- As I wanna to extend carving to the base and change color, I didn't do good enough prep work so the blue color did NOT stick to orange properly, so you'll see what happens then😉...
Work, make mistakes, learn and grow to be better every day.
Enjoy

🕶very nice Tomislav. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steven for watching 😀
Big improvement! Very elegant and pleasing to the eye. Thanks for sharing so much with us!
No problem, thank you for watching
Thank you for being part of the 4 way. I’ve watched everyone. Thank you for messing up and sharing that everyone does, showing not to freak out, and options to fix. Thanks afain
Thank you for watching us 4 and support what we do
well saved. We all learn more from our mistakes than our successes. Love the final version.
Indeed🤗
A carved, painted decorative finish draws attention to the finish. This second revision draws its beauty from both the form and the wood itself. Neither is the "correct" way of making the project. Still, I'm glad you showed us it's OK to alter your design in the middle of the project. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you,I completely agree.... and there is nothing wrong to change design multiple times on project as that is normal work flow....😀 thank you for watching
It’s so nice to know I’m not the only one who has problems. Sometimes at the end of the day all I have are sawdust and kindling wood for the fire.
We all have those kind of days, we are humans and its ok to make mistakes....I have learn more on mistakes then when something goes ok 😄
Much prefer the natural wood and to let the wood speak for itself! Great video as always!
Thank you very much 😀
as an apprentice years ago I was told by one of the tradesman I worked under that those who have never made mistakes have never done anything. Look at them as creative opportunities if you can and get on with it. We are all human. Thankyou for showing us how you recovered the piece, and quite frankly I like the natural wood better than the painted version.
The box with orange was pretty nice. But, this version with plain walnut is BEAUTIFUL! I love the continual curve from top to bottom. Adding the second bead was brilliant. Much improved. Thank you for sharing it.
Glad you like it 😀 I do like it a lot but miss a color😂 thank you for watching
I think I like this new version of the four ways box even better. Well done Tomislav.
Glad to hear it.... thank You for watching
Привет, Томислав! Прекрасная работа! Этот вариант-супер! Видна вся природная красота. А с краской лучше, конечно, с оранджем. Спасибо за работу. Удачи тебе.
Thank You 👍
The Master knows how to fix his mistakes! Much better look in my opinion. I think your demonstration of jam chucking is an important take a way for novice turners. Important to always keep those inside walls parallel at the opening.
Thanks Mike🤗
Tomislav,
Excellent recovery - you can't improve on what mother nature produces. Color can be a distraction at times to what is otherwise a solid design.
Thanks for your videos and inspiration,
Rich
Thank you Rich, glad you liked it ☺️
The change is very nice! Beautiful piece of walnut!
Take care, Dave
Thank you Mr.Dave...😀
It is fascinating to gain insight into someone's creative process. What tells us that something doesn't quite please us is a subtle mystery, but, nonetheless, it's very real. Sometimes we must immediately take action; other times it must sit and fester for a while before our intuition guides us toward a solution. Thank you for sharing the insight into your creative process. That is a most valuable lesson.
Thank you Sir very much, glad to help out ☺️
I love the new version! The good news is that it's a one of a kind and you don't have to alter a set! I have changed designs many times because what was before me didn't look as good as it did in my mind! Some of mine were changed so often that they ended up in the wood stove! Again, I really like your finished version!
Thank you Richard 😀
Much, much better on the second version. Even though it's nice to experiment with colors, you still can't go wrong with just the triditional oil and wax finish, especially on that walnut! The first version would have been nice too with just the carvings and just the oil and wax finish. But all in all, great recovery! 👍
Thank you sir, glad you liked it
Now your talkin! I like your original concept however the decision to rethink in itself is very informative . Thank you for posting this demonstration/ lesson.
Thank You for watching 😀 glad to help out/inspire
It's always a little frustrating to have something go wrong during the last moments of finishing. But it also adds to knowledge. Here you are helping others too. The finished piece looks just like it was meant to be that way. Nice design elements.
Thank you, I agree .... thanks for watching
I really like the new version of your box , walnut always looks good by itself .
Indeed it does😀
The natural walnut box is beautiful.
