As an American I find using a scale is SO much easier for most things. I got one for $10 years ago for baking and use it all the time. Don’t go to all the trouble to convert stuff, volumetric measurements are so imprecise anyway!
Also, it would be great if you showed some of your favorite combinations of sandwiches based on these items that you prepared. I think it would be very helpful, especially to new vegans! Thanks for all your hard work!
American here: metric is better for recipes (and probably most other things as well). Help us get one step closer to abandoning this Imperial madness by not wasting your time converting. :)
Love the reply fellow American! Don't bother, it takes .5 seconds to hit the scale to the other side or figure it out on your own and I can't wait until we go metric
Sorry, although I'd love to agree, I don't. I googled conversion from gram to cup and got 3 different measurements from 3 different sites. Plus my scales gave me a completely different amount too set at grams. So please, give me the conversion amount.
I am a 59-year-old American and remember in elementary and junior high, we had to learn the metric system because the US was supposedly going to adopt it by some date and it never happened! I appreciate your intention to convert for us Yanks! My family and I went on a dream trip to Ireland in 2017, my grandma was born there, near Cobh. Anyway, my daughter is vegan and I'm vegetarian, but my husband and son are carnivores, sigh. We decided we had to go to your store and cafe in Greystones and we got lost so many times but got there and had lunch and it was so wonderful! Bought your cookbook, love it, your staff was lovely and even my husband and son loved their vegetarian fare! Rock on, twin brothers!
Could you guys make some recipes on good ways to use silverbeet? It always looks so green and luscious in the supermarket...but I don't know many good recipes for how to use it!
Canadian here. We use a mashup of metric for some things and imperial for others. We don't tend to do anything by weights when it comes to cooking, so recipes that list things in grams can be hard to follow. We use volume measures like cups, tablespoons and teaspoons or ml for cooking measurements. And yes, would love to see you publish your recipes using volume measurements!
My son is a physicist now, but he switched all our devices to metric when he was in high school. So the recipe conversion is not all that hard for me. Plus, I have a food scale I can use when needed. But making the conversion might make your recipes more accessible and less intimidating to Americans who have had no experience with the metric system. Thanks for all videos! I found your channel a few years back and it was the both of you and your recipes that got all my sons more interested in vegan cooking. :)
American here, thanks for all the vids. I personally prefer the weight based measurements for most things but it is helpful sometimes! Google has converters for most things but realize that volume is always less predictable than weight!
One may also make a pickled "assorti" - mixture of different veggies: miniplumtomatoes, little crispy cucumbers, garlic, red/yellow bellpeppers, - yummy!
Thank you so much for all the wonderful recipes!! They look so doable. Since the supermarkets here in Tokyo are super-crowded, I have refrained from going to the supermarkets too much. These would be perfect food to keep in the fridge, especially at these times.
Oh also, great idea about the pickled onions!!! I usually boil some beets - peel & slice them and add sliced red onion and do just what you did - half vinegar half water. Delish. Never thought of doing just onions - thanks.
I'm honestly so happy that you use the metric system. it's much more precise and I tend to avoid channels who use the cups and all that cos I don't want to make my cooking more time consuming by converting 💚 I'm still confused when using quarters or teaspoons/tablespoons :))
I am from Germany so I don't use the imperial system, but I know when I see recipes using the imperial system it's honestly just a reason for me not to do them 😂. So I would love to see both systems so that everyone is inspired to make your awesome recipes! I love Hummus. My favourite one is where I make a basic Hummus (oil free though) and add some steamed broccoli. I love broccoli and the flavours go sooo well together. And it has a lovely green colour. I love it! Thank you for showing everyone how easy it is to make Hummus, it inspired me to make my own, whereas before I bought spreads in the store. Making it yourself is just so much cheaper, much more delicious and much more fun! 😄 Cheers!
One of the reasons I love your chanel is that the recipes always work is because you use the metric scale. Using cups does not work as well Ps- thanks for all the work you do and recipes you share. As a mother of a fussy teen, you recipes have been very successful and many I make again and again . Where do you get that big bottle of maple please? Ta
I'm way too old to try to figure it out so thank you for thinking about us! I have always wondered how we were on a different system. I kinda eyeball the measurements.
Thank you guys! This is awesome and won't get boring for quite some time! Looks so delicious! In fact, I stopped the video and made the onions right away... Soon I'll make the rest! I'm new to preparing every meal of the day myself and also want to do it vegan and wheat free. You do help me a lot! All the best from Munich
btw in a video of a very nice German youtuber she proposed the idea of making a hummus from quinoa, for the people who can't or don't want to eat chickpeas... ;)
I just happen to be eating lunch while watching your video. Thank you for the inspiration in these recipes as I sit here eating the same salad I've eaten this past week. It's time to bring on some excitement at lunch. Thank you for the amazing ideas. Will definitely be marinating onions & making hummus (beans already soaking) YAY!
I'm American and it isn't a big deal to convert metric myself. I like the weights because it seems more accurate. But I know cooks here who would love you for it!
I agree, if you just add the imperial measurements in the description that would be fantastic. If I don't know the measurements off the top of my head I just google it, which is super easy. Love the lunch ideas guys! You have been making the days brighter in our household!
Very useful video. I'm deffinately going to do some of these. I always make my own version of hummus . I use seseme and sunflower seed plus flax and Chia . I put handfuls of parsley and onion and garlic powder and a whole lemon without skin. I make vinegar from the skins. I use as a spread. I'll make the onion vinegar and the mushrooms and the vegs mix. Looks great. Thanks again. I'm happy with cups or imperial measurements.mostly I use my eye to measure. Cups would be handy for baking tho
American here... and yea, when you say how much in metric I have to pop online and look up how much that is. Funny story... In school they tried to teach us the metric system and I remember SO CLEARLY saying - we'll never switch, I don't have to learn that. But then (many years later) I married my second husband and moved to Singapore to live for a few years... I was so embarrassed in the store when I would have to order food and didn't have a clue how to ask for the amount I wanted... I use a lot of your recipes (the tikka masala sauce I make MOST OF ALL! ) Thank you... I'm ok with converting it myself. Maybe eventually I'll actually remember the conversion.
I am American as well! 😁 However, I tend to eyeball everything, so your recipes have been pretty simple for me to judge amounts. ☺️ But for those who haven’t been cooking from scratch for a while, I’d say go for it!! ❤️🙌
I'm an American, and while I do think that the Imperial system is dumb & our country should switch to the metric system, I don't have a kitchen scale & most Americans don't have kitchen scales either. It would be greatly appreciated if you offered your recipes in the Imperial system as well as the metric system. :) I know I've seen some blogs before where they have a button at the bottom of their post that converts the measures into the other system they don't normally use. Not sure what the software is though.
Yum, thank you! I’m not great at exact measurements when cooking, so handfuls, cups, spoons and ‘pinches’ work for me! There are probably digital scales available that have both imperial and metric weights. Or use an online conversion chart?
Yes please do convert the recipes . I live in Canada , love your videos but it does take extra time to convert most of your measurements to metric. Thanks for taking the time to make such delicious recipes!!
Love your recipes. I am Canadian and would love it if you used the imperial measurements for your recipes. I convert them myself each time, and it is time consuming.
I am an American and I have a conversion chart in my kitchen as I am trying to learn to convert the measurements. I think your time would be better spent on other things. :)
Great tips ,Just my style.....Prep/plan in advance then if a crisis occurs you're on top of it all......For me this Goes back to when I was out at work all day every day !!!!
Yes please convert to imperial. Canada here. I try to convert and often the receipt doesn’t turn out so I don’t make your recipes as much as I would like.
As an American myself I think we should convert to metric. But I know for sure it will be greatly appreciated if you guys do the extra work for us 😊 Thanks for the sandwich ideas!
Hi love your videos am not a vegan i just use your recipes to introduce more vegetables into my meals going to order one of your books witch one is your favourite
Can you do a video on suggestions for what you can put in sandwiches. I never really have sandwiches but I would have like avocado and chickpeas, or toasted bean sandwich but I never know what Else to have on it
Hi about the measurements I am a Brit but convert all Recipes to the American cup and spoon system. It is so easy to cook this way. Does adding another system complicate things more? Sorry
I was wondering are going to try doing the wild garlic seeds in malt vinegar from when you had JP McMahon on a few months ago. Also I would love a recipe for pistachio ice cream, would I soak the pistachios maybe with cashew nuts and mix bananas plus maple syrup.

