Felicitaciones.
I'm "only" 77, but agree - I had the good fortune to be playing this kind of music (not this well of course) back in the 50s. Unfortunately I was not good enough to make a career of it.
In my 60 years of musical performance, teaching and listening I have never witnessed any performance from any person that there was a clearer "life" moment for an individual as with Alba Armengou's performance of Triste. The lighting, the intonations, the blends, the gentle and nuanced movement through the song, the truly innocence of expressions by Alba was an encapsulation of a truly life moment for her. That is not to take away from any of the other brilliant musicians, however, this song, this coming together of so many naturally beautiful elements of artistic expression elevated this young women's innocent and unaffected angelic voice and song to the purest of eternal beauty. Alma, you should treasure these most magical few moments as the highest level of the wonderment of human beings. Amazing, simply unforgettable.
Gerald, it is clear you took time with your comments which perfectly embody my feelings and sentiments. Just a wonderfully beautiful and moving piece; a pure expression of life, love and emotion; teh best of humanity. Thanks for taking the time.
This is Alba at her best. and she was just 15 when this was shot. And the back up by Andrea, Rita and Elia is fantastic. What great things Joan Chamorro has done with these young people!
I have played this video over and over again. Such a beautiful song. Hard to describe how good the performance is. The vocal is so great, the perfect vocal parallel of a Stan Getz performance. I love the vocal harmonies and the guitar introduction is beautiful. I also love the tenor solo, perfect for the setting. 6.8 million views is testament to how amazing this performance is. Thank you Alba and everyone else involved. Sensational!
Best version to me , too!! The super sweet harmonies with little surprises all over, the two saxes playing in two almost opposite styles, the piano player doing both that and in his solo preempting the upcoming chords with some of the same surprising results. And the vocal is as sweet as bossa nova itself. It is charming to see, how the lowest note has been worked on with some attention to projection. And likewise charming that Alba is directing the last beat, just like the great bass player is brilliantly but discretely directing the rest: Leave it to the vocalist to play her finish! And of course the groove is true to the sweet bossa - I don't wanna say tradition, 'cause it's more like a groove. Just like if you change salsa, it's not salsa. It's a feeling. Everyone is playing so deliciously!
Without undermining all of Alba Armengou's jubilation, we must, above all, thank Antônio Carlos Jobin, both for the lyrics and the wonderful melody of this BOSSA NOVA, which praises the BRAZILIAN people.
One of the best covers of "Triste" in the last 25 years! Alba Armengou nails the vocal. Great arrangement, amazing vocal harmonies, and excellent ensemble play. No wonder it has over 5 million views, muchas gracias Professor Chamorro!
I can't describe the feeling of satisfaction I have when I see the younger generation carrying on music traditions and adding their own contributions to it, part of a long, unbroken chain of musical beauty.

Jim Griffin thanks for the link with these wonderful stories of Joao. What an extrordinary human being. He did indeed hypnotize his listeners, there is simply something mezmerizing in bossa, and the youngsters in this video nailed this emotion completely!

She has probably the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. I showed my mom and both her and I are so in love with the way she sings. She has such a silky sultry voice
Astrud recently passed and she is smiling up there. These youngsters will certainly keep this bossa nova alive and well. Astrud, Stan Antonio, etc. will not have to worry if Joan and company are around. BEAUTIFUL arrangement of this classic!!! Keep them coming Joan !!!!
@@Alby_Torino well, I think, since she's born in 2001, she must have been 14 or 15 at the time, but, never mind, this is very impressive anyway. It would be impressive even if she was 19 or 21...
Alba does this one better than anyone‼️. I have never heard or seen a band with so many talented female singers…Andrea, Eva, Rita, Magali, Joanna, Alba, Abril, Claudia…and on and on‼️

Glauco, so many governments push the concept of joining the military under the guise of preserving freedom. It would be so nice if the governments instead, encourage their youth to go in the direction that we see here.
This song could not be sung better. Absolutely gorgeous phrasing, and background vocals are perfection. Great to hear these boss a nova sounds revived and refreshed, perhaps performed as never before. Alba’s voice was made to sing this particular song. Such a beautiful language as well.
I've listened to this 100 times. The thing that shines for me is the incredibly beautiful vocal arrangements that complement so well the tune.
True! When I first understood the bossa rhythm, I found it difficult to teach it to friends who thought it was just cha cha. Imagine how it would sound without the drummer! She deserves more than special mention, keeping things going with the great sax soloists excursions! Let's see her smile sometimes!