Its charming 🤗
I really like this version of the box. The walnut makes this very elegant. Very nice. The first version was OK, but this one is really stands out and the way the curve follows the whole piece is just awesome. Are you going to make the decreasing size set a set of nesting boxes?
Thank you sir,.... not sure yet... perhaps I will, just to make it more difficult 😂
Very nice. Looks much better as natural wood.
It sort of does but I do miss a bit of color😂
I really like the new version. However, don't give up on your creative ideas. You always come up with new and inventive things that make us think. Also, thank you for sharing the recovery and going over the issues you had along the way. Thank you!
No worries, I never give up, and I see these as building blocks of expirience....
Thank you for kind words 🤗
Well, I didn't mind the orange, but I enjoyed watching you rework it and agree this is stronger.
Thanks Jay, I do miss the color 😂
I do prefer this version. The wood is just amazing !
Thank you, glad you liked it 🤗
That was an absolutely great video! You really hit a home run with this video!!
Thank you 😀
The walnut heartwood/sapwood contrast looks best in this version, to my eye.
The textured and colored approach is interesting. I wonder if you could keep the top and bottom distinction but unify a piece with an inverse coloring scheme. By this I mean carve, paint, sand as you originally did the top. But on the bottom you could sand, paint, then carve to have the same texture but opposite coloring scheme on the two parts
Interesting concept, I might do something about that 🤗
Thank you for suggestion and watching
It became a work of art. You did a great work 👍👍
Glad you like it, thank you
All's well that ends well. Awesome box and awesome job as usual sir..
Thank you sir 🤗
Looks great natural, lovely job
Thank you
Beautiful end result! I noticed that you used a skew on the bottom rather than one of your scrapers. Was that because of shape or some othe reason? Thanks for all the knowledge that you share with your viewers.
Glad to help out as much as I can 😀 I grabed skew just for the shape of it... for the point
I liked the version with the orange paint, the blue just didn't go with the walnut at all. Much prefer the finished natural wood at the end. A nice recovery from something you were not happy with.
Thank you,I do miss color😅 thank you for watching
Please leave it like it is! I love the walnut.
Its staying like this, I'm not touching it anymore 😂
Thanks for the video. A solvent can be used to remove the paint. A very beautiful box. With your permission, I will repeat the same one, only made of stained oak.
Go for it, try it.👍
Beautiful!!!
Thanks 😀
Much prettier! Love it
Thank you 😀
As Michael Hosaluk taught me. You don't make a mistake, you have created a design opportunity
I like that a lot, I'll borrow it for sure😉 thank you for watching
I like the plain walnut better . It’s just beautiful the natural walnut.
The original texturing was ok but not the orange. Thanks for sharing this fix up .
Glad you like it 😀 Thank you very much for watching
Such a great learning experience taking us through the transformation of this piece! I wonder what a black finial and beads would look like?
Interesting idea, that is possibility as well😉 thank you for watching
😂as much as I liked the original, this looks much better. Thanks
Thank you, glad you liked it
A perfect "save". Much nicer than the original in my opinion. When it comes to colouring a piece I much prefer to use stains rather than paint, either Chestnut Products Spirit Stains or Hampshire Sheen Intrinsic Colours. Both can be used to create great effects.
I have used a lot of stains in my woodworking carrer, not much of a fan of stain on plain wood like walnut,on figured maple it can look quite unique.... thank You for watching 🤗
Please don't consider it a mistake / failure. You had enough 'Meat' to be able to make the changes. I agree with the below. I prefer the Second version. Such a beautiful form and natural wood colours.
Thank you, I rarely think of bad stuff on the lathe as a failure, but I needed some interesting title for the video 😉
I didn't mind the orange but I think the final result is much better.
Thanks Richard, I do miss color, but that will be for another boxes 😀
That's much better!
I do miss color😄
Much nicer without the colour.
Glad you like it 😀
Design opportunity.
Indeed it is😉
I suspect we all have turned some turkeys. I know I have!
Oooo yes indeed😅
Like the newer version better. The wood speaks for itself; hard to improve on Mother Nature
Indeed , but there will be opportunity again for the color😀
I like it better with no paint.
Glad to hear that ☺️
I understand that everyone has different tastes, but I greatly disliked version 1. Version 2 looks beautiful to me.
We all have different taste and that is whats is good about it..... On this piece it did turn out better.
