And thank you to everyone saying congratulations...I can't keep up with all of the comments
@Mrs Wes Congratulations! :)
Congratulations
Congratulations, you and Wes are wonderfull.
How about a live stream autopsy of the alternator to see if we can see what was bad on it, for fun(?), show off some of that electronics prowess. And it looks like I have to say congratulations! But I'm not sure what for yet as I haven't got to the end of the video....
Impressive Mrs. Wes.. my son is just graduated and this fall he will go for his masters degree 📜
Congrats to Mrs. Wes on her Master's. 🎆🎇👍
Get that PHD.
Thank you
@@jdmccorful maybe after kiddo is in high school
🎉🎉🎊🎊
Wes boi married a smart woman.
Lucky chap!
Masters degree while working full time and raising Wes and the boy. Way to go!
Wives often seem to have one more kid than their husband.
She brings you a beer, and watches the fort for you at the end of a long day.... Count your blessings!
Lucky boi Wes
"... it's hard to find a rough road in Illinois..." The sarcasm is strong with this one. *LOL! *
It's hard to find a road here in Pennsylvania they've all turned into rutted trails.
@@shackman9566 Same here in California, the worse part is that we don't have the salt issues like back East.
@@llloyd4 don't feel lonely, the way our roads are patched? One guy driving the truck, one very overweight woman slinging a shovel of patch "at" the pothole, two guys in a new Ford fx4 rolling back and forth over the patch.
We are very lucky on our rural street, a neighbor owns a driveway company. When he has asphalt left over from a job he brings his dump truck along with three guys to actually repair, fill , and pack it in place with no humps.
“This township road is *glass* smooth…”
Township road: GUGUGUGUGU
Good news travels fast, everyone needs a reliable mechanic when they bring their vehicles to get repaired.
Bad news travels faster
For me "Gravity on my side" is followed by "Gravity functioning normally" and the thing I'm trying to lower gently descending at much greater than 1g and performing a self dismantle operation on the floor.
Fortunately I had just put down my glass of whisky before Wes said that. My laptop has survived to see another day :)
There's something very satisfying about watching someone else work while I sit here sipping on my coffee and eating a breakfast sandwich! But imagine my shock when I discover I've been sitting here for 3 days!!!
😂
But Pup still loves ya, that makes the day. :-)
Wes is best
Very interesting Wes - and hearty congratulations on your Masters degree Mrs. Wes! That is a great accomplishment indeed. I hope the children in your class (and their parents) know how fortunate they are.
Thank you
Wes, I could watch your videos all day long, seven days a week. I'm not kidding. I love every aspect of them - cars, trucks, tractors, dog, family, wit, commentary. All brilliant.
Wes, get yourself one of those signs that one of the garages I deliver to have. "You don't bring your own eggs to a diner, don't bring your own parts here".
I don't care if customers want to buy the parts. I just wish they would get the right ones...
@@WatchWesWork THAT'S THE PROBLEM. WE CAN'T JUST MAKE IT FIT. I hate the ones you get 3 1/2 hrs in to the job and then find out that the heater core/evap core they bought don't fit. Hard to move when the steering column is in the trunk. DEAD CAR, DEAD BAY EQUALS A BAD DAY !!!!
My shop won't warranty the work if I supply the parts.
We warranty the job part and write to the bill that customer had own parts
@@rick_. Me either. We can't afford nor should we be expected to eat our labor on a redo of a defective part that we didn't supply. See my reply to dot for a real life reason why no warranty.
Variety is the spice of life and some days are ghost pepper.
Carolina Reaper!
Stealing that one haha
Sitting at my girlfriends rodeo in the truck watching Watch Wes Work... needless to say someone isn’t to thrilled ! 😆
Very happy for Mrs Wes getting her Masters completed 👍 not so easy with a young kiddo. It looks like you work well together as a family to get things done. All the while Wes is taking good care of his customers mechanical troubles too. This episode was delightful to watch.
Thank you
That tingly feeling you get when you're notified Wes has posted a new vid!! Hype!
