In this clip, Michael Jai White speaks on a prior statement he made in reference to being able to defeat Bruce Lee in a fight, saying that that statement was taken out of context and he regrets making it due to the deserved stature of Lee. He does clarify the intended point he was making, however, suggesting that his heavier weight class would ultimately make it an uneven fight, one that if done in the street would certainly be in his favor. From there, the actor speaks on his warrior mentality and the belief that he could defeat anyone, saying at one point "If I have to fight Thor, then Thor has to die."

Finally... 95% don't even know how good MJW really is and just judge by Lee's legend status. Yeah, sure, Lee's mastery of techniques is unrivaled to this date, but that doesn't make him invincible. MJW is known for his speed despite having that body. Plus, his techniques are extremely good as well. All in all, MJW COULD beat him, no doubt, but that doesn't mean that he WOULD beat him. There's a chance for both of them to win, although I do think that MJW would have the upper hand in a longer fight.

I'm sick of all the people who discredit Bruce Lee because he didn't compete. Actually he did in high school. He won a Chinese boxing tournament. And I already know what you're all going to say... there's no record of it. Well duh. It was in China and during high school. But multiple people have confirmed it. Furthermore, he had multiple martial arts studios. You don't think he sparred maybe once or twice? And applying your logic, the only measure of a fighter is competition? That's just absurd. I have several friends I've witnessed in street fights that just dominated people. But they have no tournament record. So according to all you haters, none of those friends are real fighters. How about military men who've been in wars? There's no record of every altercation they've been in. Are they not real fighters?
And I laugh at people who discredit martial arts actors. Even if they learned the martial for that role, they train with top martial arts professionals. Often those teachers themselves are masters and have competed. That actor is probably better trained in a few month than you are your entire life. Finally, a strictly competition fighter might not fair well in a street fight with a competent fighter. Competition habits are hard to break. There are countless videos of a competition jiu jitsu practitioner that keeps an arm bar locked in a street fight. Then they get slammed into the pavement. Even the Gracies who teach combative jiu jitsu preach that the sport version is very different and you absolutely have to retrain yourself to break those habits. Get over yourselves. You really don't understand martial arts if you think Bruce Lee is just an actor.

I would agree with you if Bruce Lee only knew Wing Chun, but he had other various martial art styles in his belt, such as boxing, muay thai, jiu jitsu, and he also had knowledge of grappling technique, and even fencing. And he adapted many different techniques that he learned from various martial arts styles to form Jeet Kune Do, discarding the useless ones and keeping what's useful..
Bruce Lee may have weighed only 130 Ib, but he had much higher lifting capability.. The Hapkido master in "game of death" said he weighed 180 Ibs on the set, and Bruce Lee lifted him up effortlessly in every take. He also admitted that before working with Bruce Lee, he thought the guy was just a movie icon who had no knowledge of martial art - but he said he was proved wrong, when he saw what he was capable of when he worked with him.. He didn't want to work with Lee again, because he was the real deal, and was that intense.
Bruce Lee also had many fights, both on set with extras wanting to fight him, and off set, where he almost beat a Japanese Karate blackbelt to death in a fight lasting 11 seconds... Joe Lewis even respected Bruce Lee when he appointed him as a teacher, that he ended up disregarding point fighting altogether, and took up Bruce Lee's way of fighting.

You clearly aren't familiar with the litany of styles Bruce studied and borrowed from to form the basis of Jeet Kune Do, which is the original MMA. You think that shit fell out of the sky? It borrows from all the same places Bruce did. It's not a style. It's a philosophy of using whatever works best in a given situation and training in a manner that conditions your body to be able to employ any of those techniques reflexively. Weight only matters if you are in a ring with rules and restrictions. Even then Bruce would still surprise bigger guys. Look at Marciano, he was the hardest hitter ever and he beat guys that were 15-20 pounds heavier than he was. He was under 200 pounds.

