Parroting Dr Berg notes as i usually do best:
Vitamin D is the most important vitamin! It’s a fat-soluble vitamin involved in 10% of our genetics.
Vitamin D won’t work unless you have enough magnesium, the second most important nutrient. Magnesium is involved with 300 different enzymes and plays a vital role in regulating excess calcium. Magnesium glycinate supplements have the best absorption rate.
The more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you’ll need. Some negative side effects associated with vitamin D, such as nausea, heart palpitations, muscle cramps, and headaches, are actually symptoms of a magnesium deficiency.
Don’t take vitamin D without the important cofactor, vitamin K2. Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium, but you need vitamin K2 to drive it into the bones and teeth to keep it out of the soft tissues.
Vitamin K2 is best for calcium buildup. Take 100 mcg of vitamin K2 for every 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3.
Zinc is another important cofactor that helps you convert cholesterol into vitamin D. If you’re taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D, you should also take 20 mg of zinc.
One of the biggest vitamin D mistakes is not taking enough! You need at least 6,000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day. Vitamin D2 does not work like vitamin D3.
The vitamin D detected in the blood is not the active form. This means you could have normal blood levels of vitamin D but still have vitamin D deficiency.
Statins and steroids can inhibit your ability to make vitamin D and its ability to work in your body. The best time to get vitamin D from the sun is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
    Thank you Dr Berg!
    😺👍

I also take Eliquis 5mg 2x/day, Lisonopril 10mg & Amlodipine 10mg for blood clots and HBP. Dealing with DM as well and have brought the A1C down from 14.8 to 9.2 in 7 mos. just with diet. Its crazy...I was feeling great and then my right leg swelled up. I went to the ER and they kept me for 3 days to find out I have all these illnesses. I'm 59 like you. This has all been very exhausting - dozens of appointments, a new prescription almost every time I see a doctor and they could care less what side effects their meds cause me, so I decided to take back some control and see how doing things a more natural way will do. I'd been taking 5000 IU for over a year when I learned about K2 and added that. Only in the last month have I learned about magnesium and added that. Once I started taking magnesium a few things started to improve. Doctors never talk about vitamins or supplements. In fact, I realized that in all the years of discussing statins, the only thing discussed was how my LDL wasn't at goal. Never do I remember anything about diet and carbs or inflammation or vitamin D synthesis and statins. Absolutely nothing except LDL and HDL.

      Also dark green leafy greens (like spinach, kale, collards...) add magnesium to your diet. As complicated as hemoglobin and chlorophyll are, there is only one difference between their molecules: their CENTERS. Hemoglobin's center is IRON;
Chlorophyll's center is MAGNESIUM. Therefore, all your body needs to do to get hemoglobin while ingesting chlorophyll is to remove the magnesium, replacing it with iron. Eat your greens, follow up with an apple 🍎 or red meat to build your blood.

    Good tips!
One other suggestion: Some folks may have genetic variants that reduce their ability to utilize vitamin D. Some of these (pretty rare) are so serious they are diagnosed in childhood, but others are more subtle. You can have "normal" levels of D and still have all the risks of someone who is deficient. This can be confirmed genetically (usually CYP2R1, VDR, and/or CYP27B1 genes), but one easy indicator (confirm results with your doctor) is to get 24-OH D and PTH (parathyroid hormone) tested at the same time. These should be in an inverse ratio. Generally, when your body is getting enough D (25 OH D above the middle of the range), your PTH will be below the middle of the normal range. Because I have some vitamin D resistance, I try to keep my PTH in the middle of the lower third of the reference range by supplementing D (and K2 MK7 and magnesium citrate) and checking the ratio every few months. I started at 10k IU/day, and now I'm stabilized at 3 50K and 4 5K supplements a week - about 24k IU/day.

A lot of users ask about the amount of magnesium they should take.
    From my point of view:
Magnesium is always individual. Some need more, others less. The stress of everyday life or a lot of sport alone means that the body needs more magnesium. And now vitamin D is added to the mix! Vitamin D is a so-called magnesium thief, it needs it for its own conversion and activation and takes it from the body's stores, which are sometimes unable to carry out their normal tasks. Often the stores are not sufficient, and magnesium can only be partially absorbed through diet. Possible consequences for some: headaches, muscular problems, unpleasant agitation, nausea, and sometimes heart palpitations. This is often due to a magnesium deficiency and not to vitamin D. The problem can therefore be solved.
The stores can be filled well with a supplementary daily amount of approx. 300-800 mg (Mg is individual). It is recommended to take Mg in smaller portions (approx. 150 mg) throughout the day. The body can then absorb and process it immediately.
The magnesium forms glycinate and citrate are highly bioavailable. Citrate affects some people's intestines (hence smaller portions), and has a predominantly muscular effect, while glycinate has a more calming effect (in the evening). For example, I take both alternately, sometimes in combination.
By trying things out and listening to yourself, everyone can find out their amount.

I just want to express my appreciation for your work. You share insights that are generally hard to obtain and which «society» should adhere to, communicate and facilitate for instead of letting people in their ignorance unwittingly get all kinds of deceases which could easily be avoided. I have talked to a couple of doctors about this and it´s not neccesarily lack of knowledge on their part, but more that most people don´t understand it anyway as it both requires interest and some dedication. The knowledge needs to be implemented in some kind of health program and this is not prioritized as it would require significant changes which would disrupt the interests of commercial companies which make a fortune on reactive medicines or fast foods. I have hope for the future though as youth seem to be more focused on and interested in these topics.

I was not sure about the magnesium until I watched this, had some confusion on it. Thanks for clearing that up. I've been using D3+K2/zinc for several years which I always take at first light. I'm here to say I've had no more developing joint pain since improving my D3 levels. I just wish I had taken heed years earlier!

Common vitamin D mistakes include not taking enough, neglecting cofactors like magnesium and K2, using D2 instead of D3, and misunderstanding toxicity risks. Proper dosage, timing, and complementary nutrients are crucial for optimal vitamin D benefits.

Growing up i was a typical Irish freckle face girl. I could not go in the sun without burning. Now as a 63 year old… I practice Carnivore lifestyle and zero carb, I can be outside in a bathing suit in midday summer sun for three hours and not get sunburned. Something about the high fat zero carb helps my skin.

My dad has beginning stages of calcification ☹️. He had a stroke at 46 and changed his eating and walks everyday, he is now 73❤ I am 50 and overweight in menopause, with his genetics by blood test. Please look for further information, but as far as I know there is two different types of vitamin K.
People on blood thinners need to be careful, because vitamin K regulates the capability of your blood to clog properly in case of injuries, so this will make the blood thinners less effective. BUT: This is mostly the other vitamin K, and not K 2.
