You should have gone into the "military style" pullover/sweater Merlin wears. Those with enforcement patches on the shoulders, usually available in navy blue or olive green. (And the Hogwarts tie!)
Preston, I must say this: your tie knot and shirt collar combination in this video has just become my new visual reference for tailored shirts. My face shape is somewhere between oval and oblong and the cutaway collar flatters me the most, but it’s so hard to get its details right (angle and lenghtwise). Just took some prints and that’s what I’ll show my guy. Thank you SO much!
Leathers and metals matching is mostly an American thing. Everything needs to be matchy matchy. I noticed that men over here in Europe, including myself, are less concerned with matching leathers and metals.
I enjoyed this video. Although I know I should always wear my oxfords with my suits, I have purposely broken the rules with somewhat regularity by wearing black or oxblood colored wingtips. And not the sleek Italian style but rather the traditional "long wing" style. Again, great video. Thank you.
MR. Preston, as always you have done this video with style, class, and you keep my attention. Normally i only watch some you tube videos for a couple of minutes, however your videos grab my attention and I tend to watch the full length.
I do believe it means oxford shoes, no broguing. I have yet to see any of them wear brogued oxfords in the film. English language is one that not many people can grasp much sense of easily..
Well done this is one of my favourite videos that you gentlemen have made. I am a huge lover of suits and men style in general I have shown your channel to my husband.
I actually saw on the cover of a new journal that’s being sold for the film “The King’s Man” that it now reads “Oxfords, not Rogues.” I’m wondering if it’s going to be changed into a statement of loyalty that has morphed over time.
Colin Firth wearing the same glasses as Michael Caine was a nice touch. It pretty much pays the homage to old garde and makes me happy to see old man in action again.
Wide (Structured) lapels on those suits are so underrated. Don't get me wrong it can definitely go too far like the suits made in the 70s to 80s if they're not tailored properly.
Preston, I like what you had to say about this film striking an appreciative tone regarding menswear. I can't think of a film that was more "right up the alley" than Kingsmen, except for perhaps Last Tango in Paris. I can also see a touch of Pygmalion in it. Outside of the menswear, it's a good example of the quality of film being churned out in recent years.
Harry does not say brouges are mutually exclusive to oxfords. Eggsy is the one saying "Oxfords not brouges" trying to impress Harry with a silly one-liner. Keep in mind Eggsy is a style novice at this time of the movie. Harry then proceeds to say "words to live by" because a gentleman would not correct a novice by saying "actually brouges can be oxfords" in that scenario. Even the Gentlemen Gazette talk about this scenario in how to take a complement video. If someone ses "nice suit!" even though you wear a sport coat with odd trousers it's not nice to say "I don't wear a suit...".

