  • With the obesity epidemic on the rise, there is a looming question of how this will impact the world of transplantation. The concern lies in both the potential recipients and donor pools. Indications for transplant, quality of organs, and safety of living donation all hinge on the management of weight. Join us to hear from two industry experts as they collaboratively address the obesity epidemic in its entirety. To start, we’ll hear from Dr. Kalia who will speak to the increasing incidence of Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis and its impact on the makeup of the liver waitlist and the ability to find acceptable organs from both deceased and living donors. Lastly, we’ll hear from Dr. Popov who will share her expertise on endobariatric surgery as it relates to transplant patients. She will review the different procedures available, selection of appropriate candidates for these interventions, and how they can be applied to the transplant world.
Presented on April 23, 2020 by Harmit Kalia, MD and Violeta Popov, MD.
