My brother and I made fish baskets when we were kids in the 70’. Caught lots of fish. A old man that my father knew told us how to build them. He said he used them during the depression to help feed his family.
I needed this video. Seeing people closer to home makes being stuck in San Francisco a little easier. This place is like another planet, a weird planet 😳
That was awesome . It’s always fun to check traps . The look on David’s face when thought trap was stolen . Oatmeal in a little mesh sack works and dog food , rabbit food . Saltines . Some places one might work and not work in another place. Always awesome videos Keep’em coming 👍👍👍
Keith, you two Crack me up brother!!!🤣🤣 You are right, come warmer weather that trap will be loaded down with bluegills. The fish traps are professionally designed great job my friend! Jay
I use those J clips on my DIY lanyard loops. Wrap weed eater string around a 3/8” diameter aluminum tube and boil it the the J clips on the loops and cheap and easy lanyards for my rods and rod holders on my yak. Make 2-3 traps like that and set them next to each other. Awesome video!
Go to a farm supply store and get you some cotton seed meal cake. Break off a piece and put in the bait compartment or just place in the trap. Add an aluminum pie plate in the trap. Fish are attracted to shiney objects. You'll catch a lot more fish.
Great video, Keith! I was just thinking if you put a couple lengths of pool noodle along the long sides at the top, the holding tank would float at the surface.
Yes in the dog food. My grandfather used dog food and it worked every time. Sometimes the traps were so full. My grandfather would make me go swimming because he threw the trap in with the rope.
Keith, this was one of your best, nice to see that I am not the only one who forgets where he put his trap, dropped the cord when throwing it out, getting my feet tangled up and falling on my ass ets. 😂
Can of sardines and not one crawdad the next day??? Have you tried chicken livers or hearts yet?? Pet shop shrimp works ok , I like cow heart ground up and two cups of baby Pablum and flavouring , mixed well, put in a nine by nine pan , cooked for forty five minutes in the oven at 250 until hardened , do not over cook it , then cut into one inch cubes for trap bait. Works to feed aquarium fish also.
Gonna share a little secret about perch traps that might increase your catch.Take some small brush limbs and weave it threw the holes or zip tie them to the trap all the way around it .Perch are drawn to this setup for curious reasons.
I watched another video where a guy tried 3 minnow traps with 3 different baits in the same pond. He used pork based hot dogs in 1 bread in another and wheat crackers in the last. The hotdogs had twice the number of minnows after 24 hours but the bread had more species of minnow. So I'd try hotdog.
Heck yeah that trap is awesome, I love how you made the entrance seem so easy. Great video as always Brother, Thanks for sharing. Thanks for all you do Keith, This is by far the Best RUclips channel out there. I can't wait until the next build.
A Quartered up raw potato works best for Bream bait. We dont even use the bait box. We just throw a hand full of potatoes into the bottom of the traps every other day and add as needed. In the spring we put out at least 8 traps and run them all spring for Flathead and Blues and ocassional eating. These traps are Texas legal traps and we have caught upwards to 80 baits at a time in our Traps In lakes and ponds. I have built several of the Clover leaf traps and they work well. Texas legal traps are 3'X3'x1' with the openings at 1'''X3'''
Wowww how nice to see some days ago of fishing, instead of months & years, even tho you guys are enjoying the traps, it’s still fun to watch thanks for sharing, I made a trap like last year, but I made mine for cat fish which I did catch some, but mine was not as perfect as y’all’s, but you did make it very simple, y’all be safe & continue to enjoy God creations,✌️

I've made a similar live well cage for my crayfish to purge them. Works great to keeping them alive and in the same water where they were caught. Also used J clips on my traps. Fantastic to use just takes time and fiddly.
For fishbox I use a 55gal plastic barrel. I drilled 1" holes all over it. Then cut a square hole in the top. I used some door hinges to reattach the cut out as a door. I keep bluegill in there until I bait up. Then use a couple 5gallon buckets with holes to hang over the side while baiting up.
A little something we use for chum and traps so it doesn't float out, is pantyhose! They work amazing! Try it in another video brother. Much love from Florida!
Great video! It cracked me up when the rope got away from you. Here's a suggestion for your live box... You could zip tie some pool noodles to the top edges of the live box and it would float with the opening at water level.
