- Hotels in Lombok damaged by the strong earthquake plan to reopen as soon as possible to enable tourists to come back, and to help cushion the impact on the local economy. Many hotels in the west coast town of Senggigi popular among tourists, are closed for repairs after Sunday’s deadly earthquake. Channel NewsAsia's Saifulbahri Ismail reports.

Indonesia can't afford to be like Japan. They need hundred billion of dollars to build quake-resistant buildings, which they don't have. Lombok and Bali are done, its going to happen sooner or later. Indonesia need to focus to attract tourism on high hills, mountainous and all.

To be honest.. As a Lombok people who work in tourism I feel litle confuse after the earthquake. Hopefully everything will be fine soon.

Disappointing that they never re-opened! Got the insurance money and headed back from whence they came, no responsibility whatsoever. The place is a dump now
I am very sorry for all the locals. This should be a wake up call to the world. We depend too much on other people, especially tourism, and the absurd money investors/ owners make while others live hand to mouth for existence working for them. Always have a plan, unless they are still going to pay you in times of hardship, which never proves to happen much, if at all. Proper preparedness is a must for the globe in these times we are in, wish more people understood 'the season' we are in.
Time to go there. Must be very cheap.
