I love the stars n stripes on the Chevy body
I really think it goes well with the body shape. It was a little tricky tho 😆😂😂
Beautiful story, with a tragic ending! I hope the old Clod gets its revival in due time, whoever gets to own it!
I'm loving the moral of this story, I have an example to share that is a bit similar: Recently I had been scoping the Black Friday deals for a new cheap RC car, but I found nothing worthwhile, but instead I found an old Kyosho buggy I got for a bargain, and I can now begin to restore next spring, already looking forward to it, way better value than any RTR I could buy from China, ha ha!
And a great paint job on the old Clod, too!
Banggood stuff is ok, but the price is creeping up so they are not that much cheaper than the big brand counterparts. There is something inherently cool about retro, it’s just you need to treat these things a little more carefully. I’m glad you liked the paint job, though go knows what it will look like in its new life! 😆👍👍
Hey that was rather sad at the end. I think I'd have added modern components until it didn't break anymore or was Triggers broom. I'm not too fussed about keeping them vintage but I know some people are. At least you had fun with it and hopefully got a good price. Great vid as ever. Best wishes guys 😁👍
I think we had all we could from it. I’m a fan of aluminium parts, but I think as you said it would have been triggers broom in the end, so we let it go, it went for what we thought and reinvested. The circle of life 🦁😂
Great stomping ground for a clod fella!
Fun run mate....well for a while at least😬!
I feel your pain regarding the vintage plastics.....
I fully restored my 88 pumpkin a few years back, put a lot of time, cash, and effort into it. Unfortunately, over its first few runs nearly every plastic part that hadn't been replaced ended up disintegrating! 😢
I also done a comprehensive full nut and bold restoration on a 959 and celica grb, using extremely rare/expensive new old stock components.... these never got run and stayed on display, but even these are starting to show hairline cracks in the usual trouble spots-
Just from sitting on the shelf!
So, now I still restore vintage models which stay as shelf queens, and I buy re re's as runners.... this method works extremely well!
Speaking of that, I've still got my super clod to build over the winter.... but WTF were tamiya thinking with the decals on the super clod?!! 🙄
Managed to source an original clod Decal set to compliment the new blue colour body which I love-
should look sweet!
Love what you done with the body shell, looks superb matey..... oh well, perhaps sell the clod and buy another trusty lunchie instead, I know you have a special relationship with those! 🤣 😂
Cheers for the great content and humour as always fella! 👍 👍 👍
The video was meant to be longer but when it made that noise all recording had to stop. This was from a few models we bought that had been gathering dust in someone’s attic for the last 15+ years. It was a fun project but we didn’t make it lose anything from it. The Clod has been sold and reinvested back in the fleet, so it will always be around in spirit. It’s a great winter build plan you have there, I’m going to try and get my Wild One built over Xmas, if I get time. Thanks for watching as ever 👍
@@RCsoandso
Yes mate, I watched the previous videos on it.... made for some great content anyway!
Sadly, that's one of those projects that will become a bottomless money pit I'm afraid.
Wild one sounds awesome fella ... some great videos out there of the blockhead edition from all the usual suspects, love the way its front wheels are always off the ground!
You might enjoy our 'tamiya tag, two lunchies and a beetle' video
@Green Hawks RC mate.... we ended up with a bit more damage than when your lunchies played tag lol.... It was more like British bulldog!
But, all good fun..... and as you say "Tamiya tough"!!! 😂🤣 👍 👍 👍
Hi there, all was going so well, Autumn leaves, great location and a drive in the countryside, then, looks like a case of confidence, perhaps over confidence, and the inevitable tumble. It was going to be one tumble too many for the poor vintage clod. Question is, will RC So and So have to resort to more modern parts to get the Cold back up and running again…..? Take care and best wishes to you all 😉😊
It was going well and it was fun while it lasted. To answer the question though, if new parts are to be fitted, that’s a decision for the new owner 😱👍
Sorry for the loss but at least you had one good last outing with it! On to bigger(or smaller) things!!! I hate that sound of snapping plastic, that sound has ruined a lot of fun over the years!! LOL
Yeah it echoed through the area, and startled the odd duck 🦆 Also to say I’ve revived the ‘Merch’ thank you very much, I’ll be sending some this week to you as long as they are not on strike 🙄👍
Sorry to hear the clod buster didn’t survive the roll over .
