled with sodium, a high end exotic car feature. Apparently, it's the first time that an exhaust valve is hollowed out from both the head and stem and filled with sodium. Normally, it's just the head that is hollowed out.
And the exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head. This allows for a faster warmup. And no one but but a Stinger owner knows that the engine remains warm for an unusually long time after turning the car off. Probably due to that integrated exhaust manifold.
As far as zonks are concerned, I have 4, 2 minor and 2 larger:
1: The complete lack of any centre controller for the infotainment screen.
2: Voice recognition functions not available when a phone is connected to Bluetooth. You can only use voice recognition function when a phone is connected by wire to Apple carplay or Android auto.
3: The suspension in comfort mode is still too firm. I would have the dampers go a lot softer to much better absorb bumps on the road. I would happily trade off some floaty ride for compliance over bumps.
4: Surprising for a performance car, no dedicated manual mode. You can pull the paddles and go manual, but after a while if you don't touch the paddles it defaults back to auto. And if you come to a stop, again it defaults to auto.
After all this, would I recommend the Stinger? Oh my gosh yes!!! If I had my time over I'd buy it again.
Tomy I have a 2018 and I agree with you, I wish it was louder but, it seems like from what has been leaked for the 2021, most of our issues will be fixed.

Really good info - thanks for sharing it!
2018 owner, what did you mean by "The power rear hatch can be changed in settings and be operated manually if you like."
You can just use your key fob for the hatch, or the button on the left side?
Darren Wilson you got the bi-exhaust I take it, lol

Looking at downsizing and was a little skeptical about Kia but wow, I’m really impressed and am now considering one of their sedans. Thanks for these awesome reviews!
I bought a 2019 GT base, and still loving it.
my friends father has this car and he loves it more than anything hes ever owned.
That is so awesome to hear!
Kia is just getting started too.
@I WANT TO PUNCH NANCY PELOSI IN THE FACE HARD! Slowing down? How exactly would you reach that assumption after seeing a car like this??

I love my Stinger GT. Probably the best purchase ever... Most ppl are shocked when they try to race a Stinger and get beat by a KIA.
Bussinyagirl Cheeks - A v8 beats v6 usually genius, But the stinger will shit all over your mustang V6!
This specific model has changed people's view about Korean cars. Very beautiful
You are so very right about that!
I mean can't forget the Telluride made a huge splash too when it came out.
Cypher, here in Australia , the latest Kia Cerato GT ( Forte in the US) also made people stop and take a look at what Kia are doing. I bought one and loved it before trading it in and getting my Stinger. The Cerato GT is a pocket rocket and, like the Stinger, unbeatable value for money considering the performance, standard features, build quality and warranty when all things are considered. Buy any German equivalent and you will be paying a fortune for them.
Not to mention that "Optima" that was the benchmark..still is..
Hyundai genesis sedan did that like 12 years ago lol
It's definitely made for the enthusiast. Sporty, fast and gorgeous. Also the black Pearl trim is definitely underrated. It's so nice I wish more companies would put this instead of ugly chrome or basic silver
I totally agree with you!
I absolutely love this car because you can't find a RWD sport sedan that's affordable and reliable anymore.
Definitely getting the updated 2021-2022 model when it comes out.
What about the sti?
@ @Leonardo Ruiz Vela
The STI and Q50 are way too small for me. I'd go for a Lexus IS F if I were looking for a car of that size.
Hysterical! Pounding that Stinger in residential neighborhoods. I’ve driven the GT2 several times and by the number of the gear changes and watching the tach, we might have been going a “bit” over 35. I’m just spitballing here🚀. 🤓
Just picked up a 19 GT2 yesterday. It’s freaking awesome. 👍👍
Congrats
Hows the rear space ?
Is it like Accord or Camry ?
How’s it running ?? Awd or Rwd? Bet you get tons of looks on that bad boy! 🙌🏼
Ruben Cancino It’s AWD. Runs great. The previous owner installed an aftermarket exhaust system. Needless to say, it’s louder than stock!
Kane Viva La Kane Thanks🙂 Both the Camry and Accord have more rear space than the Stinger. Stinger headroom = 37” legroom = 36.4” / Camry headroom = 37.5” legroom = 38” / Accord headroom = 37.3” legroom = 40.4”
Steve Hyland Actually I have a question on that. Does that aftermarket exhaust give anymore power whatsoever by any chance ? Just curious.
I got stinger GT2 because of your review , I love this car .thank you
Congrats man! Great job! I really appreciate the support!
The Stinger is an awesome car! You can view it as a more upscale exciting alternative to a Camry or Accord, or you can view it as a bargain alternative to an A5/S5. Either way, it's very unique!
I have a 2020 GT1 AWD in pearl white with the red leather interior; she moves when it’s “on throttle” time.
I totally believe it!
Have the exact same car but in red. After a month of ownership, I can say that I love this car. It’s a quick but comfortable ride. It truly lives up to the Grand Touring badge.
William,
I have had mine for about 5 weeks and completely agree with you. Fast, comfortable and head turner. Enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine
Great review Joe! The Stinger truly is a fantastic vehicle. I got the GT2 RWD last year and I absolutely love it. It is a car that I just want to go and drive it. I often look for excuses just to go and drive it.
My biggest zonk for the car was the Kia badges. It isn’t that I don’t like the Kia brand. It is just that the default badges look cheap. I changed all of my badges out for the S. Korean E badges and it looks great now.
This car is so much faster than most people realize. It is so fun to put it in Sport mode and just run the engine through the rpms.
I bought aluminum paddle shifter extensions and those help a lot and look great too.
I think that may have been this car's downfall. Too many kia badges. A lot of people who bought the car debadged it pretty quick. They really should of done like ford with the mustang and gave the stinger unique badging.
@@user-gm4kv2my4u You're right. That's why the Telluride has been such a sales disaster. :)
If you use launch control in Sport mode you can hit that 4.4 0-60 mph time.
I bought one two months ago and I can’t tell you how many people have asked me about it. I have caught people pointing at it and taking pictures. I told my son this the other day and he didn’t believe me. I said let’s go get some gas lol. We pull in and there’s only two customers there. First guy asks me about it while I’m walking out. Second guy actually flags me down as I’m leaving to ask about it. The best part was telling them it’s a Kia and the look on their faces 😂. Then I laughed and told my son, “see two people and two compliments, batting 1000%. He no longer doubts me lol. If you want to drive something different and have a blast doing it, this is the car. My only complaint is Joe’s letting everyone in on the secret 😜.
Love the Stinger. That's the longest test drive I've seen him do 😂. Buy it. You like it.

