I agree with your vibrato comment. Most of Joan;s other vocalists (all great) have a non-vibrato Astrud Gilberto sound.

In previous times when Alba sang you could always she that she was less confident even though she did well. On this one right before the end, after she finishes putting the mic back, she glances to the camera with confident eyes that know she just knocked it out of the park. So great to see. Well done, Alba! And wonderful solo by maestro Monne, too.
YESSS! Previously Alba Esteban sang as a talented girl, but here she sings as a grown up attractive woman with full of confidence! I think she found her real singing style, she can make it big following this route!
I always thought she was quiet and timid, but now!!! What a range! She could belt out any jazz standard she wanted.

@@britdude4508 I'm amazed how Joan Chamorro can help all these youngsters to find their own best playing and singing styles. There are (and were) a number of excellent girl singers in SAJB, and all of them have their own distinct singing styles! They show a fantastic variety and can sing together very nicely or in solo too. With this performance Alba Esteban proved that she has everything needed in order to became jazz singer who can draw many people to her concerts! (I'm not saying that she should stop playing on sax, because she's very good at it and the more skills are the better.)
Beside her, I'm hoping that Paula Berzal, somehow, will going to attend the band again, at least for a while to make her own CD, because she was not only a very good trombone player, but an exciting singer with distinct and very enjoyable style! we don't see Alba performing as a soloist often enough. She's always very strong in the horn section but she can also sing very well and is very comfortable with jazzy fluctuations. cheers Alba

To me, she has the nicest voice of all of Joan's proteges. Just the right amount of vibrato - which the others don't seem to have.

The hairs on my arms stood up at 1:32. Extraordinary sound! I love the sound she gets from her sax. Typically, the tone of a bari has a scratchy aspect to it (listen to Harry Carney or Gerry Mulligan, e.g.) but, for some reason, her sound is as smooth as velvet.

Oh, my goodness! I listened to a late night West Coast US radio talk show hosted by a woman whose name I can't remember when I was in high school. THIS WAS HER THEME SONG. Alba's version is so enjoyable--she could be on the radio!!!! Love the tune. Blows me away to see and hear it here. Alba is probably much too busy for even an occasional man, right? Thanks much.
