I used to work for an insurance company many years ago and a guy called one Saturday morning, i could tell something was wrong. Naturally, because of my position, i knew it was bad news. Nothing prepared me for what he was calling for. Long story short: A "newly licensed" young female driver in her brand new X3 lost control on the N1 into this guy and he bounced off the central barriers multiple times. The car? Black S2000 with a black hardtop, stock, very well taken care of and 30k on the dash, virtually brand new! he only had it for a month (if i remember correctly) after searching for about a year for one. It was his dream car. The car was written-off with no way to rebuild it. And i had to call him to deliver the news, at that moment it felt like i was delivering news to an army spouse about the sad demise of a close friend killed on the battlefield. That was the most saddest day of my career, i tell the story all the time to my mates. 1 less S2k in South Africa 😟 They walked away from the accident unscathed and yes...he was on a coffee run with some buddies.
Surprised both cars are equal weight, would have thought the S2K would be a fair bit lighter given lack of amenities. Would be interesting to see what the results would be with a base GR86 as the 18 inch option wheels effectively give the car taller gearing. Well done gents!
No short cuts with respect to body stiffness so weight do to something worth having . Also in a accident , you have two rail road tracks sticking out the front not unibody so much better protection .

@Masr ali my 05 AP2 still shifts like butter. Maybe you should learn to change gears better
@@darkknight097 mine too, works perfectly still! After 20 years, i changed the urea grease (that Honda fat stuff) and the plastic stuff just as a precaution.
@@masrali4696 My 00 S2000 has never grinded gears. My NSX on the other hand will grind second when cold.
While I agree the s2000 did phenomenally I just want to mention that the 09 s2000 was sold for AU70k new in Australia, whereas the gr86 and brz zd8 are selling for around 45-50k. It’s really great what Subaru and Toyota are doing at what is most likely a low profit compared to their other models 👍
No idea about US but it is really good value here in Australia
It’s great they’re making NA rear wheel drive cars but they don’t have the quality of the S2000, that’s why they were so expensive and you can still feel it now when you drive one, gearbox, engine and chassis are unreal!
I was rooting for the S 2000 all the way...
As an S2000 owner, I am soo proud to see how it keeps up with modern machinery. The S2000 is a legend and a classic. Over 20 years from launch over a 10 year production run and a birthday present to Honda itself, the S2000 can’t be beaten for a sports car. It’s amazing.
What a Great Race! I enjoyed this thoroughly! If only Toyota continued developing it's iconic engines like the 4A-GE which used to rev to 8000rpm back in the day, they would have produced something truly special by now...
Toyota's iconic 4AGE engine is a copy of the British Cosworth BDA engine that had been around for quite some time back then and there's all kinds of modifications possible made to them by now.
my word was this interesting!!! the 86 sounds kinda good at full beans actually S2000 better for sure.
I have an older 86 and I love it... I really like the new GR86 too... but I would still choose an s2k over both... that car is a gem
More drags like this please
What an amazing drag race. These are both phenomenal cars. Good entertainment guys 👏
Thank you so much, we're so glad you enjoyed it
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching
The GR86 is a really good car. Toyota and Subaru have done good with the improvements to this new engine.
Hats off to you Mr. Ash, very well driven!
Well done Ash! funny to see you pop up on my feed. Lol. Hope you're doing well!
3:43 What a spectacular drone shot!
I expected S2000 to lose because is such a tricky car to launch . Especially for someone who doesn't drove it before. Still it has 6.0 as factory time for 0-100km/h. I did some 5.9 in my stock one few times but not every time. I have the proof on my channel.
i thought the exact same (oh no not again a S2000 drag race, we know no one can launch it) but Ash did a great job, i bet he launched it from at leaste 6k. I did a 5.5 in my S but it's a bit lighter as stock and i'm not sure if the road was really flat.
S2K all the wAy!!!
Traded my 06 S2000 for my Type R. Sometimes I wish I kept the S2000 though. I absolutely loved that car. What a blast to drive and the sound of that screaming F22 at 8k rpm was a symphony of pure magic. Such an Incredible and we'll engineered machine
it's not a K20, it's a F20c or F22c if you had a AP2
@@binskee677whoops, you're right. It was an AP2 so yeah, F22.
