In fairness, Toyota and Subaru proved that handily. The 86 sold far more manual than auto and cheaper than a Z (in either era). It quickly became a generic staple of the enthusiast scene, it’s a huge success. Nissan is mostly continuing to do what they’ve always done. Make small improvements on their basic platform and deliver a driver’s car that performs well. It’s a pretty steady progression. And despite the lack of fanfare they’ve been one of the best in this area for a long time.

The price bump for the trim levels seems heavy considering what you get. The only real performance upgrade that you would not replace anyway is the rear diff. MAYBE the brakes if you don't track much but I would expect folks who are tracking more than a couple times a year would probably do larger brakes than anything available anyway. 10k goes pretty far in the aftermarket if you are a DIY enthusiast. It's almost like they talked to the HPDE guys and they said "All we need the big motor, and a manual trans, and that diff you guys use sucks" during some early design group session. Then they changed to a clutch type LSD without re-visiting that decision.

With Nissan in financial straights thanks to the previous scandal with their former CEO, we're lucky we even get a new Z, let alone one that's this competent. No one should be complaining about the lack of a differential. The Z is a platform that was designed with the anticipation that future owners will upgrade/customize the car to their liking. With a simple flash tune, this car can already beat a stock Supra. While the Toyota has better specs from the factory, (given most owners are likely to modify either car), it's really up to the way each individual builds out their car, and being that the Z is 100% manufactured/designed by Nissan, they do get more street cred with their target audience for making the car completely on their own. I love everything I've heard about this car so far; a big enough engine with twin turbo; your choice of transmissions; RWD. Its fast and capable and has the right architecture to be anything you wish it to be. So its a tuner's dream to go as wild as they want, or just leave it stock with maybe just a remap and watch it get even better. You've seen what Motive Way has already done, and AMS has got this car doing mid 10s on the 1/4 mile with just mild bolt-on parts and and a remap. So why do people keep comparing this car to a GR86 or BRZ when they are not even in the same category? Not even close.

Thank you for not saying so many bad things about a car. There are good qualities too about the z. Depends on your usability and what you're using it for but like you said for AG. T car, some people don't need a lot of horsepower for everyday driving car. It's practical if it was someone to get a 1000 horsepower, that's the wrong car. All depends on what you're using it for and in reality, we don't all live in a freaking desert where nobody lives and it's easy to drive, but again, sensibility, where everyone could drive and nowadays. Unfortunately, the dollar doesn't go the way it used to. But AG t car is what it is and that's what we want, some of us do. I'm always a big fan. Yes, they have the mixture of old and new, but that's not always a bad thing too. It's a good car, but there's other websites out there. Sometimes they just bash everything and say negative things, everything has a prone to con it all depends on what you're looking for but I think this guy is knowledgeable. Matt about his cars. Some people have RUclips channels that just read 2 cards. All depends, so does Jay Leno, he thinks it's a good car that's someone I could respect he's a mechanic, an engineer by trade. Thanks for the information I like to get one. Yes, I could drive a stick, but sometimes, you may not always want to be in the mood to drive a stick, some people are lazy not saying that's bad thing, but sometimes getting old by driving a stick in the city is not. It was a good thing, but all depends on your preference and looking down to people just 'cause they don't want driver steak. Is dumb but 6 are good things for cars all depends on your use.

    Open deck Vr30 < B58
Merc 9 speed < ZF8 (will be same with manual versions)
Nissan suspension tuning < Toyota suspension tuning
Nissan interior < bmw interior (determining factors being quality of materials used and overall ergonomics of the design)
I love that there’s other companies out here still making manual sports cars but Nissan completely missed the mark in my opinion.

I've owned 4 Z-cars, including a 2015 370z Sport 6MT. My only complaints about that car were 1) Lack of telescoping steering wheel and 2) Crappy stock seats. It looks like the "new" Z addresses those concerns, plus adds power and technology.
Here are my issues with this car:
This is a parts bin car. It's clearly a tweaked 370z with an engine swap to a powerplant Nissan/Infiniti has already made for several years. That would be fine, except that in order to get one with an LSD and Akebono brakes (carried over from the 370z), you pay $50k+, and that's not even including inevitable dealer mark-ups. For comparison- Less than 3 years ago, you could buy a brand new 370z Sport (LSD, Akebono brakes, 19 inch Rays wheels) for under $35k. Nissan has essentially raised the price of the equivalent "new" Z by $15k+ over the 370z, without building a new chassis. That's not good for consumers. They've priced this to compete with the Supra, disregarding the incredible value proposition this car could have been.
If we look at the base model, it's still $40k+. That might not seem bad, but it's still $10k more than what you could buy a base 370z for less than 3 years ago. It's also more than you can currently pay for a base Mustang GT or Camaro LT1. Even in the current inflated market, those cars are selling for under $40k in many parts of the country. You could buy a brand new 7th Gen Corvette for under $55k 2 or 3 years ago. As much as a love the Z, that's a better sports car. Even now there are used, low-mileage C7s out there for well under $50k.
I think this Z34.5 would be a home run if the base model started at $35k, and the performance trim topped out at $42-43k. I just don't think we're getting enough "new" sports car for the price.

    • @SylasG
      @SylasG 2 года назад

You didn’t have an issue buying the 370z when it was a tweaked 350z as well?
The 370z has a viscous lsd, the new Z has a clutch type, it is not carryover.
You’re forgetting to account for inflation too..

Nice this was the video I was waiting for. Seems like a good value here and I bet that engine has some real potential for power with aftermarket upgrades. I think I like the rear of this car a bit more than I like the front, but overall it looks pretty good.

Just casually compares it to a Porsche 😋 The Camaro is a bit old? Put that Z on a road course and it will fall flat on its face. Center of gravity is still way too high and wheel base too short. Weight distribution and just weight to power isn't even in the same league as other cars. That hard plastic center console looks like fisher price in a 50k car?? Door style is like from 2003. No heads up display. Yeah go ahead and dismiss as SS or a 1LE. It's overpriced and you are gonna need alot of nismo stabilizers and suspension work to even hope to compete with a Porsche. What Kool aid did you drink on that day😂

I have to say the review feels way too lenient. Matt claims to address the Supra by pointing us to his article but it's only mentioned once how it's a BMW and there is no comparison. Let's just look at the fact that for being literally the same price for a similar spec (LSD etc) you're getting less performance than the Supra. I know this part is out of his control but I don't feel like we get to see the car at the limit in any of the journalist desert driving vids. With the Supra we got to see plenty of oversteer on a tight & technical track at Summit Point VA. I'm not a BMW Supra fan boy and I'm happy the Z is real but I can't help but feel nobody wants to be real honest with this car.

The Camaro SS is still the most insane value in sports cars in the world. Add a 1le package for $7k and it's game over. I can't do this Z while the Camaro exists, even if it only has one model year left, ever. Not to mention, this is probably the end of roaring American V8's.

The cheapest ADM (additional dealer mark-up) I could find was an extra $2200 and up dealers planned on additionally charging for the car. Wonder if Nissan knows about this....I just can't bring myself to pay an additional $2200 for window tint, fabric & paint protection. I'll just keep driving my 2022 BRZ.....
