I currently take Q-nol magnesium glycinate. My chiropractor suggested it for the night leg cramps. I did not get as much relief as I want and having to take it two hours after anything else, is prohibitive. I am not as faithful with it the past two months as I had been. If I can find the last one I may try that as I have thyroid, blood glucose, hypertension and depression issues all combined to deal with in addition to the night leg cramps. Thanks.
I was a bit guarded at first. But then I realized right away his education on magnesium!! This guy knows his stuff. Smart man and great vid. Utilize this info everyone.
As a homecare RN for manny years I found Mag Oxide was the one doctors recommended for their patients. I would talk to them about the different forms of magnesium and recommend mag glycinate as being the most effectively absorbed.

Since most MDs are ALLOPATHIC, they know very little about true nutrition and supplements. They are indoctrinated by big pharma and instead of being open to learning more about FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE, they reject it and discredit true healthcare practitioners. I used to get patients referred to me with tremors, which they thought might be Parkinson's or some NOS condition but never thought about trying magnesium. Some patients had tremors after years of taking gabapentin. My goal is to become certified in functional medicine, but at 60, that is an expensive credential for a low ROI. In the meantime, knowledge is rewarding. ☺️

Cannot understand why you haven’t covered magnesium Taurate which has changed my life, I had terrible PAC’s the cardiologist couldn’t do anything but give me beta blockers, but magnesium taurate stopped them within a week, it also reduce my blood pressure significantly!! It’s the best of the lot!!
100% agree… I was taking atenolol for years for high pulse rate, I completely agree that magnesium taurate is a complete game changer and I’ve been on it for two years now and it is definitely a miracle. It Not only lowered blood pressure but it brought down my pulse rate and I sleep amazing when I take it right before bed. 👍
I love how Thorough this Doctor's explanation was about all the different magnesiums. I know which one I want to try now. Everything is not for everybody. It makes perfect sense. Thank you so much this video was very informative and helpful 😊 👍🏾❤️
I just started taking Magnesium Lysinate Glycinate (200mg) right after working out. Whatever muscles group I worked out that day within 30 minutes to an hour if I accidentally tensed my muscles it would extremely cramped . Now that I take the magnesium it helped prevent it. It's a miracle!
This has been the best video I have seen on magnesium. I’ve been using myself as a guinea pig for all the wrong types of magnesiums. Just found another one online, which I’m hoping is the right one to take. Magnesium glycinate, low-dose zinc Although I have to take three tabs a day. Not happy about that. I would rather take just one tab a day. Three tabs is equal to 275 mg of magnesium bisglycinate. It also contains a small amount of zinc 8 mg which I’m already taking 15 mg of bio-zinc. Which contains 20 mg of B6.
Magnesium citrate worked great for me. I collapsed with covid and had bad pain tried paracetamol no good at all. But went to local health store was advised MC and it worked so well. I only take one every other day. 💙🥀
You are amazing! I've listened to this video several times and sharing with family. Your videos have been the most informative I've watched related to thyroid issues and I can't thank you enough for the information you share with the world!
Your discussion of mag' L-threonate is what I was hoping for. I wanted to know if it was worth it's priceless. very disappointed that you did not talk about magnesium chloride, which is what I take. In fact I don't really hear about it in any of these doctor videos. why is it excluded?
MgCl is most probably not mentioned because it is freely available in Nature , Since it cannot be COPYRIGHTED , there’s NO MONEY to be made ..!!! Self explanatory Big Reason why it’s kept low key & in the background
I was using the oxide and felt no difference. When I started the citrate, I started feeling much better almost instantly. I was feeling dehydrated when I was using oxide, but the citrate helped me a lot better.
The magnesium salt of carbonic acid. I use it inform of tablets together with citric acid, so it dissolves easily and gives a kind of sparkling drink. the final result is magnesium citrate. And it is not expensive.@@marypatton1122
I like taking a foot bath once or twice a week with magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) or magnesium chloride. They have a calming effect and can raise magnesium levels in the blood transdermally. They also help with aches and pains. I take magnesium citrate orally because I can buy it cheaply in bulk and is the only kind I can afford thanks to the cost of living crisis, even though it is not as easy on the gut as more expensive versions.
