Keto Witch So you can't go through a whole night without eating? That is odd. You probably should increase your fat content. You have to get off of carbs. Take an actual quality electrolyte/ mineral supplement. Increase your fasting window in very small increments every week or so.

Keto Witch Oh and most "real doctors" don't know anything about diet and nutrition. This dude is great. But most conventional docs are very flawed in their approach. I don't recommend using that method as a criteria for accepting any advice or not.

I started taking 340 mg of magnesium glycinate about two months ago for some harmless arrhythmias.
I recently noted that my BP is now consistently 110/70. I’ve always been a 125/85 guy and took 5 mg of lisinopril for many years.
I’ve since discontinued all meds and can only assume my lower BP is due the daily magnesium dose! Amazing.

I've been battling chronic fatigue for my entire adult life (30M). I'm in ridiculous shape, I eat healthy but I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried everything. Eventually, I decided to start taking Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Citrate before bed. After a month of doing so, I feel well rested every single night. I am more productive at work. I am more confident, more assertive, generally in a better mood and just an overall greater pleasure to be around.
I think magnesium deficiency is what I was struggling with. I can't believe after all this time, I've finally identified the issue. Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!

I was Dx with diabetes on Christmas eve. A1c was 11.6, i started following your keto, and then carnivore advice. Three mos later A1c= 7.1. Got off the metformine and switched to berberine and french lilac. Now my A1c is 6.1, down from 11.6 in six mos. BP is 100/70, all labs are good. My primary doctor almost pissed himself, said it couldn't be done. I hope to have my A1c out of the pre diabetic range and back to normal on a few mos.

On lowest dose of thiazide for BP (sole condition) for two weeks with no guidance from my doctor on managing palpitations, dehydration, and diet. The complexities of magnesium, potassium, calcium and how they work together and more importantly, how deficiencies (and excesses!) in one of these minerals has consequential effects. After two days of trolling the internet to better understand the medication, the symptoms, and fit it all together, I landed upon one of your videos. More doctors should provide the basic education you provide. It's not enough to hand a patient a scrip and hope they thrive. Your community and patients have a gem in you.

Glad I found your channel, have been working my way through your archive.
I'd been having problems with cramps in all my muscles for a number of years, when a friend gave me a spray bottle of 'magnesium oil' (not an oil but a high concentration of magnesium chloride in water (feels greasy). When I put this on the skin over the cramp, the cramp goes away. Magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) does a similar through-the-skin muscle relax, but the chloride is IMO faster.
Since then, I've been supplementing with magnesium citrate. I eat a lot of dark greens, but I always have. I've also taken to using magnesium oil as an underarm deodorant. Works great for that, and it gets more magnesium into my body. I know there are lotions for 'restless legs' that are pretty much magnesium citrate in a lotion carrier.
I still get the occasional cramp, but nowhere near as bad. I'm still not swimming across the lake (used to do 2mi/day in the water) as I'm a 'sinker' and a bad cramp without a rescue nearby could be... bad.
BTW/FWIW. it's cheaper to buy magnesium chloride flakes and mix with hot water (same way you'd make a simple syrup with sugar) than to buy the pre-made 'oil'.

As a mom living north of Detroit, I was originally interested in providing my sons with enough fiber to solve their problems with constipation. I planted Kurly Kale from seed behind my petunias in front of my house. I would pinch off the tiny flowers when they came, but was able to harvest kale 11 months of the year. They would die down in February and start up again from the roots in March. At dinner time, I would simply slip out my front door with my kitchen shears, shake the snow off the plant and cut what I wanted for our meal. I could easily "hide" torn bits of kale in any hot dish (mac & cheese, spaghetti, chili, etc.). The top leaves were always tender enough for my salads. My plants were 4 years old when I moved away from them. I never gave them a bit of care but they produced wonderfully anyway.

Allow me in this fortuitous moment to share something I read in one of Dr. Dean’s books about magnesium that caught my attention: “The biggest obstacle to magnesium is that most people think it’s too simple a solution. If you feel you have a serious condition, you may expect the treatment to be just as extreme, so with magnesium, its simplicity is its downfall”.

Great stuff as always. I am getting lots of info on Keto and IF. I started about two weeks ago and am starting to feel a difference. Difference enough that when I cheated a bit over the weekend, I felt worse then ever. That in itself was enough to get me back on the wagon quick. Think about doing a video on what a balanced meal would be...doing two a day would be my preference. I I.F. from 8pm to noon. I have never liked breakfast, and found doing that very easy. I do worry (imagine others do) that I am not in balance yet with my eating...both nutrition, amounts and type.

Thank you for your expertise. I was having trouble with sleep and a friend recommended magnesium and it has worked wonders for me. You just confirmed everything for me plus showed me what else I should be eating. I'm a 63 yr old female and do not want to die from something so easy to rectify. Thank you for your podcasts as I am following your advice on many subjects.

Thanks Doc! Lots of good info. I’m on magnesium infusions monthly. I have crohns and lose a lot of nutrition. I stay away from the leafy greens because they go right through me. I’m also on Remicade which doesn’t seem to be helping. I do 4 chewable magnesium pills a day. 400 mg each. I’m going to get one of the supplements you suggested. Thank you again!

Doctor, please talk a little bit more about the lack of magnesium. It can cause bipolar disorder, suicidal tendencies, mood swings, depression and much more. So many peoples in the United States suffers from depression. Many psychiatrists do not check for vitamin deficiencies, but instead administer strong psychotropic drugs. Your audience need to hear more about this problem. Thank you.

I've gone from months of Keto to carnivore just 5 weeks ago. Last week I started feeling my heart beating hard. I thought it was my blood pressure as I've stopped all my blood pressure meds but it was 117 / 73. It got worse over the next few days and caused me to not sleep last night. Laying down made the problem worse. This morning at 3:45am I woke and took a hot shower, in the shower I recalled seeing this video just the day before. "magnesium is critical for the heart" so on a hunch I went to the kitchen and dug out the magnesium supplement that I had purchased just a few weeks before. I wasn't taking it because the tablets were so big. I took two (the recommended daily dose) and before 5am I began to notice I was feeling better. My heart was not beating so weird and my mood became better. Now it's almost 8am and I feel great. I can't even feel my heart beating and my pressure is 110/69.. not bad for 60 and no medications what so ever.
    Magnesium.. you need it!
    Thanks doc.

@@andsoitgoes1142 I agree with you. I have been taking some electrolyte drink mix that has mega potassium in it (Dr. Berg). I've been doing the same as you, eating salt. I found that when I have an urge to eat something, salt relieves the urge.
Now I'm taking more pills than I was before. All vitamins and supplements to compensate for what I'm not getting.
I will say that I feel 10 times better than I did just a few months ago.
I just started with iodine and wow. energy is through the roof!

Hi Dr. Berry. I just discovered your videos and you have my attention. I really enjoy your videos. I understand that you don't endorse any particular vitamin brands and that is admirable. I would like to know how to pick a good vitamin company. What are the secrets for making a selection, not wasting time, money and not getting sicker? Thanks.

Great video on magnesium - needed for ATP production. Do you think serum ionised magnesium may be a better measure? Some US blood gas analysers offered a magnesium electrode channel about 20 years ago - I wonder if they became widespread. They would be handy in a hospital setting to pick up arrhythmias due to magnesium depletion.

Thank you for sharing I've been on this for the past couple of days and what I eat is sweet potatoes and spinach which they both have potassium and magnesium so I eat those daily instead of taking any pills. Also, I learned that sweet potatoes help with the flu viruses and colds.
