Oh for goodness sake, this is; the sweetest tune ever. Her voice , my GOD, I've never heard anything more mellow.
This is so beautiful, Alba sings directly from the soul. Thank you
One of the best covers of "Triste" in the last 25 years! Alba Armengou nails the vocal. Great arrangement, amazing vocal harmonies, and excellent ensemble play. No wonder it has over 5 million views, muchas gracias Professor Chamorro!
WOW This performance is pretty amazing. The sax and piano solos are creme de la creme. But that vocal harmony is just absolutely sublime.
Yes. It requires intense musical training to sing Seconds harmony like that. Wow!
In my 60 years of musical performance, teaching and listening I have never witnessed any performance from any person that there was a clearer "life" moment for an individual as with Alba Armengou's performance of Triste. The lighting, the intonations, the blends, the gentle and nuanced movement through the song, the truly innocence of expressions by Alba was an encapsulation of a truly life moment for her. That is not to take away from any of the other brilliant musicians, however, this song, this coming together of so many naturally beautiful elements of artistic expression elevated this young women's innocent and unaffected angelic voice and song to the purest of eternal beauty. Alma, you should treasure these most magical few moments as the highest level of the wonderment of human beings. Amazing, simply unforgettable.
Beautiful and very appropriate comment. I agree totally.
Gerald, it is clear you took time with your comments which perfectly embody my feelings and sentiments. Just a wonderfully beautiful and moving piece; a pure expression of life, love and emotion; teh best of humanity. Thanks for taking the time.
I stumbled upon this in 2020, and continue to revisit.
Agreed on all counts, Gerald. Thank you for articulating so beautifully.
Such beautiful words. I fell in love...
Alba could sing the ingredients label on a can of soup and it would be beautiful. Her voice is simply intoxicating.
i keep watching this over and over, a few times a week. it's just so perfect, the sound is excellent, vocals and every instrument spot on, great song. it's like it has the same excellence of paul desmond, jim hall, elis regina from back in the day, all captured with today's technology. love this!
Any idea what mic they used on the lead vocals? Can't believe they got that sound out of a dynamic mic
I can't describe the feeling of satisfaction I have when I see the younger generation carrying on music traditions and adding their own contributions to it, part of a long, unbroken chain of musical beauty.
I am 82 and a jazz guy since I. was 15 It is my birthday and I pick them over all to celebrate Makes me feel alive
I am 85 and ditto!
All the best to you both! 21 here & always loved music such as this.
I am also 82, and sang jazz, and wish that they had that jazz camp when I was that age. Oh, well.
@@hankarnold9355 19 over there the jazz never will be dead!.
I'm "only" 77, but agree - I had the good fortune to be playing this kind of music (not this well of course) back in the 50s. Unfortunately I was not good enough to make a career of it.
Alba has a beautiful voice. She sings so nice with sensitiveness, besides this is a very mellow song.
This song could not be sung better. Absolutely gorgeous phrasing, and background vocals are perfection. Great to hear these boss a nova sounds revived and refreshed, perhaps performed as never before. Alba’s voice was made to sing this particular song. Such a beautiful language as well.
Agree 10000% with the voice part, but not the accent. LOL.
No make up, no mini skirts, not seeking attention, just pure talent that’s what I respect
She has probably the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. I showed my mom and both her and I are so in love with the way she sings. She has such a silky sultry voice
You are so right. Beyond perfection
Don't understand a single word, but her voice is magic.
Sad is to live in solitude
Far from your tranquil altitude
Sad is to know that no one ever can live on a dream
That never will be, will never be
Dreamer awake, wake up and see
Your beauty is an aeroplane
So high, my heart can't bear the strain
A heart that stops when you pass by only to cause me pain
Sad is to live in solitude
San Andreu is a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Barcelona. Railroad tracks and little else. Great to see the people make the beauty that the area lacks. I played Basketball there for San Joan de Mata.
Still the best mood booster available anywhere, and it was recorded in 2016. Amazing. What a beautiful thing. Alba and everyone are inspired and inspiring.