I use a combo...mostly mg glycinate and 200 mg mg citrate. Glycinate didnt relieve constipation but citrate does. The 2 forms taken together seems ideal!
Hi doctor, I'm diabetic and I guess the "magnesium malate" seems to be the one for sleep I think, but you said not to take at night. There's too many of them to keep track, but I just want to get 7 to 8 hours a night, because it takes me a good while,to fall asleep and stay asleep. I really appreciate all the information you provide. Thank you so much! 🥰🤗
I use a small transister radio set so static is all I hear. It is "white noise" that helps my brain "turn off", allowing me to get to sleep. There are apps that provide sounds for the same sleep result. I didn't have any sleep problems until I passed 60 years old. I'm 72 and I don't try to sleep without the static noise going. I'm willing to try the different magnesiums to see if any make a difference. Stay tuned.
Great video. Thanks for breaking down the different types of magnesium. Question, what are your thoughts on magnesium chloride? It's a liquid magnesium that I am currently using. Thanks, Jeff
My Dr prescribed Mag64 Magnesium Chloride because my levels were low. I’ve been taking it for approximately a year. I’m interested in thoughts on it’s efficacy.
Great video, but it would be also great to have your take on the link between glycine and cancer. For instance, it seems to affect prostate cancer probability; and, like serine, it is used a lot by cancer cells.
When I began to take Magnesium, I didn’t know there were so many varieties so I purchased what I saw at the local Box Store. It is Magnesium Oxide, and for me, it works very well. The cramps and spasms disappeared, and my sleep improved immediately. Most importantly, my blood pressure improved dramatically and I no longer take the pharmaceuticals. Magnesium Oxide is what I will continue to use because it has been very effective.
Hey! I take Mag Ox for bowel 'continuity' 😊 but its a bit hard on my weak digestive system so I do intermittent Mag Citrate. It's no one size fits all...that's for sure!
I was taking 3 different magnesium supplements and ended up with ectopic heartbeats and weak muscles so just be careful folks, I was in the emergency twice and doctors at neither offered it as a possible reason, I stopped taking them and after 2 days the ectopics stopped(they were so bad I nearly passed out).
Well, that happens when one thinks pills of all sorts are a replacement for a more healthy lifestyle. 3 different supplements of this, 5 of something else, then some others just in case... humans are awesome.
Excellent presentation, thorough and yet clear and comprehensive! Thank you! In case of multiple symptoms (physical and cognitive), is it recommended to take both Magnesium Glycinate and L-Threonate?
Would you comment on Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil, mined as magnesium chloride and used as a topical spray? I have used this for years now. Thanks for your fine presentation.
Hi Thomas, this is what I use on and off, need to get back on a regular schedule with it. makes me itch a bit but it does make a difference in energy and sleeping. I also started taking magnesium malate everyday, keeps the gout away! 🙂
hi there, thank you very much for putting this video for us. I've seen some of such and similar videos, but I cannot find anyone talking about Magnesium pidolate which I use and its considered by far the best. Can I bother you to give me your opinion on this one if there is any? Thank you
Thank Doc, you just straightened out why My magnesium orotate is not good for sleep. I use it now in the daytime and it works beautifully. Glycinate is on My list for an evening dose, (on the low side). I look forward to trying your protein powder
Hi Dr! Thanks for such an informative video. Is the magnesium glycinate safe to be taken long term for constipation? I heard that the magnesium citrate is bad for the long term as it causes dependency. I also would like to help with my anxiety. So I am thinking to take the magnesium glycinate daily! Thanks!
Since 2013 I've used Mg Taurate, because it was recommended for heart health. It cured my arrhythmia issues, and I got me off Metoprolol (beta-blocker) to my doctor's amazement. Why isn't it mentioned in this vid? 🤔
I have had chronic migraines for about 25 years. I started taking magnesium malate powder on the recommendation of another Doctor, but I didn't realize that it was not advisable to take it before bed or that it was probably not the best way to increase total body magnesium. On your advice I just purchased a tub of powdered Magnesium Glycinate with which I plan to experiment (I use powder based on the believe that it is more easily absorbed). I am 67 years old, pretty healthy and active but I also will try anything that decreases inflammation and increases cognitive ability. I lift weights 3 times weekly and I also take creatine plus a variety of other supplements (most, like fish oil, vitamin D, a multivitamin, etc are recommended for people my age).

