This is The Best Memory For Gaming on Ryzen 3000!

  • Ryzen 3000 is finally out, And you might want to build a brand new rig, or even update the one you have right now.well, theres something that a lot of people overlook when buying computer parts and I have to admit, I’ve overlooked it myself. That thing is memory and today I’m diving deep into the perfect memory for gaming on Ryzen 3000! What is up guys i’m snows and this, is .. a different kind of boot sequence.
    So you chose your CPU, it could be the R5 3600 which seem to be the perfect chip for gaming, or it could be the 3900x if you wanted a lot more cores and power.
    You chose your case, your motherboard, your power supply, your storage,your RGB but now its time to make a choice about memory. Do you go for the cheapest 2133Mhz kit you can find, or do you go all out and buy a 4000+Mhz kit to make sure its the fastest it can be. Well, while ryzen 3000 has no problems running super fast memory, it doesn’t mean it's the best choice Or the best bang for your buck.
    For the first 2 generation of Ryzen , the memory clock was synced one to one with the infinity fabric. So if your memory was at DDR4-2133 which is actually 1066Mhz,remember DDR means double data rate, your infinity fabric would also be at 1066Mhz. So the higher your ram speed the higher the infinity fabric. But it started to get unstable the higher you got which meant that DDR4-4000 on ryzen was extremely hard to achieve.
    Now, with Zen 2, the memory can be decoupled very easily at a certain point. That specific point is between 3733Mhz and 3866. Once you cross that line you Infinity fabric speed get’s halved to compensate. At that point things like raw memory latency take a hit. But does it really matter ? Does latency truly make a difference in games. Well yes it does and Tech power up went through rigorous testing to find out which memory speed is best for Zen 2.

    Quick practical tip to help you choose: make a selection of several modules you like for their looks (trust me 🙂) and that are supported by your mobo. Then for each module calculate its ratio like so: divide the frequency by its CL and rank the result from hight to low. e.g. 3200 / CL14 = 228.6 and 3600 / CL17 = 211 The higher the result the better, so in this example 3200 CL14 is better. If there's a very close near-tie of a couple of points, the module with the higher frequency ranks over the one with a lesser frequency, so adjust the ranking accorindly. Now next to each module write down the price. Chosing is now simpler: the list is now ranked from highest performance to lowest with the price next to each, so pick the highest one that you can afford.

    What about capacity? You mentioned the other specs but not capacity. Sure - most people will be fine with 2x8GB kits and speed wise that's the best configuration on most motherboards.
    But some people need more. Like 32GB, 64GB or even 128GB. Yes 128GB is supported on X570.
    Also there is different motherboard configurations. Most use daisy chain memory laypout meaning 2 sticks work best there but some use T-Topology layout that are optimized for 4 stick operation. The only X570 that is T-Top that i know of is AsRock Taichi.
    Also Samsung recently released 32GB sticks meaning you can actually get 128GB 2666Mhz for under 700$. Buildzoid also tried to overclock these. They did pretty well at 3600Mhz.

      @photonboy999 5 лет назад +1

      I have an R9-3900x on order but after much research I'm getting the Asus Strix X470-F Gaming board. I don't care about the extra M.2 bandwidth or top PCIe bandwidth (though you should if you do productivity as the PCIe v4.0 matters in some situations).. my top reasons I'm not getting X570 is:
      1) cost (since there's minimal added value for me)
      2) CHIPSET FAN is very noisy (varies a lot but I've dealt with this in the past)
      3) CHIPSET FAN might die in the future and be a hassle to replace
      4) motherboards, like many things, improve in general as production continues, issues are found, then the production issues are fixed (so a brand new X570 board is more likely to have problems than a brand-new X470 board that is a similar type and of similar parts)

    the thing is, the performance gain for XMP profiles is so freakin low, you should OC the memory using the "RYZEN DRAM calculator"... putting all those timing and V, then you can se the REAL difference in those frequencies, this test shows nothing, really, buying higher frequency RAM on a XMP profile doesnt change anything really, the difference is really low, as you said, 5%... but overclocking it manually is the real deal.. get back to work and do a proper freq test

    This looks great for me. I recently ordered a PC with 3000 MHz CL15 RAM, and am planning to upgrade to Zen 2 in 2-3 years when it's really cheap (maybe Zen 3 if it's still compatible with B450/AM4, but I don't expect it will be). I shouldn't have to worry too much about bottlenecking by CPU with my RAM, and (if any games I want to play over the next couple of years need it, or if browsers keep increasing their memory demands), I should be able to double up to 32GB for pretty cheap at that point as well.