No matter how many times I hear this, it kills me every time, how beautifully it is performed by everyone involved. This is music at its finest. Congrats to all involved and bless you.
Totally agree.
...wish they don’t grow old and just keep singin’ like this forever...a form of art, indeed
RAY DEWEY yesss love it
You are right on, yet we have 400+ thumbs down. Rappers?
I downloaded it on MP3 today.
I dont know how many times i've listened to this. It's just eargasmic! Their blended voices have the perfect vocal chemistry. I hope they make a repeat performance for 2023!
I have just revisited this after a long gap, but having watched and listened maybe a hundred times before.
It is still total perfection. The harmony and pace and timing are stunning. A moment captured in time, in the young lives of these fantastically talented people. It never gets old.
❤😊
Without undermining all of Alba Armengou's jubilation, we must, above all, thank Antônio Carlos Jobin, both for the lyrics and the wonderful melody of this BOSSA NOVA, which praises the BRAZILIAN people.
This is the most beautiful music I've heard in the past 20 years ♥️👍🤓🎺
Bossa Nova Classic...Best regards from Brazil.
This is Bossa Nova, a Brazilian jazz variant, at its best. Her voice is absolutely angelical and captivating.
Actually U.S. jazz is a Bossa Nova variant, rs...
But seriously now, Bossa Nova is a middle class variant of Samba, a music created by brazilian afro-descendent people as way to express it happyness when they are slaves, something as the roots of jazz, in the U.S. southern...
definitely correct
@@rmlazzari this is legit vibes right here
If one is the variant of the other is actually a big point of discussion between different audiophiles and music historians, but what we can say is that both are quite beautiful and unique in their own right :)
@@PS-yi7nz yes you defined very well.
Brasilian Samba, Bossa never disappoints....and the vocal harmony of these young people is pure delight.
facts
When I get weary of the world and the wars I come to this channel and observe the best in music and humanity. 😊
Amen!
I have been listening to this for the last couple of years and every time I hear it, it sounds even better. Alba's voice is so sensual and her bossa nova feel is maybe the best since Joao Gilberto. Andrea, Rita and Elia's voices lay down such a wonderful carpet of gentle sounds for Alba to sing over and what a fabulous arrangement from Joan Chamorro. A work of musical perfection.
I feel like jazz is in good hands and we don't have to worry about it :)
Qui a composé triste
Beautiful
if feel like this is latin
* Bossa Nova!
What a great comment - yes, the torch will be passed into good hands. 😊💖
I've come here again...because this is just perfect. Sublime! That arrangement, those voices! Just WOW!!!
Joan Chamorro is a brilliant man. Hours and months and years spent with these young people.
My remedy for the sorry state of affairs in the world today is to inoculate yourself every morning by playing this prior to reading the news. Proof there still exists truth and beauty and light. Obrigado.
Hi Head. I stopped reading the news 10 years ago to preserve what's left of my brain.... Check out Morrissey's " Stop watching the news " vid ; it's a different vibe but good for a LAUGH !
ALMOST RIGHT INOCULATE SELF WITH LISTENING TO THIS ONLY AND SKIP THE NEWS! NEWS DISEASE MUSIC HEALTHY!!!!
Well said. This beauty can't make the crazy go away but it sure can help
This morning I woke up with the sad news that legendary musician Joao Gilberto had passed away on saturday. This take of Triste literally brought tears (of joy mind you) to my eyes this morning. The beautiful arrangements of the exquisite vocals, the excellent solos ans the pure JOY that this performance and these young yet very talented young musicians brought to me, I think even mr Gilberto up in heaven will agree that this music is indeed very good hands with our youth. A big hand to mr Joan Chamorro for giving us the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and passing on beautiful music!👏 you made my day!
Jimmo here.... Man, I had to come to grips with it too....the morning didn't go so well. Few, I suspect realize that while AC Jobim crafted all those marvelous songs we took to our hearts and souls, it was Joao who invented Bossa Nova...he will be sorely missed. Here is something no fan should miss: daniellathompson.com/Texts/Brazzil/Plain_Joao.htm
Jim Griffin thanks for the link with these wonderful stories of Joao. What an extrordinary human being. He did indeed hypnotize his listeners, there is simply something mezmerizing in bossa, and the youngsters in this video nailed this emotion completely!