To quote the great Forest Gump, "Life is like a box of chocolates, You never know what you are going to get." You handle it all very gratefully, and a Great congratulations to your wife on the Masters Degree. Besides being a teacher she is also a scholar. Congratulations again.
Plastic body parts were changed but no one said “ in the pile”. Thanks for sharing
That grill would either be unphased or in a million pieces by a light toss. Customer probably wanted the factory one back to sell - nothing wrong with it.
In the bin? MCM...
@vehcor
Congrats to the Mrs.!!!
Finally a longer video! Was looking forward to one of these Wes! :)
Yeah it's been a while!
Happy Saturday! Thanks for letting us Watch Wes Work!
Love it when the customer loads the parts cannon for you off Amazon.
Congrats Mrs. Wes!
congrats to Mrs Wes, Masters Degree, wow!! Love the video, nice and long, varied input what's not to like, thanks.
Vehcor could have changed out that grill in less than a minute with his magic plastic hammer!!!!
I'm looking for that tool, not yet founded 🤭
@@dot7107 It's just a plastic hammer. The trick is in knowing how to use it. Same principle as the Subtle Knife.
That looked like a 2-phase alternator - i.e. down one phase, probably a dead diode in the rectifier pack or perhaps a burnt out stator winding.
It's a 3 phase alternator, but yeah I think you are right about the diode.
The road is basically just Bituminised potholes And congratulations on your Masters degree Mrs. Wes!
You have patience more than most people (mechanics)
You are good at what you do
nothing better after hard day work is sitting with the dog and petting him to take out that stress
And him licking your face with varmint on his breath...haha
...just stop petting him if the day is so stressful that he starts losing his hair from your petting 🙃
The word got out in how good you are. The place is packed!
Fix that jeep! And when we gonna see more on the ranger!!
Well, I guess I don't have to do a "day in the life" video. I will just send everyone here since this is pretty much how my day goes as well. I can get parts the same day though, usually the wrong ones!
I hear that!
Yeah but you got the crew, wich helps.... once a year
But Wes has no Gnomes like you do. But at times Mrs. Wes does help with brake bleeding by dangerously climbing to the top of ladders to get in to cars on lifts. lol
This genre of mechanical videos is nice because of the variety.
New black grill, thats 15 Hp right there!
But you have to wear a track suit, and put your ball cap on backwards, to get the whole 15 hp.
@@ScottHammet Don't forget the huge gold chain, ear phones and sun glasses.
@@ScottHammet And put a bunch of driver education (to places you did not actually attend) stickers on, too.
Post-cleanup word you were reaching for was “cathartic”. (My ex-wife used to call me Mr. Word.) I like to clean up at the end of the day because then when I start work again it feels great to come into a clean shop (or kitchen, as the case may be). Of course there are those occasions when I’m totally wiped out and just say “Screw it!” 😂👍🔧🧰👨🏻🍳
Congratulations, Mrs. Wes!!!!
Good to see you doing your thing Wes 👌
Hi that’s the price you pay living in a rural area but what a great price it is, no annoying neighbours right beside you doing crazy things night and day anyway thanks for the videos really enjoy them , Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia
FORD RAPTOR GRILL ON AN EDGE!? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Great stuff Wes!
Just watched Day in the life and wanted to say congratulations to Mrs Wes it’s not an easy feat she must be so happy and proud of herself 👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Congratulations to the wife!!! My daughter just graduated this week with her Master’s in Early Childhood Education. She teaches fifth grade...
She’s counting the days down to summer break! 😄
Congratulations here too!
Awesome 👍. My middle daughter is working on her master's degree in Childhood Education also. She runs the school at a college.
My youngest is working on her master's degree MBA.
So , Wes, what did you do today??.
An eclectic mix indeed.
Thanks for sharing.
Nothing...
@@WatchWesWork Don't let Mrs Wes know that!!!!!. Lol.
@@WatchWesWork No you DID lots. You achieved SFA.
Max the shop dog doing his job getting all them Small Mammals I see @Watch Wes Work
Thanks again Wess always good. Congratulations to Mrs Wess.
Your summer is booked!
Looking that way!
