Early this year my eye doctor diagnosed me with MGD (meibomian gland disorder). She recommended that I eat more healthy fats and recommended eggs and flax. Given I am keto, I already eat a large amount of healthy fats and eggs are high in the list of stuff I eat all the time. About a month earlier I had talked my GP into adding Vit D and B12 tests (for reasons I won't get into here) and my Vit D level had come in just below the normal range. My GP didn't think it was a problem and left things there. So after my eye doctor appointment I was looking into the various options. flax seed oil was highly touted, but the Omega3 fats in that are ALA, and the body doesn't convert those very well, so I really didn't see its benefit over any other kind of fat. I decided to go with cod liver oil both for the healthy fats and the Vit D boost. (I live in Seattle, we can go months without seeing the sun.) And within a month starting cod liver oil my eyes felt so much better. No stinging, no burning. A few months months ago I ran out of cod liver oil and was too lazy to reorder right away (was trying and failing to find it locally in stores). And I noticed my dry, itchy and burning eyes came right back. Eventually got more cod liver oil and started to take it daily again. And my eyes went back to good, or at least much much better. I wonder if its at least partially the Vit A in the cod liver oil. 1tsp contains a little over 100% of the daily recommended amount and in a form our bodies like and can make use. I also noticed that my energy levels are noticeably higher when I take it compared to not taking it. Wonder if that's the vit-D. Back during the second world war, my grandmother had a cow. So she would trade her family's rations of milk and butter with other families for their cod liver oil. Smart woman.

Read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. It doesn't have all the latest research, as written a few years ago, but it is basically a book about the history of nutritional science. It is a bit of a hard read, but it will really help you understand what went wrong. Another thing to understand is how much Adventist have controlled nutritional science. The American Nutritional Society is Adventist. Kellogg and Post, think big grain, are Adventist. Big grain means big money. The Adventist beleive that eating animal products causes masterbation which causes all the ills of the world. So basically you have a crazy religious belief combined with massive profits controlling most nutritional studies. Remember, these are the people that have convinced the world that eating oil designed for motors and oil lamps is healthy.

Vitamin A deficiency can result from inadequate intake, fat malabsorption, or liver disorders. Deficiency impairs immunity and hematopoiesis and causes rashes and typical ocular effects (eg, xerophthalmia, night blindness). Diagnosis is based on typical ocular findings and low vitamin A levels.

40 years ago I started giving my husband a good form of B complex vitamins because of his dark circles under his eyes. They disappeared as long as he was taking the supplements.

If vitamin A is stored in fat and you start losing weight quickly on this diet, won't that flood your body with vitamin A? I lost 65 lbs in 4.5 months on the "Lean for Life" diet about 20 years ago. I started losing my hair until I found out that was a side effect of too much vitamin A. When I stopped eating their protein bars, that were loaded with vitamin A, my hair stopped falling out and grew back. The same happened to my mom and my sister, who were also doing the diet.
One person's diet is not going to affect the global challenges we face. The best thing you can do for the environment is vote. There's an entire political party scoffing at science and environmentalism and tearing down environmental regulation. Not to get political, but sometimes we have to. Vote out Republicans and conservative Democrats and find good progressive candidates that support the environment. Meat can be raised sustainably and humanely if we put strong rules into place. Many plant based crops are not good for the environment either.
@@Tmanaz480 what are ur thoughts about regenerative farming? I saw someone said that in order for that to happen, we have to eat less meat. and those plants, wheat, and corn that are grown are for cows and not really for humans. so if we will stop growing wheat and corn and will replace it by raising animals, is it possible to have large numbers of cows and let them gazing? coz I dont have problem eating less meat but not literally avoid meat. I believe fats like raw milk, raw cheese, raw butter, etc are crucial than lean meat.
I was hoping leg/foot cramps because I can't pinpoint the reason. Instead I got a Wow when he said 3 of the symptoms I do have. If you are reading this I get lots of Sodium, tried adding Magnesium doesn't make a difference, Potassium makes it worse. When I'm eating bad carbs, pizza candy soda ect., no cramps. I like how I feel on Carnivore but those cramps can wake me out of deep sleep and they come randomly at least once a day. Always one of my feet or calf forcing me to stand fast and do the calf stretch till it stops never more than a minute long. Long hard work day seems increase the chance of getting one. I'm going to see if you have a cramp video maybe I'll find my answer there. I don't know maybe I need more time to adapt to Carnivore, my goal is 30 days then go from there. I do OMAD too so maybe adding another eat time might help.
iirc, calcium deficiency can also be a cause of leg cramps, according to Dr. Joel Wallach. But research it to be sure. And maybe you still need more salt, some people need a lot more than others.
Chris masterjohn says that this vitamin A is not a vitamin stuff is total insanity. I will say that you will be vitamin D deficient if you are not taking 150-300mcg of vitamin D3 per day and if you start eating liver or getting adequate vitamin A you may get bad side effects. This may be interpretted as vitamin A toxicity because vitamin A antagonizes vitamin D. Nutrition with Judy has a woman on talking about how she ate liver on carnivore and got these horrible results. She did not mention every taking vitamin D though, so I suspect that is the cause.

