- * Sorry everyone, I didn't get the Grypmat coupon codes figured out in time for this video. Next time!
In part 2 of our series on undoing some DIY repairs, we figure out why this Trailblazer has no rear brakes after the customer replaced the calipers. Also, the A/C compressor is making a lot of noise, the HVAC blower only works on high, the rear axle seals are leaking, and a few other things.
Part 1 here: • Chevy Silverado - Undo...
Part 3 here: • Chevy Trailblazer - No...

Wes people get brave in a crowd or on the web no apologies required.
Jim Long I’m here to complain he apologized while doing nothing wrong. If you can’t handle constructive criticism don’t look at how other people do things.
I agree!
I wasnt subscribed i heard participation trophy winners got mad. I subscribed
The things that customer did could not only have endangered his own life but the lives of others on the road.
I fully agree all you did was point out bad diy which they noticed and brought it to you
I do my own repairs. You did not put say anything I found offensive. I watch your videos to learn and they have great content and explanations.
I appreciate that!
Dear P.B.
👍👌👏 Exactly! Very well said, Sir.
Best regards, luck and health.
This. 👍
I do MOST of my own repairs-but there are some things that I leave to the pros.But.when you make sub standard repairs,ESPECIALLY TO BRAKES AND STEERING,you are endangering people other than yourself!Crappy repairs need to be called out.
@@WatchWesWork I used to work professionally in the automotive business. You did fine. I've seen crap that just screams stupid. Back then we didn't have access to the information we do now. their really isn't any excuse for some of the errors we saw in the last video. Also scotty is a shill.
90% of the repairs on that truck where down right dangerous!! Keep talking the truth and ignore the haters!! You are a top fella Wes! Keep on doing what you are doing!
I gree.
Dangerous???
I might drive 20 year old junk but i know it will get me where i need to go. Plus not having a car payment is great.
If a bad repair happens to be DIY - it's still a bad repair.
I but my 2003 years ago and I promise you that all I have done is dumped money into it. But I paid $20,000 for this EXT LT. The mechanic insisted that it is over engineered. The wiring seems to be the main culprit but living in Florida with the moisture level and electrical issues not a good mix. I am shopping but just about everything I've looked at it seems to be made of plastic.
@@Leolioness44 believe it or not, proper application of plastics can be a good thing. Key word, proper, as in warrented from an engineering perspective, not accounting. I bought a 2003 Honda Element shitbox with 280,000 miles on it for 500$ (I like thrift shopping for cars and flipping em)
All I needed to put into it was a new upper control arm (rust), battery, clutch, brake lines (came with calipers and rotors done) and weld a few rust spots.
3 years and 60,000 miles later, it's still good. Started leaking a bit from drain pan, but some RTV fixed that.
Plastic everywhere in the engine bay, thermostat housings, radiators, you name it. Actually ended up being a godsend bc I live in northern MI, and the only thing of consequence that rusted was all of the bolts which was expected. Fluid film is your friend if you live in the rust belt.
It's still gutless, boring, handles and looks like crap, but it's still my daily. That being said, I've got a c6 vette for the weekends, a 2001 f550 w/utility bed and preinstalled crane for big loads, and idgaf about the drive to work bc the damn thing just won't die.
I did put in mount points for the tow bar just in case my wife needs to come drag me home though.
Operating cost: less than 680$ a year including insurance LOL. When the time comes, I'm just gonna demolition derby it and buy another beateR.
Don't get me started on BMW and their alternator brackets though... I ate 3000$ on a m3 flip because everything kept breaking.
Happy trails and safe travels! :)
@@luviennesans7771 wow you're talented! And trust me I am all about getting the best deal I bought my vehicle from a used car dealer. It has been my dog car for my golden retrievers that I have bread for several years. It also transported my for children. We live in Florida on the coast but the body seems pretty good. I had some wiring issues and that was basically because the coating started crumbling away. I guess that's when the local rats decided to set up house and start eating the outer coating on the wiring because it had soy protein in it. My vehicle only has 158000 MI on it. But all I have done is repairs. I don't guess I should be complaining
@@Leolioness44 hey I dont blame you- I wont touch electrical with a 10 foot pole. Removing the dash and sorting through harnesses is the stuff of my nightmares, and I'd sooner dump the car. I might do a splice if it's easy to isolate and reach but usually not worth it to dig around for too long.
