Your videos keep getting better and better. I love the addition of the radio chatter as part of the narration. As usual, the camera and drone work is top notch. I've watched a ton of overlanding videos and channels lately and your channel is definitely at the top of the pack.
Cody, It was such a privelage to experience the backcountry with you and to meet "White Dog Overland" in person. Justine and I look forward to our next adventure with you.
You have become the master of the drone. Pro level footage because you actually convey the granduer of the landscape and the terrain which you capture with your drone.
Thank you so much. If you can portray the expanse of the scenery with the drone, you can master it wouldn’t say it’s too challenging with the right one!
... haven't finished watching the video but had to write. Beautiful work once again! The San Juan mountains, Platoro, Chama; certainly some of my most favorite places on earth. Thank you, young man. Thank you for "taking us with you to the high country".
My friend sent me here to this page some months ago. I camped my whole life and I spent 30 years in the Army and swore I was done with sleeping under the stars but your trips have motived me to jump into this type of camping. I have an old Bronco and a blazer and building them up for this type of stress on my vehicles. Thanks bro.
Thank you for joining the channel brother, all I want to do here is motivate my fellow man to get out in this short time we have. Your old rigs would appreciate getting out and stretching the legs!
Once again, that was epic! Can't wait for part 2! I'm a vet who's lived in AZ for 16 years. Have always loved the outdoors since I was a kid. But your videos have opened my mind up to so much possibility. Because of you, I have a much better perspective and knowledge about AZ and NM than I ever thought possible. Sorry for the lengthy post but wanted you to know how much I've learned and appreciated your videos!
Another great installment. We "discovered" northern New Mexico last summer while transiting to the San Juans from Texas for a family gathering near Ouray. You are so right - the area around Chama is such an un-tapped delight!!
Thank you! The area is a hidden treasure and hopefully it’ll stay this way even after I put the videos out! Seems like most stay over on the Taos side rather than venturing over to the west!
This series is even just as good watching it for the second time around. Your footage just keeps getting better and better each trip you do, and I think you timed this trip just perfect. Well done son you are amazing and always have been. Contributing your donations of this video to the victims and recovery of that insane hurricane is what I would expect from you with your kindness and gentle heart that you were born with. Keep up the great work! Love you, your Pa!!
I've been looking at this area of Colorado/New Mexico for a while now on Google maps and am happy to see you showing me what I expected all along. Going to plan a trip there for this summer.
Dear Cody, what a fantastic adventure until now! Thank you for sharing all this with us! Your dog is a legend! Stay safe and all the best from Switzerland
I did this a week ago (Monday). Dry as a bone. I didn’t even do any research on the trail and was surprised how rough but fun it was. The ledge I saw rubber over on the left side so I went up on the right. I also did the mud hole with the log as I wasn’t sure about the tilted bypass on the left. South San Juan’s are pretty crowded with ATV’s during the summer but this time of year it was totally uncrowded. I spent the night on the summit of Summit Peak back over Memorial Day of 2000. Hiked Conejos twice, last time in August of this year. Got into a nasty lightning storm. Some of the roads were washing out as we drove off. Glad I found your channel.
Welcome! That trail was incredible, just the right amount of technicality to make it fun and not too hard on the rigs so far from home. And it was crazy how empty the area was! That’s why I hit it that time of year and avoid the summer time!
Thats why I cant wait for your next video you always deliver the goods! looks like you timed it just right for catching the trees in their color. Its one of the things that make me really miss my home state of Pa. But were right about Tucson, it was blistering hot until friday and fall showed up in one day. I am heading out for some outdoor fun the first week on Nov for a Mule deer hunt. I cant wait I need to unplug. Thanks again
Thank you, but for me its never about harvesting an animal but more about the experience. I have had way more unsuccessful hunts than successful ones, its about the experience and the memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. Its like when I take my kids camping they just start picking up any trash they see not even our trash. I never told them to do it or even suggested it was the right thing to do somehow they just new it, was the right thing to do.
Great video! We were able to detour down to Salida, Antonito, Chama, and then Durango on our way out to CA from IL to run the Rubicon a couple weeks ago… and the color change in the Rio Grande NF area were the most stunning of the entire road trip! This video makes me wish I’d given myself a few extra days there.
Thank you! That’s a hell of a journey but well worth it for everything you saw along the way. You could spend an entire month just in the area I was alone!
Great video. I was down in Platoro a couple weeks ago. Was quite the drive for an overnight trip. Sweet area and was nice to put some miles on the F250 and actually get out.
Man, AWESOME scenery. We're finally cooling down here in Tucson. Just got back last weekend from NM near Silver City. Awesome place, looking forward to part 2.

Excellent Video, we just did Elwood Pass last weekend, my 2011 Nissan Titan did great, love seeing other full size trucks out on the trail. We own land in the Conejos valley south of Platoro, had never done the pass until now. Colors were still hanging in there. Great filming and narration! Happy trails, guys! (also, the mountain and lake you were looking at leaving camp the first day are Lookout Mountain and Lake Anella/Lake De Nolda. Platoro is the huge reservoir to the south of Forest rd 250 where you meet the Alamosa river junction)
It’s hard to go wrong with any of those areas out there I was blown away along every road. Too much too see in such a short time but I’ll have to go back. Thanks for watching!
The scenery was spectacular. Perfect timing for the colors! We went on the Chama train and saw some beautiful areas but what was sad was the beetles that have and are destroying the trees. Looking forward to the 2nd half of your trip!!

Excellent drone work. I'm glad you got to see the Aurora Borealis aka the Northern Lights, they're not visible this far South very often. The Enchanted Circle, Southeast of where the video is, got 6 to 8 inches of snow yesterday.

I enjoy your videos but I’m not so sure I agree with your perspective on history. Sure, all this is beautiful but you say you like to touch on history. Creating roads while battling Mother Nature and, I quote, “natives sought to stop your western movements?” Our country was stolen from a great civilization with functioning governments, autonomous nations, and a population that lived in sync with its environment. This land was stolen, taken, from those you refer to as “natives.” What would you do if a foreign power came here and started to take our lands, where we grew up, where we lived, would you not also try to defend yourself, your family, your home? I wouldn’t raise any of this if you didn’t begin by talking about “touching on history” and what “this country is built upon.” Come on man, this is some whitewashing of history. Not sure this is “discovering history,” I’d suggest just maybe stick to the overlanding and routes, and leave the history lessons to those that represent the truth honestly. We all can love these backcountry spaces, I know I do, but enjoying our wild lands doesn’t require us to be ignorant of history and objective truth.