@@alexlopez2995 haha actually not, it was a AP1, only the US and (later in 2006 Japan) got the AP2. Rest of the world was able to keep the AP1 with a facelift.
Closest drag race by far ! Awesome 👌
By the numbers, the S2K is up 12 horsepower (5%) but down on torque about 20% (31 ft ibs) so being faster is impressive especially on an old engine, and the GR86 often reported close to 250 hp not 228. S2K still impressive to say the least and also Toyota for not giving us another slow car. Both tons of fun I’m sure.
Biggest example of driver mod for the s2000 I remember the first time driving my s2000 vs 6 years of ownership 😜
AWESOME AWESOME RACE !
WOW 👍✨✨✨✨✨!!!
I'd love it if Honda would bring back a new S2000! My kid is now an adult, so now I could buy one. :-)
Yall dudes made it fun man no bias no crying just car dudes having a good time with 2 great cars even though I'm a Honda guy. It takes alot to compete with the s2000 it has put muscle cars to shame. It's one of the great pieces of engineering that everybody should respect. Considering what it does with an I 4 engine
We're really glad you enjoyed it
Great races
This was awesome💯🔥
Great race guys.
Please show the times at the end of a drag race. Thanks.. Keep these type of races coming.
I owned a first gen BRZ and recently got the S2000 I bought 6 months ago back on the road. It still needs work before it will be back in it's prime but I'm loving it already
S2000s need to be launched hard due to all its power being in the higher rpms. In the right hands an s2000 is quick. This race had me sitting on the edge of my seat! Loved it!
S2k is Such a legendary car. I’m surprised that extra torque in the GR86 didn’t factor.
Next do a lap ;)
Love the 86… had the old one and it’s an Incredible - totally underrated - car.
Surprised both cars are equal weight, would have thought the S2K would be a fair bit lighter given lack of amenities. Would be interesting to see what the results would be with a base GR86 as the 18 inch option wheels effectively give the car taller gearing. Well done gents!
s2k is vert

No short cuts with respect to body stiffness so weight do to something worth having . Also in a accident , you have two rail road tracks sticking out the front not unibody so much better protection .
that was AWESOME!!!! Very impressed by the S2K!
Well done S2000 - epic car!
Great video gents, keep up the great work... Honda all the way!
We're so glad you enjoyed it!
Beautyful to see the S2000 its an fantastic car. Wow the hole Video was so cool👍🏻trank you guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous looking S2000.. Wow. 🙌
This is the best drag race I have ever seen! Well done to the Honda!
this was a great drag race , wouldn't mine seeing an 2005 C200 Merc vs Bmw 320i
Man loved those races.
0:22 vtec yo, that S2000 is still impressive and still looks very good today. Ash get yourself a S2000 as a project car
20 year old getting AFTER IT! STILL MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CAR
The S2000 is a legend, but you can't deny the new FA24 boxer motor is no joke. They really improved from the 1st gen FRS/86/BRZ.
It’s odd to see an AP2 with a 2.0 that revs to 9k. In the USA or Japan you have to choose between the AP1 or AP2. I’m a fan of the 2.0 and 9k everyday of the week!!
Awesome race! Love to see the S2000 win this one
Technically it is an AP1 facelift, because the chassis code is linked to the engine. The AP1 was built until 2009.
@@danielbiren4646 does he say what year it is in this video?
@@danielbiren4646 I was unaware that it was still Ap1 since the engine is 2.0. I knew obviously that the engine was larger in the AP2. I learned something new today. Thanks Daniel!
@@kennykunie6660 I do not know what year it is exactly, but it should be past 2004, because of the lights, bumper and interior. No Problem!:)
@@danielbiren4646 that’s why I assumed it was an AP2 because of the facelift like every other AP2 I’ve ever seen. I’m in America btw and I own a 2000 AP1. I like the f20 better than the f22. More rpm’s!