An excellent exposition, Doc. Thank you. There is another form you might wish to review at a later date - Magnesium Phosphate (Pentahydrate), which seems to be very common as a supplement, at least here in the UK.

I use a transdermal Zechstein magnesium chloride oil called Derma Mag. I suffer from a heart arrhythmia that is greatly helped by this form of magnesium. It also helps with the muscle spasms from fibromyalgia.
I use magnesium oil (magnesium chloride) transdermally (apply directly to the skin) daily for restless legs, pain from venous insufficiency and old traumatic injury pain. I put pure magnesium flakes in my bath for whole body absorption. I have taken oral magnesium in the past, but now think transdermal is the best and most efficient method for instant relief from muscle pain and disfunction. No need to wait for pain relief for months as you build up mag levels and it reduces the load of work on kidneys and liver. None of these "specialists" talk about transdermal mag! My restless leg syndrome is solved immediately...I put mag oil on my lower legs almost every night and no more restless legs or having to jump out of bed from sleep to stop extreme muscle spasm from venous insufficiency. My skin is much better as well.
I just bought "7 minerals 'pure Magnesium Oil' made from "100% Magnesium Chloride"......before I saw your article. I didn't see that on your list - can you comment on what this might be? Thanks!
I like using those magnesium citrate drinks to help me when I travel. I don't get any cramping, etc, and no OMG rushing to the bathroom incidents. It's very gentle for me.
Didn't a study just come out that links high glycine levels to depression? Makes sense to me. I was taking 400 mg of Magnesium Glycinate and after about a week I had to stop because I felt sluggish and depressed. A few days after stopping I felt fine again. I switched to MagThreonate instead.
THANK YOU...I chose Magnesium Glycinate due to my research a few years ago. So glad for the added confidence that we are taking the best form. Doctors are SO busy theses days, I do a lot of my own research, and save more pressing matters for them! My husband's memory is becoming unreliable. We have an appointment to see a neurologist, since the recent visit with his MD. I am a bit afraid, but trying to stay positive. I have tried different nootropics, and brain enhancers. I wonder if you could discuss the components in these preparations, rather than the brand's themselves. The ones I was searching for were PS, the long term that professionals have shortened. Also Bacopa, Huperzine,GABA, L-Theanine, and Cholene. I'm hoping that the neurologist will prescribe something with these latest ingredients, but so many others are in these products, it would be good to have other professionals opinions. I look at health issues as a square, in that there is more than one side in these issues. Plus, each blend has a period of time to truly get to the issue. It is a mind boggling situation, pardon the pun. Thank you for the video.

1. m oxide AVOID (cheap and low quality) 2. m citrate (laxative properties drawing in water) most excreted 3. m malate (ideal for whole body magnesium but stimulating- not before bed) 4. m l-threonate9 best for cognitive issues, but not for total body and excreted easily) 5. m glycinate (his favorite) 6. m orotate (might help with energy in cells but expensive maybe for athletes) 7. sucrasomial good absorption also $$$

Celtic sea salt has 3 forms of magnesium

YES TO MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE
except, most physicians know nothing about such things, only if big Pharma says so. we have to do extensive homework, just view all the controversy here.
I'm currently a home health OT after having to close my private practice specializing in neurological disorders.

I have SVT so looking for something that will help. 😢 Don't want to stay on Beta Blockers forever...looking like only solution is an Ablation.
I also did not heat him cover magnesium phosphate. Let me know if I am wrong. I don't hear too well and don't understand the big words sometimes.
I use it too. Absolutely game changer
Please, could you share the brand you have used?
You are a man of the people…a real doctor. Thank you!
I love how Thorough this Doctor's explanation was about all the different magnesiums. I know which one I want to try now. Everything is not for everybody. It makes perfect sense. Thank you so much this video was very informative and helpful 😊 👍🏾❤️
This information is EXACTLY what I have needed and been looking for. Great video. 9:46
Sounds like you might have been deficient in magnesium, cause cramps. Being deficient in potassium can cause cramping also!