Eggsy said that one-liner because it was the code Harry gave his mother for him to use if he ever needed anything
I’ve been Traditional WetShaving 💈😁✌🏻💈 for 2 years now and just picked up Fountain Pens 🖋 I have 2 so far and they are very fun to write with. I want to start to dress more like a gentleman. I like the dress shirt 👔 suspenders, casual dress shoes 👞 type look. But I will say I know absolutely nothing when it comes to formal men’s wear and fashion. But when it comes to street wear I’m your man lol. But this channel has given me a lot of helpful information
In the German overdub, they still make the mistake of talking about open lacing in oxfords, however they translated „oxfords not brogues“ to „Oxfords nicht Buderpester“ which means Oxfords not bluchers
I want to see you guys dress down for a video for fun. Like what would you wear if you couldn’t wear classic men’s wear? Or would you guys melt if you put on faded selvedge denim, red wings and an old flannel? I kid of course. Keep up the great work!
I would love to see an agent movie where the clothes are picked by Gentleman's Gazette. This could be a movie which I would watch several times in the cinema.
Thanks. I love these style critiques of movies or star’s wardrobes. Have you seen Tenet yet. A fabulous array of suits and a great line from Michael Caine about tailoring.
The maroon, beige and green combo suit from the opening scene the Agent Lancelot that does not last long in the beginning..I love that "Christmas-style" suit...was not much of a suit guy before that scene to be honest..still a beginner in this sort of mens wear but these films changed my perspective..you could tell style was on a forefront..Lancelot's suit has always stuck in my memory
A lot of young people will become interested in men's style from movies like this. It's also a lot of fun. Can't wait to see a western style critique for the sequel 😁
I still have to watch Kingsman... still looking forward to it. It makes sense that spies have style. Elegant, but not overall flashy. They need to blend in. Being a gentlemen it makes all the sense in the world,...to me :)
I would have missed some of those thing had you not pointed them out. And I can't believe they made an error on the shoe types especially given that the theme around this film franchise is cloak and dagger/subterfuge/and impeccable presentation.
I second this request. I also want to know the difference between a waistcoat, a jerkin, a vest, and a gilet. Which have collars, which don't. Which self-material backs and which have silk backs, etc.
Waistcoats always look stylish and I think they're great for looking good in areas in which a suit is ill-advised simply because you would get too hot.
I’m surprised you didn’t show the 3 types of Kingsman watch by Bremont in the film. I have one .. and it’s Magnificent. Still .. a great movie and I enjoyed your review. Very informative.
Amazing video. This is not a video you watch. This is a video you study. Omg hella good. Gentleman can you do more content on prep Street style. Ty for all you do.
Can you do a video (or series of videos, it's a whole series) on Gotham (2014)? It's a veritable buffet of diverse and sometimes fantastical takes on menswear, from Harvey Bullocks 'hardboiled detective' leather jacket and fedora, Oswald Cobblepot's satin-lapelled suit with pointed oxfords and the relatively uncommon crossover tie, to Alfred Pennyworth's british style suit, with a doublebreasted waistcoat. There's a lot to talk about in that series so I'll list suggestions for characters: Jim Gordon (basic, but clean) Edward Nygma (season 5 finale version in particular, those patterns) Oswald Cobblepot (Aristocratic and eccentric) Jerome Valeska (grey morning coat) Jeremiah Valeska (a prelude to the joker color-wise) Don Falcone (polite and respected mob boss)
Jeeves was a gentleman's gentleman. Probably an English expression which needs some explanation ! It has to be said that a Butler was probably more intelligent than his employer although he would never say so. The idle rich were derided just as much as they are today.
I'm told the Ernest Hemingway quote isn't actually from Hemingway. The quote was published anonymously in a magazine Hemingway wrote for but there's no information on whether he wrote the quote.
You assumed it's "mutually exclusive". I assumed the phrase meant "Oxfords, but not Brogued Oxfords". Implying that brogue would be *too* much flair. It's the lazy/efficient way we speak here in England. It's like requesting "Ice cream; not vanilla". So I don't think they made the mistake that was easily assumed.
I'm 16 and my feet are still growing. Should I buy some cheap dress shoes while saving for more expensive ones or should I just wear the nices shows I have now
I think Kingsman is very much a intro to men's style as well, especially for young people. Eggsy is very much the surrogate for the viewer to drop themselves into the world of the film
Did I hear a Dollar Bill motif jacket mentioned ?....... No Eggsy wears this black and gold plaque zip up jacket. This is an Adidas Plaque Track Jacket by Jeremy Scott. No dollar bills in the motif upon it...
“Oxfords, Not Brogues?” you have not answered the statement. Why does that statement exist? because in the 19th and 20th centuries, brogues were worn by the Irish navies who did the hard core infrastructure of the roads and railways, and the London underground. Brogues were a working class shoe as they were stronger and more hard wearing. Gentlemen did not do this type of work, and did not need this extra leather. The Oxfords were for gentlemen who had office jobs, not labour jobs, or were Sloan rangers. so “Oxfords, Not Brogues?” means Gentleman not oik (an uncouth or obnoxious person)
He probably should have said something like smooth leather Oxfords not brogues. Shoes intended to dress more formally. Kingsman don’t dress informally. Or if he wanted to discern between formal and less formal, the movie phrase maybe should have been “Oxfords not Derby’s.” And then display these two styles side-by-side when he selected the Oxford shoes for Eggsy to try. Then he could have said “and never broguing.” That way less informed people won’t be confused to know broguing are also on Oxfords. And of course on Derby’s. The movie caused unnecessary confusion.
I’m so ready for Preston to talk about Eggsy’s dinner jacket from Golden Circle.
Stay tuned; our video on the second film is coming soon! :)

