This is kinda false. Drake and Kendrick have been sneak dissing each other for years. Once the actual beef started with "Like That" it was still a competitive thing. Drake replied by involving Kendricks fiance and saying she's an adulterer. Kendrick replied by questioning Drake's parenting. Drake replied by calling Kendrick a wife beater and claiming his wife cheated with a second man and bore his child. That's when Kendrick started calling Drake a sex offender. It's interesting how people are rearranging the order to make Kendrick out to be the first mudslinger.
Some people just don't know or remember how far it goes back (at least since 2013). It just went from Cold War to an actual war in a matter of weeks.

All this was in response to a scathing 20 minute disrespectful session with drake on a taped ESPN show, and I'm guessing somehow Kendrick got word of it and maybe even saw the recording before it got deleted and it was on and popping since then

Long comment: This really feels like a blast that shook the whole industry. Kendrick took of the gloves and said he was tired of Drake and everything he represented. A admittedly talented artist who successfully vultured black culture globally to line his pockets, a man who seemed too big to fail even though people knew he blackwashed his personal history in front of everyone over time, and a man who grew too cocky and started moving like a fake mob boss. Kdot is so immensely talented, so true to himself, and has built his credibility from the ground up that he was able to(in just a week) dismantle Drake. Snatch his crown and every chain he flaunted, and he never had to lay a finger on him. It feels like he did this on behalf of hiphop. The origin of the beef is not accurate... Kendrick disliked drake long before first person shooter. Kendrick and Drake are the exact opposite of each other. I feel like Hollywood also likes to tokenize specific creators and marginalized groups, and make them the embodiment of everyone in that group.
We've seen this with various black comedians like Eddie murphy, more recently we've seen it with Latinos like Pedro Pascal or lin-manuel Miranda, and for Asians it's Aquafina.
And then when people sort of get burnt out on their isms they'll always run back to how nobody wants to support diverse films as an excuse.