When I started giving my son probiotics, his canker sores went away. We also stopped using the plunger after he went to the bathroom. The stomach and mouth are connected.

For several months I would dampen my legs with water and put a lot of Vaseline on them 2-3 times per day. That skin condition is GONE. Even the bumps are gone. I was doing Keto at the time too.
While switching to the keto lifestyle I noticed that the roughness of my skin went away.
Real vitamin A is retinol! Plants do not have retinol and our bodies poorly converts beta carotene into vit A. Vitamin A deficiency signs and symptoms: 1. Frequent infections 2. Dry skin scaly skin 3. Dandruff 4. Dry eyelid/dry eyes 5. Infertile 6. Stunted growth 7. Poor wound healing
There are research links below. There’s a video with info on high rich foods in vitamin A listed in show notes.

I love your short videos. Very informative. Are you taking patients at a clinic yet. I need a good Keto doctor.

Dr Berry, could obesity be a sign of vitamin A deficiency? Could someone overeat because he has this deficiency?
I think I got vitamin deficiency I have all the symptoms I did have it a few months ago can you get it again my joints are painful my back and am always very tired day and night I do get out in the sun I do take vitamin d suppment could I have low vitamin deficiency should I get a blood test I am so fed up with the way I feel

The dry skin is epidemic 😷. I worked at a Drycleaners for 25 years and for the past 5 years, people’s clothing was so full of dead skin flakes I almost vomited 🤮
Hi to my favorite doctor can I take vitamin k2 with multivitamin including ginseng in the morning and taking Aspirin in the evening.
I heard Aspirin and ginseng and k2 they are all blood thinner
Problem is that too much vit A can give many of these symptoms plus more aswell...So if you have been eating LOTS of liver, egg yolks, butter and other vit A rich foods like cod liver oil for a long time, it's more plausible that you need to cut back instead of increasing.
Wow I recently came across on of your comments in Goatis video! I responded but I’m pretty sure he’s got me blocked or shadow banned or something. 😭😭😭 when I saw your comment I knew they were gonna have awful things to say to you…. What sad people….
I had my gallbladder removed 12 years ago. I now have dry eye, how can I absorb Vitamin A without a gallbladder? What do I need to do? I am 72 years old and now working on a keto diet. My blood test were good except for cholesterol (244 total, 53 HDL and 173 LDL) blood pressure is 115 over 75. Weight 132. I need advice on this dry eye and what to do about Vitamin A. Thank you. There is nothing wrong with your cholestrol.
Maybe look up ox bile and Dr. Berg.
what do you think about Dr Garrett Smith to go low Vitamin A?
So I thought I was intolerant to dairy because eczema would break out on my elbows if I had dairy. Recently I added the ancestral supplements liver supplement to my diet and I've noticed I can eat dairy without eczema breaking out.
Maybe due to the increased vitamin A?
I blamed dairy too! I am still suspicious but I noticed I am not as intolerant. I was a heavy plant-eater all my life. My skin used to be flaky and bumpy even as a kid. Maybe I should suck it up and start implementing the liver in my diet.
@@alicee2952 try the ancestral supplements. I like a little liver pate but I haven't been able to eat enough of it to get all the nutrition I need out of it. the supplements are great because they're just dehydrated,or freezed dry I forget, ground up dry liver.