All I'm saying is that I don't think plastic is a deal breaker. Just make sure to research the common problems encountered with the specific make, model, and year of whatever you're gonna buy, decide if that's something you can fix/live with, and get the vehicle looked at real thorough.
Buddy's DIY on RUclips has a fantastic and comprehensive series on how to inspect and buy a used car/truck. He's based out of FL, Orlando, I think . He also flips cars full-time. If I was in the area, I'd probably buy one off him just for the peace of mind. Love his content, it's very helpful and entertaining.
Best of luck in your search!
The dead mouse bit was hilarious.
🐁"Did you know him?" 😂
I've been working on cars since I was 14 and I'm still learning, it's one of the reasons I watch your channel. That and your wisecracks. Some people just want to complain. One of the downsides of the internet is it has given voice to village idiots.
Honestly, I really don't understand why people bash people's RUclips videos? In no way did I feel you dogged anyone! You have a different brand of humor as every other RUclips channel. Great channel, keep it up 👏
Gotta love the newbies!!!!!
If you dont watch wes work as much as we do
Then sit back and watch..save your backseat comments and couch commando professionalism for someone else. Wes knows what he's doing and he always.....ALWAYS!!!!

God... you tube is getting as bad as facebook!!!!
Worse.
Yup...but i gotta watch something...and tv hasn't been on in 3 years now.
I agree there is bunch of cry babies out there that hate to be told that they did something wrong and will not listen how to fix.
I'm new, this is the second video I have seen of his. It really is relaxing and informative! Cant beat that!
@@doozerchuck8625 You've gotta go back and start at the beginning
Wes, you just keep right on with what made your channel great. Ignore 'em mate! Don't change a thing!
You are a very nice person. Humble enough to acknowledge your critics.
I didn't think you were picking on anyone or being disrespectful. Over the years I have done some amazing repairs but I have also made my share of mistakes because, as you explained, I simply didn't know any better. Watching your videos is a great way to learn and avoid some mistakes. So thank you.
Don't apologize for that man, not necessary. If they found your professional comments offensive, well, they know where the door is ...
Wes , honestly don’t feel the need to apologize your a great mechanic very detailed and straightforward I’ve always enjoyed your humor and outstanding work. Don’t change keep up the great work from one PROFESSIONAL to another God bless
I despise that screaming Kilmer . I thought I was the only one. You just got a sub. Keep up the good work.
Don't apologize about being a professional mechanic! You have the investment in tools, experience, and the skill set to repair the Mistakes that DIYers make. Your skills are why more people should not attempt things on their vehicles that involve the safety of themselves and others.
The more I watch your channel, the more respect I have for you. Not many people can act like a 'regular guy' yet be so knowledgeable. Your experience is evident, but you can pull off that 'amateur' vibe that makes you easy to relate to. Keep up the great work!
Wes don't bend down to the few ugly comments a friend of mine that's a mechanic says if mechanic not complaining they're not happy so therefore you are happy go lucky mechanic do what you do and be the best you can be at what you do God bless the men and women take Rusty pieces of junk and make them run and drive again
I HAVE NEVER HEARD SOMEONE SAY AN ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE A BAG OF HAMMERS WHILE IT WAS RUNNING, THAT WAS FUNNY THANKS FOR THE HUMOR.
Wes- you have nothing to apologize for. Keep doing what you are doing so well, and thanks for taking us along!
Bill
I think anyone who watches you for any period of time gets your humor. I do and I really enjoy it! Just do what you do and your fans will keep watching. Your detractors can suck stone!
