PLEASE NOTE: As some have pointed out, the M in the SONY's Record Settings Menu stands for megabits and not megabytes as stated in the video, My error !
And as there are 8 megabits in 1 Byte, it means that all V90 (UHS-II) cards should be able to cover even the highest record setting of the SONY A6700.
Sometimes we make mistakes.
But thank you all for watching the video!
97% of people who watched this video are not subscribed to the channel, so RUclips are reluctant to show more of my videos. So if you enjoyed this video please consider subscribing. Its shows me that you want more videos and pushes me to make them. Thank you all!
Dont get confused with the Bytes and Bits! Any V90 UHS-II can easily cover the 600 MBits required for the highest capture mode. The number next to the codec is not equivalent to the needed write speed
Thanks
Thanks you so much, that really means a lot to me.
Thanks!
thank you so so much!
Nice review! In the UK, Africa, Australia, most of Asia, and Russia, the frequency of AC running through electrical mains is 50Hz (PAL). However, in North America and a few other countries (Japan uses both), the AC frequency is 60Hz (NTSC). So, if you use NTSC in Europe, you may experience a pretty noticeable flicker from any random light.
Great info. Cheers
Very good point! and one I should have maybe added to the video.
I will add this to an up coming video as its pretty important.
There is nothing worse than the black flicking bars of death ruining your videos.
Super helpful video! What are the requirements/setting to film 4k, 10 bits, 120fps (for slow motion video)?
Thank you for sharing! Was really helpful
Super helpful but simple explanations! Thank you! I will be watching all of your a6700 videos.
Thank you so much for detail instructions how to setup the camera.
massive thank you, this video had all the info i was after!
Thank you, your reviews are great! I have learned so much from them.
Thank you for the info!! I have an issue, I don't know if you know why is happening, I record with my A6700 in XAVAC S 4K 60p, now I imported to Final Cut with a 24p proyect, I'm trying to slow down the speed 40% and the footage looks like jumping, is not smooth, I exported just to see if it was a preview problem, but it still lookin bad, do you know why?
Unfortunately I don't use Final Cut, I use Premier Pro, but I cant see why it would be causing jumping. Does the 60p footage play smooth before trying to slow it down?
Great starting piece for many, but correction for the video modes.
The M stands for “megabits” per second, not “megabytes”.
Technically, the 200MB/S card you showed is theoretically capable of doing the 600mbps the highest quality asks for, but Sony restrict it to UHS-II to ensure a consistent 75MB/s that 600mbps requires.
Conflating the two may mean people think that you’ll consume a 64GB card in 32 seconds, which is definitely not the case.
Correction for myself haha:
64GB card in 128 seconds, not 32
Yes, you are very right! Thank you for explaining everything. I watched this video few hours after ordering A6700 and was frightened that I have to buy SD card for 250$ to record satisfing videos. I knew that this dude was not right :D
Hoping this gets corrected in the video. Definitely had a "huh?" moment when he said that, those are not megabytes.
So far he’s releasing new stuff and not correcting, so me thinks he won’t.
Shame, because his presentation of the interface is fine, but saying that with the megabytes is very dodgy for beginners starting out - it’s a costly mistake that could result in beginners paying hundreds more than needed for nothing.
@@DanCarreras Agreed. If that does happen tho, then some beginners might be future proofing themselves at least lol. Bigger and faster card, for another camera down the line. Hopefully he does correct this one though. But I won't hold my breath to it.
Brilliant! Basically a great 'hand hold' in negotiating the menus, keep it up!
Please what lens do you recommend, for this camera. The goal is to create content and photograph the family.

That's Megabits not MegaBytes in the settings. So a v60 SDXC card can easily record 4k 10 bit 4.2.2 100fps.
Thank you for quick guide
How about recording to an external HD? Any recommendations?
Thanks! My a6700 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Im looking forward to using it. Your video overview was very helpful. Since this will primarily be a family camera its good to know I don't have to use the more expensive V90 cards and can purchase the V60 cards.
Glad it was helpful!
you bought it ? amazing, imo the best apsc camera on market ! overall.
Yes 100%
What setting is the best for color grading?
Excellent.
