Hey hey great and honest review. People love the 3 door BUT not everyone would go for it due to lack of space for some. I think the 5 door is a great option and it opens up the door for new buyers.
I’ve watched so many reviews and you’re the first person who pulled down the front seat as well. Thank you for that demo. Sending love from Barbados 🇧🇧
Removing the rear seat back rest is pretty easy. Few Jimny owners here in India have done that. It's a good car for a family of 3. We will be taking our Jimny in the Himalayas next week... So let's see how it performs on snow
howdy! greetings from Brasília, Brazil! I kinda love the Jimny, but unfortunately I´m not sold on the 3-door model due to praticality issues (specially the lack of a decent back seat, as I usually do weekend trips with my wife and my in-laws). What I find particularly interesting about the XL is that even though it solved that issue it´s still a 3.9 meter car, still smaller than many of the compact cars (like the Chevrolet Onix, Fiat Argo, VW Polo, Hyundai HB20) available here. Unfortunately, the 5-door is still not available here. It arrived only recently (two weeks ago in Chile) in other Latin American countries (I think that Suzuki prioritized RHD countries for the first batches and only recently allocated room for production of the LHD models, specially because the 1.5liter engine is no longer suitable for European emission standards, which would actually be a very good reason for Suzuki to upgrade the drivetrain) , and it´s only a matter of time before it arrives here in Brazil as well (all depends on the local importer). Fun fact: here in Brazil the 3-door Jimny is sold in 5 versions (4You MT, 4You AT, 4Style AT, 4Sport ATand 4Expedition AT ), two of them (4Sport and 4Expedition) already upgraded "from factory" for offroad use (with MT tires and snorkel and roof rack, the 4Expedition adds a 2 inch suspension lift and rear ladder), which kinda eases insurance issues (as those "accessiories" comes from factory, which classifies the car as "stock"). Hopefully they will do the same for the XLs to be sold here (they come partially assembled and are finished here to lower taxes, that´s why some "mods" come from factory). Currently, I´m just waiting for the 5-door. Didn´t had the courage to put 30K USD on a 3-door as it would lack praticality for my daily use. The 5-door, however, solves those issues adequately. Performance? I don´t bother, I´m used to driving a vintage Beetle daily. LOL maybe that’s why I love the simplicity of the Jimny and chose it to be my first 4x4. BTW, there´s a wireless charger gadget for the Jimny sold on Aliexpress, however it fits only the bigger console "drawer" from the 3-door model. I don´t understand why they changed that on the 5-door, as the size was perfect for a smartphone.
You can buy Bluetooth gadget plugged into the usb that turn the standard set up into wireless CarPlay. I’ve been using one in my Jimny and works perfectly
I own the 3-door and is great for me as a single. Yes the more space in the XL is good and sometimes i could need it, But i don't think that the Jimny XL will come inside the eu, especially after the announcement, that the Jimny PRO, i mean the commercial, will be no longer sold after june '24. But what i've been really waiting for is the announcement of the Jimny Pickups (single cab & double Cab) based on the Jimny XL!
Yeah, an engine upgrade is a must for it to be sold in EU markets. It’s probably the reason why it took so long for the XL to be offered in Latin America, as Suzuki probably prioritized production to right hand drive as most RHD countries (except the UK) are not so strict when it comes to emissions standards. Only recently LHD XLs came out of production line. Maybe a tuned down version of the 1.4L Turbo used in the Vitara would be adequate for that issue. And it would also add some extra torque for overtaking big lorries on the road.
The extra space in the back certainly would be handy, but unless those bags are full of helium balloons, it might be a good idea to make sure that you are still under your gvm.
Great real comparison! Thank you! I own a 3 door Jimmy and I’m not sure whether a 5 door would be for me. Of course it is more practical but neither the design nor the same engine convince me…
Thanks Marlin this was definitely the better video of the one on instagram yesterday. The audio quality is way better etc . Be honest I love both the 3 door Jimny and the 5 door Jimny . If I was back in my second home in Brisbane definitely I would buy the 5 door Jimny because I would have my children to consider. Over here in Auckland New Zealand were I don’t have my children the 3 door is fantastic for me. I Probably could put draws in the back of the 5 door and still have be able to put my children in the back seat. Because it looks like it has heaps of space to do that . I was hoping you was going to do some driving in this video but that’s okay 😊
Thanks for the comment Jeremy! I’ll get some driving in and a more comprehensive off-road review once I actually get the 5-door myself here but thought this would hopefully help some people compare the two a bit better 😄 Good luck with yours!
Interested in the 5 door, would be good if there were more interior accessories from the dealerships like an arm rest, cup and phone holder etc. Really good review, thanks
Hi from Adelaide !Thanks for the honest review. I’ve ordered a jungle green 5 door to replace my Jimny Lite. Can’t wait ! The only thing I don’t like on the 5 door is the chrome grill .Where did you get the grill on your 3 door? Andy 😊
Hi! Thanks so much, glad it helped! You can get the grille of eBay or other shops online but if you head to my link in bio on instagram I have a direct link under Modifications that leads you to where I bought mine 🙌🏽
We went looking at it, but with extras inc, it's expensive. In Australia. By the time you had a bulbar tinted windows 2-in lift bigger tires wheels. We ended up buying a Nissan SL Warrior for almost the same price. And that comes with everything. The Suzuki looks like a fun car, but there are so many second-hand cars on the market now There are one to two years old and less than 10,000 km. meaning people buy them and 6 months later. They work it out. It's too small. Yes the SL warrior is a bigger car but for the same money.