I have been listening to this for the last couple of years and every time I hear it, it sounds even better. Alba's voice is so sensual and her bossa nova feel is maybe the best since Joao Gilberto. Andrea, Rita and Elia's voices lay down such a wonderful carpet of gentle sounds for Alba to sing over and what a fabulous arrangement from Joan Chamorro. A work of musical perfection.
Each of the women in the chorus has sung lead in multiple other videos. In fact, by 2023 each of the 4 vocalists is leading a small group, touring and selling out where ever they go!
It's a beautiful language. And the lyrics of this well known song are available and 'Google Translate' can decipher the words and phrases very well. Obrigado.
Music teacher here in Southern California - This gives me hope for The future of jazz in our world. I have to say how simply beautiful this piece is. Almost infectious bringing a tear to my eye. And every single time I listen to it, I am inspired. Thank you for blessing this week ( mine) with these wonderful sounds Played over and over, -making me smile.
I totally agree... This music has truly blessed me during these trying times. It brings me joy each time I listen. And I listen daily... I can see how proud Mr Chamorro is of his young people as he plays his bass and conducts the music. Great job!!! Bravo!!!
She's got the voice of an angel, this one! Joan, keep doing what you're doing, with your direction, these kids will thrive. Just beautiful and soothing to the soul.
This is one of the FINEST bossa performances I've ever heard. I realize this was years ago, but the future of the genre is in excellent hands (and voices and hearts and souls!).
This years Jazzing Festival features 'Music of brazil'. Coming in September, I'm sure the band and singers witll be ready. Bassa will not be dead......
I have no idea how RUclips came up with that suggestion but I'm so grateful, this is a joy to listen to. The backing vocals are exceptional, and everything else is great too. Also, I love how the lead singer looks so humble and sweet, focusing her attention on the soloists and applauding even while she resumes singing, all of this while having enormous talent and a fantastic voice. Congratulations to all, this is just beautiful. I'll come back to this video regularly for sure.
And she was 15 years old at this time---but she'd been in this band for 6 years already! (You'll have to get further into the SAJB to understand this.)
Joan Chamorro is a genius and was obviously blessed with the ability to turn these kids into new stars of the Jazz world. These current and past members of Joan's program are simply amazing. Congratulations Joan, your program is unique in the world. I been in the Jazz world for more than 50 years as a drummer and a fan. I have seen some of the greatest talents in the business and these "kids" could take the stage with any of them. The ongoing success of his students like Eva Fernandez and Andrea Motis are testaments to their commitment and Joan's ability to inspire and empower kids as young as 6 years old into the world of Jazz and to reveal their inner talents. He not only teaches these children how to express themselves through their instruments but he guides them to respect themselves and others and leads them into young adults with passion for their music and their future. It is simply magical and leaves me without words. Another amazing, outstanding performance. Bravo Joan Chamorro and your students.
Never seen anything like him-Genius for sure. GOD BLESS JOAN! Students will remember him as long as they live, as well as all of us that are greatfull for his creating such fantastic musicians and the music they create through his leadership and tutelage!
GRAZIE MAESTRO. GRAZIE.
Beautiful tenor saxo by Enrique Oliver. Jan Domenech is a wonderful pianist. Everyone plays in a very fine way. Rita Elia and Andrea are so sweet and Alba is the soul daughter of Cher Baker and Saraswati. Congratulations too all, Joan Chamorro is a perfect teacher and conductor.
music teacher here in Honolulu.... I wish I could 'like' this 1000 times.... wow. Congratulations on giving these young people the guidance to continue jazz.... amazing. fantastic.
THIS is how "Triste" and bossa nova were meant to sound at their best. Armengou is breathtakingly talented in her ingeniously tenderly evocative nuanced style, as are the other powerfully supporting vocalists, and bossa nova is her calling. The band is world class phenom and the horns were intoxicating in their "spot-on-ness". Bravo! Can't wait to be buying CDs titled the likes of, "Alba Canta Jobim," "Alba Canta Gilberto," "Alba Canta Caymmi," because the world is her oyster. How long must we wait?
Donald Boudreau, "very" well said. You're a wordsmith. I like it. When you speak of her, "evocative nuanced style," I absolutely love what she does starting @ 5:19 when she reaches down to hit those low notes. She is a jewel on many levels. To my dismay, Bossa Nova didn't last that long in the U.S., but it's alive and well!!