@@timobesamusca9332 Right on Timo... I play this song everyday on my guitar.....one more thing on Joao....he pulls off chords on any song he renders with the same finger pressure yielding a perfect sonority and completeness. Sometimes his voice is so far behind the beat or ahead of it, but at phrase end he's linked back up on the beat. Eliane Elias mentioned this once and was sorta shaking her head like we all do perhaps in wonderment herself. I love her too. Peace, Bro.
Angels coming to Earth to perform this song. The lead singer is particularly expressive.
Jobim esta orgulloso, donde quiera que estes... Qué bueno que en Europa haya un resurgimiento de la bossa, mientras aca en América Latina si no es reggaeton no pueden hacer nada !
Joan Chamorro is a genius and was obviously blessed with the ability to turn these kids into new stars of the Jazz world. These current and past members of Joan's program are simply amazing. Congratulations Joan, your program is unique in the world. I been in the Jazz world for more than 50 years as a drummer and a fan. I have seen some of the greatest talents in the business and these "kids" could take the stage with any of them. The ongoing success of his students like Eva Fernandez and Andrea Motis are testaments to their commitment and Joan's ability to inspire and empower kids as young as 6 years old into the world of Jazz and to reveal their inner talents. He not only teaches these children how to express themselves through their instruments but he guides them to respect themselves and others and leads them into young adults with passion for their music and their future. It is simply magical and leaves me without words.
Another amazing, outstanding performance. Bravo Joan Chamorro and your students.
He certainly is training a whole new generation the art of jazz. So important! Yes! Bravo Joan Chamorro!
He is genius, isn't he, it's freaking amazing, the level of talent is ridiculous
Never seen anything like him-Genius for sure. GOD BLESS JOAN! Students will remember him as long as they live, as well as all of us that are greatfull for his creating such fantastic musicians and the music they create through his leadership and tutelage!
In America all the youngsters listen to garbage!
Incredible how good is the drummer with only 14 years old at the time of recording, perfect rhythm, great technique
Excellent drummer. Congrats from Brazil \o/
True!
When I first understood the bossa rhythm, I found it difficult to teach it to friends who thought it was just cha cha.
Imagine how it would sound without the drummer!
She deserves more than special mention, keeping things going with the great sax soloists excursions!
Let's see her smile sometimes!
All the girls are truly fantastic, and nobody could sing this like Alba! My goodness, what a joy! Playerz are great too.
Felicitaciones.
Something about the particular combination reaches a new spot in my enjoyment of the beautiful effort. God bless all of you.
Wonderful! Very promising young talents! These musicians bring out the best of each other.
❤❤❤
I like too much Bossa Nova and I play on piano 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹 Garota de Ipanema 💓❤️🔥☀️🌈🫶🏻
Thank You for this Marvellous Dream 💓
Music teacher here in Southern California - This gives me hope for The future of jazz in our world. I have to say how simply beautiful this piece is. Almost infectious bringing a tear to my eye. And every single time I listen to it, I am inspired. Thank you for blessing this week ( mine) with these wonderful sounds Played over and over, -making me smile.
Right! They are so young but so authentic. This isn't pastiche; they really mean what they're doing.
As both a semi-pro musician and former educator, I absolutely agree man
I totally agree...
This music has truly blessed me during these trying times. It brings me joy each time I listen. And I listen daily...
I can see how proud Mr Chamorro is of his young people as he plays his bass and conducts the music. Great job!!! Bravo!!!
Agreed, but I'd add: it gives me hope for the future of music in our world, not just jazz. :)
Same feeling here, tears in both eyes!
0:25 THAT VOICE CLUSTER WAS INCREDIBLE OMG
2:56 Enrique’s tenor solo was like a fine glass of wine🍷☀️
This is one of the FINEST bossa performances I've ever heard. I realize this was years ago, but the future of the genre is in excellent hands (and voices and hearts and souls!).