The daily ritual of cleaning your workspace first thing is truly commendable. Some guys will go 30 years or a lifetime without figuring out a simple life-hack like that. This made my day hearing, Thanks. Cheers!
Wes is taking notice of Mr.hevyshevy who clears off his bench at least twice every vidyah.
Thanks for the new content!
Congratulations on Mrs. Wes's Master graduation.
It's not easy to achieve that level.
Next step.
Her Doctorate.
The Wes will have to address his sweet heart as yes dear Doctor, the honey do list is done.
You are a great mechanic, Wes. Not many people use scopes and understand them around my parts. They are beyond valuable when you know what you are looking at.
Great video, Wes! Looks like you are staying busy :)
BIG congratulations to the pretty lady for her achievements, oh, well done Wes for persevering with them damn cars again.
It may be a problem having more work than you know what do with, Wes, but it beats watching tumbleweeds roll by waiting for a customer to limp up... And belated congrats to the missus on her master's!
I glad you are busy with these hard times. Congratulations on her getting her Masters Degree.
Thank you
That steering issue was very interesting. Certainly learned something new there. Thanks
I said intermediate shaft soon as he mentioned the noise. Seen that a bunch. Was NOT aware of the column bearing issue though. Or I've forgotten half of what I knew?
Watching you work is so much more interesting than watching me work.
that oil coming out of the box is like unboxing fine wine.
In my area they did take out a paved road, and go back to a gravel road. The old road was so bad that they put up warning signs for a rough road, and reduced the speed limit to 35 from the original 50. The gravel road is a big improvement.
The gravel roads are actually more work and more expensive to maintain. But the blacktop is such a big initial expense it just doesn't happen.
If the paved road was actually maintained, It would not have turned into total failure. My local main roads, they grind 2-3 inches off every 10 years and repave. Done in a couple days per mile. I understand the $ part of it though.
Lookin Forward to the Military truck!
16:10 Black Fly Repellent Recipe:
Lemon Eucalyptus: 30 drops
Vanilla Extract: 1 Teaspoon
Witch Hazel: 4 ounces
Place in spray bottle / shake before using.
I spray the inside of my hat, on my neck and shoulders.
Give it a try. Work well for most insects.
One thing you're gaurunteed with one of Wes's vids is it's never a full day.
Lots of surprises, semi-frustration and a touch of sarcastic humor.
Definitely a nice way to spend some Sunday afternoon time.
Even an antique like me can learn a trick or two each one.
Thanks Wes.
you get a boat. it's more important ! I was in a hit-and-run car accident 2 yrs ago so to give me a chance to type. I'm now just learning how to talk... sorry.. The Florida pool pump motor repair guy approved ! that was good info
A most enjoyable vid... I grew up around mechanics and I was always intrigued by the variety of jobs... Never boring. :)
Seeing that shaft that was expected slide in and out, reminded me of a job I once was involved with.We had a Bucryus-Erie 12.5 Ton crawler crane that used a similar Rod in the steering.Rod rusted in place, crane would not steer,Was brought to our shop by an idiot that was using a bulldozer to push the crane side to side to keep it headed in the right direction. No parts available,we removed the rod finally got it seperated sandpapered it clean replaced the spring greased the rod up,Hey,presto,we had steering.
Congratulations Mrs Wes!
Congratulations to your wife for getting her masters degree🏆.
Thank you
Congratulations to the wifey, have a great summer! ✌️✌️✌️
I used to work at a GM dealer in Laramie, WY, fresh out of automotive tech school (WyoTech) in the quick lube. Folks would truck from Cheyenne up over the mountain pass and then stop in for an oil change in those Acadias or Terrains with the transverse 3.6L. I can agree, based on scalding hot experience, that the oil filter location under the exhaust manifold and 1” from the radiator, when everything is 200°, is *the* *worst.*
Congratulations on graduating!