same for me - rather measure grams
Also, it would be great if you showed some of your favorite combinations of sandwiches based on these items that you prepared. I think it would be very helpful, especially to new vegans! Thanks for all your hard work!
I second it!
I am American and I learned how to convert for the sole purpose of cooking your recipes from this channel lol.
Oh wow we're honoured! Thanks a mill Reva!
American here: metric is better for recipes (and probably most other things as well). Help us get one step closer to abandoning this Imperial madness by not wasting your time converting. :)
As a cook, I agree with you, but they’ll never abandon it. You know how Americans are.
Signed,
An American.
100 agree! I don't mind doing the conversions myself as it helps me be a step closer to learning the metric system.
@@cpmondello yup! That's exactly what I do. It doesn't take but a few seconds. :)
Love the reply fellow American! Don't bother, it takes .5 seconds to hit the scale to the other side or figure it out on your own and I can't wait until we go metric

Love the look of those - they would also make great toppings for a salad or baked potato if you want a change from a sandwich.
Yes! on the conversion. Thank you!!
Pickled onions! Yes! Love this video! Thank you heaps!
For accessibility, it would be great to have both measurements listed. Thank you for thinking of it!
No worries Mia! Thanks a mill for watching.
Please use the metric system. Americans just have to learn ;).
Alternativly you can put the recipe in the description with both metric and imperial
Hahah love it!!
Lol. You want US to learn something? You are the one who has to change for US. LoL. Joking.
I'm American... stick with the metric! So much easier to use.

Canada uses the metric system ! :) But oddly enough many of our recipes still use the "old " cups system!!
Interesting! I guess its a slow changeover
@@thehappypear we switch to metric around 1980 or some where there!!! Lol

Loved this! I always have a jar of homemade pickled red onion and red cabbage ready to go in my fridge! Transforms so many different meals 😍
Fair play Kimberly! They really do, you get a lot longer out of your veg that way too.