This years Jazzing Festival features 'Music of brazil'. Coming in September, I'm sure the band and singers witll be ready. Bassa will not be dead......
That's it. I'm learning Portuguese.
John Crawford same it’s really beautiful! Remember this is Brazillian Portuguese and European Portuguese sounds similar.
Boa sorte!
It's a beautiful language. And the lyrics of this well known song are available and 'Google Translate' can decipher the words and phrases very well. Obrigado.
It is a beautiful language.
Boa ideia meu amigo, boa ideia hahahhahaha
THIS is how "Triste" and bossa nova were meant to sound at their best. Armengou is breathtakingly talented in her ingeniously tenderly evocative nuanced style, as are the other powerfully supporting vocalists, and bossa nova is her calling. The band is world class phenom and the horns were intoxicating in their "spot-on-ness". Bravo! Can't wait to be buying CDs titled the likes of, "Alba Canta Jobim," "Alba Canta Gilberto," "Alba Canta Caymmi," because the world is her oyster. How long must we wait?
Donald Boudreau, "very" well said. You're a wordsmith. I like it. When you speak of her, "evocative nuanced style," I absolutely love what she does starting @ 5:19 when she reaches down to hit those low notes. She is a jewel on many levels. To my dismay, Bossa Nova didn't last that long in the U.S., but it's alive and well!!
Talking about nuances... Supporting vocalists and not backing vocalists so well said. Amazing harmonies
Exatamente!
Also check out other stuff by those "supporting vocalists" Andrea Motis (trumpet), Rita Payés (trombone), Magalí Datzira (double base) etc. etc.
Joan Chamorro finds and develops talented girls as you watch, most of them multi-instrumentalists, too!

Update: also talented boys :) Here’s a view of the "incubator" in action:

@Donald Boudreau Wait not for CDs - www.jazztojazz.com provides a whole bunch of them, including one dedicated to Alba!
I've played music my whole life. This is pure musical magic. I've listened to this so many times. The best!!!
The future of fine music is in safe hands! 😊❤
The world is a better place for having Alba sing in it.🎶
SUBLIME ,EL ARREGLOlas voces y la melodía ,bossa Jazz divino
i simply can't stop listening to this - the lead voice is just heartbreaking, inspiring, amazing. it's plain beauty. thank you so much!
Who doesn't love Alba Armengou
I agree completely ... never thought I could smile and cry at the same moment. I couldn't until I found this video. THANK YOU.
Pure Beauty! 🧡
This is pure joy! You don't even have to understand Portugese.
This is Alba at her best. and she was just 15 when this was shot. And the back up by Andrea, Rita and Elia is fantastic. What great things Joan Chamorro has done with these young people!
Is she making records yet? I have the two full length albums with Joan C. and they are incredible. She's my favorite artist.
Blown away! So smooth!
That young lady on the drooms is like a metronome. And I LOVE this singer!
I have no idea how RUclips came up with that suggestion but I'm so grateful, this is a joy to listen to. The backing vocals are exceptional, and everything else is great too. Also, I love how the lead singer looks so humble and sweet, focusing her attention on the soloists and applauding even while she resumes singing, all of this while having enormous talent and a fantastic voice. Congratulations to all, this is just beautiful. I'll come back to this video regularly for sure.
Welcome to the worldwide association of SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND enthusiasts!
And she was 15 years old at this time---but she'd been in this band for 6 years already! (You'll have to get further into the SAJB to understand this.)
What a superb video of this joyous performance.
Thanks to all who worked to create this lovely gem.
It brings me happiness.
That close harmony backing singing is utter perfection!!
I knooow i knooow oh my god!
Amazing singer artist
like angels...
Hermosa canción.
Hoi Wouter, these background singers are accomplished artists in their own right. Especially the short haired one, Andrea Motis, she sings and plays trumpet all around the world. The blonde on the left, Rita Payes, is carving out a career as jazz singer and trombone player for her own. We may think it is a bit odd, but in the Americas and the Caribean, poeple play the copper instruments and not so much the guitar as we tend to think. In our country, every boy, girl, genius or idiot plays a guitar. thephilosopherofculture.blogspot.com/
This performance still brings tears to my eyes even though I have watched and listened to it many times. Thanks to all.