Hey fishin n stuff...I recently discovered an awesome dirt bike hack, and it works for boat motors too,and it's awesome 😎, All ya gotta do is get a cheap set of standard size steel guitar strings Wich work AWESOME to clean carburetor jets out with,or just wait till your kids play and break some,,you could even use them to clean your sinkers holes out with the different size steel strings,
Also, guitar strings are AWESOME for making dragging weight sinkers,I took your hacks and made my own with guitar strings, and they are dirt cheap too,,just saying
I just watched a couple of your videos. Please don't take me wrong, because I loved the Real McCoys Walter Brennan. You remind me Walter. You are a Real McCoy. Thanks so much!
Hey, listen to this old country boy. If you want to catch them, use lite bread and green onion stems as an attractive. It will full up a minnow trap anywhere they are. I would think it will do the same thing for bluegill
The Sardines are great if you smash them up, pack into a small plastic cup, usually I put two tins to a cup, but the more the merrier. Put a small eyelet hook with a long shank into the middle, place in the freezer over night and you got a fishy oily catching popsicle. In clear water and or the ocean you can watch the fish just tear the popsicle apart. Oh pop the cup off in the boat and I wrap a bit of cellophane over the cup top to reduce smell in the cooler.
well with me done with watching ALL your videos on your channel im impressed by this trap one of the best baits I've used up north where we live for the cats is hotdogs never fails and they love em
Great video! I struggle with catching bream pre-catfish time. The kids love the cow sounds and the talking bait. Put some more out please... And catching shad if possible.
You need to put the bait box on the bottom and not make it as tall as the sides because the perch will just eat it out of the top. And make it out of 1/4” hardware cloth. Best bait is dried cat food.
Yeah there they are your 5 pets come right with you up to the dock now that's funny because I went back an forth an I do think they are following you around the pound funny keep it up my friend
Try dry cat and dog food in your fish trap. It has always been successful for me for baiting fish traps. I also use it for baiting a fishing hole. I put the dry cat or dog in a mesh bag similar to a onion or to red mesh orange bags and drop in down into the water on a rope. If in a boat I use a marker body then and then fish all around the bag of food. As the dry food breaks down in the bag . Ever once in a while lift the bag in several jerking motions allow some of the food to disperse in the water like fish chum bag. Sometimes I do a bag in an area I want to fish the day before and fish over the area the next day. You can add a can or two of sardines to get a oil slick to permeate the water surrounding the dry food. I like to poke holes in the can with an ice pick to make it last long time while the bait mesh bag. Then everythime you disturb the bag or a fish disturbs the bag it releases more oils out of the sardine can. I have also use canned herring and mackerel. Works good in fresh water and saltwater both. It makes for a great chum line drifting in the current.
I use bread to catch bluegills in the summer. I lower down off a walking bridge and the attack it the bread like piranhas. When the bread disappears I know one has it in his mouth so I set the hook. Caught 40 bluegill in less than an hour last summer using this technique. It works!!!
Bread and hotdogs all chopped up real nice if my preferred bluegill bait for traps ! The bread attracts them and the hot dogs fall to the bottom and force them into the traps . The bread is often time picked away from the exterior !
"Hey, I got the rope." Guess that's like sayin "here, hold my beer". About same results. Anyway, it's a great video and a great trap. Glad you tried different baits. It looks like you got your choice. I bet that things gonna be loaded in warmer weather. As crazy as the weather is this year, that could be next week or middle of July. Keep up great work brother. God bless ya'll and have a blessed day my friend.
Bread and put some whole corn wrapped up in your bread and smashed it in just crumble the bread up in with the corn and put the corn in with it That's how we do in East Texas
Nice video BRO 🎣 👍. You could also make a Keep net, what us English Matchman angelers use. Lighter in weight, & comperres flat . As it made out of. A couple of steel hopes & 1/4 Inc soft mesh , like you find in a gardening store. All depends on , the length & diameter what you prefer.
you should try a piece of flat iron top clamped to the top of wire over edge of table and bend wire down then you will only cut once you will only have one seam to clip then you will only add top & bottom will be more rigid
Next time you use sardines mix the whole can in a mix of flour and cornmeal and make a ball out of it. It'll last a while and release that oil slowly over a day or so. Also buy a plastic shower loofa and find the string they tied it together with and cut it. You will be able to stretch it out to about 20 feet of seamless netting to make bait bags out of.