The Kingsman Movies do have a special place in my heart as they are what introduced me to the world of men's style.
Yep couldn't agree more same here
If you wear oxford shoes to oxford itself, do they just call them shoes?
.
I wore my oxfords in oxford but idk haha
Do chinese people just call chinese food 'food'?
Clayton Berg ....do people in Turkey eat Turkey
Having lived for several years in Wing Tip, Arizona, I would presume so.
Having spent some time in Oxford (not university) I would think most people would have just called them expensive.
You should have gone into the "military style" pullover/sweater Merlin wears. Those with enforcement patches on the shoulders, usually available in navy blue or olive green.
(And the Hogwarts tie!)
Great video. Kingsman: The secret service is my favourite movie. Preston looks great.😁👍
Why? I'm not trying to be somehow rude, but I'm genuinely curious as to why this is your favorite movie. Do you watch The Blacklist?
I cannot lie, I wanted to buy a new suit after watching the Kingsman.
We all did.
Do it.
I wanted to buy a suit after seeing Paul Bettany in the film "Gangster No. 1"
A suit, hat, umbrella, watch, ring, pen & pistol.
For accuracy in spy fashion, Tinker Tailor is the one to look at. And both main actors from Kingsman are in it.
Leathers and metals matching is mostly an American thing. Everything needs to be matchy matchy. I noticed that men over here in Europe, including myself, are less concerned with matching leathers and metals.
Yes, finally!! I was so waiting for Gentlemen’s Gazette to give a review on Kingsmen!! Much appreciate! Love the work Preston!!
I’m so glad you brought up Kingsman. It is much more younger and fresher, but still honors classiness. Love videos like this. Do John Wick next!
I enjoyed this video. Although I know I should always wear my oxfords with my suits, I have purposely broken the rules with somewhat regularity by wearing black or oxblood colored wingtips. And not the sleek Italian style but rather the traditional "long wing" style. Again, great video. Thank you.

Yeah the Oxfords, Not Brogues scene always gets me. The description is just wrong.
My favorite look is the initial Lancelot.
It was fixed in the French translation: "Richelieu, sans perforation" ("Oxfords, no brogue" or "Oxfords, without brogue" I guess?)
I do believe it means oxford shoes, no broguing. I have yet to see any of them wear brogued oxfords in the film. English language is one that not many people can grasp much sense of easily..
I was about to write the same about the first Lancelot's attire.
Never been a fan of spread shirt collars personally but Preston pulls this off with the most perfectly tied tie with his shirt.
Well done this is one of my favourite videos that you gentlemen have made. I am a huge lover of suits and men style in general I have shown your channel to my husband.

Maíra Maximiano thank you for correcting this pleb
Thanks for the correction, have not seen the movie in 5 years.
Nothing escapes you guys. I am impressed.
I've been waiting for this video since I discovered the channel. Thank you.

When preston said tenets, i really hope thats a hint that nolans movie is next!
Nolan movies always have great style, especially Inception and Tenet.
I would love to see an agent movie where the clothes are picked by Gentleman's Gazette. This could be a movie which I would watch several times in the cinema.

A very good video discussion. As you analyze the various characters, their looks are so different. Thank you for pointing out how they are different.
Mark Strong is one of my all time favorite actors, so I gravitate towards his wardrobe in the film.
Please do The Gentlemen next.❤
Hey Raphael, Preston, make a review about the style of the 1978 Superman
Nice outfit overview of the movie 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love the spread collar!
I haven't seen Kingsman - but I worked in Savile Row many years ago - fascinating neighbourhood
Love ❤️ the Kingsman style!! The mark of a true gentleman. Manners maker man. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😃❤️
I really want to see either of you guys do a video on either hiking or hunting attire.
I still have to watch Kingsman... still looking forward to it. It makes sense that spies have style. Elegant, but not overall flashy. They need to blend in. Being a gentlemen it makes all the sense in the world,...to me :)
Preston, you are my favourite presenter on this channel. I wish you did more videos.
With the 3rd movie(prequel) we finally know it actually meant "Oxfords(gentleman and the family) not rouges (not hooligans)"
I would have missed some of those thing had you not pointed them out. And I can't believe they made an error on the shoe types especially given that the theme around this film franchise is cloak and dagger/subterfuge/and impeccable presentation.
Looking forward to the next Kingsmen movie.
Very enjoyable! More please.
Can you do a video on types of waistcoats?
I second this request.
I also want to know the difference between a waistcoat, a jerkin, a vest, and a gilet.
Which have collars, which don't. Which self-material backs and which have silk backs, etc.
Waistcoats always look stylish and I think they're great for looking good in areas in which a suit is ill-advised simply because you would get too hot.
Preston, you look impeccable, as always! If I were a man, I would dress & speak just like you!
Thank you!
Yes,classy makes an impression.i use Oxford shirts and cufflinks, pocket squares.when you dress like these men you feel like you can do anything
That jawline commands respect.
I’m surprised you didn’t show the 3 types of Kingsman watch by Bremont in the film. I have one .. and it’s Magnificent. Still .. a great movie and I enjoyed your review. Very informative.