Also check out other stuff by those "supporting vocalists" Andrea Motis (trumpet), Rita Payés (trombone), Magalí Datzira (double base) etc. etc. Joan Chamorro finds and develops talented girls as you watch, most of them multi-instrumentalists, too! ruclips.net/video/7zIa__k9un0/видео.html Update: also talented boys :) Here’s a view of the "incubator" in action: ruclips.net/video/VlVwowQdUzQ/видео.html
What is special about the young musicians? It is the naturalness and the joy of the music that they radiate. And something else very important: they are themselves and not copies of anyone. And when they present something, it is as it is and not a repetition of what has already been heard. Bravo - that is something special that you should keep for as long as possible. There are already enough copies. Thank you for being who you are.
Oh for goodness sake, this is; the sweetest tune ever. Her voice , my GOD, I've never heard anything more mellow.
No make up, no mini skirts, not seeking attention, just pure talent that’s what I respect

Alba has the voice of an Angel 😇 ❤️💙
the arranger CRUSHED this. Those vocal parts are so fantastic
Brasilian Samba, Bossa never disappoints....and the vocal harmony of these young people is pure delight.
facts
CONGRATULATIONS. this is real " bossanova"
All the girls are truly fantastic, and nobody could sing this like Alba! My goodness, what a joy! Playerz are great too.
I've come here again...because this is just perfect. Sublime! That arrangement, those voices! Just WOW!!!
Angels coming to Earth to perform this song. The lead singer is particularly expressive.
She has probably the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. I showed my mom and both her and I are so in love with the way she sings. She has such a silky sultry voice
You are so right. Beyond perfection
Astrud recently passed and she is smiling up there. These youngsters will certainly keep this bossa nova alive and well. Astrud, Stan Antonio, etc. will not have to worry if Joan and company are around. BEAUTIFUL arrangement of this classic!!! Keep them coming Joan !!!!
the girl is breath taking
Ghol enta
Alba was 13 at that time
@@Alby_Torino yes they all look like children just entering puberty but their singing is already professional
You're breathtaking
@@Alby_Torino well, I think, since she's born in 2001, she must have been 14 or 15 at the time, but, never mind, this is very impressive anyway. It would be impressive even if she was 19 or 21...
Alba does this one better than anyone‼️. I have never heard or seen a band with so many talented female singers…Andrea, Eva, Rita, Magali, Joanna, Alba, Abril, Claudia…and on and on‼️
i simply can't stop listening to this - the lead voice is just heartbreaking, inspiring, amazing. it's plain beauty. thank you so much!
Who doesn't love Alba Armengou
I agree completely ... never thought I could smile and cry at the same moment. I couldn't until I found this video. THANK YOU.
Pure Beauty! 🧡
This is pure joy! You don't even have to understand Portugese.
This is the most beautiful music I've heard in the past 20 years ♥️👍🤓🎺
Bossa Nova Classic...Best regards from Brazil.
The value of RUclips doubled when Joan Chamorro uploaded these videos.
lead singer ... such a fine voice.
The world is a better place for having Alba sing in it.🎶
SUBLIME ,EL ARREGLOlas voces y la melodía ,bossa Jazz divino
Best version of Triste I've ever heard. Awesome drums holding the rhythm, too...
Triste é viver na solidão
Na dor cruel de uma paixão
Triste é saber que ninguém
Pode viver de ilusão
Que nunca vai ser, nunca vai dar
O sonhador tem que acordar
Tua beleza é um avião
Demais pra um pobre coração
Que para pra te ver passar
Só pra me maltratar
Triste é viver na solidão
Triste é viver na solidão
Na dor cruel de uma paixão
Triste é saber que ninguém
Pode viver de ilusão
Que nunca vai ser, nunca vai dar
O sonhador tem que acordar
Tua beleza é um avião
Demais pra um pobre coração
Que para pra te ver passar
Só pra me maltratar
Triste é viver na solidão
God, she knows how to sing.
Love and peace.
The music language is universal! World needs more music and less business, please!🙏
Glauco, so many governments push the concept of joining the military under the guise of preserving freedom. It would be so nice if the governments instead, encourage their youth to go in the direction that we see here.
772 people are out of their minds: how can you not like this??? ❤️❤️❤️ bravo!!!
You called that right Alisa !
Agreed.
Vocals and music are outstanding.
There are a lot of fools in this world.
This song could not be sung better. Absolutely gorgeous phrasing, and background vocals are perfection. Great to hear these boss a nova sounds revived and refreshed, perhaps performed as never before. Alba’s voice was made to sing this particular song. Such a beautiful language as well.