The dog, the little son, and banter with the wife... Hell, this guy even has rusty nuts! Very much like SMA. SUBBED!
No chocky mud here this is the good rust belt ps you forgot the toot around town remark driving down the road 😆
Well, I think Wes is just a great guy. Just the right sense of humour but no ill will. You got my support, mate 🇦🇺
Don't listen to those who have negative stuff to say about your work. You're very enjoyable to watch, and a funny guy too.
Don’t let the haters rule. You are my favorite repairman on the web. Also incorporating your family in also allows for a human touch. I would not call what you say as controversial. Instead it’s playful criticism. Auto repair is a serious thing to when it comes to being on the road with other people. Keep it up Wes. Don’t change a thing! Good work!
19:30 yup , pup's nose is never wrong!
Take no notice of people slagging you off , they have nothing better to do . You are so good at your job . I would not let some of these people knock a nail in a turnip
Wes, DO NOT CHANGE, my friend! There are people out there who just want to project their obsessions everywhere - Scotty Kilmer types and their blind followers. I subscribed to this channel - very happily, I might add, because you have wonderful content and the wit and sarcasm abounds - I REALLY LIKE IT!!!! I'm also very glad you keep the comments, as you say, PG-13. There are folks who simply fail to perform any reasonable attack on automotive problems - like the idiot that wanted to drill out a keeper on his doorsill and drilled straight into the wire loom on a relatively new piece of very expensive loading equipment - yes, he was an idiot - PERIOD. I've been a backyard mechanic since I was 15 and I'm 69 now. By the way, I rode Submarines for 24 years, I was an Engineering Test Analyst at NASA for 8 years, and a Quality Engineer in the Nuclear Industry for 20 years. For all that time, I was known for not playing well with others due to me not having a any tolerance for stupid. Thusly, STAY TO THE GAME PLAN WES!!! For those of us who understand, no explanation is necessary, for those who don't understand, no explanation IS POSSIBLE!!!!
Wes, keep on doing what your doing mate, enjoy your videos immensely, you are an excellent mechanic, you explain everything clearly & your a gentleman. cheers from Down UNDER
Wes your content is among the best on the tube, keep it up. I really enjoy watching the methodology you follow on the work you do and the way you clarify the why and how of it.
In my DIY days, we did all our vehicle repairs. Our guide was Motor's Auto Repair Manual. Of course, this was during the 50's and 60's. It was a lot simpler but not necessarily any easier. I spent lots of time laying on a concrete floor fixing one vehicle or another.
Always people out there ready to pull you up on just about anything you care to mention, nothing wrong with pointing out bad workmanship , wether through inexperience,,lack of care or just bodge it mentality, it should up the game and provide people with a little knowledge , and that is what your channel does , from what I've seen your , engineering practice and willingness to learn is spot on , I think people in your area should feel very lucky in having a workshop like yours around . Ignore the snowflake criticism. 🇬🇧
I did a spit take when he said “Have a drink because it sounds like paradise”
Oh if somebody did a diy repair that badly on something as important as brakes it deserves picking on, so don't worry about bored people with no clue commenting.
Wes you have the prettiest assistant on RUclips sir you are a blessed man
I live in Houston where Scotty is. When I was a kid he was on the local TV station. He would answer viewers questions. I recall watching as a kid with my grandpa who was a mechanic and he frequently pointed out bad advice Scotty was giving out.
I'm a new subscriber/viewer to your channel and one of the first I saw was part 1. I had no issues with anything you said and was entertained while learning something. Keep up the good work.
Welcome aboard!
I never thought of the ABS! Love your systems approach
Wes, you know what you're doing, i love when you laugh, say what you know. The ones that mind dont matter, the ones that matter dont mind. Thanks for showing the crop dusting helocopter.
Wes! Best channel on RUclips, you do an amazing job. I love doing my own repairs, I always spend more time researching the job than what it typically takes to do it but that’s because I want to do it right. Thanks again!!!!
