Incredible...has to make you proud of your dad's contribution to jazz music. This never goes out of style. What a great tribute to your mom. Plus this band do it great justice.

Mr. Chamorro: Greetings from America. I am a player and teacher in Long Beach, CA, USA. For many years, I was a disc jockey at radio station KLON (now KJAZZ in Long Beach) A long, long, long, LONG time from now, there is a very special place for you in heaven. Every time you step in front of these kids you make the world a better place. I have a vibraphone next to my computer. Thanks for letting me play with you today! One of my life goals is now to travel to Europe and hear you live. I saw another video where you do "Everything Happens to Me." Matt Dennis. And then the Jobim stuff. What class and elegance.
Thank you Vicente. Note the way that Alba's whole body reacts (and the rest of the band) when the tenor sax comes in behind her around 1:03. It's like they are all dancing! FYI: I played on the same stage with that same tenor player, Scott Hamilton when I was the same age as these kids. I played vibes in the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band. He was on the program. No, I didn't play with Scott Hamilton, but our band was directed by Thad Jones and Mel Lewis! Trombonist Andy Martin was in that band (we drove up together in my Buick). I'm ready to take a trip to Barcellona just to hear this group play. Joan Chamorro has given these young musicians a love for music that will be with them for the rest of their lives. I'm an old jazzer from the past and have listened to almost all of the famous big bands. I love this. My uncles played in the Big Bands . My Uncle Paul played with the Raymond Scott Band on America’s Hit Parade and my other Uncle played Bass with Sinatra. Listening to my Uncles talk forever made me love Jazz. Joan what you have done with these young musicians is magic. From Motis, Payes, Armengou and countless others their vocals and their instrumental improvs are elegant and sophisticated.
Wonderful adaptation of the original arrangement very nicely played and sung -- love the rhythm guitarist. I hope she realizes how much she is part of a great tradition and how important her role is.
Joan, it is such a delight to see you and Scott developing these youngsters into great musicians. The sound of your young band is as good as any professional outfit. The smile on the faces of your young musicians during this audition shows satisfaction with their own creation - a very strong motivating factor. Keeps an old guy like me (in my 70's) very happy to see.
this is so perfect...the sax section is unimaginably tight...the piano fills are exquisite...Carla is indispensable...the the guest pro (Scott) seems inspired by all of these young musicians, as they are inspired by him (just look at their faces when he comes in)...What a treat!
Joan, that was a fabulous arrangement and stunning performance. Congratulations to everyone: Scott for his smooth solo; Alba for her beautiful voice and diction; Jan for his conversation with the singer, band and wonderful minimalistic solo; Carla, Miguel and Pablo for their steady rhythm; the saxophones, trumpets and trombones for silky harmony, punctuation and expression - totally appropriate and heartwarming. Special thank you too, to Scott and Miguel for singing along in the final section to add emphasis - Ba, Ba, -, Ba / B_a, B_a / ............. Exceptional. Thank you.

There is so much incredible talent these days. You don't have to be a big name to get recognition anymore. This girl that sings and plays sax is awesome.
Perfect Alba - she really has the perfect voice and phrasing for this wonderful Count Basie favourite! And her interpretation of Triste and all those Jobim numbers is so amazing. Joan Chamorro - I don't know how you manage to cultivate and encourage such superb talent at San Andreu.
Another amazing video by SAJB!!! Alba is stellar!! At only 17? Unbelievable! I love Jan’s sensitive piano and the bands professionalism ! Fantastic!! Thank you Joan! You are genius!
One of my Dad's favorite Basie tunes. Great job by everyone, but a big tip of the hat to the pianist. Not many can play in the Bill Basie style as well as you did. Very tasty!

This recording was what really got me into playing jazz. Scott’s solo was my first transcription, and this tune was the first one I took in all 12 keys. Amazing performance thank you!!!
This is excellent! I love Alba's singing, the rhythm section has superb forward motion and swing, and the pianist is really special! Joan, you really have gotten amazing results from these fine young musicians. This is one of my favorites!
Thanks to Joan Chamorro for dedicating himself to jazz music and promoting these young boys & girls beyond the scene, enabling them to express their amazing talent and gifts. The selected tunes and the recording are also just great. What else to say apart from "bravo" & best wishes to all!