Little tip- spray the plastic push rivets with a lubricant (soapy water ) to aid removal they'll pop right out
Kind of reminds me of farming, my Dad always bought used equipment, he was of Scottish heritage, we were in Western Canada . What a day was like you were lucky if what you needed started , then it was trouble shooting the smaller issues ! But once he put it into the shop in the winter and we had time to go through it we actually had simple reliable equipment! I enjoy your ability to troubleshoot and your depth of knowledge on controls! By the way in Alberta your wife brought you a “Barley Sandwich!”
OMG.. You are the first guy I have seen test the Ripple on the diodes. Yeah... 1.5 V pk to pk is out of specs. Putting a load on the diodes was also a clever idea. You never cease to amaze me.... and I worked for NASA.
Watching wes work reminds me of why I became an hvac tech
Hi, i really enjoyed looking over your shoulder for 1+ days. Cheers from Australia!
I can't help but wonder if Wes gets as many blank stares, when he deals with people, because they don't pick up on all the dry, one liner sense of humor he uses. Always good for a laugh and education.
He's pretty wise in his young years. He must hang out with some older fellers
@@marlinezell639 Judging by past videos, I'd say alot of comes down to the fact he has a Dad that cares and probably took the time to teach him things.
@@johndunbar2393 I totally agree with you there.
@@johndunbar2393 and a truck load of just plain common sense.
Cleaning up in the morning is an idea i can stand behind!
Oh for the days of working on my 1965 Galaxy 500 with a Sears Robucks toolbox and screwdriver set.!
still use a dot matrix printer at work, and it's only five years old! it's for printing out packing slips, since our label machine is a thermal printer.
your wife should get a big hug and congratulations for the time and effort to complete the Masters - you deserve a celebration for surviving also - all this while everything is closed down. really like your channel for its variety!
The shop I work at we have the same system for cleaning. Leave it 'til tomorrow. No one's on the mood to clean when they want to go home, makes you clean hastily. In the morning you dedicate half an hour to sweep and clean; keeps the morale up for the day.
Thank you Wes for the awesome videos. You don’t know how much I look forward to the next video.
I've worked in IT since forever and as soon as you pulled out that sheet that came with the new alternator I was thinking to myself "who the ^$&% still uses tractor feed paper". Guess you were thinking the same thing, lol!
Places whose systems are still set up for self inking carbon paper tractor feed.
Woohoo! 🎉Mrs. Wes! Congratulations on your Master's! They just HAVE to promote you now! 😃
You got a nice life there Wes! It may seem mundane to you at times but looking in from the outside, it looks pretty special.☮️
Always happy to see Wes work! Good content!
This was a great video, Wes! I love the 'Day In The Life' format. Would enjoy seeing more in the future!
Congratulations Mrs. Wes on completion of your graduate degree!! (Hopefully that comes with a bump to a new pay scale!)
"how the wes was won" haha great video .
You are an awesome and a skilled man Wes. Wish you luck with everything you do.
Thanks for another great video, Wes!
I feel you about the parts. Just waited 6 weeks to get back my 150 from collision shop repair. They said it was because of parts Delivery timing. Thanks for the look.
Lots going on!
Yeehaw!
Thank you for posting and sharing your process.
I really enjoy your channel Wes. You make great videos and you do the job right. Thanks for taking the time to share what you do.
Ah yes the automobile business, I grew up with it. Now enjoying retirement. No more busted knuckles.
Me too. Retired last March right about time crap hit the fan. Wiring up storage shed couple days ago and managed to nearly attempt a frontal lobotomy on myself. Pulling on a wire with needle nose...whoops. Your skull leaks profusely with very little damage. Stream of blood the size of a pencil. House looked like a crime scene. Gonna be several days for it to heal. OUCH!
I used to check alternators, when I didn't have a good load tester, by turning my voltmeter to AC voltage. If an alternator was putting AC out then the diodes were failing. I don't know if that still works on today's ecm controlled alternators, I've never tried it.
I knew the alternator in my 02 Silverado had a bad diode because driving down the road at night the lights would pulse.
Wes your videos and channel keep getting better and better 👏 great stuff. I look forward to see your content everytime 👍
These videos make Saturday so much better. Thank you
Congrats to Mrs. Wes!
Wes, does this mean you can now retire? LOL