Thanks for including the Robinson R44 heli crop-duster footage! That was pretty cool. Towards the end there I've got to agree, he saw he was being filmed and as Gale Banks would say, was really banging that turkey. Also, been a long time watcher and I don't think you've ever said anything disrespectful about owners or previous DIY'ers. People get bent out of shape over nothing. Keep on keeping on!
To prevent the garter spring from coming off an oil seal while you are driving it into place, fill the back of the seal with grease. This method was taught to me by an old school mechanic in the 80’s and has never failed me.
I had a German shorthaired pointer/springer mix who looked just like your dog. She was the best and smartest dog we ever had
That Jalopnik article was a treat. I gor booted from his channel years ago for pointing something out. Great work as usual wes, came to see some class A truck work. Stuck around and now watch all the videos
Hey man love your videos ! Love when a mechanic is a family man
33:10 at one moment I thought your new rear diff gasket is delivered by that helicopter
Hah! Fanuc in Chicago has a helicopter service that delivers parts. I don't want to know what that costs!
I thought the same thing.
It costs about $30k per hour of flight time to keep a jet engined helicopter in the air.
@@WatchWesWork Yeah but if your assembly line is down because one of your robots has crapped the bed, a helicopter ride is cheap!
@@JVerschueren ????????????You're kidding, right?
sorry, read that wrong.
Hi Wes,
After watching you repair some of the newer vehicles I am liking my old 97 better and better. Keep up the good work!
This stuff makes me really appreciate living in Florida. I have a 2007 Trailblazer, 5.3 V8, 2wd. Its at 190,000 miles now and not a speck of rust on it, even the stupid wax coating is intact.
Man you can’t make everyone happy except your wive if you wanna be happy she’s gotta be happy
Ah ues, as for the people complaining about your videos regarding DIY repairs...
A common name for those would be “snowflakes’.
Those will complain about just anything as soon as they leave their safe space.
You should not need to apologise because of their sensitivity.
Keep up the great videos 👍🏻
I believe the reason people were upset weren't because they were "snowflakes" but rather he was absolutely trashing the customer on the job they did and the modifications they chose to make. While his criticisms weren't unwarranted as the previous job was done fairly poor and with questionable parts he was undoubtedly being harsh. Maybe it wouldn't have drawn attention if this wasn't a customer's vehicle but the idea that you could bring your vehicle to a mechanic for repair only to have them essentially "publicly" insult you and your repairs is off putting at the very least. This is why people in the comments resonated with the customer as Wes' reaction wasn't entirely appropriate give that he was creating a video.
Of course, anyone that watches Wes' videos with any consistency could tell you that he is normally not that critical of customers' vehicles and is overall a pretty nice and reasonable guy even in situations where it would be appropriate that he would not be. For that reason, this particular video in question is an anomaly and should not be used as medium to formulate any type of opinion on Wes' character or professionalism especially given his excellent track record.
Again, maybe not necessary but I'd like to reiterate that just because someone or some people are bothered by something that you aren't that doesn't make them a "snowflake".
@@dennykruger5391 It is a common bias (esp. on the internet) to be agitated about something when people consume too little information to form an informed opinion about a subject. Like having only seen this in one video but not really on a daily basis or knowing what a normal shop conversation looks like. The context of rusty chassis and the teeth of time also shifts this a bit in this direction. I guess it would change if some people look under their car from time to time or spend more time in a garage.
I don't think calling out improper methods as such is a bad thing, road safety is not only relevant to the driver, it is also for the traffic around him, it's usually outside your control. I've got no clue what the legal situation in the US is about this, but knowingly handing the car back to the customer who will be operating it on public roads might have consequences for a mechanic as well should he notice that. As soon as the sh*t hits the fan it will be blamed on the mechanic anyway. But the customer asked for fixing the brake system, what has been achieved in a professional manner, problem solved. Watching a video after the fact and then blaming the customer for having it fixed is pointless.