Hi from Spain, i have seen on the App that you can actualize the cámara throw the App. It is possible or must be done with a sd card? Thks
180mb 1080p 10bit have a good quality, i recorded 10bit 50m and its amazing in lowlight, do you advice chante to 180mb?
Lifesaver 😊❤
Nice video. Additionally there was an error regarding read und write speeds. The number stated on the card is the reading speed, not the writing speed. Greetings from germany
Thanks so much for this tutorial, it's perfectly explained. I've just purchased this camera today and this was perfect to get me started. One question, is there much of a difference in quality between XAVC HS 4K and XAVC X-I 4K. I'm hoping my imac will be able to handle 10 bit video files. I might also have to upgrade to the paid version of Davinci Resolve. Love your content as always.
Hi Bill how is it going!
To my eye there is very little difference. I am sure there is some difference, but to me HS4k and S4k is more than enough. Make sure you check out the S-Cinetone Picture Profile, it is awesome! (PP11)
@@TheCameraManReviews Thanks, I'm doing good thank you, hope all is well with you. I'm getting worried as I've just seen the file size of a 10 bit video compared to 8 bit on my old A6600, it's huge at 1.54 gig for a 58 min clip. It's also having trouble writing to my sd card which is only 190 mps write speed. I hope I havent made a big mistake. How do your 10 bit vids compare to your old 8 bit vids? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. 😟
@@WilliamHenryAlbert Hi Bill, what fps and settings you using?
@@TheCameraManReviews I used the XAVC HS 4K at 50 fps. Record settings were 200M 4:2:2 10 bit. A 58 second clip was 1.54 gb!
I'm thinking that maybe I should use the 100M 4:2:2 10 bit settings. I think that would make a difference. Sorry to be such a pain.
Megabits are a unit of data transfer and megabytes are a unit of digital storage space. Just thought I'd clear that up.
The data rates for the video codecs are in megabits per second, not megabytes per second.
sheeesh thank uuuuuuuu :)
I thought this camera did 240fps at 1080? mine like yours only goes up to 120fps, is there a secret menu to unlock 240fps?
Was hoping to find what settings to use to get the best shoot, but there was hardly information required.
I’m running into the issue where I can’t open video files from the sd card on my computer (tried both a Mac and a pc). The files show up in mp4 format in the M4ROOT>CLIP folder but just shows a black screen when I try to play the file. Does anyone know if this has to do with the video settings or is there an app I should download to open these videos?
I want to know the lens model?
Sigma 56mm f1.4
Wouser, indeed! Still, I'll get one V90 card just for the experience of having to see for myself if the large files are worth the trouble for the highest quality the camera can produce.
Isn't the 200M, 100M, etc... MegaBits per second, as in mbps, not MB/s or megaBytes per second?
So a "300 mb/s write speed of UHS II" is enough to handle 500 mb/s the highest 4k mode you showed? If not why would they put that mode if the sd cards wouldn't be able to handle it.
There’s a problem with my Shutter display on my A6700. It displays 48.0 and not fractions! Help!!!
You have change it to display shutter angle. I cant think off the top of my head how to change it back as I am not at my camera at the moment. I would say do a factory reset if you cannot find the setting.
There is a big difference between MegaBytes and Megabits, so any V90 card is enough
Is anyone else running into the same issue as me. When you import to an iOS device (iPad) you are unable to see the photos. It’s just a blank grey screen, jpegs showed up fine but RAWS didn’t.
I’m having the same problem
It’s killing me
I think iPad can't read the raw file format.
As others have pointed out, please get your information straight. If you record a 12 minute video just about the photo and video settings of this camera, it is insane that you don’t know the difference about Megabit and Megabyte. Megabits are only 1/8 of Megabytes. So for example the 200M (MegaBIT) setting means that the camera writes only 25 MegaBYTES to the card. Based off that wrong information all your statements and recommendations about the cards are wrong as well. Even though it is very honorable that you made a video about this, I would honestly recommend taking it down as it might lead people to buy super overpriced cards or shoot in HD to avoid the „crazy high data rates“.
is a v60 capable of 4k 120?
or even S-I 4K 120?
