- Baked French Toast with Cinnamon Crunch Topping
1 loaf bread
8 eggs
2 cups Half and Half
1 cup whole milk
4 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Cinnamon Crunch Topping
1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
Make topping first by combining all ingredients and setting aside.
In large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and flour. Dip bread slices one at a time and place on parchment paper lined baking pan. Spread each slice of bread with topping. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
I've been complaining recently that I'm sick of cooking. Then one of your videos popped up (pineapple casserole) that looked intriguing. Then I watched a couple more and now I'm excited about cooking again!! Going to make your meatloaf and cinnamon crisp French toast within the next couple days with more to follow. You are fun to watch, and I appreciate that you come across like a real home cook
My Mom would butter bread, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture over it, then place them directly on the oven rack. Baked them I believe in a 350°F oven until the bread is toasted to your liking. The cinnamon and sugar coating gets really crunchy. But by putting them directly on the rack, it also toasts the bottoms. A lot better than in a toaster.
My mom did something very similar and I loved it. It was a wonderful treat!
Um... didn't the butter melt and make a sugary mess on the bottom of the oven??
If I want something sweet and don’t have anything baked, I’ll melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in a frying pan and take a slice or two of bread and fry in the coating. It gets a candy covered crust and hits the spot. I usually use French bread or cinnamon swirl bread. This looks wonderful. I’m going to try it for sure. You can bet on it.
Your sweet tooth craving "fix" sounds quite delicious and like it would definitely satisfy the craving. Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it.
Tom and Melissa,
My mom
(I am 76 BTW) me French toast fingers (before they were frozen) basically the same way. When I was little and could pick them up and eat with my fingers in my high chair lolol. When I saw this video it brought tears to my eyes. I miss my mom so very much. I am enjoying you all so much. God bless you both.

Fruit on the crunching 😂❤😂
Some fruit with this would be amazing.
I've always put a lil flour in the egg and milk mix ,it seems to help it crispy and brown up in the pan on top of stove
My daddy always made hmade pancakes & French toast. He wldnt make diff ones....strwbrry/blubrry/pnt bttr..ect.
During school days...he wld always make big brkfst EVRY sat Sumtimes sundays too wen I was growing up.

You have taken French toast to a whole new level!! Would make it right this minute but I don't have any half and half!! Looks so yummy, can't wait to make it!! We grew up having French toast as a treat for weekend breakfasts. Thanks for the flashback memory!
You’re very welcome. Hopefully you can have it soon!
Oh, yes❣️❣️ The topping reminds me of toast my mom used to do in the oven; which helped the kitchen not be so cold in the winters. Can't remember how she did it, but this looks fabulous. Can't wait to try it!!
The first time I had French Toast was in 1989 when I broke my left knee and spent a week in hospital.
You both are my favorite RUclips cook show. I love everything you just make ❤️🪽
We always just called it toast bread and we smeared butter on it and then slathered maple syrup, put it in the oven just long enough to melt the butter and maple syrup. We also had a gas stove, my husband and I have been married for 57 years and always cooked on a gas stove .As I have said before I really enjoy your videos and love trying the recipes. Thank you Tom and Melissa.
French toast is one of favorite things! This looks absolutely delicious and can’t wait to try it. Love your channel.
Thank you so much. We hope you enjoy this!
That cinnamon crunch topping looks like it would be good in a baked sweet potato 😋
YES! What a wonderful idea! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it.
To me, French toast means cozy, warm family time. Dinner or breakfast, doesn’t matter. Always a favorite. I appreciate this recipe as have always wanted a way that everybody can eat at once.
That’s one reason we like it so much! Everyone can eat together.
I just subscribed to your channel if you can send me good recipes and I don't want to be left out one of them LOL. Thank you so much for sharing God bless. I am 76 and I still love to cook so in any and all of your recipes really sound wonderful and I've learned a lot of different recipes French German Oriental but you never get too old to learn more recipes. To please your family and friends❤👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The heal of hot fresh baked bread with butter. The best
Sometimes I put on some food handler gloves and then I use my hands to get a mixture like that combined.
My guess the topping on this french toast is going to be a crystalline cruch!
Yum.
You all are lovely people! I too am a Kentucky person. I love your cooking!!!
You’re very kind! Thank you for watching, fellow Kentuckian!