Like his death, he was a mystery that couldn’t be figured out. In his lifetime he had many fighting challenges and didn’t lose one. Chuck Norris and Joe Lewis were students of his, and they were both champion fighters. Now why would champion fighters want to train with this so-called non-fighter? Obviously they knew something Michael Jai White didn’t know. Bruce Lee was the real deal. He was a true master of the art of fighting. It was his passion and obsession. If you met him and you were a martial artist, he would want to spar with you and then proceeded to tell you how many holes you had in your arsenal, and how you could be better. He once said in regard to his fighting ability “If I tell you I’m good you will probably say I’m boasting, but if I tell you I’m no good, you know I’m lying” I have no disrespect for Michael, but he’s obviously not talking about all the champion fighters that Bruce Lee did spar with in his day, and they were all different sizes;and many of them after sparring, with Bruce Lee either walked away with respect for Bruce Lee’s abilities, or wanted to study with him. The actor, Jim Kelly was also a champion fighter. He described Bruce Lee as untouchable. You know when someone is a great fighter when other fighters say good things about your abilities. In a combat sporting match, the rules are designed for the fighters to trade blows over a long period of time for entertainment and betting, and to fight in many matches over the course of several years. Quick finishes are discouraged and deadly or disfiguring techniques are not allowed.
When there are no rules, it opens up the weaker points of human anatomy that are not as protected by sheer size and weight, particularly the nervous system and softer tissues like the eyes or nose. The larger person still has an overall advantage in terms of being able to afford a mistake a little better, but it's more equal than a sport fight. First strike is more important.
For sustained non-lethal/non-disfiguring damage dealing and receiving over many rounds, you need weight classes to keep it fair.

The purpose of Kung-fu/Wing Chun/Jeet Kune Do, is to teach how to move around a heavier and slower opponent with speed and power. Weight and mass don't automatically cancel out speed and strength directed to the weakest part of a body.
In other words, a 132 lbs. man who's faster and stronger than you, and who can land on you at will can knock you out or break your bones at will. This too is a matter of physics.

I will never understand why a person conducting an interview, continues to try and over talk the person being interviewed. It makes no sense at all. The person watching, or listening does not care about the interviewer at all. They try to be so witty and funny, but fail, and dont have to be there at all. The questions can be on a sheet of paper and the star could read, answer, joke, etc. if you must talk, ask the question and then shut up. The person being interviewed will let you know when its time to speak again, by their pause. 99% of every interview is sooooo painful to see/hear, because of the interviewer. Let them freaking speak!

In a fight with rules size and reach make a huge difference but if you have no rules a small very fast fighter can poke the eyes then win but they are still at a huge disadvantage.
Look I understand the reality of weight classes, and physics. But we must please remember that Bruce Lee was an extraordinary martial artist and fighter (yes, fighter). It simply cannot be ignored that many people that knew him, some of his students, other martial artists who we're much bigger than him and we're professionals, some legends themselves, have ALL said that he was either near unbeatable, or untouchable. We're talking black belts and full contact champions here, the best of the era, saying that, and that he could hit like a heavyweight. These comments and stories about Bruce from them cannot be ignored and simply discarded as BS. They are documented on film. Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris, Jim Kelly and many others which I can't remember.

His boxing manual that was released from his martial art study in 1975 is a testament to this. He was without a doubt the founding father of mixed martial art. It is fact bigger fighters get tired way faster. Bigger muscles use alot of oxygen so weight or size probably wouldn't matter when fighting someone that's just as skilled as you are. Also when fighting someone bigger than you you gotta stay on the outside of them and jab.. after a while the bigger guy usually gets frustrated and becomes angry, which means he not thinking about technique anymore

Size is not the deciding factor in a fight. People automatically assume if a person is tall, big or muscular, they can kick ass. Not true. Size can be an advantage or disadvantage. Also, it depends on what type of fighting you are doing. Yes there are weight classes for a reason, but they are also rules in those matches. There are no rules in street fighting.

You probably get the scientific point that it all depends on speed, accuracy, general hardness, skill, etc and not just size. So to elaborate if for example Floyd Mayweather could generate enough speed from across the road and fly and punch Mike Tyson with that speed and accuracy then scientifically he would feel it, jaw would be broken and he would be knocked out or injured quite badly. Now of course that is unlikely to happen but from a scientific point of view that's just the facts mass x velocity of a hard object. 🙂
