I've put 2 lipo and 2 dummies into my MA030EVO with the 8500KV and it just makes it so ridiculously quick that it probably out runs a 12000KV on nimh batteries. It is considerably lighter though, but I haven't dialed the car in as much as my MR03 so it's kinda slow in comparison on an RCP track. For drifting I just swap it out for a brushed motor. It'll definitely make it more agile but probably makes it more on edge and slightly harder to control.
@@BMR3 yea I have the ics. If you do use lipo batteries, be sure to turn the "LiFe save" setting on for the low voltage cutoff to work. I did also change the punch setting, and it does definitely makes the car more punchy and feel like it has more torque, but I kept it stock as it was already really fast. There's a max revolution setting for the motor too, which I set to the max. I'm not sure if that has affected anything as I don't have any equipment to test it.
Auranapse thank you for the tip about turning on the life safe option for the low voltage cut off! I know what you mean about not having testing equipment, it would be nice to have one of those Tamia 4wd speed checkers to get a better idea what’s going on with the small setting changes. I haven’t played with the punch settings yet, but I was thinking I would set the punch to the lowest setting so there is more low range control, & the car doesn’t jump/accelerate super quick. The car has more than enough torque with the 4100kv motor & more I’m concerned with having max throttle control.
@@BMR3 Yup I did try that as well and it does help a bit. I will set it low for drifting but nowadays I would use a spare brushed motor I have instead, as brushed has better throttle control, at the cost of efficiency and drag brake xD
Glad to hear your happy with the 4100, so far its perfect in my experience! The lower throttle rang really rounded this build out nicely. Im debating between the 4100 & 5600 for the next brushless build, but I think I'll stick with the 4100kv & experiment with more powerful batteries. Anyways, thank you for the support & stay safe out there!
Hey! I finally got my MA-020 Sports 94mm wheelbase and absolutely love it! You told me you'd get around 10-15 mins of drift-time, right? Well, I use rechargeable Varta 800 mah Batteries and easily get 50 mins. Plus: Recharging only takes less than 40 mins. Anyways, do think its worth getting a MA-030 as an upgrade? Is there any noticeable difference between those cars? If yes, is it hard to convert to 94 mm? Thanks in advance!
Holy shit! 50 mins of run time is absolutely nuts! The next step for me is to play with different batteries & I will put these on the list. I think the MA-030 is noticeable more agile then the 020, but not to a crazy degree. If you havent already upgraded your 020, I would recommend upgrading that before you get a 030. But if you have built out your 020 & are interested, I recommend picking one up. Kyosho should have a new batch of 030EVOs available mid may, but it may be delayed due to corona. The 94mm conversion is comically simple. You just unscrew the rear end & remove the 98mm center drive shaft, then slide the 94mm drive shaft in place & screw the rear end to the correct holes & its done. No need to change the gears since those are up front. One thing to note is the high mount of the 030 motor makes it incompatible with most shells, so do some research before buying. Stay safe man & let me know if you have any more questions.
@@BMR3 Thanks a lot! The next thing I want to do is get a metal motor mount for cooling-reasons and maybe a locked diff for the rear and a one way up front. Also stay safe. Corona time is perfect for drifting indoors, right? ;)
Bernd Weber Bahahaha yep staying home to drift & work on small projects has actually been nice for me this week! Good call on the metal motor mounts, it will reduce heat a bit & increase your overall motor longevity. If you haven’t already locked your rear diff, I highly highly recommend it, just diy with glue & it will work great. The front one way is not as noticeable & they are pretty expensive relative to other parts.
@@BMR3 Oh ok, thanks for the quick reply! I don't really want to glue it since I also plan on using it with grippy tires for racing so I want two diffs to choose for whatever I do Because changing it doesn't take that long, does it?
Bernd Weber Swapping our the rear diffs takes no time at all, you just remove the top 6 screws from the back end & pop off the top to gain access. Easy peasy. If you plan on doing some racing, you may want to consider a ball diff in the rear. That way you can tighten the diff for drifting & loosen it back up for grip/racing.
Only reason I’m using 94mm is so the chassis will match my r32 shells 😹 As a general rule of thumb, the longer the wheel base the more stable your car will be but I don’t care about that, I prefer to use the shells I enjoy. Yep DWS is better then the stock suspension, but it dosent matter as much as you would think for drifting. Racing is a different matter & that’s where a DWS really shines, but in my experience the stock suspension is fine for drifting.
Hey, really helpful video! I am looking into getting my first awd miniz for drifting, do you have a full parts list of all the upgrades i should start with? Also, any recommendations on where to order the front one way? I cannot find it in stock anywhere besides ebay :/ thanks!

You don’t necessarily need any upgrades out of the box, but that said, I really like a solid rear axle & stiffer rear springs. A front one way differential can help with drifting tighter/smaller circles but it’s not necessary.
@@mjbright9460 the position of the motor. The 020 has a midship side mounted motor where as the 030 has a forward high mounted motor. Basically it comes down to weight distribution.