On Your Fish Live Box, Tie-Wrap Some Large Pole Noodles Along The Inside Top Of The Wire Box, See If It Floats Next To Your Boat Or The Bank. That Way You Won't Have To Pull It Back Up Each Time You Need Bait, Or Loose It's Rope When You Put It Back In The Water 🙂
Well I watched the video you made on catching bait fish , but the overall best bait fish bait that I have ever used is dry pellet dog food that is big enough that it won't pass thru the holes in your trap when it's dry ,but when you load your bait trap bait holder part you have to fill it up completely full of the dog food pellets so that as it sits in the Water it will expand and soften and pass thru the bait holder and become accessible to the fish which usually creates a feeding frenzy.
My son forgot to tie off the anchor once and he chunked it over the side and there went the rope with it! And yes, I remind him of that every chance I get! Oh yeah, nice bream trap, for sure!
I found a very fast way to catch bluegills for bait. Use a 7' long ultralight (UL) rod, an UL reel with 2-4 lb test fluorocarbon, and a mini trout magnet (1/200 oz) jig, with a split tail grub (mini). Instead of casting, pull out 7' of line and flip the jig out into the water. Bluegills will come from all over to attack that jig. My personal best is 51 bluegills in one hour. I supply all the catfisherman at the local public fishing lake with bluegills.
I used to canned herring for my umbrella net. I’d open the can just a little and tie it onto the net using the ring. Also you can put a long funnel on the keep box and it basically becomes a keep net
Try pieces of onion in your fish trap. I thought it was crazy but the old timers around me all use onion. Their traps are always full when I see them check them at the lake.
And on your holding box you can use your favorite thing in your world, put pool noodles around the top so it doesn’t get down in the low oxygen layer of the pond.
The very best thing to use is a couple white Styrofoam cups or a Styrofoam worm box. The white color draws them in. It's all I use and catch plenty perch for trotlines
Well I think it's the same 4 or 5 an they are watching you all around that an they know you two are coming to feed them an that funny right there you two have got 4 pet fish I think they are watching you because it's the same 4 or 5 an it's so funny but I do think they are just going with you around to the feeder that's funny but it's might just be me or there only 4 in the whole pond lol thank you two for all the laughs
I made a 3/4 pvc pipe frame with wire wrapped around it for a fish holding box. I made it large enough where the fish wouldn't get stressed out like in a standard fish basket. My buddy saw it and said "that isn't a fish basket, its a shark cage". Shows what he knows, Chickamauga Lake doesn't have sharks. lol
Try oatmeal + sardines or canned mackerel or even bluegill meat with some cooking oil. Smash the fish first then add a tablespoon or two of the oil. Add oatmeal till it forms a ball.
I was going to suggest draining the lake to find it. Glad I didn't, sure would be funny seeing you two out there with 5 gallon buckets though. I would have helped. Lol. Thanks for the video. Hey, where's that smart aleck fishing lure? He cracks me up. Stay safe.

You finally got some good fish
I made a 3/4 pvc pipe frame with wire wrapped around it for a fish holding box. I made it large enough where the fish wouldn't get stressed out like in a standard fish basket. My buddy saw it and said "that isn't a fish basket, its a shark cage". Shows what he knows, Chickamauga Lake doesn't have sharks. lol
Lol
You could zip-tie pool noodles around the fishkeeper for easier access.
Nice buddy i have my own pond full of catfish and bluegills n i always have trouble catching bluegill thanks for sharing
You won't have trouble any more lol . It actually works good .we dimmed the video in winter . And it works really good
@@FishinNStuff alright I'll give it a shot thanks
Make some cornbread with sour cream. If you don't eat it all, it will do a TON better than white bread.
I am a Canadian, you make me laugh some much
Thank you for watching
You should put pool noodles on the top the fish holder so it could be easier to store them
I always use canned tuna fish punch some small holes in the can and put it in trap and you will be happy with the results..
Try oatmeal + sardines or canned mackerel or even bluegill meat with some cooking oil. Smash the fish first then add a tablespoon or two of the oil. Add oatmeal till it forms a ball.
I will , thank you
Nice love that.
That was a fun video!
I was going to suggest draining the lake to find it. Glad I didn't, sure would be funny seeing you two out there with 5 gallon buckets though. I would have helped. Lol. Thanks for the video. Hey, where's that smart aleck fishing lure? He cracks me up. Stay safe.
That would have been funny lol