Please help me with nutrition for terrible migraines.
Please can you make a video addressing all the people who slam keto diet. They are seriously scaring me and make me want to quit the diet.
Those people have no clue whatsoever. Dr. Berry has done his research very thoroughly so I would look through his videos and if there is something that worries you, then he more than likely has a video that will ease your mind.
I think you might be interested in this, James Hoffmann, London coffee roaster and RUclips producer, replicated a study on himself about how drinking coffee before breakfast effects blood glucose. He has a glucose meter in beaded in his arm? Name of the episode is "Science Says No Coffee Before Breakfast". 12:07 published Oct 29 or 30 2020. Interesting results.
Is there a way to find a doctor in my area that is sympathetic to the information provided by people like you?

The chard, sweet potatoes and carrots I was told to not eat much of these as I had a kidney stone for first time in my life at 61 , we had it tested for what it was made up of 70 % of oxalates this was this Sept 2020.
What is your take on this ? Thank you
Yep, that would be from the veggies. A lot of vegans have horrible problems with this. Vegan Deterioration youtube channel talks about this a lot. Spinach is real bad for causing kidney stones as well.
Great subject/video Doctor, thank you! Can you tell me how Accutane Rx relates or interacts to vitamin-A? Also, Retin-A ?
It is one of the 350 esters that make up vitamin A. You can treat acne with vitamin A. It's a bit risky if you are a woman and must not get pregnant.
I have had low vitamin A (in serum blood) for years- I’ve tried many vitamin A supplements - but my numbers are still low. I just mentioned to my functional doctor to prescribe me vitamin A injections- I already do vitamin B injections.
I’m wondering if there is a genetic condition that might prevent me from absorbing it in my gut.
Do you want know Dr?
Ty
Synthetic vitamin A is garbage. I wouldn't go anywhere near it. Eat liver!
Thank you Dr Berry
This why cod liver oil is so amazing 😊
I wonder if this is why my nose peels so bad . I have dandruff too, not severe but enough to annoy me . I thought it was bc of estrogen dominance .
I ate some Vit A softgel and it made my eyes so dry I had to use eye drops 😢
Answer @3:08
Vitamin A deficiency can result from inadequate intake, fat malabsorption, or liver disorders. Deficiency impairs immunity and hematopoiesis and causes rashes and typical ocular effects (eg, xerophthalmia, night blindness). Diagnosis is based on typical ocular findings and low vitamin A levels.
Thank you for this comment - more helpful than Dr. Berry's. So if I keep repairing my malabsorption and insulin resistance I can head these problems off at the pass? At 66 I have no vision problems or cataracts but have started having eye floaters occasionally and mother had glaucoma which makes me nervous. I continue to be baffled at the extreme differences between Dr. Berg's Keto and Dr. Berry's Carnivore recommendations
@@curiouscat3384 I found carnivore to be so much more simple and the fast track to help with insulin resistance. Also check out dr Robert Cywes on RUclips for more on carnivore. I believe we all have experiment to find what works for us personally, some find it helpful to keto and carnivore cycle

