In the south being “thick” or having “meat on your bones” is praised. Growing up my Grandma would feed me and feed me because I was too skinny. This mindset has got to change.
Facts! I’m from California so growing up I never really heard anything bad about my body. But when I traveled to the south, I was attacked relentlessly for being skinny. It’s almost like this type of lifestyle is praised smh Nonetheless, I hope all of these kids and their families are doing well.
@@nonchalantnell It is praised, I was a chubby kid growing up so when I went to go visit my aunts in Atlanta, they were working on fixing my second plate while me finishing my first one and then would send me back home with ziploc bag filled with homemade biscuits.

@Rawhealthbitch that's good to know because my pcp told my I am prebiabetic but the nutrition guides they provide tell you the DON'TS not what you should eat. But you're right RUclips was beneficial in helping me with other food options because i like to switch it up even though I know what I need to eat I just needed an expanded menu and meal prep.

I've been obese myself and it's a difficult journey to lose weight, but I'm so grateful she wants to lose it for herself, not anyone else.
I feel so bad for the woman that was raped. She said "I felt that If I gained that weight, then nobody would touch me". Wow... that line is beyond depressing

Balloon releases are so bad for the animals. They find dead animals with balloons wrapped around them, in their stomach, etc. There are better ways to show symbolic weight loss, ways that don’t cause death.

I like this interviewer. She doesn't try to give her opinion to these folks, doesn't tell them they "should" do anything, she just asks questions and listens and actually tries to empathize and understand. A good style of reporting.

At 4 years old, 4 years old, BLOOMING FOUR YEARS OLD??? Who else thought the boy was at least 9 years old and just short.
My brother is 4, and he weighs 36-40 lbs. I’m around 8 years older than the kid and he just has to gain 17 pounds to weigh the same as me. It’s sad because he can have so many health issues and they start here.
My nephew is 4 and is so tiny. I never would have thought that kid was 4. Never seen a 4 year old look like a 10 year old.
He looks like a 5 year old. I was about his height at 5 but weighed 104 at 11 years old.

@@sweetzs100 i want to share whats helping me. What is helping me is choosing fruit over processed sweets, and adding in more vegetables and healthy meats and such. Going from eating 100% garbage to 100% healthy os extremely hard. If you can(and you want to, of course), try adding in healthy food and eating those first.

@@sweetzs100 you’ve got this💕💯. Some simple changes you can start making is drink a gallon of water a day, incorporate one green vegetable into each of your meals, limit snacking and if you have to snack make sure it’s a fruit, and practice portion control as well as eating within a calorie deficit

Yes...bc "poor" people get free money from the government. In turn they go out and buy $400 worth of junk food. If people had to work for their own food, they might make better decisians. End food stamps and we will dramatically reduce obesity

I knew a guy who said "I wont accept a job that pays less than 250 a week bc that's what I get from unemployment." 🙄 I've seen plenty of people saying "Why should I get a job when I get money from the government." Lol. And the point was not discussing food stamps but how government assistance causes obesity.
Jaylens mother needs to pull the hell up and do what’s right for her child. My 4 year old son does the same thing when he wants something. My favourite line after saying no a million times is “tough luck mate”
Someone said once that if your kids don't both love and hate you, you're not doing it right. They love you for caring about them, they hate you for being firm and teaching them right from wrong. You're not a friend, you're a parent.

When Brianna said, "Coach let me catch my breathe." I heard someone say, It's ok Brianna." That made me tear up. At least somebody had some compassion.
Her coach does have compassion, he is also training her. A lot of athletes have trouble catching their breath from time to time, it doesn’t mean everything stops for them

I love Lisa Ling's approach. She knows this isn't about her, so she stays in the background. Her style is to-the-point but listening, observing. There are too many reporters getting emotionally involved and showing it by getting agitated etc. which isn't professional at all.
I really appreciate how the woman is able to interview people without being invasive. She asks uncomfortable questions but she does it in such a friendly way.
That is why she has been employed like my entire life lol I dont ever not remember seeing her doing these kinds of interviews

I still don't like the narrative of soul food itself being painted as bad. Its not. What is bad is how its cooked and consumed at a time.

I was obese my entire childhood, got bullied daily, got even bigger in my 20's and early 30's and in these last couple of years I've lost 115lbs. I've seen to too many of my family members funerals for high blood pressure and diabetes and I decided food wasn't going to be my killer

@@BigGrandmas I really hope you can succeed in this journey ! My sister is currently in tvis too she lost 10 pounds so far. What I see her do is eat 3 times a day 8 hours apart from each meals. Also talk to your mum about it. And ask her for help.

20 years ago I know of a mother who had social services involved as they threatened to take her child away due to neglect bc she had made him morbidly obese. He was 8 years old at that point. It’s not love it’s neglect of their health. It’s literally harming a child.

And the reporter is acting sorry for the mother like she’s not the one responsible- with some sad music in the background. This is a disgrace. Stop playing victim and take charge of your child’s health or have your child taken away. It’s a form of child abuse.

I grew up with parents who fed me garbage. I finally took responsibility of my weight when I was 17 and now I eat 5x healthier. Responsibility is everything

A lot of these videos are very fear-mongering and coupled with paranoid Americans makes them see anything seasoned (shout out to anyone who remembers the MSG panic) unhealthy.
Child doesn't need specialist to solve his weight problem. He needs a mother who can say "No" and act like a parent.
Even the doctor was like ‘just ignore him’ he is only 4 or 5 so she can still turn this behavior around. Especially while he is still at home and she knows what he is eating. She just feeds him to shut him up.

