Five decades ago when I was 3 or 4, I slept in the living room (our flat was small and I had no bedroom) and watched the midnight reruns of the Star Trek series. I've been a Trekkie ever since and though I like TNG and DS9, I feel "at home" the most with the Original Star Trek.
The Enterprise NCC-1701 Constitution Class is THE STARSHIP to me; the first one that instantly comes to mind whenever I hear the word "starship."

I rememeber in the early days like few years after the motion picture came out the story was that enterprise wasnt in no rush to be refitted, they had ample time, kirk and starfleet were talking and new rules were being made, the tech was being taught and it was just basically downtime for everyone. Enterprise wasnt in a rushed refit like being shown here. The big pieces weren't put on the ship in one big succession. The entire ship was stripped down to almost the wireframe and even the framing was restructured, replaced and enlarged for the new enterprise to come. Alot of the old internal components of the old did stay. Thats why decker said its almost a totally new enterprise. But enterprise was refitted but just at a less rapid pace. From my unerstanding of the early explanations was that all of the material and tech was already in drydock with the ship so nobody had to run back and forth to get something. It was re-constructed on the spot. Only time they kicked into high gear was when the cloud was on its way to earth and they had hours to intercept it.

I still can't see how this was a refit to the TV series Enterprise. Other than the general shape, every section is drastically different. It's the ship of Theseus paradox at its final conclusion, only instead of replacing a small part one at a time, they basically built a new ship and gave it the same registry. That's why I like what they did for the next generation films. They destroyed the D and brought them back in the E with the same crew.

Actually this was not just a refit but a complete redesign of the entire Constitution class USS Enterprise. In fact if you go by what they said in the Lost years novels, specifically in the second one a flag full of stars, they had to disconnect the saucer and fly it down to the San Francisco Navy Yard, so that they have a normal gravity environment to work on the saucer.

The Enterprise was first captained by Captain April after it was first built. It then had a major refit before being taken over by Captain Pike. It then had a major refit before being taken over by Captain Kirk. Then it had another major refit after Captain Kirk's first five years as captain. The enterprise was 15 years old when this refit was done.
Each refit modified the Enterprise using technology that had been discovered and reversed engineered by all of Star Fleet's exploratory vessels. The warp engine systems took up a large part of the engineering hull for most of its life but the Enterprise meet aliens who showed Scotty the plans for a warp engine the size of a walnut. He did not get enough information to actually make that work but he did get enough to get the newer and much much smaller warp core that was show on this third refit.

Beautiful animation, though lacking in details that one would expect if it were real. And I've got to say - there's no way it could have been assembled like this!

Great job visually. I won't nitpick the various engineering aspects of assembling the ship.

I'm not entirely certain why, or if there even *_is_* a "why", but my favorite between the original Constitution and Constitution Refit classes is the Constitution _Refit._ I don't honestly remember, but I _think_ I'd seen some episodes of ST:TOS before having gone to watch ST:TMP. Nevertheless, TMP had a _massive_ impact on me, visually, and I think that upgrade was a LOT better than it was ever depicted as being.

I miss the nacelles on Kirk's ship. Those orange glowing beacons seemed to radiate power to me; you could see something rotating beneath the "glass" that seemed awesome to me. Now, it's just kind of a vent. Flat in both senses of the word.

Amazing. And I love how you end with what appears to be Scotty and Kirk's pod arriving.

The lady was treated well here. you showed care in the animation and honestly? This would've been an amazing opening credits montage for the motion picture. just to show the passage of time.

Like a great bird that glides through the universe of uncharted mysteries and realms of every undiscovered country. A head factor one and on till morning a star to guide us by to the future may not be perfect but it's the exact mile to find out what's out there to take the ride of that everybody wants to take aboard that ship ever since it first grace every television on earth light years ago. Beam Us Scottie!