Thanks!
As to it's unlikeliness to raise total body levels, what about taking both the L-threonate and the glycinate form together ? !

Thank you so much. Suffering this last year from migraines which has never been a problem problem for me before. I also get a lot of cramp.
I guess I need magnesium. This info is gold to me ❤️
I am surprised you don’t mention magnesium carbonate. Otherwise, this was a well organized and helpful presentation. Thanks.
Ya especially since it is in "calm" from Natural Vitality which I have been enjoying for years with good results.

Thank you for differentiating MG! I’ve been taking Mg Glycinate 350mg with Black pepper a day(nonGmo) for 4 months for leg muscle cramps at night. It’s not completely goes away, but I’m glad to know that this is better choice than other. I take Soralay brand and also Now ordering from Amazon. Thanks!👍
This is the best lecture I have seen on magnesium. Should magnesium L3 and 8 be taken for epilepsy?
Thank you for the information. It would be very helpful to be able to see the forms of magnesium printed on the screen so we could write it down. Thanks
very disappointed that you did not talk about magnesium chloride, which is what I take. In fact I don't really hear about it in any of these doctor videos. why is it excluded?
Yes! Good question! been taking mag chlor for years, 20 drops daily.
MgCl is most probably not mentioned because it is freely available in Nature ,
Since it cannot be COPYRIGHTED , there’s NO MONEY to be made ..!!! Self explanatory Big Reason why it’s kept low key & in the background
I was using the oxide and felt no difference. When I started the citrate, I started feeling much better almost instantly. I was feeling dehydrated when I was using oxide, but the citrate helped me a lot better.

We now know all magnesium is not the same. This video was helpful in evaluating which products to toss out for good.
Thanks. Good to summarize the presentation in a table, though.
I didn't watch the video but subscribed thanks to comment outlining the video. Reading is underrated these days, maybe I should get back into that
I like taking a foot bath once or twice a week with magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) or magnesium chloride.
Thx I was wondering about a combo.
So it's safe to mix them?
Best description I've found so far. Thanks!
Glycinate is best for me. Very calming and helps me sleep. ❤
Yeah, he doesn't talk about which one is best for insomnia. 🤬🤦
No the one for sleep is Threonate not malate which is good for pain etc

Me too magnesium miracle she wrote the book on magnesium
My Dr prescribed Mag64 Magnesium Chloride because my levels were low. I’ve been taking it for approximately a year. I’m interested in thoughts on it’s efficacy.
Interesting. You're the first YT doctor I've seen who downplays threonate in favor of other magnesium forms.
Great video. I would have loved to heard mention of Mg Taurate or the use of Mg “oil” as well.

How did you end up taking 3
First i've ever heard, possibly you took so much that you unbalanced your potassium levels? Like way too much?
Well, that happens when one thinks pills of all sorts are a replacement for a more healthy lifestyle.
3 different supplements of this, 5 of something else, then some others just in case... humans are awesome.

In case of multiple symptoms (physical and cognitive), is it recommended to take both Magnesium Glycinate and L-Threonate?
Magnesium Oxide has an iffy reputation, but if studied in depth it begins to look much more interesting.....

Which are the best for body energy and mood?
No video is comprehensive. All are confusing.
Ok. Great information. However, which form of magnesium is best for my calf cramps at night?
He just said in the video that magnesium malate IS the best for increasing total body magnesium levels, so what the hell are you talking about?

Thank you for your video. I would also like to know what you think about "Magnesium Oil" (Mg Choloride).
i have read people put magnesium oil on their feet before bed and when they wake up. great benefits
Good to know this😮
Thank you doctor!
I agree! I found a magnesium lotion that resolved my calf and arch cramps almost instantly. I could hardly believe it!
Which type of magnesium is good for better vitamin D absorption?