It was a sickening snapping noise 🤮😆👍
It’s a shame about the clod but the old vintage plastics just can’t take a pounding, it would be nice to get a new clod just to see how it handles compared to a vintage one. In Rcsoandso’s experience all the vintage we have bought have all broke in some way and have needed repair.
I blame the technical department 😆😂👍
It was a beauty and had a good run. Went out having a good time. The sound of that final impact is cringeworthy.
Yes it definitely went out with a bang 💥😬😂👍
Oh, maybe youtube had removed my comment, because I putted in a complete link. Sorry.
So here's the short version, again. Nice video, sorry for the damage. Maybe you'll find the parts at tamico. They have a big spare-parts department.
As long you don't need the marked old parts it's alright to use new ones without loosing the vintage touch😉
I’d agree, but we spent ages on this project, and if we are honest, when you start replacing parts it has a knock on effect that means you have to replace other parts and suddenly it becomes a financial black hole. Hopefully the new owners have plans for it and it will live on, but I think we had all we could from the model 👍
Noice.!
Subbed & liked & best wishes from Scotland.!
Fantastic thank you very much, it’s really appreciated and glad you enjoyed. We may have to do some north of the border videos soon 🏴👍
Love the '84 USA look :) Sucks that you broke some components. One of the biggest knocks on Tamiya, especially these old kits, was the use of that cheap brittle ABS plastics.
Thank you, the look was good, but yes the plastic just degraded over time, and brittle plastic does not seem to enjoy impact damage 😆😂👍
@@RCsoandso yeah that's such s bummer
OH! That Paint!! 😎👌👏👏👏👏👏
Sad ending indeed, but went out in a blaze of Glory. I haven't had my 87 Clod for many years... but I've never been a purist. I have yet to build a Tamiya kit, bog standard, in my 41 years in the Hobby. That makes some people cringe, but that's my enjoyment of the Hobby.
Currently I'm building a Super Clod (I'm not cool enough to have a Grey Clod). That and I'm back to literally dirt poor. 😭 But when I bought the kit, I also got 8 110mm Oil Shocks, Aluminiuminium Suspension bits, and Servo-on-Axle Kits, amongst other goodies from JConcepts!
Not doing a competition Truuuuck, just one that will be less quirky and more durable years later.
That CRUNCH on rollover was definitely cringe worthy and sad. 😞 Maybe your Team could also build a better Clodbuster, retaining its charm of course.
I think my Terra Scorcher is the only box art model I have, but I’m planning on changing that soon. With the current economic downturn it is making justifying new kits harder, well at least that’s what Mrs RC So & So keeps saying 😂 not sure if we will have a Clod again for a while but it was fun while we had it, and I’m sure it’ll be replaced with something cool 😎👍
@@RCsoandso Come to think about it, I built a Box Art Grasshopper II for my Grandson...
Did HAVE to modify the Suspension a bit. I have a reputation to uphold!! 😁
I'm certain you will have something awesome 👌
I am beyond grateful that I bought a bunch of Kits 15 months ago. Absolutely couldn't do it now, especially with the oppressive Biden Recession, that he STILL blames on Putin! But that's another HUGE can of worms.
Nice work. Sorry for the clod's fate.
Thank you, I guess it’s part of running these older models that ‘accidents’ happen 👍
🥲RIP CLOD
Gone but not forgotten, bet the postman has a hernia now though 😂👍
Poor Clod, awesome video, maybe you can Upgrade with on the axle steering which doesnt need the factory steering bits, and a rear lockout to keep the rears straight? It does hurt the turning radius though
I’m glad you like it, and they are really good tips…we will have to pass them
On to the new owners 😆😂👍
And they replaced it with a Losi LMT!!! Or maybe you guys should look into getting a Lunchbox?
What the hell is a Losi, sounds suspect to me. I’ve heard some good things about Lunchboxes, I might see if I can find some cool and entertaining videos featuring them on the RUclipss 😆😂👍
@@RCsoandso 😂
@@RCsoandso I like reading that in a Hank Hill voice in my head