I certainly hope all those musicians are still in jazz.
Astrud recently passed and she is smiling up there. These youngsters will certainly keep this bossa nova alive and well. Astrud, Stan Antonio, etc. will not have to worry if Joan and company are around. BEAUTIFUL arrangement of this classic!!! Keep them coming Joan !!!!
CONGRATULATIONS. this is real " bossanova"
Alba has the voice of an Angel 😇 ❤️💙
I've listened to this 100 times. The thing that shines for me is the incredibly beautiful vocal arrangements that complement so well the tune.
Já ouvi isso 100 vezes. O que brilha para mim são os arranjos vocais incrivelmente bonitos que complementam tão bem a melodia.
After years more than 5 million views. This is one of the school's best-performed songs ever. Sung in a perfect and enveloping way and with solos of the highest quality. I could put him among the milestones of jazz for his absolute fresh execution
The music language is universal! World needs more music and less business, please!🙏
Glauco, so many governments push the concept of joining the military under the guise of preserving freedom. It would be so nice if the governments instead, encourage their youth to go in the direction that we see here.
I now spend most of my listening time online here with this magical man and his fantastic young musicians. I run out of words to describe how wonderful these people are to the art of jazz. Joan Chamorro is a super hero in my book. I am 84 now and I feared for the future of jazz at one point not so long ago! Not anymore! As Felix Kozelsky said somewhere else...jazz is in good hands now!
You should check out Jacob Collier, he is the future of jazz and music itself.
Beautiful and true words
Well said
Alba and the girls are enchanting. 🥰
lead singer ... such a fine voice.
If this is not the “gold standard” for this song then you tell me. From here on every time this song is recorded it will be compared to this. This could not be better.
Haha power of youth!
cesteres yes you’re right about the youth but I’ve heard this played by so many musicians over the years. This version is just so great. The voices are amazing but the sax is so sexy and the piano is sooo amazing.
I swear I can’t think of any other rendition that captures it like this one. It is simply amazing. Do you agree?
music teacher here in Honolulu.... I wish I could 'like' this 1000 times.... wow. Congratulations on giving these young people the guidance to continue jazz.... amazing. fantastic.
Alba sings like how she plays trumpet, so much smooth control on every syllable and note, I don't know the musical terms!
I have played this video over and over again. Such a beautiful song. Hard to describe how good the performance is. The vocal is so great, the perfect vocal parallel of a Stan Getz performance. I love the vocal harmonies and the guitar introduction is beautiful. I also love the tenor solo, perfect for the setting. 6.8 million views is testament to how amazing this performance is. Thank you Alba and everyone else involved. Sensational!
What is special about the young musicians? It is the naturalness and the joy of the music that they radiate. And something else very important: they are themselves and not copies of anyone. And when they present something, it is as it is and not a repetition of what has already been heard. Bravo - that is something special that you should keep for as long as possible. There are already enough copies. Thank you for being who you are.
Her voice is perfect for bossa nova
i m in love with this song, the interpretation is so nice , the voice of Alba Armengou is magic !
Best version to me , too!! The super sweet harmonies with little surprises all over, the two saxes playing in two almost opposite styles, the piano player doing both that and in his solo preempting the upcoming chords with some of the same surprising results. And the vocal is as sweet as bossa nova itself. It is charming to see, how the lowest note has been worked on with some attention to projection. And likewise charming that Alba is directing the last beat, just like the great bass player is brilliantly but discretely directing the rest: Leave it to the vocalist to play her finish! And of course the groove is true to the sweet bossa - I don't wanna say tradition, 'cause it's more like a groove. Just like if you change salsa, it's not salsa. It's a feeling. Everyone is playing so deliciously!
The value of RUclips doubled when Joan Chamorro uploaded these videos.
Beautiful tenor saxo by Enrique Oliver. Jan Domenech is a wonderful pianist. Everyone plays in a very fine way. Rita Elia and Andrea are so sweet and Alba is the soul daughter of Cher Baker and Saraswati. Congratulations too all, Joan Chamorro is a perfect teacher and conductor.
