Music from a time when I wasn't even born. And I'm not the
youngest. And yet the interpretations of the young and professional musicians
around Joan Chamorro radiate a topicality, as if they had only just been
written for her. If you then listen to one of the originals, they sound more
like yesterday. That's what makes these talented young people so magical. They
make old things young again. Even the audience sometimes ;-) Thank you

Joan surely has overcome the gap between old and new. And he has made old new again. Because jazz never dies.
You can’t learn jazz just by listening. It has to be handed down from the older to the younger. Same as classical really - good teachers and mentors are required.
@@brucekuehn4031 Nor can you learn jazz in a conservatory. You have to have a special gift for it.
@@paulparoma I don't know. Joan has made so many of these youngsters into jazz musicians at various levels. If you mean the ability to solo fluently, I'm sure that is quite rare. But don't you think jazz includes a wider range of talent than just improvising?

Alba Armengou nails this performance of one of my top ten jazz pieces. Her cute accent only adds to the charm of this fine songstress. Ignasi Terraza plays like he has three hands, so wonderful. Joan Mar Sauqué's trumpet solo was nothing short of Davis!!! Alba just ended the song as I am writing and she hits that high note that made the hair on the back of my neck tingle with delight. The trombone work by John Aldred is priceless. I find it hard to comprehend the sheer avalanche of talent that is flowing out of Spain due to Joan Chimarro's work. I am lost for words really.
Great! I love John Allred's trombone solo, especially his brief opening quote from 'Topsy Part 2' . I loved all the solos, the band, and of course Alba. But what I love best is the way everyone in the band listens and attends to the soloists. No wonder they develop so quickly. Well done all!

Ignasi is two persons - his left hand and his right hand, unbelievable, brillant!
He must be ambidexterous like Erroll Garner and other brilliant jazz pianists
Independent hands, that's what pianists (big and small) are taught from the start - Ignasi masters it perfectly!

It is great to see and listen to a band of such talented musicians young lady giving an assured reading of such a mature song as this one. Her sophistication is pure joy.
In the middle of concerts, recording sessions, trips to many countries, create new talents each month and repertoire for trios, quartets, quintets, or the band... the teachers and coaches team must be also credited for their fabulous job... and the "older" young musicians, parents, friends helping as auxiliary teachers... What a new talent factory !

When you think you heard the best of the Sant Andreu jazz Band, you stumble upon another gem. This is truly amazing! WOW! Alba Armengou keeps getting better and better. Ignasi Terraza on piano is always great. And, wait, who's that guy on the trombone... Joan Allred... Wow! The whole band swings!
i remember the original of this with Ann Richards and Stan Kenton - it took me many years to get hold of that recording. I love this version from the incredible talent of Barcelona. As a drummer of many years standing, I would like to mention the girl in this band - she really knows how to swing, and her feel for the music is wonderful to hear. Just brilliant!
That's Abril Sauri on drums -- and I agree with you, she's long been one of my favorites. Sometimes (not often) she sings as she drums, and does a great job!

When it's audio only, of course it's great, but they're so damn good you can forget these are mostly teenagers - they sound like a pro band anywhere in the world!

What a simply, natural beauty Alba has, nice presentation from this talented young lady. Band and all solos great in this but- John on the trumbon just grabbed me as he entered. My favorite instrument so, I'm a bit prejudiced for it.

I've been waiting a long time for this video -- it's my favorite song on Alba's CD, I just love it! Not only does she kill it vocally, but every single one of the solos is great -- and there are lots of them! And on top of all that, the band as an ensemble just sounds so tight and in sync -- they're firing on all cylinders! Thanks and congrats Joan, this is a keeper for sure! (PS, kudos to Abril for providing a great rhythm base for all of them to build on)

Superb! Alba fantastic as usual and Ignasi, John, Joan etc with brilliant solos. I love the regular, faithful input from others such as Josep, Alba Esteban, Abril, Rita and of course Joan with his bass making it all work so harmoniously 🥰
John Allred adds well to this performance, as melodious and clear as Alba. Ignasi (of course), Marçal, more playful but very mature, and Joan Mar complete the joy of the listener! Plus, another bright finale by Alba!
