First I’ve heard of this, and I’ve had FE’s since 1980. I put a high volume oil pump in mine.

The oil drains in the valley are for getting more oil to the cam and rod bearings by splashing and throwing the oil arounc.

I have a theory for the off center oil passages of the main bearings and it is about oil flow going all the way from the pump to the last rear bearing location. It was creating a restriction so all mains were getting the same amount of oil regardless of the pressure lost across the block.
At the end of the day, how many engine builders have noticed an issue with the front main bearing?

One of the most important mods is to restrict the oil flow to the rocker arms so oil won't flood the heads causing Valve cover gasket leaks and starvation of oil back to the oil pan . It's easy to take a 5/16 screw about 1/2 inch long and grind opposite sids slightly and place it in the oil feed in the head to restrict oil flow to the rockers . THE head gasket will keep the restrictor from going into the block and you can retrive the screw with a magnet if you wish .

Great video! Can you please do a complete FE build? Maybe 352 to 390

Also a good idea is to restrict the oil channel in the heads. With holley jets. Because there is so much oil coming up to the rockerarms. This helps to keep more oil down in the engine

These mods make perfect sense to me but I’m wondering what John Kaase or Brent Lykins would say about these mods??
It seems to me that oiling issues seem to go hand in hand with FE’s.

Is there a reason the bearing oiling holes are off center? Or a best guess

Typical Fe stuff those standard athlete blocks weren't meant to be high performance that's why they made the side Oiler I think they were a great pulling engine I've pulled many loads way too big for a pickup with those old Fe series in the F250s and 350s

Ive always wondered what the heck the engineers were thinking when the FE was made. I wonder why Ford engineers didn't know how to build a proper liling system. I rebuild A LOT of 5.4 2 and 3 v engines and Ford still has lots of stupid piling problems you need to fix

the OEM's were building stock engines all they needed to accomplish was that it worked good enough for a low rpm stock type engine when mass producing anything the goal is to put out a product that is good enough for the intended purpose with the least amount of production expense possible, so the thinking was it's good enough this type of manufacturing is not unique to ford it's every assembly line product. this leaves room for lots of improvements when doing a custom build