@@dennykruger5391 Who is making anyone watch him?? They chose to if they don't like what he has to say it's very easy click off his page. I find it real stupid that they act like they are forced to watch.
You're the man Wes. We appreciate you taking the time to address the comments but keep doing what you're doing. Love your videos!

As i´m starting to repair bigger and more complicated things on my car, i appreciate this series on the pitfalls of DIY even more!
I find it super helpful that you point them out in detail.
Please don´t stop and in fact do the exact opposite instead. Go into even more detail of the mistakes that were made by DIYers and the damage that was caused! You will save me some money and maybe my life.
You dont need to apologize, you were more than respectful.

RE: Scotty Kilmer - anyone who shouts at me the whole time doesn't get my views. RUclips shoved his videos down my throat for a while till I asked it to stop.
Same here, blocked his channel.
Yeah I blocked his crap too. His gimmick is irritating and never admits to a mistake, which being a mechanic is impossible not to make one at one point or another. 20+ years for me and I've made plenty of them myself, it's just part of the industry.
Agree. A grown man putting a Y at the end of his name, like a 5 year old, is a red flag. Scotty??? Really?? Not interested in his whining obnoxious videos.
@@jkholley1118 Me too!
I find him absolutely unwatchable, but I must be a minority. He has 1 million + subs.
Never apologize for criticizing bad work by DIYers, I agree there are a lot of people that are out of their element on vehicle repairs. I bash Professionals all the time since I can do things better than the stealership can 90% of the time. I hate going to the high dollar idiots that lie and screw up things for simple repairs or the parts stores that can't identify correct parts. Love to watch you work.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and the way you are honest about the mistakes that were either made by yourself, the manufacturer, or the vehicle owners. As to those who attempted to berate, denigrate, and/or chastise you for you having noted the bad or dangerous DIY repairs in your video, it would be my position that all of your videos are made expressly to point out to the viewing public what is wrong, what needs repairing, and why the repairs need to be made.
The truck's owner either knows you or knows of your business and/or has been assured by someone that you are a competent repairman who operates an honest business or he would not have entrusted his vehicle to your care. Further, I am sure that the truck's owner is aware that you video the repairs that you make for your own personal liability protection and that of your business and that you post those videos on your RUclips channel. As such, he would not need anyone coming to his defense as you have said that a few viewers have done, inasmuch, as he could do that himself if he was offended and felt that it was necessary to confront you on the matter, which apparently he has not and did not. Keep being who and what you are, both you and your son will profit from your honesty.
Personally, knowing people for 78 years of life, I do not believe that there is a mechanic anywhere in the world who when he comes across a bad DIY mistake, does not show that mistake to fellow mechanics and/or others to wonder at and/or for their information and possible liability if the mistake is not corrected.
Ha! Taking shots at Scotty Kilmer!

Hello Wes, I just watched part 1 (the 1st time I have seen any of your videos) and I must say to you Well Done! I have not read the comments but out of 200k views if some folks want to say something bad to you just let it roll off your shoulder. Some people must find things to talk badly about even when they don't exist. Mostly people that have low self esteem have the need to insult to make themselves feel better about themselves. You being considerate of them is wonderful on your part and shows character.
And please Wes don't let her get anywhere near the bench so she doesn't get any grease on her blouse

I only watch you and Mike Patey ....both of you on another level.

Informative and fun....if I lived close you'd definitely have my business.
Thought I had a bad wheel bearing once, didn't do anything about it for a year.....turned out to be a loose grease cap, inside the hub cap.....wife wasn't impressed, noise was terrible, lol.
Some of the real problems in the world as it exists now is the inability for the modern person
to be criticized. The world started getting dumb when calling a spade , a spade became something
bad. Tell the people complaining to STFU and don't change your ways to suit them. Just my take.
Your neighborhood reminded me of my former brother-in-law. He lived in the Quad-Cities area and amongst other things he flew crop dusting airplanes. Lots of good stories from him. I think his flying days were pre-Vietnam. The Army tried to talk him into helicopters , but said no thanks and joined the Air Force.
