That was Evander's defense against Mike Charging in. He wasnt 'head butting' he was just putting his head where Mike was wanting to be. Mike starts to charge, he just lowers his head and moves it forward, and if they smash heads so be it! Its kinda like that Simpsons episode where Bart is like "I am going to start swinging my arms and move forward and if you get in the way its not my fault!"
The Holyfield headbutt thing is debatable. He fought with his chin tucked into his chest for most fights, and even more so when he was ducking, going to the body. That being said, I think he was aware of the (high) probability that an opponent charging in (most of whom didn't tuck their chins in) would catch his skull in their face... And he was happy to allow that to happen, and didn't attempt to move his head back. The only opponent who also tucked their chin down when coming forward or going to the body was Michael Moorer... And Holyfield came out of that clash of heads with a cut. It works both ways.

The slo-mo reply of round 7 of the Rahman fight shows that Rahman swung his head in to his lift also whilst Holyfield tucked his chin down as he moved to his own left. It's exactly as I've explained previously. He likely knew that heads would clash, but he doesn't charge in -- he relies on his opponent to charge in. Thus creating a situation where nobody can conclusively prove any foul play.

Tyson obviously charged in with his head in something like the 7th round of the first fight, and that's like the one blatantly obviously headbutt I've seen in Holyfield fights. Most that complain tend to be butthurt Tyson fans, even though Mike himself has admitted numerous times that Holyfield was just the better fighter on those two nights. As for Lewis, I feel that's down to what I've explained in my initial comment. Guys that kept their heads down often got the better of Holyfield, such as James Toney who was really good on the inside and busted Holyfield up. Even Larry Holmes did pretty well to negate roughhouse fighting on the inside against Holyfield.

Look, Evander and Mike, both warriors in the ring. No doubt. Anybody saying that Holyfield wasn't headbutting, in both fights, I don't know. I do know this - my uncle (may he rest in peace) when I asked him who won the first fight, he said Holyfield. I asked him how and why, and he said, " I knew he was gonna headbutt the hell out of him." Knowing my uncle like I did, being a very "observant" fighter himself (Vietnam vet), I took his word for it.
Having seen those 2 fights many times and listening to the interview with Holyfield and being a Holyfield fan I can say that I didn't see any headbutting that was intentionally with the exception of that one that Tyson made but I will say that Holyfield's saying that if something is hurting you during a fight that you don't show that it is hurting because that gives your opponent reason to keep doing it. That's the best I can give!

Then he comes up very hard and fast crashes into the opponents Jaw. It is not like he pulls his head up and slams down, or tucks his head down and jumps forward. If you look, just before Mike bit him, he actually used this technique

The issue is that Holyfield decided to employ a tactic of pushing Tyson back in both fights, and with Tyson's lunging aggressive style these kinds of collisions were the outcome. Holyfield also wanted to get UNDER the shorter Tyson to prevent Tyson from getting under him and unloading inside.

tyson for me won that fight, evander made like 3 low blows and head butts and zero points deducted, but when tyson fought ruddock and he made low blows he was deducted points so something was against tyson in that fight, awful referee that night.

Anybody who has competed in combat sports knows, at LEAST 50% of fouls are intentional. The trick is to make it look like an accident or put yourself between your opponent and the referee so they can’t see it.