How beautiful is it to hear Alba, then Scott, then the band rising to a wonderful tutti. Scott plays like a breeze through the wine - I listen and enjoy, eyes closed. After 3:40, I stir and have to look who's playing - Jan! with the coolest of solos, melodies trickling over the rim of the grand in all colours. Bravo!!
First to last note absolutely flawless, Alba so good, Scott my favorite sax man, Jan terrific, arrangement and direccion...perfeccion!! as well as the whole band who looked like Scott's intro took everyone for a ride. This is such a joy to watch. All these talented, young people who really enjoy this swinging session, nodding their heads and smiling while listening to the solo's... Just beautiful!
I ca n't get over the sounds that are coming from these young musicians and this singer. An appreciation of jazz is so evident here, and it makes me sooooooo happy. Joan Chamorro is just a master.
Second youth for the great Scott Hamilton! His bare participation in this performances shows his generosity, and his tribute to the quality of Joan Chamorro's SAJB. Thank you, maestro!
Its a compliment. If you think about singers like Billy Holiday or Nina Simone, they're old souls - they've been around and experienced heartbreak and pain. Alba has a huge career ahead of her, she's marvellous, and still so young. No negativity meant at all by that comment.
The phraseology of these young ladies just implacable and the sound should have been broadcast all over Europe and North America. Absolutely Terrific !
Shit! These youngsters have so much music in their Body and Soul ! Tks !!! And of course the "little" older man on tenor sax. All the best, Y are GREAT! Fm Jan O Oslo,Norway 75yrs old. Be cool!!!
Wow!!! You are all fantastic people! Thank you for this wonderful performance. Just lovely to see such a talented band of young (and just a tiny bit older!) people making fabulous music. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Thank you Maestro Chamorro- for your wonderful musicians and the multi talented Andrea Motis (your Billy Holiday/Chet Baker incarnate). You’re mentoring a whole new generation of swing/big band musicians!!!
Yesterday, another commenter, wellandweasel, asked, "Do I hear a little bit of Ella Fitzgerald in Alba?" My answer would be, Yes, you probably do. The recording history of the song may explain why, though, admittedly, this is a guess on my part. The tune was written in 1955 by Frank Foster, one of the Basie band's tenor players, and it was originally an instrumental. (I used to hear Basie play it back in the fifties, at Birdland.) Then, some years later, Foster co-wrote, with Ella Fitzgerald, lyrics for the tune. This was done for an Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie record date that was issued as an LP called "Ella and Basie" in 1963. It was the first, but not the only, recording of the vocal version. Sarah Vaughn did it on an LP released the next year. My guess, based on a few bits that she sings that are almost identical to what Ella does, is that Alba listened to the Ella-Basie record, possibly in order to learn the song. However, if you listen to the Alba-SAJB version and the Ella-Basie version (it's on Spotify) back-to-back, you quickly discover that Alba is no mere copycat. Despite the slight similarities, she basically brings her own style and sense of swing to the proceedings -- and good for her. If you're a young jazz singer, there's no shame in learning from the best. But she's rapidly developing her own style, and she's the real deal. Speaking of similarities, pianist Jan Domenech's intro sets the band to swinging from note one, and that intro, along with his later solo, captures the spirit of Basie's spare, not-one-note-too-many piano style, again without being a copycat. The maestro would surely approve. Indeed, the whole band has got the Basie medium-tempo groove down to perfection, and when Scott comes in behind Alba, he kicks the groove even deeper. I've seen a lot of big bands over the years, but I've rarely seen one that looks as blissed out as this one -- just watch the heads bobbing in time with the beat and the smiles all around. There's a look that performers of all kinds -- jazz singers and instrumentalists. opera singers and classical musicians, even figure skaters, among others -- sometimes get when they know they've absolutely nailed it. That's what we're seeing here. There's an old saying about the Basie band, that "they can swing you into bad health." The SAJB can, too.
My Dad wrote this for my Mom!! Thank you!!!
Well dang

Alba you are sublime. What a wonderful arrangement and band.
It’s hard to put into words how much this reaches my soul. My heart has a smile! Alba is one of the very best!
This is such a joy to watch. All these talented, young people who really enjoy this swinging session, nodding their heads and smiling while listening to the solo's... Just beautiful!
I love the jazz Chamorro, Sessions, forever and ever and the all company Sant André Jazz Band!
I ca n't get over the sounds that are coming from these young musicians and this singer. An appreciation of jazz is so evident here, and it makes me sooooooo happy. Joan Chamorro is just a master.
Fabulous! The woman's voice is soothing and out of this world. The band is 2nd to none!
Second youth for the great Scott Hamilton!
His bare participation in this performances shows his generosity, and his tribute to the quality of Joan Chamorro's SAJB.
Thank you, maestro!
This performance is truly perfection.
She's way too young to have such a soulful voice! Wonderful.
why not? She’s been part of the band for 10 years, singing for 8 or 9.
Its a compliment. If you think about singers like Billy Holiday or Nina Simone, they're old souls - they've been around and experienced heartbreak and pain. Alba has a huge career ahead of her, she's marvellous, and still so young. No negativity meant at all by that comment.
More swing than swinging thing ! . Oh ! and a voice sweeter than honey . Beautiful .
The phraseology of these young ladies just implacable and the sound should have been broadcast all over Europe and North America. Absolutely Terrific !
I meant impeccable
I wish you all the luck in the world.
impossible to tear yourself away from watching and listening
This must be the best music school in the world. How good it is to see so many young people take up music to make our/ their lives happy.
I love the way the young musicians are smiling, relaxed and enjoying the music, great.
We are so blessed to get to hear this. Before RUclips, we would have never known Alba, Rita or Andrea. Our lives are so much richer for this.
The Jazz House series is so great! Joan, bravo, bravo, bravo!
