  • Toe Foo and Schnitz are back for a drag race alongside their newer offspring - the 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI ($35,083 starting in Canada, $31,625 in the US) and the 2023 Toyota GR86 ($34,700 starting in Canada, $29,495 in the US). After the road trip, the cars needed a few repairs. But with everything in working order, and a desert drag race in the bag, Toe Foo and Schnitz are ready to prove who’s faster on the Throttle House drag strip. The new generation of these two classics are in for a tight run as well! What will happen? Things definitely don’t go as planned for this drag race. We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!
Huge thank you to Clarkson Fine Cars for taking care of Toe Foo and Schnitz

Well if Toefuu can have a modern engine then just swap a 1.8T 20v into Schnitz, I did that in my Mk1 Scirocco and it was a completely different car afterwards. 80-140 km/h was done in about 5 seconds in 3'rd gear. The early 1.8T 20 fits directly onto the Rabbit gearbox so its quite an easy swap.

Comparing these two OG vehicles to their modern counterpart is honest proof that we are living in a fabulous age for driving enthusiasts, regardless of the looming EV takeover. If the owners of those OG vehicles at that time (80’s) were to experience the modern driving dynamics of the current generation of these vehicles they wouldn’t be bitching about how the newest iteration are such a let down, (i.e.,Acura Integra) and car companies are just profiting from name recognition. Anyhow, true driving enthusiast, unless they drive on a racetrack every day, just needs to drive a version of any car with a manual transmission.

stock mk8 gti owner here. I was literally on the highway yesterday and a new GR86 wanted to play. He took off and than i did. The difference is small but i did pull away. about 2 car length's when i hit the limiter. i started a car length behind going about 50. But the difference is not huge like i said but i clearly had more top end. When you have cars that are not far off in performance it comes more down to driver skill, tires, road, temp, fuel, driver weight ext. so many variables that can make it lean one way or the other. I'm only 140 pounds which may have helped. but i did have 80 -100 pounds of stuff in the back. I am quite impressed with the top end of the gti stock. I think the power that comes in between 20 and 50 mph could be better. I don't really get that push until past 50. digs forget about it lol

Despite the gr86 having a lesser horsepower and torque it's still manages to put it's power down better than that golf, imagine you tune that car to 700hp with that kind of light weight that thing will be 1/4 mile monster

You should do a series where you VR6 swap Schnitz
edit: why in the world would you k swap an mr2? The 3sgte they came with is a better motor in literally every way. If toyota took out the 2J and put a 3sgte in the time attack supra, I think it's safe to say it's pretty good.

The K series is a better engine in every aspect, what are you talking about? It's a newer engine with better tech. The fastest MR2's in the world are K swapped. Far more parts and support as well as being cheaper. However I agree with the VR6 idea, I love those things. Lots of character in the Jetta I drove

Well that’s a refreshing change to see an 86 win a drag race of all things for a change. 10 years ago that was not the case, 😂 that new engines got a little grunt to it now. Lol

Some thing isn't right with Schnitz, it should be a lot faster. I had the carb version of that engine in an Audi 80 and it was rapid. it would do 60mph in 2nd, 90mph in 3rd and spin through the gears on a dry surface.
