I have no children, been in menopause for 6 years. I’ve told her dozens of time NO HYSTERECTOMY! Like you, I want to keep my lady parts. Researched and found out about UFE 7 years ago. Asked her about it as an alternative….blatant and rude, “they won’t do it if you’re not bleeding (having a period).” Second opinion actually offered UFE as an alternative…am getting an MRI next week so the interventional radiologist can determine if I’m a candidate for UFE. Even he was a little hesitant to say “yes.” PLEASE LADIES….the hysterectomy is truly the bread and butter of women's healthcare…the cure for all that ails. DO NOT fall for that when dealing with treatable fibroids. DO NOT take “no” for an answer. Please pose this question to your gynecologist and/or interventional radiologist: “What other organ or body part is FULLY REMOVED OR AMPUTATED because of a benign tumor?”
Hi, I had an UFE as well and I wanted to know has your Tumor shrunk? I had it done this October I went for my follow up and the mri says that the fibroid has grown, however my dr is stating that the tumor has died and that it's just inflammation. I'm definitely getting a second opinion.
Women's health is one issue, Doctors who refuse to give full and frank considerations simply to suit themselves rather than proper consideration of their patient , is a larger issue not just limited to the US. Physical health does not exist separately from mental health. Great that you have found your way to an outcome that suits your needs.
See, and this is exactly what bothered me more than anything. At my follow up appointment with that doctor I declared my hatred for, I was literally crying telling her I don't want a hysterectomy. She looked at me really, really confused and asked me what the big deal was. I had researched it more at that point by reading other women's experiences as well as various hospital/doctors' websites. Things could happen like my ovaries floating around and adhering to some other organ. My urethra could accidentally get cut and cause a fistula (it's more common than you would think). Another thing the doctor wanted to do was take out my fallopian tubes since cancer can start there (there is no history of cancer in that area in my family) even though they are completely healthy. I read on a doctor's website that doctors who have minimum experience with robotic surgery take a very long time cutting out the fibroid. One case he knew of, the woman was in one position for so long with weight on her head that her hair fell out. And like with any surgery, there is the risk of being under general anesthesia for so long. The GP and that gynecologist made it seem like an interventional radiologist would be some kind of madman/woman that would force some kind of horrible procedure on me. So what would be worse? A couple of hours of severe pain (that wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't obstinate and refused to take opioid pain killers) and a few days of feeling bad or 8 weeks of recovery? I read about the recovery of both a hysterectomy and a myomectomy are hellish. How could she possibly even consider that being the better option? I had my suspicions that what it amounted to was that she wanted a payday before my interventional radiologist suggested it. It is completely unethical in my opinion. I'm sure there are other procedures that both genders or just men can get which is a similar situation. The interventional radiologist told me that this procedure is also used for prostate and liver cancer. The fibroid version of it is the most straightforward. The only real side effect, that is rare, is that the beads could have accidentally gotten in the arteries to my ovaries causing premature menopause. That is also a risk with a hysterectomy. If this is typical thing that happens within the OB/Gyn community I wish it would be looked at and taken more seriously. With this video if I can save one woman from going through that situation I will be very happy.

Hey Sabrina thanks a TON for sharing this - I/we have never heard of this treatment for fibroids and there have been many women in our family with this problem. Almost all of them had hysterectomies. Now maybe we can make sure that the younger girls and the next generation won't have to have such an invasive surgery. Lastly, here's to you feeling better and better every day! Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing this. I found your video while doing my own research. My gyno told me the same thing yours did, hysterectomy is my only option. She didnt even mention that there are alternative treatments. Im currently trying to find an experience radiologist that can donthe procedure. I also haven't had any luck getting a referral. This is so close to my exact experience. I had more pain in the post surgery recovery room. They kept me overnight. My fibroid was extra large that is probably why. I’m a week out and still using the painkillers. It’s no fun, but I’m looking forward to the future relief
I went to an all women clinic and all the doctors were women and on their website they had listed all the noninvasive treatments for fibroids and I was excited to go for my appointment. Long story short the gyn suggested a hysterectomy on a 4.5cm fibroid I told her I would think about it over the holidays and let her know. When i left that office I was so angry and now i have an appointment for a 3rd opinion. The 1st doc didn't want to do anything just wanted to wait for menopause.
I hope your fibroid doesn't return and I hope you feel better soon. As a man I can't relate to the pains of childbirth. About the worst pain I've had was the removal of a cancerous tumor from my nose. I marvel at modern medicine and what can be accomplished.
Wow, thanks for sharing your experience. My take away from this is never give up, inform yourself, and with medical advice, 'always' get more than one opinion. I have a friend in her mid 40's that had high cancer count in her blood. After multiple scans/mri's/intrusive procedures, etc and 2 years of back and forth, she was subjected to an ovary removal, breast biopsies and all sorts of other traumatic treatments trying to find the problem. 'Somehow' they missed the golf ball sized tumor in her lung for which she is currently undergoing treatment. She lives in Switzerland and to this day I cannot fathom how that was missed initially. Anyway, so glad you are doing ok, best wishes to you and the family and look forward to watching your video on the good news in 6 months after ther mri results are in. p.s, I am sure all the followers of this channel (of which you are an integral part), and other woman folk out there that have the same condition, will be very interested to hear of your progress. Would love to hear how you are doing now. Did they shrink? I have an MRI in a week then getting the same procedure as you. I've read changing diet can help so I'm knee deep in figuring that out. Peace.
@@SpencerKleinVintageWatch i hope it’s the same for me.. I’m 6 days post UFE. MRI said I have only one 9cm fibroid. When I found out I had fibroids I had gone to the ER for pain and the ultrasound said I had multiple… changed my diet and I think I got rid of most.. but the large one remained.

I was also blindly suggested a hysterectomy in the hospital system. Best to go to a specialized clinic, I found a great one also run by women. 🙏🏼

Yes it shrank to the size of a golf ball, I believe.