I love every second of owning my red Stinger GT2 AWD.
Yo, you're wild consistent wit your videos. Your funny, clever, and know your shit. Keep hustling yo, love your uploads!
To anyone considering a Stinger... I highly recommend considering used. 2019s are starting to show up on the used market, and would still be under warranty. Mine would have cost over $54,000 new. I got it for $37,000.
Kia warranties end when the original owner sells the car. They don’t transfer to the used Kia buyer.
paddyballgame That is not correct. The "basic" warranty remains in affect. However, the power train warranty does revert to the remainder of 5 years/60,000 miles. This information is taken directly from the 2019 Kia warranty manual.
Just got a 2020 GT2 with 650 miles for 39,500. And I got all of the factory warranties.
I've had my Stinger (2019 GT1 AWD) a little over a year, and it's been a joy to drive. I would've considered the G70, but I wanted the more usable trunk space (and hatch setup) , and back seat room (to fit two tween kids) which the G70 can't do. I'd love to drive mine and a G70 3.3T back to back to compare someday. Side note: in the year I've had this car, I get asked what it is from random people in all kinds of situations. At stoplights, while I'm parked, while in traffic, gas stations, out and about, and so on. It's crazy how many times I've been asked, and I've been happy to answer. I'm also amused when I tell them it's a KIA. :D
Love the Stinger but I’d pick the G70. The G70 is a little shorter and handles a little better and has nicer interior. Both are great though. Thanks for sharing it Joe. Nice job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Very good points Larry!
The G70 also weighs less, has a faster (variable) steering rack, and the AWD model has a multi-plate rear LSD. The G70 also has 'drift mode'.
That said, while they're very similar, I think the G70 is more of a driver's car than the Stinger. But if you value the practicality of a hatchback and that increased interior space, the Stinger is the way to go between the two.
This is really a great and objective review. You always put out fair and interesting content. Keep up the great work.
Kia has come a long way what a beautiful car 51000 Twinkies
Yes sir!
Worked at a Hyundai and Kia dealership when they introduced these. The 2018s were BEASTLY! I convinced my barber to get one of those over an Audi before I was fired (long story). I loved taking these out for swaps at affiliate dealerships across town, or lunch breaks. Lol. Still shocks the shit out of me that Kia made a car like this.
I got one last week. 9k in discounts!! Nows the time!!
Well done Lenny!