This back many years, My Grandma made cinnamon french toast and it looks just like what you have in the video. As well as being a kid in school they had cinnamon french toast. I don't know how either my grandma or the school made it but I absolutely loved it. Thank you for the memories.
Oh my goodness , I may make this for supper tonight ❤
Breakfast food for supper for the WIN!!!!!!!
This looks absolutely delicious. I think this would be great my Christmas morning for the whole family. I love the heels of the bread. I’m so glad I found your channel. Make some great food.

I love custard 😊
🤫👨⚕️👩🏼🍼. Poor baby.
It has been many years since I had French toast. Probably since I hate dipping and frying, dipping and frying and everyone was done eating before I got to eat. Thank you for sharing !! And the cinnamon topping looks wonderful..
That’s exactly why we love baking them! Everyone can eat at the same time together.
Are usually do French toast in one of my cast-iron pieces. I’ll have to try this version. Looks yummy. I love cinnamon too. In my opinion many recipes don’t put enough
There’s definitely a lot of ways to prepare delicious French Toast. I enjoy taking these out of the freezer and letting them thaw. I heat them a few minutes in oven or a few seconds in the microwave and eat it like a piece of toast. It’s so delicious I think. Thanks for joining us at the table.
@comesitatmytable
So can u freeze these after cooking them?🤔
We hadfrench toast this Morin
That looks amazing ❤
Just found your channel…this french toast looks so delicious!!!..going to have to try it…..
Please do! It’s yummy! Have a wonderful day!
I love the french toast recipe! Looks great for "when company comes". I wish you two would publish a cookbook. I would truly enjoy that. Keep up the great recipe shares.😀
My family was a French toast over pancake family. We took a trip in the 1960s across the US and they fixed French toast by frying it in a deep fat fryer. On special occasions that was our go to breakfast. Train French Toast.
Tom, love you’re channel❤watch it every week.I will be making the Baked French Toast for my breakfast. Great for you to share these delicious recipes.
Thank you so much for the nice comment! We appreciate it and we hope you enjoy the French Toast!
We used to have breakfast night every Monday night. My husband would make the French toast and I would make the eggs and sausage or bacon. We always had such a mess! I wish I had thought about baking the French toast! That makes so much sense! It looks yummy. Thank you so much for sharing!
The first thing I noticed was that beautiful bowl. I love the colors & the shape of it too!
Yum!
Absolutely!
I enjoy your channel so much. Everytime I see a video that shows something a bit unusual I always look to see if it is one of yours and if it is I always watch because I know it is something I am not familiar with. Thank you 😋 We appreciate that you're watching our channel.
This looks great! I make goodies for our coffee bar at church every Sunday, so I think this would be good cut into four pieces and served on a platter for people to serve themselves. I made your cream cheese Danish last week and had 3 people ask for the recipe!
That makes us so happy to hear! We would love it if you'd share information about our channel! We have been so excited to watch it grow. I think cutting it into bite sized pieces is a great idea for what you are doing. Have a wonderful day! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
Aloha from a suburb of Honolulu Hawaii!!
Yes I’ve had and still make today. My brother and I eat it when I have a craving for it. Thank you for sharing

This looks AMAZING! Thank you both for sharing it with us! I just began watching your channel and I really enjoy watching you make all of your recipes!!! What a wonderful name for your channel too! I love it! ❤️😊
Yum! First of all, I love the sound your stove makes. It reminds me of an ice cream truck.
Secondly, I think the “batter” is a basic custard-eggs, milk, cream (well-half and half), and sugar. Flour helps keep the egg from curdling.
Thirdly, that topping reminds me of the cinnamon toast we used to make as kids. We had an old , second hand, very basic toaster oven that was really just a broiler. I loved how the brown sugar and butter would caramelize and turn crunchy.
Fourthly, I can’t wait to try your recipe. I know it will be amazing!
And fifthly…😂…Thanks for sharing! ❤
You’re very welcome! You’re numbering made us laugh!
What a beautiful bowl! Believe it or not, but I have never had French toast. 🤭 Pancakes, yes, lots of them, but no French toast. I think it is time I had some! Don't you think so, too?😉
It’s delicious
When I worked in the restaurant we would make the egg mixture with cinnamon and vanilla flavor and we would get thick French bread butt of the pan. We would pour all the egg mixture on. We would put it in the refrigerator overnight and then we would bake it the next morning and it was delicious. That's the old fashioned way. I still do it today. Always bake my friend's toast. It comes like a souffle on top. It is so delicious but this one looks absolutely scrumptious
This Tina loves those bowls too!