Agree 10000% with the voice part, but not the accent. LOL.
Alba sings like how she plays trumpet, so much smooth control on every syllable and note, I don't know the musical terms!
Alba and the girls are enchanting. 🥰
Woke up to my mother accusing me yet again for drugs I do not use, and your music alleviates my stress. Thank you.
I've listened to this 100 times. The thing that shines for me is the incredibly beautiful vocal arrangements that complement so well the tune.
Incredible how good is the drummer with only 14 years old at the time of recording, perfect rhythm, great technique
Excellent drummer. Congrats from Brazil \o/
The back-up harmony voices are astounding.
Each of the women in the chorus has sung lead in multiple other videos. In fact, by 2023 each of the 4 vocalists is leading a small group, touring and selling out where ever they go!
That's it. I'm learning Portuguese.
John Crawford same it’s really beautiful! Remember this is Brazillian Portuguese and European Portuguese sounds similar.
Boa sorte!
It's a beautiful language. And the lyrics of this well known song are available and 'Google Translate' can decipher the words and phrases very well. Obrigado.
It is a beautiful language.
Boa ideia meu amigo, boa ideia hahahhahaha
Music teacher here in Southern California - This gives me hope for The future of jazz in our world. I have to say how simply beautiful this piece is. Almost infectious bringing a tear to my eye. And every single time I listen to it, I am inspired. Thank you for blessing this week ( mine) with these wonderful sounds Played over and over, -making me smile.
Right! They are so young but so authentic. This isn't pastiche; they really mean what they're doing.
As both a semi-pro musician and former educator, I absolutely agree man
I totally agree...
This music has truly blessed me during these trying times. It brings me joy each time I listen. And I listen daily...
I can see how proud Mr Chamorro is of his young people as he plays his bass and conducts the music. Great job!!! Bravo!!!
Agreed, but I'd add: it gives me hope for the future of music in our world, not just jazz. :)
Same feeling here, tears in both eyes!
Blown away! So smooth!
Incorporou a alma da Bossa Nova! No Céu , Antônio Carlos Jobim está aplaudindo !👏👏👏
She's got the voice of an angel, this one! Joan, keep doing what you're doing, with your direction, these kids will thrive. Just beautiful and soothing to the soul.
Agreed....her voice is amazing...very mature....wow
I've played music my whole life. This is pure musical magic. I've listened to this so many times. The best!!!
What a superb video of this joyous performance.
Thanks to all who worked to create this lovely gem.
It brings me happiness.
Bravissimo young people. The future of jazz will be great.
This is entirely, absolutely intoxicating.
Alba’s voice is absolutely beautiful.
Fabulosos los jóvenes , extraordinaria la vocalista.
I love this band. The band and its musicians are excellent and that compliment comes from a drummer who has been playing with Big Bands for 62 years.
O Brasil agradece essa coisa linda!
Parabéns, isso é maravilhoso!
Lead singer has a beautiful sultry voice!!!!!!!!!
I certainly hope all those musicians are still in jazz.
Welcome to the worldwide association of SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND enthusiasts!
He certainly is training a whole new generation the art of jazz. So important! Yes! Bravo Joan Chamorro!
He is genius, isn't he, it's freaking amazing, the level of talent is ridiculous
Never seen anything like him-Genius for sure. GOD BLESS JOAN! Students will remember him as long as they live, as well as all of us that are greatfull for his creating such fantastic musicians and the music they create through his leadership and tutelage!
In America all the youngsters listen to garbage!
0:25 THAT VOICE CLUSTER WAS INCREDIBLE OMG
GRAZIE MAESTRO. GRAZIE.
Her voice is perfect for bossa nova
Talking about nuances... Supporting vocalists and not backing vocalists so well said. Amazing harmonies
Exatamente!
Also check out other stuff by those "supporting vocalists" Andrea Motis (trumpet), Rita Payés (trombone), Magalí Datzira (double base) etc. etc.
Joan Chamorro finds and develops talented girls as you watch, most of them multi-instrumentalists, too!

Update: also talented boys :) Here’s a view of the "incubator" in action:

@Donald Boudreau Wait not for CDs - www.jazztojazz.com provides a whole bunch of them, including one dedicated to Alba!
2:56 Enrique’s tenor solo was like a fine glass of wine🍷☀️
This performance still brings tears to my eyes even though I have watched and listened to it many times. Thanks to all.
i m in love with this song, the interpretation is so nice , the voice of Alba Armengou is magic !