@@Lennyg845 Which motor did you get, was your savings in low interest rate or off the MSRP?
Raiti= Best car reviews anywhere, bar none. This reminds me of the sedan import version of the Charger: Realizing the sedans full potential via a powerful engine and sporty styling cues. Nice ride! As an old girlfriend's dad once told me as we were driving to the beach many years ago: "You can turn on a dime and give nine cents change," nice driving as well man.
Deciding between the genesis and stinger would be a hard choice both cars are pretty rare on the road
I totally agree with you!
Stinger is bigger, roomier and it's suspension is tuned a bit more toward comfort.
The G70 is smaller and less roomy but lighter and with it's suspension tuned a little bit toward sportiness. So it's a bit faster.
The G70 is more luxurious but cost more. You pay for what you get.
So to sumarize:
G70: Faster, nimbler, more luxurious, more expensive.
Stinger: Roomier, more comfortable, is a sportback so more practical and less expensive.
Both share the same hardware and tech spread accross their respective trim level.
Hope that help.
Stinger, for sure
fred Brochu I agree is a tough choice, both cars are great. But you can get a G70 v6 around $45k and that’s MSRP, before discounts and negotiations
I bought a g70 3.3t sport last month, no regrets. Wish i had the space of the Stinger thou but... no regrets.

Kia is preparing F/L stinger end of this year and also it says Stinger will be changed few exterior design and the most impressive features of F/L Stinger are variable exhaust system and new engine 2.5T and 3.5T. These engine are same as new Genesis G80. If you guys want to get Stinger, just wait for as long as a year for that.

I've owned the Stinger since Spring 2018, and people still stop me to ask which company makes it. Kia has to step up the advertising, not talk about killing the Stinger due to low volume sales!
Thanks for sharing that great input from your ownership!
I always had respect for Kia, I'm liking that Stinger GT2 ... Problem is most people don't recognize a $50,000 Kia Stinger ....

An excellent review of this stunning vehicle. Comparing the Stinger to the G70 is like comparing an Audi A4 to the VW Arteon. Same company, VW and Audi, and cosmetic differences on the same platform. Kia and Hyundai are similar.
I am thrilled with my Stinger GT Night Sky edition which we get in Australia. It would have been good to have the AWD version here as well.

Just last week drove the G70 3.3T and then day later the Stinger GT2 3.3 (Limited in Canada). Both are great but bought the Stinger. The Genesis is tight for space especially the trunk and back seat. If you just want performance and nothing else, get the M340i. If you want the more comfortable, more reliable daily car, G70 for sure.
I wouldn’t say it’s better but it absolutely holds its own in both styling, power, and functionality. Overall both cars are great but it really goes down to your own personal bias wether you choose a stinger or g70...
As a stinger owner I love it and my brother has a g70 ... he is switching to a veloster ...
2020 and on is a huge leap in the automotive industry ..

This is definitely NOT the last year for the Stinger, as the refreshed model is coming out in July (scheduled). New engines and new infotainment highlight the updates. However, there is no confirmation for a new model.
This Is gonna be the first car I ever buy!
You will love it Shelton!
You starting big.
Love the looks of the Stinger. I first saw it at an auto show before it became available. I’d heard nothing about it until then, so I was pretty surprised Kia was making such a car. The local dealer has a new one in AWD right now, in red. I only wish they offered this car with a manual.
As for Stinger vs. the Genesis, the Kia definitely has sportier looks, while the Genesis looks like a luxury car. Both have received a lot of praise from reviewers. Personally, however, I’d with with the G70 in the 4-cylinder with 6-speed manual. I don’t need AWD, I love manuals, and I’d want the better fuel economy of the smaller engine.
I love my stinger man so im biased a little
I am prolly gonna get the base but I love the blue! So unique looking and can definitetly attract more attention than a similar german car

Excellent review! Since it's of a comparable size to the G70/Stinger, I would love to hear your opinion on the 2019/2020 Volvo S60 T6 or T8 to see if the trade of sportiness for luxury/comfort can compete in a pretty diverse segment of cars.