I keep coming back to this. One of my most favorite performances ever.
I've never heard such young people harmonising so well together I've watched it so many times and I still love it in fact I will always love it as I will all their music
I don't know what she is saying, but my answer is *YES*
she is talking a lot about the sadness of being alone. I know that 'cause it's my language haha

She's got the voice of an angel, this one! Joan, keep doing what you're doing, with your direction, these kids will thrive. Just beautiful and soothing to the soul.
Agreed....her voice is amazing...very mature....wow
The back-up harmony voices are astounding.
Each of the women in the chorus has sung lead in multiple other videos. In fact, by 2023 each of the 4 vocalists is leading a small group, touring and selling out where ever they go!
I love this band. The band and its musicians are excellent and that compliment comes from a drummer who has been playing with Big Bands for 62 years.
God, she knows how to sing.
Love and peace.
My thanks, as a retired musician, to Joan Chamarro for dedicating his life to music and these kids that all the world can enjoy now and into the future.
i have no idea what they are singing but i just love this so much. i must have heard it over and over 60+ times. Joan! you are simply amazing!

I've watched this many times and it gets better. Amazing everything, alto and tenor compliment each other so well, pure magic. Alba and friends are out of this world, so nice to follow their careers. Fab
Oh my God who are these people? Great vocal arrangement, lovely singing, out of this world sax solos
Wow........this is really great! GREAT! What a lovely voice! And sung in flawless Portuguese. Wow...... I got goosebumps of it. For more than 50 years I'm a lover of Brazilian Bossa-Nova music so I know a lot of bossa-nova songs and bossa-nova singing artists. I think Joan Chamorro is fantastic and Alba Armengou is SUPER. I love you all. Best wishes from the Netherlands!
Thanks, Mr Chamorro. I appreciate your "like" of my reaction. I wished, you come to the Netherlands with your band and perform somewhere here. For sure, I come and enjoy it. And don't forget to bring Alba Armengou with you!!
Ok put aside for a moment the awesome vocals, bass and direction. In this video we experience great saxophonists (both of whom interpret differently) and a world class pianist !
And. although I've watched this a few times I just now realize how much the precision camera work and editing adds to making this piece a masterpiece.
And the fantastic though discreet drumming of young Abril Sauri. Sounds Brazilian!!!
Ramon Tort, the camerawork, the editing, has been critical to me noticing (being made to notice!) the performers' interactions, their own delight and commitment to each other and the music. This is jazz band as living organism.
Jobim must be smiling down from Heaven.
This girl is fantastic. Superb feel and sense of vulnerability in the delivery. Simpatico. Bravo.
Shades of Cannonball Adderley and Stan Getz on the same stage at the same time.. Wow, Alba's accent is perfect in every way! Her phrasing is spot on. It doesn't get any better. When Andrea Motis and Rita Payes are your supporting vocalists, you have to be great!
En este mundo en destruccion estos jovenes musicos de Jazz son el Ave Fenix...
My favorite version of this song by a long way. Kudos to all.
The definitive recording
Alba sings with such feeling and she has such a lovely voice. She will be, if she so desires, be admired world-wide. I can't get enough of this video.
Hi Joan, watching this again before bed. Enriqe, Luigi, Jan, Abril, Alba and the heavenly harmony of the girls and Senor Monne's excellent arreglo, one of my favorites from SAJB.
Matengnance bien todos!!
Mucho Gratias Joan, for reminding me of el comentario de hace 5 años.
Me trae buenos recuerdos.
¡Tu y toda la banda y los invitados se quedan bien en Barcelona!
@joanchamorro, I keep watching this one. It's the first Clip I saw of Your work and still among the greatest music I've heard in my life. Alba and the three other geniuses! How is this even possible? And all of them have been going on... You must be a happy man... I respectfully salute You.
This is entirely, absolutely intoxicating.
Sounds like a reincanation of the Familia Jobim. These girls are amazing indeed!
I love bossa Nova music, this is one of the best..amazing musicians..great singer..
Bravissimo young people. The future of jazz will be great.