Oh man! That looks so good! I've always liked French Toast better than Waffles or Pancakes.
I will definitely try this recipe this weekend.
Hope you enjoy this! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it!
Looks delicious! I was watching with my boyfriend( I told him to note the recipe!) who makes me breakfast often. He mentioned he uses pancake batter instead of flour. His French toast is delicious.
How sweet that he is the breakfast maker! I bet his French toast is great! Thank you so much for watching; we really do appreciate it.
LOVE the bowl! ❤
I love that bowl!
Just found your channel and absolutely love it!! You do a great job of explaining everything!
That looks awesome I'm going to try it
Wow going to make this. Looks so good
That looks delicious! It looks like our cinnamon toast which had a layer of butter, then a teaspoon of sugar, and heavy sprinkling of cinnamon on top of each slice. Then you put it under the broiler for a couple of minutes.❤❤❤
Very similar! Thank you so much for watching. We really do appreciate it.
That looks so yummy! I will have to try this.
Goodness that looks out standing 👍
#1 you are using the best bread and #2 that looks delicious.
I am so happy i found your channel. So far i love every recipe you have shared. 😊
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
I make a baked French toast with the same ingredients, minus the flour, but mine says put in a baking dish, pour the remainder of milk mixture over top and refrigerate overnight. I put the topping over it and put in the oven. But I am going to try this way because I won't have to wait overnight. Looks yummy this way.
I enjoy your videos
This looks incredible. I can hardly wait to try it. Thank you.
You’re very welcome! We hope you like it. Thanks for watching!
This looks so yummy!😋 I will be trying this really soon!
Please do! Thank you so much for watching our channel.

A must make recipe, my family will love this❤
We sure hope so! Thank you so much for watching.
Thank you for sharing your recipes. I also bake my French toast in the oven. I like to use cinnamon raisin bread.
My Mom made French toast a lot ...and many times for supper. I'm sure she would have loved to know you could make it in the oven since she was making it for 5 kids and her and Dad. But never had a topping on like this so I will be trying it. I share all your recipes with my 2 cousins and my daughter in law. 😋
Thank you so much for sharing our recipes with your family. We'd love to have them join our channel, too. It's nice to have friends and family at the table with us! We hope you enjoy the French toast!
Spray with cooking spray the inside of whatever you're using to meadure anything thick and sticky. BRILLIANT!! 😊
We really appreciate your nice feedback. Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks
This looks so good and easy, I'm going to make this for my gdkids😊 thank you🌻
You’re welcome 😊 we hope they enjoy it. Have a wonderful day!
Yumm a piece of Heaven 😊😇
It really is! It's a great treat. We love having it for a lazy weekend morning.
My mom , every other day she would make a double batch of bread. My brother's would fight over the heels. I had 4 brothers and my dad, there was never any left over. All that bread was gone in 2 days.
I can’t wait to make this tomorrow morning. But tonight its the Kentucky Derby Pie 😂
We never had French toast growing up but when we make it now he just put an egg in a pan add some milk dip your bread in it take it out and fry both sides and then put syrup on it that’s all. Nothing like delicious the way yours looks.
The heel makes the best toast if using the oven
Absolutely love your cooking. Was wondering if you would know how to make frozen green beans mine are always watery?❤️
We’ve considered making a video cooking green beans sometime but it doesn’t feel like much of a recipe to us. I don’t know if I can accurately explain what I do here, but I will try. I will also try to post a video in the next week or so that may be more detailed. Here is what I do: I use canned green beans, normally my own home canned green beans but occasionally I use store-bought. I put the green beans and the juice in a large “cooker”, add bacon grease, and salt them well. I turn them on high until they are boiling hard, then turn them down to medium low and let them simmer for several hours, until the liquid has almost completely cooked off of them. if the liquid cooks off before the beans look shriveled, I will occasionally add a little extra water to them during the cooking process. I usually cook the beans anywhere between three and four hours with them just simmering. Never stir the beans! You can scoop under them to turn them over or just gently shake the pan to move them around, but NEVER stir them. It should work exactly the same with frozen green beans, except that you will have to add water to cover the beans when you first start cooking them. I hope this is what you meant and that you enjoy them prepared this way.