Yeah that’s fair I guess it just comes down to what car you want and some people don’t add any mods to them at all which makes them a cheaper option I guess 😊
At some point when it's introduced here in Costa Rica, I'll upgrade from my 3 door but a couple of minor things on the 5 door would drive me crazy: no USB-C/PD/fast charging and the back seats not folding flat.
GREAT INFO, thanks. How much is the standard XL in your part of the world, and do they also come with an auto box as an option? Greetings from France, Andreas
Thank you! It costs $41,330 AUD drive-away here from my dealership, but prices might be different from state to state here in Australia. It comes in both manual and auto :)
I’d love a Jimny, but I’ll wait until they bring out a fully electric model. I love small cars. I currently drive an imported Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV electric van, roughly the same size as a three door Jimny. I’ve gotten used to the higher seating position, but don’t like the current trend of giant SUVs. If Suzuki electrified the Jimny, I would be very tempted indeed.
👋🏻 was lucky enough to see a 5 door IRL, it's definitely more practical than the 3 door. Question: do you know if the Ironman 4x4 GVM upgrade is available for the XL? Also, for your Jimny was the GVM upgrade pre or post pick up from dealership? And does it void any Suzuki warranties. Many thanks 👍🏻
Hey! That’s awesome 😊 The 5-door GVM should become available for the 5 door as well (if it’s not already) as the car is basically the same with a longer chassis. I would give Ironman a call and check if it’s already in place. I did mine pre-rego so mine is GVM registered across Australia. Voiding warranty only happens when you replace that specific part if you know what I mean. I.e, warranty for suspension would be under Ironman now with my GVM, not with Suzuki. But my differential would be under warranty with Suzuki, not Ironman. Although bigger tyres could affect warranty in some instances.
I would love to have 50 more hp’s in the 3-door. Part from that I cannot think of anything else to add to it. It’s small size force me to be minimalistic which I am very fond of.
It will be a great beach car. I’m a fully modded 3 door owner and don’t really see the point as a 4wd (off beach). It actually can’t carry any more weight so most will be over loaded. No engine, drive train and fuel tank up grade either. Cut the back off and make it a Ute like little rig, you might have something. It’s going to be the soccer Mum and Qld beach runner. Sadly I think that’s about it. It’s basically a 3 door with more room to over load with an upgraded radio.
Yeah I think it has it’s limits but I do think that it has potential to be a good weekender for entry-4x4 activities and people who don’t really go 4x4 too often or are new to that space 😊
I feel like Suzuki missed the oppertunity with a few things. eg the fuel tank. you have so much more room underneath to fit a bigger tank. Its issues like that, that make me feel disappointed by it. Sure flashy head unit, but its bigger, lacks engine or gearbox upgrades that would make it just a bit better. These things would make it really feel XL rather then just 2 extra doors and fancy head unit. I hope you 2nd jimny comes good for you though and look forward to seeing it documented on the you tubes
Thanks for your comment! Yes, you actually make a good point there with the fuel tank, it would have been great with 50 or 60L, would also help with the stability making it a bit more grounded. But then again, it would probably feel heavier then with the same engine but on the contrary save you money on having to install a long-ranger fuel tank. Definitely pros and cons with both but good point that I didn't think of!
@@ExploreJimny I am curious to see what tank The LongRanger will develop for the 5door. Hopefully a >80l tank in order to give the 5door >1100km range perhaps 1500km range. Brown Davis developed a aux tank for the 3door, have not seen feedback on it and again i wonder if they shall develop their own larger fuel tank for this model?
@@peterpontikos3786 Yeah fair point, there should be capacity to make an additional 60-70L long ranger tank I would say. Haven’t really heard anything about the Brown Davis in terms of reviews, as it seems like it was a bit oddly placed in the back of the car. It could be something to consider for this one, as that could make the XL Jimny more attractive in contrast to the 3-door. 😊
And how does it perform on the road? Being a little more larger, it should feel more stable at high speeds (120 km/h), speaking of the risk of overturning.
It’s definitely more stable than the 3-door stock but I’m keen to test it out once I get mine and see how stable it gets with similar upgrades to the 3 door 😊
Thanks for the review. It’s similar to what I’m thinking regarding power, practicality, space etc. I had a 1993 vitara 5 door and sold it nearly 12 years ago. I miss it! Reason being is I have a small family and would like to take them off-road in something cheap to run around that isn’t our main vehicle. I’d love the 5 door but my only 3 cons with the vehicle are: -4 seater -limited compartment space -bigger fuel tank. How much km do you get out of a fuel tank? Is this running 91 or 98 octane? If I was to buy one it’d be the 5 door but I need to drive one to see how it feels.
Cheers! Yeah it’s really what you make it I reckon. I wish it did come with a bigger fuel tank and 5 seats but yeah it is a good option for those finding the 3 door just a bit too small 😌
I have a 3dr as a weekend toy it just doesn't suit me as a daily driver am seriously considering getting a 5dr to use as a daily and keeping the 3dr as a weekend car 😂
It definitely feels more quiet than my 3 door just because I have an aftermarket exhaust in mine, lol - however: the 5-door is more stable on the road and not as wobbly as the stock 3 door, so it think the 5 door is less noisy. Always worth putting in some soundproofing though I guess :)