My mother in law bought be a grip mat for Christmas. It's been a great addition to my tool collection!
Wes, you are gifted mechanical individual who has applied training, experience and the ability to get information from the web to bring a huge value to your customers. The peanut gallery is not something you want to deal with bit it comes with territory of "success" :) Those monkeys are however a good test of how things are received. Good job addressing the comments. You bring a very humble personality to your channel along with Pup and your family. As a mechanical technician you are one of the exceptions. I suggest you take more of the approach of "this guy did all the right things.......let's see what we can do to help...........
I concur with those who tell you not to apologize, but for a slightly different reason. A bodge is a bodge, whether the bodger is a DIYer or a pro. That is how I took your observations, and they were both valid and valuable.
i just watched you do every single fix I've had to do on my trailblazer in the last 3 years lol I even ended up with the wrong gasket for the rear dif EXACTLY like you and had to get the rubber one like the original
I have been doing brakes for 30 years and I still learn something new every once and a while.
Thanks for showing a bunch of helpful information about the Trailblazer. Would love to see more about it. I own one in Germany and have to fix it by myself because there is nobody else who could do it. I even rebuilt the entire transmission. Funny side note: I’ve got the same wrong gasket for the differential and waited several weeks for it. Slighty pissed I bought a sheet of paper gasket and built it by myself.
Some things of this car are disturbingly difficult like removing the battery, adjusting the parking brake or to exchange the radio with an aftermarket version.
I applaud you for working on all these that are rusty af! I’m a tech in California and we get the occasional out of state vehicle or one by the beach
Wes, my brother in-law and I where looking at a couple of Kenworth T800's, thought I could have poked my finger through the back of the diff housings. Frames and all, where in good condition, but the diffs where basket cases. So your pics of the tin case backs brought back the memory.
Best wishes
I 100% agree and support your message at the beginning!! There are WAY too many people out there doing what they think are ok DYI jobs but really shouldn't even try!!! "Just because you THINK you can doesn't mean you should" People die from stupid mistakes!!!
I myself think you have a really good channel and love to watch even though, I'm 70 and won't work on

NO, you were NOT disrespectful. Sometimes, junk is junk. Comments come from those that can not even change a tire. Disregard those comments. Keep up the Great work Wes.
You are amazing and stop apologizing! You are kind, thoughtful, honest, and just an all-around nice guy. We love your channel and learn!
Great videos Wes! If I have one concern it is this. I started watching your channel when you were working on the old equipment trying to get them started. Love that stuff. I do all my own work on my vehicles so the maintenance stuff is kinda boring. I know you have to make a living but I, personally, can do all that stuff. I do not, however, have any experience working on diesels so that is very interesting to me. Again, thanks.
Hey you are the one fixing issues that others created so i think you were right giving a little crap as you were doing the job correctly and making it safe for your customer. You are a great source of information on how to do the job correctly
It was nice to see you got a quick mention on one of the videos Abom79 put out today for your take on the kingway tool, Wes ☺️
No apology necessary, DIY repairs are "ok" as long as they know what they are doing, some have issues, and it's nice to see they reach out for help when needed. Good work!
You look like a honest, good mechanic.
Rare to find.
Haha honest real comments from you.
Last thing you want wrong is breaks.
Your comments on the DIY work were 100% correct and warranted. You could be saving someone's life teaching them about the wrong way to do brakes.
However, "it's a kid's book" is a bit toxic. There's plenty in it for adults to enjoy, but the point is, hopefully you were just teasing and don't actually believe she should stop being proud of something she likes.
Keep doing what you do man! If you point out when something is wrong and the person that did it gets offended instead of accepting they screwed up that's something they need to grow out of. If the guys that did the work thought they knew everything they wouldn't have brought the vehicles to you once they got over their head.
Wes. Don’t let the petty haters get to you. Unfortunately they have no life and target those that know how to fix things. Continue on with your good work 👍🏼