Preston for the antagonist in the next movie!
Can you guys do the Great Gatsby (2013) next?
Great video this is a great movie series and it makes nice to just highlight the clothes
Hi Preston,
Will there be a video about the American Counterparts - the Statesman?
The Classic American Western look.
Can you do a video (or series of videos, it's a whole series) on Gotham (2014)? Don Falcone (polite and respected mob boss)
Would love to see you guys do a style breakdown of Inception.
Jack Davenport's suit was the eye-catcher for me in the entire franchise.
Dear Gentlman's Gazette, I am looking forward a review on "Jeeves and Wooster".
+
Jeeves was a gentleman's gentleman. Probably an English expression which needs some explanation ! It has to be said that a Butler was probably more intelligent than his employer although he would never say so. The idle rich were derided just as much as they are today.
I liked the training suit tho
Can you please make another one for kingsman’s 2
The new eyewear looks good Mr. S
I'm told the Ernest Hemingway quote isn't actually from Hemingway. The quote was published anonymously in a magazine Hemingway wrote for but there's no information on whether he wrote the quote.
@9:11 the ties worn show a combination of sports clubs, regimental ties and old boys ties.
thank you so much, I was waiting for this!
Very interesting content, gents 🤙🏾
Could you do a Knives Out style review at some point?
Hey Preston Express your view on film " Spiderman 1,2,3"
In german the quote is: Oxfords nicht Budapester (trans. Oxfords not budapesters) which is correct isn't it?
It was fixed to "Richelieu, sans perforation" in French ("Oxfords, no brogue"?)
Great video Preston!
Preston yr my fav on this channel!!
So, which gun would suit (sorry) which occasion? Just to be complete :)
Hello, Dr. Crane!
I'd love to see you do a review of the movie "The Gentlemen" by Guy Ritchie, it'd be interesting to hear your takes on the character's outfits
Sorry but I think you forgot something, kingsman suit are always bulletproof
You assumed it's "mutually exclusive". I assumed the phrase meant "Oxfords, but not Brogued Oxfords". Implying that brogue would be *too* much flair.
It's the lazy/efficient way we speak here in England.
It's like requesting "Ice cream; not vanilla".

Awsome vidéo ! Do the Great Gatsby next !
The shirt you have on is great. Where did you get it? Collar is so nice
I'm 16 and my feet are still growing. Should I buy some cheap dress shoes while saving for more expensive ones or should I just wear the nices shows I have now
❤️ the British style! Men fashion haven. 👍🏽😃❤️
Liked this review, maybe look into the Peaky Blinders for some nice outfits!
Preston looks like the techmaster for kingsman
Yes!
You should analyze Tom Ford's A Single Man!
I think Kingsman is very much a intro to men's style as well, especially for young people. Eggsy is very much the surrogate for the viewer to drop themselves into the world of the film
His tie knot matches well with his shirt collar. 👍🏽 What type of knot is that??
Hi Jakob, that's called a full Windsor knot.
Please do a future style review about Peaky Blinders!
Well done
Could you do a peaky blinders style review?
I love this movie, it is inspiring 😍🤩
Good video. Sharp outfit Preston
I used to confuse Mark Strong and Stanley Tucci...
Do not watch The Departed while high. I thought Leonardo and Matt were the same guy, until I saw it 4 times. Extremely confusing stuff.
@@SansAziza point taken and well-noted. Hehehe
Pls American psycho style review for halloween special video.
Did I hear a Dollar Bill motif jacket mentioned ?....... No Eggsy wears this black and gold plaque zip up jacket. This is an Adidas Plaque Track Jacket by Jeremy Scott. No dollar bills in the motif upon it...
Yes, you're correct--the text in our post on the website has been updated to reflect this. My mistake!

Great as always ☺️ ALSO WE NEED A HANNIBAL SERIES EPISODE PLS
Wouldn’t the cufflinks with the insignia give the spy away if he was to be captured?
