I appreciated Kally’s input on diversity within DCC. The fact that 1 black girl made it last year is crazy to me. Not many Latina or Asian women are seen as well. I even saw a pic of all the rookies this year and all the ethnic rookies were not included. I don’t think Zhenya gets that due to her background. Something an ethnic backgrounds gets & goes thru first hand.

I am loving the unvarnished truth of it all. I would love to see your take on a season of Making the Team.

Yes, giving out Barbies at banquet was new. They were always given at the first meeting
I remember Maddie M getting one and saying was her first Barbie.

FABULOUS episode! I love this podcast so much because hearing your thoughts and opinions about what was really going on behind the scenes is so refreshing. I don't think many girls can be as honest as you both are because they are still on the team. Thank you Thank you!!!

I have a question, why is the solo audition a huge part of the audition? When it’s so obvious that a lot of the great soloist aren’t chosen, there is a huge difference between being a great dancer/ performer and not so great as a DCC performer. I would love to know. Great show ladies.

when you talked about the lack of diversity of colour in teams I think that too. I am the only black woman in my dance school that goes to championship. And every year when they want to do something with their hair they don't think about what is possible for my type of hair.
but only what looks good on straight hair.
sometimes they don't even ask for my opinion if it is possible on my hair so they just decide. I know I should stand up for myself but I say It every year I mean they should probably remember that.
so I thank you very much for speaking about it

Love the mention on a lack of diversity. In looking at diversity, as far as race is considered, we don’t see enough AA, Asian, Hispanic, etc. ladies on this team. In Texas or not, being known as America’s Sweethearts but not representing the melting pot that this country is is a disservice to the organization itself. The best year so far of DCC was when Kally, Kayla, Kelee, Darian, Ashlee, Jada, Kat, Chandi, Tyra, & Elli were on the team. A fourth of the team represented by talented, strong young women of color, i.e. Black (of African descent) &/or Latinx (Im assuming Elli’s ethnicity, and my sincerest apologies if I’m wrong) was empowering to see. In the future, I would love to see more hopefuls like former DCCs Yuko and Joanna. Arisha would have been superb as a DCC and I hope that her appearance on this show will encourage others who are Indian or of Indian descent to work hard and audition. Representation matters. As a Ghanaian American, seeing Kally, Kelee, Jackie Bob, Tia, Mia Greenhouse, and the legendary Nicole Hamilton feeds my delusions of being a DCC despite not having stretched in years! 😂 And it will fuel the dreams of other little girls and hopefuls if they can see the results of hard work put in by someone who looks just like them 😊
Thanks for being so open about your journeys as DCC, & keep up the momentum ladies! This is awesome to watch and I love the insight 💙

Enjoying this look behind the scenes. I was surprised you’re not given, and it seems even discouraged from asking for, more feedback. How do you improve and know where you stand?
The other thing that really surprised me was you’re left sitting for long periods of time before dancing. That just seems crazy for any athlete where injuries are your worst enemy. I assumed being properly warmed up and also strength conditioning would just be built into your paid schedule as a matter of course.
When management basically said we don’t pay them much because they don’t do it for the money I was floored. Such a cop-out.
    Anyway, I’m loving your discussions.

I would love to hear y'alls thoughts on: What would be a good schedule/routine for conditioning the body to be strong throughout the season while continuing dance practice?

Did you guys have as many guest choreographers visit during your rookie year?
Also, it sounds like you’re left guessing whether they like you are not. Are you given feedback about where you stand weekly or people are just cut without really knowing they aren’t doing well until the end?
