  • As I wanna to extend carving to the base and change color, I didn't do good enough prep work so the blue color did NOT stick to orange properly, so you'll see what happens then😉...
Work, make mistakes, learn and grow to be better every day.
    Enjoy

Thank you for being part of the 4 way. I’ve watched everyone. Thank you for messing up and sharing that everyone does, showing not to freak out, and options to fix. Thanks afain

well saved. We all learn more from our mistakes than our successes. Love the final version.

A carved, painted decorative finish draws attention to the finish. This second revision draws its beauty from both the form and the wood itself. Neither is the "correct" way of making the project. Still, I'm glad you showed us it's OK to alter your design in the middle of the project. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you,I completely agree.... and there is nothing wrong to change design multiple times on project as that is normal work flow....😀 thank you for watching

It’s so nice to know I’m not the only one who has problems. Sometimes at the end of the day all I have are sawdust and kindling wood for the fire.

as an apprentice years ago I was told by one of the tradesman I worked under that those who have never made mistakes have never done anything. Look at them as creative opportunities if you can and get on with it. We are all human. Thankyou for showing us how you recovered the piece, and quite frankly I like the natural wood better than the painted version.

The box with orange was pretty nice. But, this version with plain walnut is BEAUTIFUL! I love the continual curve from top to bottom. Adding the second bead was brilliant. Much improved. Thank you for sharing it.

Привет, Томислав! Прекрасная работа! Этот вариант-супер! Видна вся природная красота. А с краской лучше, конечно, с оранджем. Спасибо за работу. Удачи тебе.

The Master knows how to fix his mistakes! Much better look in my opinion. I think your demonstration of jam chucking is an important take a way for novice turners. Important to always keep those inside walls parallel at the opening.

    Tomislav,
Excellent recovery - you can't improve on what mother nature produces. Color can be a distraction at times to what is otherwise a solid design.
Thanks for your videos and inspiration,
    Rich

It is fascinating to gain insight into someone's creative process. What tells us that something doesn't quite please us is a subtle mystery, but, nonetheless, it's very real. Sometimes we must immediately take action; other times it must sit and fester for a while before our intuition guides us toward a solution. Thank you for sharing the insight into your creative process. That is a most valuable lesson.

I love the new version! The good news is that it's a one of a kind and you don't have to alter a set! I have changed designs many times because what was before me didn't look as good as it did in my mind! Some of mine were changed so often that they ended up in the wood stove! Again, I really like your finished version!

  • @johnmarkelewicz5495
    @johnmarkelewicz5495 Год назад +1

Much, much better on the second version. Even though it's nice to experiment with colors, you still can't go wrong with just the triditional oil and wax finish, especially on that walnut! The first version would have been nice too with just the carvings and just the oil and wax finish. But all in all, great recovery! 👍

It's always a little frustrating to have something go wrong during the last moments of finishing. But it also adds to knowledge. Here you are helping others too. The finished piece looks just like it was meant to be that way. Nice design elements.

I really like this version of the box. The walnut makes this very elegant. Very nice. The first version was OK, but this one is really stands out and the way the curve follows the whole piece is just awesome. Are you going to make the decreasing size set a set of nesting boxes?

The walnut heartwood/sapwood contrast looks best in this version, to my eye.
The textured and colored approach is interesting. I wonder if you could keep the top and bottom distinction but unify a piece with an inverse coloring scheme. By this I mean carve, paint, sand as you originally did the top. But on the bottom you could sand, paint, then carve to have the same texture but opposite coloring scheme on the two parts

A perfect "save". Much nicer than the original in my opinion. When it comes to colouring a piece I much prefer to use stains rather than paint, either Chestnut Products Spirit Stains or Hampshire Sheen Intrinsic Colours. Both can be used to create great effects.