I NVR knew not to stir green beans or it makes sence.
I'm definitely going try ur green beans recipe. I jus watched ur green beans video ystrdy.
We love French Toast! And this looks delicious!!! I can already see my blood sugar skyrocketing! Ha!
Didn't see waffles yet on your channel. 20 years ago, my wife and I were introduced to malted waffles at the Hyatt hotel in Seattle. Amazing flavor and scent. Probably some recipes online. I put malt powder in the waffle batter before making.
We have discussed waffles for a video. I love them so maybe we could definitely try to do a video. And those malted ones sound fabulous!
I freeze my extra pancakes!
We do too. It's so nice to get up for work and not have to start from the beginning with breakfast! Thanks for the reminder! It's a great idea to share with people for timesavers!
This looks so yummy! Back in the day Mom cooked French toast for breakfast and dinner sometimes just like you shared, Tom. My dad always shook some salt and pepper on his and he called it eggy bread lol! I can’t wait to try this recipe….oh, the egg mixture you couldn’t find a word for is a ‘custard’ mix. God bless and thanks for a new breakfast idea!
Thank you so much for watching our video. We hope you enjoy the French Toast. Have a great day!
Melissa doesn't care for custard and I think Tom was trying to avoid that particular label. Kind man.
Loved it,mom always made it on the stove. We had homemade syrup and peanut butter, so good butter and then put the peanut butter on while the French toast is hot and then the syrup, so the peanut butter is nice and gooey up on top however, much you want yummy, are we do butter, syrup, egg over easy, delicious.. I think you like sugar as much as I do lol I love the egg yolk right on top of that butter and syrup and make sure there’s syrup on that egg😜
You are definitely a lover of a good breakfast! We can relate! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it.
Wow...I never knew anyone who didn't like custard. LOL
Oh Mannnnnnnnn! Also if you suggest using flour! I am using it! I trust you! 😊
😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊❤
That French toast looks like its the reason God gave us whipped cream. Yum! Can't wait to make this. You guys cook for an army, I cook for one (laughing)
We do like to have things in our freezer for later. Sometimes we just don't have as much time as we'd like to get food for a meal.
Thank you for watching.
Looks absolutely delicious. You need to open up a restaurant. Lol
We are just hoping to one day print a cookbook. A restaurant is way more than we could handle. Maybe if we were a lot younger! Thank you so much for watching our video. We really appreciate it.
My wife would love a set of those bowls where were they purchased, if you don't mind sharing. Thank you, and we love your channel.
Y'all are such good cooks, l love several of your recipes. Have you ever thought about trying to use the last of a loaf of banana bread, or carrot cake to make french toast with? I don't know why l thought of that watching you, but l may give it a try.
OMG!! That's what l call my bacon. Wimpy!! Cooked but not over done. Love it!!!😊
We have toasted the last of a loaf before but it's possible that if you soaked leftover slices in the French toast mixture it might fall apart. But maybe not. It would be worth a try if you have some leftover!
In another video you said you bake your bacon. Please, at what temperature and for how long? Do you place it on a rack? Flip it? Everything you make looks so good!
We are going to post a video for the baked bacon later this week. Thank you for asking about it. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel.
Baie dankie love and blessings Bread Brood
Thank you so much for watching our channel. Merry Christmas!
17:00
Luk how beautiful those are! 😍
Mmm.....gta try these.
We hope you have and that you've enjoyed them. Thank you so much for watching. We really appreciate it.
I love using steel hamburger buns for my French toast.
I've never heard of steel hamburger buns. We need to look for those.
When you first said you're going to bake french toast I thought it'd be crunchier. Then I thought, toaster oven! Maybe...?
Can karo be used in place of the light corn syrup?
Maybe tub butter would be easier for this instead of stick. I do like "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter."
Fo' sho', brioche bread is 💣 for french toast! I might even use cinnamon bread for a recipe like this.
Can this be made ahead of time? We make French toast for breakfast and sometime supper, don’t remember having it as a child ever.
You could make it and freeze it ahead. It might be a bit soggier that way. But it's always nice to have stuff in the freezer to make a fast meal. And we love breakfast food for dinner, like you! Thanks so much for watching our channel. We really do appreciate it.