Can you make a video on eyes dark circles in Kids. My son have dark circles for a couple months now. I thought it was lacking sleep but he sleeps 10+.
40 years ago I started giving my husband a good form of B complex vitamins because of his dark circles under his eyes. They disappeared as long as he was taking the supplements.
My son had these. Really bad. Finally went to a great doc when he was six, called them “allergic shiners”. He was diagnosed with celiac that year and his eyes look way better these days.
@@martyverrill4158 my son is six and his dark circles make him look so sick. His doctor told me his fine. I think is time to look for a new doctor 🤔
@@-JenGonz- Yes! And don’t fail to put him on a keto diet. He will thank you when he grows into a healthy man. Trust me, I know!!
@@-JenGonz- it is hard to find a doctor who has any intellectual curiosity and will investigate with you when the answer isn’t obvious right away. My son was sickly from birth and we saw dozens of doctors over the years before he was diagnosed at age six with celiac. We had doctors tell us it was psychological, we had had doctors tell me (mom) that I needed help, most just said “well he seems fine to me!” Finally we found a good one. My only advice is to trust your intuition, you know your kid. There are good/thorough/inquisitive doctors out there, they are just hard to find! Good luck to you mama❤️
I've noticed many years ago that a lot of adults have wrinkly dry elbows.
what causes this?
It could be from low vitamin a
Could also be from leaning on elbows, dragging them on tables when leaning etc. The natural oils from the skin probably rubs off, causing the skin to 'dry out'. Could be wrong.
My eyesight has gotten worse in the last 6 months or so, on keto last 3 months I have floaters and now everything is so blurry far way when I used to see well far away.
@eeleb check out Dr. Berg's video on needing Zinc in order for Vitamin A to work.
Thank you for your information
i am not a doctor but this video make sense thank you
thank you so much for these
is keto/carni good for environment? im against at factory farm and conventional dairy farm.
Some people have a bad deficiency where they need to supplement with it so what would be a good supplement to use temporarily

So which is better? I do eat liver. I was told to take beta carotene instead of something labeled vitamin A. I have dry eyes.
liver is better, dont need to convert
I was hoping leg/foot cramps because I can't pinpoint the reason. Instead I got a Wow when he said 3 of the symptoms I do have.
If you are reading this I get lots of Sodium, tried adding Magnesium doesn't make a difference, Potassium makes it worse. When I'm eating bad carbs, pizza candy soda ect., no cramps. They only happen when on Carnivore starting about day 2 to my longest stretch 2 weeks.
I buy carrot juice with turmeric from the store and drink a little everyday with a women gummy vitamin.
How much should we be taking

I'm on a carnivore diet
Will it show up on blood test?
I'd like to hear your take on Dr Garrett Smiths recent work on vit A
Chris masterjohn says that this vitamin A is not a vitamin stuff is total insanity.
Do average blood panels test for vitamin A ranges?
Nope
Thank you!!

Would low A have an effect on someone having cankor sores? My daughter suffers from those
22 years ago a friend told me I should be eating ginger because I was always having canker sores. I added ginger, in powder form, to food and making a tea with it. Then I discovered crystalized ginger and enjoyed eating that. I have had ONE tiny canker sore since adding ginger to my diet 22 years ago!
When I started giving my son probiotics, his canker sores went away. We also stopped using the plunger after he went to the bathroom. The stomach and mouth are connected.
check for food allergies (wheat/gluten) happened to me
Cankor sores are from wheat gluten sensitivities
I suffered canker sores my entire life. They flare up when the arginine to lysine ratio gets inverted. When I stopped the foods high in phytates (nuts, grains, sweet potatoes, citrus) and went more carnivore, I stopped having outbreaks!!
I was taking 3,000 to 6,000 mg lysine during outbreaks. Now I take 500mg twice a day, plus lemon balm. As long as i eat a ketovore diet, no problems. 😊
Thank you.

So the carrot juice I have is no good?
Is it dangerous if someone eats so many carrots that their skin actually turns orange? My sister is experiencing this, i thought she was just using bad self tanner lol.
It's not dangerous. The carotene is being stored in her body fat and gives it the orange color. However, she should probably eat other foods instead of carrots.
