"IRISH II" Gaea-Houdini workflow test + VFX Breakdown 4K

  • The main goal of the experiment was to test the GAEA/HOUDINI/REDSHIFT workflow.
    During the process, we discovered nuances in creating height maps using GAEA. Shading through the SLOPE map turned out to be a particularly nice part of the experiment. While Houdini does offer the ability to generate SLOPE maps, it was interesting to explore a pipeline that included GAEA.
    I am pleased with the results, especially since I now live in Ireland and often observe the landscapes, trying to replicate them in 3D.

    Looks really good. Few questions if you dont mind:
    - your landscape elements have rock surface embedded in to them. Is that kiboshed on top, or is it displacement masked out with slope?
    - how do you get stuff from Gaea? Through heightmaps or mesher? If mesher, do you export highest possible res or med res with displacement? If you export heightmap, do you use Houdini heightmaps to bring them in?
    - do you use satmaps from Gaea to color tilling texture in material?
    Once again, fantastic work, looks really really good.

      in Houdini, I've been using heightfield file node with scale and height like in Gaea 5000x2600
