I think it would be fine for around town and a little bit of off-roading. Probably great as a second car for a small family. Looks good in the driveway ☺️
Suzuki designed the Jimmy XL to be modified by buyers. Change the tire to balloon type one, put additional flood lights on top, even the fug lights. New front & back bumper support. Some awning the side, water tank at the back. I guess this car is meant to be modified.😊
It cannot take anything above 215 .. above that the dynamics go awry and the tiny engine just gives up. Fun fact this was made for the Indian market and this one is made in Suzuki India plant. And guess what , this costs around 16 k usd on road in India. 😂
Having owned an auto and manual Jimny, I'd take the auto for off-road capability. The gearing is high for offroad take off on obstacles(even in low range). In the auto you can really load up the torque converter which is needed in serious offroading when the engine is underpowered. Australia misses out on the better specs over seas
I have it and I agree so I'm gonna put a supercharger in it along with some other things like a new ECU etc to up the power to 165bhp and 200nm torque. All of the mods are tried and tested so no risk. The underpoweredness is the only negative point of the Jimny otherwise it's just an instant legend.

I have the 3 door manual, and I’d swap the adaptive cruise control for the useless emergency braking system, which has a heart attack when there is nothing else on the road quite often. That is a solution looking for a problem.
If they had given it more power or an engine better suited to the XL version then it would 100% be an option. But given the normal Jinny is slow. I can't imagine how painful the XL would be to road trip in let alone merge on to highways
It's a good car overall especially for off-road. But here in India practicality doesn't matter. Size of car and Power of car matter (mostly for those who don't have car and take knowledge from Instagram)
@@shubham_M7777 that's the point. These cars are not for space. These are not family cars. Both thar and jimny are mainly for offroad. But atleast jimny is 5 door. A little easy for 5 people. As it's new gen of gypsy. It has small engine. Better in high revs which is mostly needed in mud and snow. That's why with less weight and more high revving, it performs best in snow and mud 😉
Those 15" wheels mean you can fit higher profile tyres, which means when you let the tyres down you get an elongated tread for sand etc. I would update the suspension to improve handling, maybe a fuel tank upgrade. The problem is it has a GVM of 1545 Kg with a kerb weight of 1185 Kg. That leaves 360 Kg for people, fuel, any upgrades etc. It doesn't say what is included in the kerb weight? Long Ranger has a 80 litre replacement tank. So take off about 163 Kg for two average people, 80Kg for fuel that leaves 117 Kg for load right there. Any additions like bull bars etc takes off more load allowance. Balloon tyres like has been suggested and larger diameter wheels will all, add weight. So you would have to be very judicious with what you want to take away with you let alone an extra body, even for a short off road camping trip. You could upgrade the GVM with the suspension upgrade but I bet it won't be much. There are probably some engineering experts out there looking at improving the engine performance.
I owned a 3 door Samurai and it was a simple, tough and reliable all purpose vehicle. It is great for what it is, but a slightly larger engine or diesel would be perfect.
I went with the manual as I don’t city drive and adaptive cruise isn’t something I need. It is a slow car but it isn’t meant to be a sport car. I have a sport car the Jimmy doesn’t need to be a sports car for me at least. It is practical what I found is the soft suspension is really good on rough roads. Plus the rear seats are great if you have kids as they are higher and kids can see out the front. Sitting in the backseat for an adult is surprisingly roomy. I live in the country NSW it is great on our crap roads. On highway I haven’t tried yet but imagine slow but still manageable. It is a boat of a car around corners but most 4x4 are going to be due to suspension and height. It is a great little car, plus if you a tired of all the electronic nanny safety features it is really great, as it doesn’t have any. It is more for people who need a capable, reliable 4x4 and are happy to live with it being unpowered. It is excellent car to have if have a rural weekender on dirt roads or you are into 4x4 on a budget. Suzuki could have stuck a turbo on it but it was designed to be low maintenance or low tech.
They used the same front door in 3 door jimny which is long for easy enter in 2nd row but they could've shortened it and add more length in the quarter window making it look less weird.
This (as would the 3 door) be great with a small (say 2 or 2.2 litre) turbo diesel and lower low range gears. My 3 door does run away a lot more down a slippery hill than my Rocky ever would
Let’s face it. The low power engine supplied is a passive safety feature. More power with the obviously less than remarkable handling dynamics would be a recipe for disaster.