Stress eating or a coping mechanism for some trauma experienced,,,Food can be an addiction and worse than alcohol because you don’t need alcohol to survive but you need food and being a food addict surrounded by their drug to survive

I know this episode is old but if you are like that at 12 years old and people are constantly telling you to lose weight you have a higher chance of having a eating disorder The scariest part about that is the fact that people might see it as good so those parents is doing her damage in more ways then one.
Her mom won't stop feeding her that bad food. Clearly she doesn't care about her child and neither does her dad.
@@samantharamirez2363 yeah I've often thought that, it's not like you can count your days of abstinence even because you have to eat to survive. I found it easier to make a couple of changes every week like using sweetener instead of sugar and snacking on sugar free jelly rather than sweets . It worked for me, took me a couple of years to get to my ideal weight but I got there!

I love how Lisa ling conducts her interviews. She is never rude or intrusive, you can tell she just genuinely tries to understand how some people live their lives. I hope all these people find health and happiness because they deserve it.

Tatum Soto true and simple, the food culture starts with parents. If parents give bad food to their kids, it’s a form of child abuse, because they are setting kids for failure in the society and life.

Pathological parenting. Obesity isn't even the problem anymore...these same kids spend 12 hours a day on screens and will be a taxpayer burden for their diagnosis of digital dementia in less than a year. Sad, but when the schools close down they will have no chance/low chance of living a decent life.
True- i am very mildly overweight not too severely but i felt bad for these kids, i am in cali and they had healthy food and its the second richest state in the US but Arkansas or Mississippi are much poorer than cali or new york, thats why many poor families had to buy very little healthy food, and buy alot of junk food to feed they’re kids, causing them to be overweight but in rich states like NYC or Cali the increasing of inactivity caused us to get fatter 30 years later
I just love that momma who said I need someone to teach me how. So beautiful to be willing to reach out. I hope someone can help her to learn so she and her family can live a long and healthy life. Also, since she is so important in her community, she can spread the new knowledge.

My child helps to keep me on track holding me accountable and I do the same for her. We have an unbreakable bond. We help one another in various aspects in this walk of life😍She is my biggest supporter and I am hers❤❤
It's not about ignoring him, if he's really hungry for a snack, you can have a piece of cucumber, a carrot, an apple, you choose my son, but this is all that's available.
yupp, if he was really THAT hungry he'd eat the fruit. It's clear that he just wants more food.
Fruit has a lot of carbohydrates, notably fructose which is toxic to the liver and turns off fat burning. Eating fruit just makes you hungry...so not a good idea. Instead - green leafy veggies, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower and cream soup with chunks of chicken. Yum. That will fill his belly and let him lose weight.
@@Pravda_Z Eating fruit can also be a great snack for kids who don’t appreciate greens, and the way you describe it sounds too keto-ish. Seriously dude fruits are healthy af, if you want some protein to balance it out just eat a small yogurt. Kids who’re already addicted to sugar are going to have some trouble with veggies unfortunately
when I was a child if I was hungry, my mother said wait till it's time for a meal. we had 3 meals a day with 1 snack being fruit. This used to ve normal and turned out to be way better than the normal 6 small mealth and endless snacking.

So true. Here in France there are only healthy options, and water to drink. They expect children to be healthy but the school cantine isn't even setting a good example. It is so sad to watch, they have no clue and aren't given the tools to know or do better 😢

At my elementary school we had this thing called "a healthy snack cart" and basically every two lunch periods this lady would come around with a cart filled with snacks like cheese strings, yogurts, fresh fruit, cheese, crackers, peppers/carrot sticks and the cart would stop at every class. You could take whatever you wanted from the cart for free and sometimes she'd have students help her out/assist her with handing out the snacks. It was pretty popular. I live in Latvia. Here it is actually illegal to sell foods at schools that have more than about 15g of sugar. And I'm pretty sure that most European countries have that. At our schools you will never find a deep fryer.

I was once 10 stone heavier due to severe depression from an abusive husband, but the day I got him out of my life I changed everything. I asked for help and was taught how to change and now I am on the verge of overweight due to illness and disability but I am better to be able to keep it all off.
I hope and pray these kids and families can get there so that they have a good and healthy life ahead of them x

I am French and was in the US this summer. I was shocked by the lack of healthy food in some places. In the supermarket, many products are prohibited in our country because they contain too much sugar, fat and carcinogenic preservatives. It's terrible, because it means that poor people are not given the choice to eat poorly. The menus in our schools are also balanced and controlled by nutritionists. This prevents children who eat poorly the rest of the time from having at least one healthy meal. A society that eats poorly is a society that is doing poorly.
When Brianna and her mom went shopping, their shopping cart was full of sugary stuff: Chips Ahoy cookies, Frosted Flakes cereal, Grape jelly, Sugar, Hawaiian Punch, Capri Sun juice drinks, Pop Tarts, etc. It's too much sugar. People just need to be taught to read the ingredients of what they're consuming to make healthier choices. The only healthy thing I caught a glimpse of was the meat and cabbage.
A lot of money goes into marketing sugar products as healthy. I was in the frozen section the other day looking at the precooked rotisserie chicken and it had sugar in it. PopTarts are now advertised “made with real strawberries”. People aren’t education on healthy food. People are taught portion control... not eliminating junk food.

Its so hard to lose weight when you’re bullied because even if you’re trying hard, being constantly called names makes you sad so you stress eat and dig a deeper hole for yourself. I’m like 20-30 lbs more than I should be for my height/body shape, but what helped me lose weight was getting a puppy! Having the responsibility of walking the dog everyday helps with this journey, especially when you can make it exciting, like going on hikes, nature walks, etc
